Ex-Biden spokesman who called mental fitness doubts a conspiracy only met with him twice: Comer
One of former President Joe Biden's staunchest defenders in the last year of his presidency only met with the ex-commander in chief in person twice while working at the White House, a top Republican said.House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., has been leading the closed-door transcribed interview of Ian Sams, who served as a top spokesman on matters related to congressional investigations and other probes during the latter two years of the Biden administration."That was probably the most informative transcribed interview slash deposition we've had thus far. I'll give Mr. Sams credit. He answered our questions," Comer told reporters."I think one of the most shocking things to me is he communicated with Joe Biden two times. He saw Joe Biden, talked to Joe Biden two times, the entire stint as White House spokesperson, but yet he would every day tweet and issue statements from the podium of the White House."RON KLAIN DODGES REPORTERS AFTER MARATHON GRILLING IN BIDEN COVER-UP PROBEComer told Fox News Digital in a statement following the interview that Sams interacted with Biden on four occasions in total two in-person meetings, one virtual meeting and one phone call.Sams did notably leave the White House in August 2024, before Republicans began questioning Biden's autopen use and before the myriad clemency orders were signed by the ex-president. But he did defend Biden during some of the most politically consequential moments of his term. The longtime left-wing operative served as senior advisor and spokesman for the White House Counsels Office from May 2022 through August 2024, where he served as a fierce defender of Biden during both House Republicans investigations into his ties to family members foreign business endeavors and Special Counsel Robert Hurs probe into Bidens handling of classified documents.Notably, Sams criticized "wrong"and "inaccurate" findings in Hur's report on Biden in comments to the press in February 2024. Hur had declined to charge Biden, writing that "at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory."LONGTIME BIDEN AIDE SAYS HE STOOD TO EARN UP TO $8M HAD PRESIDENT WON RE-ELECTIONComer told reporters on Thursday, however, "In fact, Robert Hur spent more time with Joe Biden than Ian Sams.""Ian Sams is the one that would counter everything Robert Hur or anytime anyone would suggest that Joe Biden wasn't mentally fit. He would say no, he's at the top of his game," Comer said. "He interacted with the president two times, the entire time. The entire time he worked in the White House."Days after Biden's disastrous June 2024 debate against President Donald Trump, Sams dismissed House Republicans' inquiry into Biden's former White House physician just one of several instances where he vehemently defended Biden's mental acuity from scrutiny."Americans question President Biden's ability to lead the country," Comer wrote to Dr. Kevin O'Connor in early July 2024. "The Oversight Committee is concerned your medical assessments have been influenced by your private business endeavors with the Biden family"Sams told Newsweek in response, "Here they go again, pushing their crazy, discredited conspiracy theories in order to score another hit on [Fox News' Maria] Bartiromo."He similarly told MSNBC days after that debate that Biden was "sharp" and asked "tough questions."Sams went as far as to send a letter to the White House Correspondents' Association lecturing outlets like CNN, MSNBC and the Associated Press for their coverage of Hur's report."When we ask questions, When you said this, did Joe Biden tell you that? Well you know, I got it from the president. Did Joe Biden tell you this, did Joe Biden send you an email himself? Well, no. So it raises serious concerns and serious questions about who was calling the shots in the White House," Comer said. The House Oversight Committee is investigating whether Biden's inner circle worked to cover up signs of mental decline in the former president, and if any executive actions were signed via autopen without his full knowledge or approval.Biden and his allies have publicly dismissed accusations that he was not behind the decisions he made, however.Specifically regarding the thousands of clemency orders signed via autopen, Biden said in a recent interview with The New York Times that he "made every decision""Rather than drawing conclusions from firsthand experience., Mr. Sams received much of his direction from the White House Counsel and Bidens inner circle. Mr. Sams repeatedly made broad public claims about the Presidents cognitive condition, but he was not in a position to make these claims based on such limited contact," Comer told Fox News Digital."Mr. Sams testimony raises serious questions about who is truly calling the shots in the White House. We will continue to press for answers to ensure full transparency for the American people."Fox News Digital reached out to a spokesperson for Biden and for House Oversight Committee Democrats for comment.

