War on cartels yields results as 'El Chapo' heir confesses to running violent drug empire
One of the sons of notorious drug lord "El Chapo" pleaded guilty in a U.S. federal court in Chicago to major drug charges and running the Sinaloa Cartel in his father's absence.Ovidio Guzman Lopez, 35, admitted to running part of the Sinaloa Cartel, coordinating massive drug shipments, including fentanyl, heroin and cocaine into the U.S. and using violence to protect cartel operations, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois. His plea is part of a broader federal strategy, "Operation Take Back America," aimed at dismantling transnational criminal organizations like the Sinaloa Cartel.TRUMP ADMIN SANCTIONS EL CHAPO'S CHILDREN, VIOLENT FENTANYL-TRAFFICKING CARTEL ARM LOS CHAPITOS"Todays guilty plea is another major step toward holding the Sinaloa Cartel and its leaders accountable for their role in fueling the fentanyl epidemic that has plagued so many Americans," U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton said in a news release."We remain committed to dismantling the Cartels entire fentanyl infrastructure and ensuring that the Chapitos and their violent organization can no longer flood our communities with this poison."Guzman Lopez admitted in the plea agreement that he coordinated the transportation of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl and other drugs and precursor chemicals from Mexico to the United States border, at times in shipments of hundreds or thousands of kilograms, according to federal officials. He used a network of couriers affiliated with the cartel to smuggle the drugs into the United States, using vehicles, rail cars, tunnels, aircraft and other means, the plea agreement states. After the drugs were distributed throughout the United States, officials said, individuals working for Guzman Lopez used bulk cash transport, wire transfers, trade of goods and cryptocurrency to launder the illicit proceeds and ensure that the money was transmitted to Guzman Lopez and other members of the cartel in Mexico.Guzman Lopez then admitted he and his cartel associates committed violent acts against law enforcement officials, civilians and rival drug traffickers to protect the cartels drug-trafficking activities.FEDS WON'T SEEK DEATH PENALTY FOR EL CHAPO'S SON IN MAJOR DRUG TRAFFICKING CASEAs part of the plea agreement, Guzman Lopez will also forfeit $80 million, though his sentencing date hasn't been set.He is one of four brothers known as "The Chapitos," who took over after their fathers arrest in 2016.Joaquin Guzman Lopez was arrested last year and is being held in the U.S. without bail. He pleaded not guilty and is waiting for his trial in Illinois.Ivan Archivaldo Guzman Salazar and Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar are also facing charges in Illinois and New York. They have not been arrested yet, and warrants have been issued for their arrests.EL CHAPO'S FAMILY MEMBERS CROSS US BORDER IN APPARENT DEAL WITH TRUMP ADMINISTRATIONFederal officials praised the guilty plea, saying "with each passing day, you are seeing the sunset of the Sinaloa Cartel.""The Chapitos latest violence reflects their fading future.Their leaders who remain free are now paranoid, distrusted and desperate," U.S. Attorney Adam Gordon wrote. The U.S. State Department has issued rewards of up to $10 million for information leading to their arrests and convictions."The guilty plea by Ovidio Guzman Lopez, son of El Chapo, is a real victory for both the United States and Mexico but also a clear win for the rule of law," said Acting Special Agent in Charge for Homeland Security Investigations Arizona Ray Rede."So much blood and violence lay with the Guzman family as well as spreading terror and plaguing both sides of the border with deadly drugs and weapons no more. Its impossible to measure the amount of work HSI and partner agencies have spent in securing this guilty verdict, but what is clear and evident is that no one is beyond the reach of law enforcement and our nations laws.Deliberate and coordinated teamwork resulted in todays victory."

