A Navy pilot was rescued from the waters off Virginia on Wednesday after an F/A-18 Super Hornet went down during a routine training flight.The crash happened around 10 a.m. ET, according to Lt. Jackie Parashar, a spokesperson for Naval Air Force Atlantic. The pilot, assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 83 in Virginia Beach, was found by search and rescue crews at 11:21 a.m. and taken to a local hospital. The jet remains in the water as the Navy investigates the cause.Once the investigation is complete, the Navy will decide whether to order a safety stand-down a pause in operations to focus on safety training and risk reduction.The incident is the latest in a string of F/A-18 mishaps. In May, a Super Hornet slid into the Red Sea after failing to land on the USS Harry S. Truman. Both pilots ejected safely. A public defender with Brooklyn Defender Services (BDS) was fired over a social media post in which he appeared to call for violence against Israelis. Despite sharing the same acronym as the anti-Israel boycott, divestment and sanctions movement, Brooklyn Defender Services is a New York City public defense organization with no affiliation to it.Lucas Gomez, a public defender, recently responded to a post in which someone asked, "What everyone needs to start asking is who will take 7 million Israelis in?" Gomez wrote in response ,"No one needs to ask this question when firing squads exist," according to screenshots posted on X by the watchdog group StopAntisemitism."An employee from Gomezs own office alerted us to his vile post calling for firing squads," a spokesperson for StopAntisemitism told Fox News Digital, adding that "it is beyond alarming that an attorney entrusted with upholding the law would engage in such violent rhetoric."The organization argued that Gomezs law license should be revoked.In response to Fox News Digitals request for comment, Gomez apologized for the post and said the "indefensible" comment came from "misplaced emotions" about the war in Gaza."I want to sincerely apologize for my post. The Pentagon is encouraging its civilian employees to join a "volunteer force" assisting the Department of Homeland Security's immigration efforts, Fox News has learned.The Defense Department notified its roughly 950,000 civilian employees in a Wednesday email, saying they can apply to work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as well as Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on a temporary basis."DHS and the DOD officially signed a [memorandum of agreement] that allows DOD civilians to participate in the detail," a U.S. defense official told Fox News. "DOD civilian employees are now able to apply for these details via USAJOBS.The Department pushed out an email to civilian employees encouraging them to apply yesterday."The USAJOBS posting says "extensive overtime" may be required and conditions at some locations could be "austere." Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was in his office when a bullet broke through the glass of his office at the teams practice facility in May 2024, according to a report.Reid was not struck by the bullet and there were no injuries reported from the incident, The Kansas City Star reported on Wednesday. A federal appeals court cleared the way for U.S. District Judge James Boasberg to continue to rule on the fate of hundreds of CECOT migrants deported by the Trump administration earlier this year dissolving an emergency stay it previously handed down, and sending the case back down to the lower court for further consideration.The ruling from the three-judge panel for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit dissolves an emergency stay granted to the Trump administration earlier this year, citing a significantly new factual situation at play, and remanded the case back to the lower court for future proceedings.At issue is a preliminary injunction handed down by Boasberg earlier this year. His injunction provisionally certified a class of CECOT migrants challenging their removal to CECOT under the Alien Enemies Act in March, and ordered the Trump administration to "facilitate" due process proceedings for the hundreds of migrants being detained there.WHO IS JAMES BOASBERG, THE US JUDGE AT THE CENTER OF TRUMP'S DEPORTATION EFFORTS?The Trump administration immediately appealed that ruling to the higher court, which agreed to grant it an emergency administrative stay.Judges on the three-member panel stressed in their order Thursday that they were not ruling on the order itself, or the merits of the appeal filed by the Trump administration.Rather, the court said, their decision was due to the factual situation on the ground, after hundreds of Venezuelan migrants deported to CECOT were removed from the prison and sent to Venezuela, as part of a prisoner exchange with President Nicols Maduro."While its appeal raised serious questions about a courts power to direct the Executives diplomatic conduct, we do not reach those questions because of a fundamental change in circumstances," the court wrote, noting that the class members "have since been released from Salvadoran custody and transferred to Venezuela, where they are not likely to remain in custody.""We express no opinion on what kind of class or relief, if any, may be appropriate in light of the changed circumstances," they added.This is a breaking news story.