Trump Department of Education rolls out latest step to expand school choice nationwide
FIRST ON FOX The Trump administration is rolling out what will be the fourth legal pathway for bolstering school choice nationwide as the U.S. Department of Education aims to hand back powers to the states before ultimately dismantling itself. The department on Thursday issued what is referred to as a "Dear Colleague Letter to State and Local Education Agencies," providing additional guidance to help state and local school districts better serve students who attend private schools but who are still eligible for federally funded academic support. The letters aim to explain "more efficient and effective ways to best meet students needs."Under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), eligible private school students are entitled to Title I-A funded equitable services, which can include one-on-one tutoring, summer school programs or counseling programs.Since its passage in 1965, private school students and teachers have been eligible to participate in federal education programs sponsored under the law. The department said lawmakers determined that ESEA programs benefit children as opposed to schools and if a child is eligible, he or she may receive program services. Though Title I-A funds don't go to private schools, their students and teachers may still receive services provided or facilitated through the local educational agency (LEA).SUPREME COURT RULES ON TRUMP'S MASS LAYOFFS AT EDUCATION DEPARTMENTThe department notes that private school families are federal taxpayers and their students, therefore, are eligible recipients of services similar to their public school peers using federal funding. The letters also point out that private school students generate a proportion of the Title I-A federal funding that local education agencies receive. The Department of Education said those agencies are encouraged to work with private school officials to identify ways to best support eligible students."It has been a banner year for school choice from President Trumps One Big Beautiful Bill federal school choice tax credit to the Departments guidance to states on how to expand choice under existing law, the Trump Administration is using all available tools to expand school options for students and parents," Department of Education deputy press secretary Ellen Keast said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "President Trump and Secretary McMahon are working to ensure every child has access to an excellent education that best fits their unique learning needs.""Federal taxpayer dollars should support the best education outcomes for students regardless of where they attend school," Hayley Sanon, acting assistant secretary for the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, said in a statement. "The Trump Administration is committed to expanding education choice and ensuring parents can choose an education option that is best for their child.""Improving how equitable services are provided means students in private school can have access to services and supports that best meet their unique learning needs," Sanon added.Thursday's letters are considered the fourth piece of guidance the Department of Education has issued on expanding education choice options under ESEA.SPARKS FLY BETWEEN EDUCATION SECRETARY LINDA MCMAHON AND DEM REP. WATSON COLEMAN: 'YOU SHOULD FEEL SHAMEFUL'In late March, the Department of Education issued guidance encouraging states to use federal Title I funds to expand school choice options for families. That letter highlighted ways states and local districts can reserve funds for direct student services such as advanced coursework, tutoring, dual enrollment and career training, giving parents more say in their childrens education.Department officials said the move was part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to increase flexibility and support for families seeking personalized learning opportunities.Sanon sent another letter in May urging states to strengthen how they identify and respond to unsafe schools, highlighting provisions in federal law that require students in persistently dangerous schools or those who are victims of violent crimes at school to be offered safer alternatives. The department noted that very few schools are formally designated as unsafe despite widespread reports of violent incidents, and Sanon urged states to adopt stronger definitions, improve data collection, and expand school choice options, including transfers and charter schools. The guidance was billed as part of the Trump administrations broader effort to ensure parents can choose safe learning environments for their children. In June, the Department of Education also encouraged states and districts to expand school choice options for families in schools identified as low-performing under federal law. The guidance outlines how local education agencies can use federal Title I funds to support improvement plans that include parent-selected options such as tutoring, dual enrollment or career training and even allow transfers from chronically struggling schools. Again, the Trump administration billed the initiative as part of a broader effort to give parents more meaningful input in their childrens education and ensure access to higher-quality learning opportunities. The U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for Education Secretary Linda McMahon to fire hundreds of employees last month, a move that advances President Donald Trump's plans to dismantle the department. As Trump campaigned on shutting the department down and outsourcing some of its responsibilities to other agencies, McMahon has said its "final mission" is to hand back educational powers to the states.Trump celebrated last month's ruling on social media, writing: "The Federal Government has been running our Education System into the ground, but we are going to turn it all around by giving the Power back to the PEOPLE."

