Cincinnati police union rips arrest of White victim in viral street attack as political interference
The Cincinnati police union slammed a criminal case being brought against a victim in last months viral beatdown over the man's alleged role in the violence.A 45-year-old White man was arrested earlier this week in connection to the assault in the citys downtown area, the Cincinnati Police Department confirmed to Fox News Digital.Authorities have not named the suspect, who police said was a victim in the attack and therefore is protected under Marsys Law, which prevents officials from releasing his identity.VICTIM IN VIRAL CINCINNATI STREET BRAWL NOW CHARGED IN CASE, POLICE SAYThe victim's lawyer, Douglas Brannon, revealed his client was allegedly hit in the head 28 times and robbed during the attack, according to FOX 19.The man "is continuing to suffer from his injuries. He was brutally beaten in the attack, like many others were, and hes continuing his medical treatment," Brannon told the outlet. "Still kinda processing on how this victim-blaming has happened."Brannon reportedly pointed to his client acting in self-defense during the attack, while vowing to fight the charges.CINCINNATI LEADERS 'DEMANDING PROSECUTION' OF WHITE MAN IN VIRAL STREET FIGHT"Its very clear in all of the videos, except those edited for political purposes, that [he] was, in fact, acting in self-defense of himself and his friends," Brannon said.Brannon did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment. The fight broke out on the corner of West Fourth and Elm streets in the early morning hours of July 26. Bystander footage of the assault shows a White man hitting a Black man wearing a red shirt in the face, moments before the scene devolved into chaos, ultimately leaving six people injured and quickly going viral online. The man is charged with disorderly conduct and has been ordered to appear in court on Aug. 26. He is the eighth person to be arrested for his alleged involvement in the beatdown.CINCINNATI BRAWL TIMELINE: BRUTAL ASSAULT SPIRALS INTO NATIONAL FIRESTORMIn light of the latest development, community leaders throughout Cincinnati have spoken out about the mans arrest with some officials previously calling for the individual to be charged, as the first seven suspects are Black."We have been clear about the fact that anyone involved in perpetrating violence should be held accountable," Mayor Aftab Pureval said in a statement, according to WLWT. "This is another step toward achieving that, and I want to thank CPD and the prosecutors for their hard work as this process continues."However, Cincinnati Fraternal Order of Police President Ken Kober ripped the arrest after previously accusing the Pureval administration of exerting pressure on law enforcement to find a crime to charge the victims with.CINCINNATI FELON WITH 22 PRIOR ARRESTS INDICTED FOR ALLEGEDLY SNATCHING VICTIM'S CHAIN DURING VIRAL BEATDOWN"City Solicitor [Emily] Woerner and the Pureval administrations blatant political meddling is the most egregious Ive witnessed in my career," Kober said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "Overruling law enforcement and prosecutors for cheap political points is a disgraceful stain on our city, and those responsible should be utterly ashamed of themselves."Ohio state Rep. Cecil Thomas sounded off on the severity of the charges, after previously hosting a town hall to discuss the citys handling of the investigation."The charge of Disorderly Conduct, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, is a slap in the face to the Black Community," Thomas said in a statement to Fox News. "This only inflames the community even more. The proper charges for him should have been assault and aggravated rioting. However, if the city or prosecutor truly wanted to diffuse this situation and bring the temperature down, they should drop all aggravated rioting charges and reduce all felonious assault charges down to misdemeanor assault, except for the individual that struck the lady.Under no circumstance can I condone a man hitting a woman. Charge everyone, black or white accordingly and let the courts decide their fate. End of story."CINCINNATI VIRAL BEATING BODYCAM RELEASED AS SUSPECTS FACE NEW CHARGES IN GRAND JURY INDICTMENTDavid Whitehead, president of the citys NAACP chapter, also reportedly reacted to the new charges."The Cincinnati NAACP stands by and advocates for justice under the law," Whitehead said, according to WLWT. "We still question the fairness in charging based on the information we have seen and the conversations we have had. Street altercations typically result in disorderly conduct charges and there are at least five defendants being charged beyond that. We look forward to learning more about the cases and receiving the findings