Pennsylvania officials reported statewide issues Friday with the state's 911 system."Pennsylvania is experiencing a statewide intermittent 911 outage," the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) said in an alert Friday. "Individuals experiencing issues contacting 911 are asked to contact their local 911 center on their non-emergency lines. Check your (county's) social media and website for more information."Randy Padfield, director of PEMA, stressed at a news conference that the issues were intermittent and began around 2 p.m. when some calls failed to be delivered.PEMAs 911 team began investigating the issue immediately to "identify the root cause of the issue as a standard practice," Padfield said.OUTDATED 911 SYSTEM NEEDS AN UPDATE TO PREVENT CYBERATTACK, EXPERT WARNSA conference bridge line was established between all public safety answering points, he said. And because several counties were reporting the same issue and the cause hadnt been identified, "out of an abundance of caution, a statewide Wireless Emergency Alert and emergency alert System message was sent to the public to notify them of the intermittent issues," he said."Currently, our teams are engaged with the public safety answering points or 911 centers and the Next Gen 911 service provider, monitoring the system, and the system continues to have some intermittent connectivity issues at this point in time," he said. "They are still trying to troubleshoot."He said while the cause has yet to be identified, the majority of calls are going through, and Pennsylvanians should continue to call 911 if they need help.GOV. ABBOTT DEMANDS COMPREHENSIVE OVERHAUL OF TEXAS FLOOD WARNING SYSTEMS AS DEATH TOLL RISESIf a call doesnt go through, "they should use the backup seven-digit administrative line or follow the instructions of their local 911 center or public safety answering point," he added. But he urged people not to call 911 just to test if its working."If they test the system and hang up on the system, that is considered an abandoned call," he explained. "The 911 centers have to go back and investigate that call. So, we ask for the public's cooperation. As we continue, well provide additional updates as they become available."He said theres a "tremendous" amount of redundancy built into the Next Gen 911 system."We've seen it actually perform flawlessly for a lot of severe weather incidents where there are a lot of 911 calls coming into the system," Padfield said, adding that the situation is more of an "anomaly for us and for the Next Gen 911 service provider.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP"We want to resolve it in the shortest amount of time possible."Pennsylvania Gov. Mets star Brandon Nimmo rips All-Star game selections: 'The process is broken'
New York Mets star outfielder Brandon Nimmo is not a fan of the current All-Star selection process in Major League Baseball.Every MLB team has at least one player in the All-Star game, regardless of how worthy they are, because the league mandates every team must have one representative in the game. Nimmo, 32, is not a fan of that process.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"I don't think every team should get a person. It's supposed to be All-Stars. It's not supposed to be, 'Who is the best player on every team?' It's supposed to be, 'Who are the best players in the major leagues?'" Nimmo told the New York Post."The process is broken."The rule of every team being represented in the All-Star game goes back to the early 1970s. Over the years, as more deserving players have been snubbed from the game due to the rule, the process has come under fire from players and fans.MLB ALL-STAR GAME TO FEATURE AUTOMATED BALLS AND STRIKES SYSTEM: REPORTNimmo and teammate Juan Soto were not selected to participate in the All-Star game despite both having strong seasons.Nimmo has a .260 batting average with 18 home runs and 53 RBIs and a .789 OPS in addition to playing a strong left field. Jake Retzlaff withdraws from BYU shortly after sexual assault lawsuit dismissal
BYU football player Jake Retzlaff is no longer a member of the football program. The move signals the official start of his process to transfer to another school. In a social media post Friday, Retzlaff confirmed he had reached the "difficult decision" to withdraw and noted he would "step away" from the Cougars' football program."After a lot of prayers, reflection and conversations with those I trust, Ive made the difficult decision to officially withdraw from BYU and the BYU football program," Retzlaff posted Friday on Instagram.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"BYU has meant more to me that just football. Its been a place of growth spiritually, mentally and physically. Im grateful for every teammate, coach, staff member and fan whos supported me along the way."BYU QUARTERBACK JAKE RETZLAFF DENIES 2023 SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS IN LAWSUIT RESPONSEThe decision comes after a tumultuous few months that included Retzlaff being named in a sexual assault lawsuit. The suit was later dismissed. The quarterback has one year of eligibility remaining. Since Retzlaff is just shy of graduating, he would likely be classified as a graduate student because he competed in his final year of eligibility. It is also unlikely he would enter the NCAA transfer portal. Retzlaff could instead depart BYU and enroll at another school. In late June, ESPN reported the quarterback intended to play elsewhere in 2025. At that time, Retzlaff had already reportedly started telling his coaches and BYU teammates he was going to leave the school.Retzlaff reportedly faced a suspension for violating the honor code at the university, which is run by the Mormon church, after acknowledging a consensual sexual relationship in his defense against the lawsuit.Retzlaff threw for 2,947 yards and 20 touchdowns with 12 interceptions last season as the Cougars contended for a spot in the Big 12 championship game.BYU coach Kalani Sitake avoided commenting on Retzlaffs situation at Big 12 media days earlier this week, saying it was a private matter. The Associated Press contributed to this report.Follow Fox News Digitals sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