Turley hails Trumps 'tremendous victory' after civil fraud penalty tossed, blasts 'grotesque' use of NY law
An appellate court handed President Trump a "tremendous victory" on Thursday, tossing out the $500 million civil fraud penalty levied against him in the high-profile case brought forth by state Attorney General Letitia James in a move constitutional law attorney Jonathan Turley described as "long overdue.""This entire effort [was] a grotesque use of this New York law," he said on "The Faulkner Focus.""No one lost money in this case. The banks actually wanted more business from President Trump It was an effort by Letitia James to have a trophy win against Trump."NY APPEALS COURT THROWS OUT $500M PENALTY AGAINST TRUMP IN LETITIA JAMES CIVIL CASE"What this opinion has done is to reduce what was a mounted marlin to something of a guppy," he added.Turley told guest host Aishah Hasnie the decision is "good news" for the New York court system, which he argued had lost credibility during the legal process against Trump."Many of us stood there in disbelief that James was allowed to do this. She succeeded in securing a very favorable judge and I want to note that both the judge and James tried to effectively price Trump out of even appealing the case. They insisted that he would have to pony up half a billion dollars just to question what they did in the case, and it was an outrageous effort to effectively price out an appeal," he said.DOJ OPENS GRAND JURY INVESTIGATION INTO LETITIA JAMES TIED TO TRUMP CIVIL CASE"It didn't work, and now we can see that the appellate court said this should never have happened in terms of the fine."Turley concluded by saying that the appellate court delivered a message to the New York business and legal communities that they refuse to allow "raw lawfare."The New York Appellate Division overturned President Trump's civil fraud penalty on Thursday, ruling the disgorgement was an excessive fine that violates the Eighth Amendment. The move does not exonerate the president, however, and the five-member panel upheld findings that Trump and his company were liable affirming that James acted within her authority and that injunctive relief to curb Trump Organization practices was appropriate.Fox News' Michael Dorgan and Maria Paronich contributed to this report.

About 600 CDC workers terminated after court clears part of Trump admin restructuring plan
Approximately 600 employees at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have been terminated, Fox News Digital has confirmed. It comes as part of a major restructuring of the Department of Health and Human Services announced in March. At the time, HHS said the CDC would decrease its workforce by approximately 2,400 employees, "with a focus on returning to its core mission of preparing for and responding to epidemics and outbreaks."A spokesperson for the American Federation of Government Employees told Fox News that roughly 600 CDC employees were receiving final termination notices this week and that the cuts "are across the agency, including the Division of Violence Prevention, EEO, FOIA, the Office of Financial Resources, the offices of the chief information and chief operating officers, and more."The CDC confirmed the roughly 600 recent layoffs, pointing to the March announcement that also said the restructuring would involve the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) responsible for national disaster and public health emergency response transitioning to the CDC to enhance coordination of response efforts. HHS noted the CDC decrease would only be 1,400 including the individuals coming over from ASPR approximately 1,000 individuals.KENNEDY'S HHS TERMINATES CALIFORNIA SEX ED GRANT AFTER IT REFUSES TO DROP 'RADICAL' GENDER LESSONSHealth Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is leading the restructuring of his department as part of President Donald Trump's initiative to "Make America Healthy Again.""We aren't just reducing bureaucratic sprawl. We are realigning the organization with its core mission and our new priorities in reversing the chronic disease epidemic," Kennedy said in a statement at the time. "This Department will do more a lot more at a lower cost to the taxpayer."On April 1, HHS officials sent layoff notices to thousands of employees at the CDC and other federal health agencies, part of the department's sweeping overhaul. Many have been on administrative leave since then paid but not allowed to work as lawsuits played out.A federal judge in Rhode Island last week issued a preliminary ruling that protected employees in several parts of the CDC, including groups dealing with smoking, reproductive health, environmental health, workplace safety, birth defects and sexually transmitted diseases. The ruling did not protect other CDC employees, and layoffs are being finalized across other parts of the agency. The terminations were effective as of Monday, employees were told. The Associated Press reported that affected projects included work to prevent rape, child abuse and teen dating violence. The laid-off staff included people who have helped other countries to track violence against children an effort that helped give rise to an international conference in November at which countries talked about setting violence-reduction goals.MEDICAL GROUP GOES AGAINST CDC, RECOMMENDS COVID SHOTS FOR YOUNG KIDS"There are nationally and internationally recognized experts that will be impossible to replace," Tom Simon, the retired senior director for scientific programs at the CDCs Division of Violence Prevention, told the AP.The latest cuts come less than two weeks after a man fired at least 180 bullets into the CDCs campus and killed a police officer.Kennedy has been pushing other policy changes at the CDC.In May, Kennedy announced that the COVID-19 vaccine for healthy children and healthy pregnant women had been removedfrom the CDC-recommended immunization schedule. The CDC currently advises what it calls "shared clinical decision-making" for children aged 6 months to 17 years who are not moderately or severely immunocompromised. This means the decision is left up to individual discussions between families and their healthcare providers, but the vaccine is not treated as routine.Kennedy made the decision in June to fire all 17 members of the CDC's independent advisory council on vaccines and named eight replacements in a step he said was aimed at "restoring public trust in vaccines."Earlier this week, the HHS secretary blasted the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for going against CDC guidance to recommend that all children 6 to 23 months old receive a complete COVID-19 vaccine series.Kennedy shared a screenshot from the pediatricians association's website, which thanks pharmaceutical companies Merck, Moderna, Pfizer and Sanofi as its top corporate donors.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP"These four companies make virtually every vaccine on the CDC recommended childhood vaccine schedule. AAP is angry that CDC has eliminated corporate influence in decisions over vaccine recommendations and returned CDC to gold-standard science and evidence-based medicine laser-focused on childrens health," Kennedy wrote.Fox News' Leah Crawley and the Associated Press contributed to this report.