of the final investigation. In the meantime, we encourage everyone who believes in a fair judicial system to register to vote, because thats how jury pools are determined."Pureval and Whitehead did not immediately respond to Fox News Digitals request for comment.CINCINNATI RESIDENTS ON EDGE AFTER VIRAL BEATDOWN SPARKS CRIME CONCERNS: 'WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN NEXT?'Patrick Rosemond, 38, Jermaine Matthews, 39, Montianez Merriweather, 34, DeKyra Vernon, 24, Dominique Kittle, 37, and Aisha Devaughn, 25, are each charged with three counts of alleged felonious assault, three charges of assault and two charges of aggravated rioting, the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office confirmed to Fox News Digital.Last week, authorities also announced the arrest of 32-year-old Gregory Wright. Wright was arraigned on alleged aggravated riot and aggravated robbery charges on Thursday morning, where he appeared virtually in the Hamilton County Jail.According to court documents, Wright, who is a convicted heroin trafficker with a lengthy criminal record, "did by force rip the necklace off the victim while he was being assaulted by four or more co-defendants, attempting to cause serious physical harm."On Thursday, an Ohio judge lowered Wrights bond from $100,000 to $50,000, but he is only required to pay 10% or $5,000 to be released.Wright's attorney did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

AI tools could weaken doctors' skills in detecting colon cancer, study suggests
The benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) in the medical space are ever-growing, but evidence suggests it can also come with risks.A new study by European researchers investigated how AI can change the behavior of endoscopists when conducting a colonoscopy, and how their performance dips when not using AI.The research followed clinicians at four endoscopy centers in Poland participating in the ACCEPT (Artificial Intelligence in Colonoscopy for Cancer Prevention) trial, where AI tools for polyp detection were introduced at the end of 2021.FDA APPROVES FIRST AI TOOL TO PREDICT BREAST CANCER RISKColonoscopies at these centers were randomly selected to be administered with or without AI assistance. The researchers gauged the quality of the colonoscopies by comparing the identification of tumors (also known as the adenoma detection rate, or ADR) three months before and three months after implementing the AI.From September 2021 to March 2022, 1,443 patients underwent non-AI-assisted colonoscopies before and after the introduction of AI.The study found that the tumor detection rate decreased "significantly," going from 28.4% before AI exposure to 22.4% after AI exposure. The findings were published in the journal Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology.COLORECTAL CANCER DIAGNOSES SOAR AMONG YOUNGER ADULTS FOR ONE KEY REASONPer the researchers analysis, exposure to AI, patient gender and age were "independent factors" associated with the tumor identification rate. The researchers concluded that "continuous exposure to AI might reduce the ADR of standard non-AI-assisted colonoscopy, suggesting a negative effect on endoscopist behavior."Harvey Castro, M.D., an emergency physician and specialist in AI and healthcare based in Texas, said he considers this study an "important piece of work.""This study highlights a paradox in medicine: Artificial intelligence can help us detect cancer, but it may also weaken the doctors own ability to see what matters when the tool is not available," he said in an interview with Fox News Digital.Castro emphasized that even a 1% change can affect colon cancer survival for "thousands of patients," which makes the 6% drop in detection rates significant."Even small changes in adenoma detection can shift cancer outcomes," he said. "A reduction of a few percentage points is meaningful at a population level."CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTERThe expert recommends integrating AI "wisely" instead of avoiding it all together."As a physician futurist, I believe artificial intelligence is one of the most powerful tools we have for improving detection and saving lives," Castro said."At the same time, this study reminds us of a simple truth: Medicine is still a human profession. The doctors eye, judgment and pattern recognition remain irreplaceable."Castro commented that the right path forward with AI in medicine is balance, designing it to strengthen clinicians instead of weakening. For more Health articles, visitwww.foxnews.com/health"That requires training, oversight and intentional design," he said."The best future is one where technology and humanity work side-by-side, doctor plus machine, ensuring patients get the safest and most effective care possible."