As US-backed group delivers 70 million meals, UN and NGOs fight to discredit Gaza aid rival
The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), with support from the U.S. and Israel, has distributed some 70 million meals to Gazans since May. But its aid distribution system has been under consistent attack from Hamas and from some unlikely quarters the world's leading aid groups.Earlier this month, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini called for the "end to the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) since it provides nothing but starvation and gunfire to the people of Gaza." He went on to call it an "abomination."His statement noted that 230 NGOs, including Amnesty International, Oxfam International, Norwegian Refugee Council and Save the Children signed their names to an open letter criticizing GHF while urging a return to the U.N.-led aid distribution model.US-BACKED GAZA AID GROUP LAUNCHES BOLD NEW SYSTEM TO DELIVER FOOD DIRECTLY TO FAMILIESCritics say UNRWA's ties to Hamas have put its very existence at risk, especially given the success of the GHF operation.Gerald Steinberg, the founder and president of NGO Monitor, told Fox News Digital these groups include "anti-Israel superpowers" with "massive PR budgets and dedicated staffs and are able to promote their attacks on GHF widely."Steinberg claimed that GHF has already demonstrated "that aid to Gaza can be provided without relying on the old corrupt billion-dollar aid industry led by U.N. agencies like UNRWA and the NGOs that are allied with Hamas."Steinberg said the number of signatories to the letter has grown to more than 230 as the "powerful NGO network is fighting back and making false accusations in an all-out political effort to force Israel and other donors to end the GHF operation."AMERICAN VETERANS ATTACKED, INJURED WHILE DISTRIBUTING AID IN GAZA WITH US-BACKED GROUPGHF interim Executive Director John Acree said he has no enmity for the NGO signatories of the letter."They write papers and letters and sign documents, and yet were doing it," Acree said. He implored the groups to "please, come. Come and help us."Acree says GHF reached out to other aid groups "daily" to ask for support. In some cases, humanitarian workers have entered discussions that "were hoping will eventually lead to partnerships and implementation."Since May, GHF has faced numerous criticisms about its operations, including accusations that Gazans have been killed and injured at distribution sites. In response to Fox News Digitals questions about Lazzarinis remarks, an UNRWA spokesperson emphasized that "UNRWA, like the rest of the U.N., has repeatedly condemned the current aid distribution system in Gaza," which it says "is costing more lives than it saves."UNRWA alleged that "800 starving people have been reported killed since this scheme started operating on the 28th of May," adding that "instead of orderly food distribution, this system brings dehumanization, chaos and death."Lazzarini once again went on X to condemn the U.S.-backed aid mechanism, claiming that "a functioning system was replaced with a deadly scam to force the displacement of people+ deepen the collective punishment of the Palestinians in Gaza."AMERICAN VICTIMS OF TERRORISM COULD SOON SUE INTERNATIONAL ORGS IF CRUZ'S BILL PASSESGHF released a statement Friday as the war of words continued."These false and misleading stats come directly from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry," the statement said. "The U.N.s reliance and coordination with a terrorist organization to falsely smear our effort is not only disturbing but should be investigated by the international community."Hamas has responded violently to GHFs arrival on the aid scene. Acree said that GHFs operation "is going against [Hamas] system of stealing foreign aid, of controlling the market prices, of basically robbing the Palestinians that live in Gaza of their livelihoods and their economic welfare, and were breaking that."So far, 12 Palestinian GHF staff members have been killed and possibly submitted to "summary execution" on June 11. On July 5, two "highly decorated" U.S. veterans working with GHF were harmed in a grenade attack at a GHF distribution site.Acree said that GHF is evolving. The organization "did not expect the desperation" it encountered."Weve been told by the Gazans this is the first time theyve ever received free aid or food, and theyve had to pay for it up til now," he said. To counter that desperation, Acree said that GHF is "taking measures now to help tap that tension and to help them understand that were there to help and relieve that hunger."He said the group still needs "more aid. We still need a lot more help," which includes partnerships with the U.N. and NGOs.The U.S. Agency for Infrastructure and Development has given $30 million to the GHF. Two sources who spoke to Reuters said the U.S. may approve $30 million per month in grants to the GHF in the future.