Swing-state gov slams Trump plan to nix mail-in voting: He can sign whatever the hell he wants
President Donald Trump took heat from a major swing-state governor and potential 2028 Democratic presidential contender who scoffed Wednesday at the idea of eliminating mail-in balloting by fiat."Donald Trump can sign whatever the hell executive orders he wants to sign and make a show out of whatever he wants, but he can't change the Constitution with an executive order," Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said at a press conference in Harrisburg."The Constitution gives the authority to set our election rules to the states," Shapiro said."Let me remind you that it was just about five years ago that a bipartisan majority in the House and in the Senate passed mail-in voting. And [since] that time, millions of people have voted by mail," Shapiro said. He was referring to Act 77 of 2019, which several Republicans supported but later accused Democrats and left-leaning judges of substantially altering post-hoc.TRUMP SLAMS MAIL-IN BALLOTS AS CORRUPT, BUT MAY NOT HAVE THE POWER TO DERAIL THEMShapiro said Pennsylvania has enjoyed "free and fair" elections and added that Trump has both won and lost the commonwealth in contests throughout his political career."For him to try and put more misinformation out there, to stoke more division and fear amongst people who want to exercise their constitutional right to pick the leaders in their communities and in their commonwealth that is just cynical and wrong."Shapiro said any Trump order will have "no bearing" on Keystone State elections, and that he will support county election officials in all 67 counties in permitting mail-in voting.2028 HOPEFUL CHALLENGES TRUMP'S JUVENILE SURGERY BAN WHILE OPPOSING WOMEN'S SPORTS BILL RESTRICTIONSFormer Pennsylvania House Speaker Bryan Cutler, R-Lancaster, lambasted the bipartisan mail-in-vote law Shapiro referenced accusing Democrats and the popularly-elected Pennsylvania Supreme Court of "diluting" it from its original purpose."Only one party [worked to] eliminate security safeguards, and delay the timelines for elections," Cutler said in an LNP column, adding the Democrat-controlled high bench "unconstitutionally acted to change the law for receiving and counting ballots [and] allowed for drop boxes and stripped the security provisions for mail-in ballots."CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPOn Monday, Trump foreshadowed changes to the election system, pledging to "lead a movement to get rid of mail-in ballots."Trump wrote on Truth Social he would sign an executive order in that regard to "help bring honesty to the 2026 midterm elections," and said states are "merely agent[s]" for the federal government.