Russian cruise missiles hit US company in massive Ukraine strike amid Trumps peace push
In one of the largest overnight strikes since the war began, Russia unleashed some 614 drones, ballistic and cruise missilesacross Ukraine, killing one, injuring dozens and destroying an American-owned electronics company less than an hour from two NATO borders, officials confirmed Thursday morning.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksyy said the strike on the private U.S. company, which involved "several" cruise missiles, was "very telling" following President Donald Trumps attempts to force Moscow to end its invasion.RUSSIA'S LAVROV LOOKS TO DRAW CHINA IN ON UKRAINE'S SECURITY GUARANTEES"Last night, the Russian army set one of its insane anti-records," Zelenskyy said. "They targeted civilian infrastructure facilities, residential buildings, and our people."Several cruise missiles were lobbed against an American-owned enterprise in Zakarpattia," he continued, describing the company as "a regular civilian business, supported by American investment, producing everyday items like coffee machines.""And yet, it was also a target for the Russians. This is very telling," Zelenskyy added. The American business is believed to be Flex Ltd., whose corporate headquarters is in Austin, Texasbut which has business locations across the globe. Some 15 people were apparently injured in the strike on the city of Mukachevo in the Zakarpattia region which sits just 30 miles from two NATO nations, Hungary and Slovakia.UKRAINES STOLEN CHILDREN CRISIS LOOMS LARGE AS NATO MEETS ON RUSSIAS WARFlex Ltd. did not immediately respond to Fox News Digitals questions. The overnight strike included 574 dronesand40 missiles, and hit numerous locations across Ukraine. The White House also did not immediately respond to Fox News Digitals questions regarding the presidents reaction to the strike that targeted a U.S. company, though on Tuesday he said, "It's possible that [Putin] doesn't want to make a deal.""We're going to find out about President Putin in the next couple of weeks," he added.NATO leaders have repeatedly questioned Putins willingness to engage in good-faith negotiations as well as his desire to end his war ambitions questions that gained little clarity even after Trumps in-person meeting with the Kremlin chief in Alaska on Friday.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPFrance which has become a leading player backing Ukraine on Thursday reiterated this point, and in a statement to Fox News Digital, said despite Russian claims that they are "ready to negotiate," the overnight strikes suggest otherwise."These attacks, the most massive in a month, illustrate Russias lack of any genuine intention to engage seriously in peace talks," a spokesperson with the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs told Fox News Digital."France reiterates its support for President Trumps initiative in favor of a just and lasting peace and will continue to work with determination alongside Ukraine and its partners," the spokesperson added.

Newsom, California Democrats move to counter Texas redistricting with partisan map
California Democrats, led by Gov. Gavin Newsom, are gearing up to nullify Texas new congressional map with their own.Lawmakers in the Golden State are expected to pass a trio of bills that would allow voters to decide whether to overturn the preexisting congressional maps and the states independent redistricting commission, and usher in a new one with a more partisan bent.Indeed, Newsoms push for a special session and new map is a call and response to President Donald Trump, Gov. Greg Abbott and Texas Republicans, who crafted their own fresh map that passed the Texas House on Wednesday that gives the GOP five new, Republican-leaning districts.ABBOTT SCORES BIG WIN IN REDISTRICTING BATTLE AS TEXAS DEMOCRATS' BLOCKADE COLLAPSESCalifornias proposal would turn five Republican districts into Democratic-leaning districts in an effort to cancel out the changes made in Texas. Both states are engaging in a broader battle to gain control of the House pushed by Trump, who wants to buck the pendulum swing trend during off-cycle elections and maintain control of the lower chamber."This is about taking back our country," Newsom told reporters on a press call Wednesday. "This is about the Democratic Party now punching back forcefully and very intentionally."Thursday's legislative session comes on the heels of the California GOP's attempt to halt the process by charging that they did not have their constitutionally granted 30 days to review the legislation, which was shot down by the California Supreme Court on Wednesday.HERE ARE THE 5 GOP HOUSE SEATS THAT COULD BE WIPED OUT WITH NEWSOM'S CALIFORNIA REDISTRICTING PLANDuring Thursdays session, California lawmakers will consider three bills, one to pay for the special session, one containing the new map and another teeing up a constitutional amendment to be considered by voters in November. The proposed map would likely affect five California Republicans districts, including Reps. Doug LaMalfa, David Valadao, Darrell Issa, Ken Calvert and Kevin Kiley. Earlier this month, Kiley introduced legislation to halt the nationwide redistricting push until after the 2030 census.Like the Texas map, its not guaranteed that Democrats will win the seats, but Newsom and his supermajority in the state legislature are angling to give them a better shot.TRUMP, ABBOTT VS. NEWSOM: MAD DASH TO REDO CONGRESSIONAL MAPS IN CALIFORNIA, TEXASBut Trumps desire to maintain the GOPs trifecta in Washington has spurred other states to consider a redistricting effort, too."Big WIN for the Great State of Texas!!! Everything Passed, on our way to FIVE more Congressional seats and saving your Rights, your Freedoms, and your Country, itself," he said on his social media platform, Truth Social. "Texas never lets us down. Florida, Indiana, and others are looking to do the same thing." While Trump and his allies continue to prod for more changes to state maps, Newsom has found an ally in his own push: former President Barack Obama. He argued that Newsom was taking a "responsible approach," but noted that mid-decade redistricting, particularly of the hyperpartisan nature that Newsom and Republicans were engaged in, was not his preference."Ive had to wrestle with my preference, which would be that we dont have political gerrymandering," Obama said on Tuesday at an event in Marthas Vineyard. "But what I also know is that if we dont respond effectively, then this White House and Republican-controlled state governments all across the country, they will not stop."