Inside longtime Biden aide's marathon closed-door grilling in House GOP cover-up probe
Ashley Williams, a longtime ally of former President Joe Biden, met with House investigators behind closed doors for nearly six hours Friday as Republicans probe allegations the Democrat's top aides hid his mental decline.A source familiar with the transcribed interview told Fox News Digital Williams said she did not "recall" various things "an untold number of times.""Examples include she could not recall if she spoke with President Biden in the last week, if teleprompters were used for Cabinet meetings, if there were discussions about President Biden using a wheelchair, if there were discussions about a cognitive test, if she discussed a mental or physical decline of President Biden, if she ever had to wake President Biden up and how she got involved with his 2020 campaign," the source said.Williams told House investigators Biden is fit to be president today, the source said.COMER DISMISSES BIDEN DOCTOR'S BID FOR PAUSE IN COVER-UP PROBE: 'THROWING OUT EVERY EXCUSE'In addition to whether senior aides covered up Biden's alleged decline, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., is looking into whether any presidential orders were signed via autopen without the former commander in chief's knowledge.Any allegations of wrongdoing so far have been denied by the ex-president's allies.'PRESIDENTIAL INCAPACITY': SENATE REPUBLICAN SEEKS PAPER TRAIL OF BIDEN'S AUTOPEN USEBut Republican investigators have pointed to Biden's disastrous June 2024 debate and subsequent revelations in the media that there were more concerns from Biden's inner circle about his fitness for office than previously known.Williams, however, argued he was in command of himself during that debate, the source said. The former White House aide said nothing to reporters when entering or leaving the committee meeting room for her voluntary interview.Fox News Digital reached out to Williams' lawyers for their account of events inside the room.It was a staff-led meeting, but Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, briefly stopped in for just under 30 minutes to show "solidarity" with the witness, the progressive told reporters afterward."I do think that it is important that I show up because if they are going to make allegations about the former commander in chief, egregious allegations they continue to wage, I want to make sure thatI'm in the room to correct the record because a lot of times they like to mischaracterize things," she said. When asked by Fox News Digital if the interview was still ongoing as she exited, Crockett answered, "It's still going. I'm leaving early. I've got to get to another thing."FAR-LEFT FIREBRAND SAYS SHE 'NEVER HAD A CONCERN' ABOUT BIDEN'S MENTAL STATE AS HOUSE PROBE HEATS UPThe source who spoke with Fox News Digital said Crockett had come in during the GOP's questioning session and did not ask any questions herself. Fox News Digital reached out to her office for a response.Williams is a longtime Biden ally whose time with the Democrat goes back to assisting second lady Jill Biden during the Obama administration, according to a 2019 profile of Biden staffers.Williams later worked for Bidens 2020 campaign and presidential transition team. She served as his trip director before being hired by the White House as deputy director of Oval Office operations and a special assistant to the president.Williams ended her White House tenure as deputy assistant to the president, senior advisor to the president and director of strategic outreach, according to her LinkedIn page.Notably, the social media page also says Williams still works for the ex-leader as senior advisor in the Office of Former President Joe Biden. She was subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee last year during Republicans investigation into Bidens cognitive health, but GOP investigators say the former White House blocked her from giving any information. The Democratic staffer is the third person to appear before committee investigators in recent weeks.Former Biden White House physician Kevin O'Connor appeared for a sworn deposition Wednesday after being subpoenaed by Comer.

Roseanne Barr and John Goodman haven't spoken in 'seven or eight years'
John Goodman opened up about his relationship with former co-star Roseanne Barr, years after her firing from the revival of their hit show, "Roseanne."During a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, the 73-year-old actor revealed he and the 72-year-old actress "havent talked for about seven or eight years.""Id rather doubt if she wants to talk to me," Goodman shared.Goodman and Barr played on-screen spouses Dan and Roseanne Conner in the hit sitcom "Roseanne" for nine seasons, from 1988 to 1997. In 2018, the two reunited for a revived 10th season of "Roseanne," along with other main cast members from the show's original run.ROSEANNE BARR CLAIMS 'HOLLYWOOD HAS MADE ITSELF IRRELEVANT' TO AMERICANSThe nine-episode season debuted on ABC in March 2018, and the show was quickly renewed for an 11th season after the success of its premiere episode. However, Barr was fired from "Roseanne" in May 2018 after she tweeted a racist remark about Valerie Jarrett, a former advisor to former President Obama.Though Barr issued several apologies for her remarks, the planned 11th season of "Roseanne" was also canceled. In June 2018, ABC announced it would proceed with the revival, which was retitled "The Conners." The show returned in October of that year and featured every original cast member except Barr, whose character's disappearance was explained by an off-screen death. While speaking with THR, Goodman reflected on the close relationship he shared with Barr during the show's original run.LIKE WHAT YOURE READING?