Botulism deaths raise food truck safety concerns as doctor preaches 'awareness'
While the weather remains warm, food trucks across the U.S. are thriving but a deadly outbreak overseas may give consumers pause. In Italy, two people recently died in a botulism outbreak linked to a food truck, according to The Telegraph. Fourteen others were hospitalized, all in the Calabria region. The victims, Luigi di Sarno, 52, and Tamara D'Acunto, 45, passed away after eating sandwiches made of sausage and rapini, also known as turnip greens.RAW MILK FROM FLORIDA FARM SICKENS 21 PEOPLE, INCLUDING 6 CHILDREN, HEALTH OFFICIALS SAYTheir deaths raise a question for many: Are food trucks riskier than restaurants?Dr. Michael Policastro told Fox News Digital that botulism is very rare."In the U.S., most cases actually come from home-canned goods or improperly preserved foods not commercial kitchens," the Arizona-based doctor said."I've seen occasional reports from overseas involving street vendors, but here, there's no solid evidence that food trucks are riskier than restaurants."That said, Policastro noted that food trucks can pose greater risks if basic safety steps aren't followed.BUTCHER SHOPS CLOSE AS E. COLI OUTBREAK KILLS 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL, HOSPITALIZES 21 CHILDREN"Food trucks work with limited prep space, smaller refrigeration units and intense heat from cooking in tight quarters," he said."If those factors aren't managed well, the risk [of] any foodborne illness goes up, including botulism."Food trucks also have limited access to water for handwashing compared to brick-and-mortar kitchens, he said."Beyond food safety, there are also physical risks fires, propane issues, even accidents around the truck in crowded areas," Policastro said.FAMILY VACATION DRAMA ERUPTS OVER GRANDMOTHER'S REQUEST FOR DINNER WITH HER GROWN KIDS ONLYHe said that botulism typically manifests in home-canned vegetables or meats, along with garlic or vegetables stored in oil.Other culprits can include baked potatoes wrapped in foil, smoked or fermented fish, certain sausages and cheese sauces, Policastro noted. He added that botulism can be fatal without treatment and typically shows itself 12 to 36 hours after someone consumes contaminated food.'NEXT LEVEL CHEF' CHALLENGES AMERICAN FOOD NORMS WITH 'BUG BITE' INGREDIENTS"Early on, people might notice weakness, fatigue, blurred vision or trouble speaking and swallowing," Policastro said."Then the muscle weakness can spread from the face and head down to the arms and legs. In severe cases, it reaches the respiratory muscles, and you can't breathe without help. Some people also have nausea, vomiting or abdominal bloating."An antitoxin can halt the spread of nerve damage in botulism patients, but immediate hospital care is still essential, as it cannot reverse damage already done, Policastro said.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTERJennifer Behm-Lazzarini, a "Master Chef" winner and owner of food truck L'Ocean Eats, told Fox News Digital that hygiene starts "with sanitizing the trailer after every use.""[That includes] equipment that is inside the station to the truck and all small wares," she said.Behm-Lazzarini, who travels across the Northeast with her food truck, said that it's crucial to keep serving utensils sanitized and to switch out gloves regularly while touching food."Equally important is temperature control, maintaining cold, frozen and hot temperatures of products from the time of procurement to the guests' hands," she said. For more Lifestyle articles, visit foxnews.com/lifestylePolicastro stressed that botulism, although rare, is serious."Most cases aren't coming from your local food truck, but any kitchen can make someone sick if safety rules aren't followed," Policastro said."If you suddenly develop neurological symptoms like blurred vision, slurred speech or trouble breathing, don't wait. Get emergency help. The faster it's treated, the better the outcome."Policastro also said, "Enjoy that taco or sandwich, but pay attention to how the vendor operates. Are they keeping things clean? Is the refrigeration working? Do they handle food safely? A little awareness goes a long way in protecting yourself."