'Maine's Mamdani': Maine GOP chief issues warning about new challenger looking to oust Susan Collins
The latest addition to the pool of Democrats seeking to challenge Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, is doubling down on Zohran Mamdani-style socialism, says the chief of Maine's Republican Party.Democrat Graham Platner launched his campaign highlighting his history as an Army and Marine veteran as well as an oyster farmer, but state GOP chief Jason Savage told Fox News Digital that rural accolades aren't policy positions. He pointed to Platner's hiring of a top Mamdani adviser, Morris Katz, to produce his campaign launch video. In that video, Platner rails against the "oligarchy" and endorses universal healthcare. His website features messaging that claims the U.S. has a "billionaire economy," and that if elected Platner would view it as a key part of his job "to dismantle" it."Graham Platner is Maine's Mamdani," Savage told Fox News Digital in an interview. "He brought in the Mamdani team to support his campaign. He's out doing a lot of work with socialist groups. He's a Bernie bro."SENATE DEMOCRATS ARE FEVERISHLY RECRUITING TOP CANDIDATES TO WIN BACK MAJORITY IN 2026 MIDTERMS"What we're seeing here is the exporting of the Mamdani ideology to the state of Maine because they think that they can gain ground in a small state where things aren't as expensive," he added.TRUMP ALLY MIKE COLLINS LAUNCH KEY BATTLEGROUND STATE BID TO FLIP DEMOCRAT-HELD SENATE SEAT"You can look through Graham Platner's donor history, and you can see that he donated to Harris for President, Bernie Sanders, Ilhan Omar," he continued, arguing that far-left candidates are a major threat to the Democratic Party.Platner's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital."If common-sense Democrats, and then the leadership like [Sen.] Chuck Schumer don't do something and say that isn't the future of our party, then they're gonna run in a bunch of these races. and we're gonna beat them," he said.Savage argued that the Democratic Party's embracing of the far-left is a "double-edged sword." He said Democratic candidates can't succeed without the "extreme wing" of the party, and now "they've created a monster that they don't have the ability to control.""In the long run, it's going to be catastrophic for them. I mean, Graham Platner advocates for allowing men to be in girls' and women's sports," Savage said. "He advocates for all sorts of policies that are very, very unpopular, and the Democrats can't say anything to stop that."The Democratic challenger list against Collins is growing, and reports say those already in office are trying to tap Janet Mills, the state's 77-year-old Democratic governor, for the seat.Republicans currently control the majority of the Senate by a 53-47 margin. Democrats would need to flip four seats in the 2026 midterm elections to take the majority.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPA spokesperson for Collins told Fox News Digital that Platner is "just another progressive entering the race."Fox News' Pilar Arias contributed to this report

Patrick Mahomes reveals sobering reality of father's DWI arrest just before Chiefs' 2024 Super Bowl victory
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes revealed in a new docuseries that his fathers 2024 DWI arrest, which happened just over a week before the Super Bowl, was a life-altering moment for his dad.Patrick Mahomes Sr. was arrested in February 2024 in Tyler, Texas, on a felony DWI charge, the third such charge for the former MLB pitcher. News of his arrest came just over a week before the Chiefs were due to face theSan Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.Mahomes fielded several questions about his fathers arrest in the lead-up to the game.