The truth behind those mysterious shipment emails in your inbox
Over the past year, more people have reported receiving order shipment emails for purchases they never made. These messages usually come from legitimate retailers, often sportswear brands or electronics stores, and contain real tracking numbers and delivery details. The products are being shipped to different names at different addresses, but for some reason, the buyer's contact email is yours. It might seem like a harmless clerical error or someone accidentally typing the wrong email address. But when it happens repeatedly, and across multiple unrelated orders, it starts to look less like a coincidence and more like a tactic.Arthur from Cape Coral, Florida, recently reached out with an experience that mirrors what others have been describing:"My wife's e-mail address is showing up in emails from various sports entities to notify her of shipping dates, etc. So far, three separate individuals have ordered products, shipped to a different name at a different address, but used her email as the contact. They didn't use our credit card to place the order. What could be going on? I don't believe it's a coincidence."HOW TO DETECT FAKE AMAZON EMAILS AND AVOID IMPERSONATION SCAMSArthur is right to question what's happening. Scammers are deliberately using real email addresses to push fraudulent purchases through retailer systems with fewer checks. Rather, scammers are deliberately using valid, active email addresses like yours to bypass retailer fraud filters. Numerous sources confirm that fake order and shipping confirmation emails are a common tactic in fraud operations, with criminals exploiting the trust systems placed in legitimate email addresses. When a stolen credit card is used, pairing it with a real email that has not triggered spam alerts increases the chance the transaction will go unnoticed by anti-fraud systems. Retailers often check whether an email address is active or bounces. If the system sees a functioning address, it may be less suspicious than an obviously fake one.Once the order is placed, products are frequently sent to drop addresses or freight-forwarding services, as confirmed by official investigations into brushing scams. These services act as intermediaries, making the scam harder to trace. In that context, your email is simply a means to an end, a validated contact point that helps the operation move forward smoothly.Your email address may have ended up in the hands of scammers through several common methods. The most likely cause is a data breach. Many well-known companies haveexperienced leaks in which customer emails and other information were exposed.Once your email is part of a leaked database, it often circulates on the dark web or in underground forums, where it is freely traded and reused. Even if you were not part of a breach, scammers often use a technique called credential stuffing. This involves testing stolen login details across different websites to confirm which email addresses are active.REMOVE YOUR DATA TO PROTECT YOUR RETIREMENT FROM SCAMMERSThe best thing you can do to prevent this from happening is to invest in a data removal service. While no service promises to remove all your data from the internet, having a removal service is great if you want to constantly monitor and automate the process of removing your information from hundreds of sites continuously over a longer period of time.Check out my top picks for data removal services and get a free scan to find out if your personal information is already out on the web by visiting Cyberguy.com/DeleteGet a free scan to find out if your personal information is already out on the web:Cyberguy.com/FreeScanThese simple but powerful steps can help you protect your inbox, safeguard your identity and stay one step ahead of scammers misusing your email.Start by locking down your email account with a strong, unique password that you dont reuse anywhere else. Federal judge blocks Texas public schools from displaying Ten Commandments in classrooms
A federal judge on Wednesday blocked a Texas bill requiring public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments, the latest in a string of setbacks for red states seeking to introduce the religious text into schools.Judge Fred Biery wrote in an order granting a preliminary injunction that the Republican-led legislature could not demonstrate a tradition of public schools posting the Ten Commandments, which he said was needed for the bill to withstand court precedents."This Court finds there is insufficient evidence of a broad tradition in place at the time of the Founding, and within the history of public education, to justify S.B. 10," Biery wrote.Biery, a Clinton appointee, also said the legislation was not neutral enough on religion to be constitutional. The bill "impermissibly takes sides on theological questions and officially favors Christian denominations over others," the judge wrote.FEDERAL JUDGE BLOCKS ARKANSAS TEN COMMANDMENTS LAW IN CERTAIN DISTRICTSFamilies of numerous religious denominations, as well as non-religious plaintiffs, brought the lawsuit, arguing Texas' bill imposed a religious preference on their children in violation of the First Amendment.Their lawsuit followed the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit deciding in June that a similar law in Louisiana was unconstitutional. Biery partially relied on that ruling to justify his own. A judge in Arkansas overturned yet another bill about the Ten Commandments in public schools this month. The Supreme Court rejected the idea of public schools posting religious texts in classrooms in Stone v. Graham in 1980. That case centered on a bill passed by the Kentucky government that required hanging posters of the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms, which the high court found violated the First Amendment because it lacked a secular purpose.FEDERAL APPEALS COURT RULES LOUISIANA TEN COMMANDMENTS SCHOOL LAW IS UNCONSTITUTIONALBiery observed that while the language in Texas' legislation excluded any religious purposes, lawmakers were vocal about its intent. The judge gave several quotes from state lawmakers, including the bills lead sponsor in the Senate."We want every kid, [kindergarten] through twelve, every day, in every classroom they sit in to look on the wall and read those words because we want them to understand how important that those statements of God, those rules of God are that they see them in their classroom every single day of their public education," State Sen. Phil King, a Republican, said. That and numerous other statements cited by the judge demonstrated that lawmakers had a predominantly religious objective when they passed the bill, Biery said. The bill's authors wrote in a statement accompanying the legislation that they wanted the religious directives displayed on the school walls because they were a significant part of history."Now that the legal landscape has changed, it is time for Texas to pass S.B. 10 and restore the history and tradition of the Ten Commandments in our state and our nation," the legislators said.
