WWW.FOXNEWS.COMICE agent dragged for nearly a block by Honduran migrant attempting to escape federal custody: authoritiesA U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent was dragged for nearly a block in Oklahoma by an illegal alien from Honduras attempting to escape federal custody, authorities said.Jose Melgar-Rivas, 34, of Honduras, has since been charged with assaulting, resisting or impeding a federal officer resulting in bodily injury, U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester of the Western District of Oklahoma announced Wednesday.ICE agents pulled over a vehicle in Oklahoma City Tuesday, and Melgar-Rivas, a Honduran national and an ICE fugitive, refused the officer's demands to exit the vehicle, court documents say.A struggle ensued as officers attempted to remove him, and Melgar-Rivas shifted the vehicle into drive and fled, according to a complaint. An ICE officer became trapped in a door of the vehicle as it accelerated.PENTAGON SCALING DOWN NATIONAL GUARD DEPLOYMENT TO LAThe officer was dragged on a road for nearly a block as Melgar-Rivas tried to escape, the complaint says. The officer ultimately freed himself and sustained multiple injuries.ICE said its Enforcement and Removal Operations agents from Dallas were involved in the incident. The agency shared two photos showing the injured agent's scraped, bloodied upper thigh and a bruised and bandaged arm.Melgar-Rivas was arrested several hours later, prosecutors said. ICE also shared a photo with an agent holding each arm of a handcuffed Melgar-Rivas once he was taken into custody."Ensuring the safety of law enforcement personnel in executing their lawful duties is paramount, and it remains a top priority of the Justice Department," Troester said in a statement. "Those who assault or interfere with members of law enforcement for simply doing their job enforcing the law must and will be held accountable.""Those who assault federal officers will face swift and stern accountability for their actions," Travis Pickard, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Dallas special agent in charge of North Texas and Oklahoma, added. "Violence and any threats of violence to a federal officer in the performance of their duties will result in an immediate and collaborative law enforcement response to track down the perpetrator."DHS: ASSAULTS ON ICE NOW UP NEARLY 700% OVER SAME TIME LAST YEAR"Assaults on federal agents will not be tolerated by the FBI," FBI Oklahoma City acting Special Agent in Charge Joe Ogden said. "We will continue to aggressively support and defend our fellow public servants so they can safely carry out their sworn duties."The Department of Homeland Security has reported a 700% increase in assaults against ICE agents and other immigration enforcement officers in the first six months since President Donald Trump returned to office. The Trump administration has pledged to hold perpetrators accountable to the fullest extent of the law. The Justice Department brought charges against more than a dozen defendants in the July 4 attack against an ICE detention center in Alvarado, Texas, where a police officer was shot in the neck defending the center holding prospective deportees. The FBI on Wednesday captured a Marine Corps reservist believed to have opened fire at the officer and correctional officers that night.Los Angeles has seen a rash of anti-ICE demonstrations since June, but the Pentagon this week removed about half of the 4,000 National Guard troops federalized to protect the city, arguing most "lawlessness" had subsided.Melgar-Rivas appeared Thursday in U.S. District Court in Oklahoma City and was ordered to be detained in federal custody pending further proceedings.Prosecutors say Melgar-Rivas faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000 if convicted. WWW.FOXNEWS.COMHiring illegal immigrants could come with stricter penalties under new GOP proposalEXCLUSIVE: New legislation would create harsher penalties for executives of publicly traded companies who knowingly fail to comply with federal employment eligibility verification laws. The proposal comes as federal immigration authorities continue to crack down on alleged violations of immigration laws, including a criminal search warrant that was executed in California earlier this month on a cannabis facility, which resulted in multiple arrests of illegal immigrants and a child labor investigation."While liberals like Gavin Newsom pretend to care about human rights, the sad truth is that the Democrats open-borders agenda is really about undercutting American wages and ensuring their billionaire donors have a constant supply of cheap, foreign labor," Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, said in a statement.TRUMP 'WORKING ON' DEPORTATION EXEMPTIONS FOR ILLEGAL FARM AND HOSPITALITY WORKERS"So, lets make this simple, executives who abuse illegal immigrants with slave wages should be held personally liable and face severe consequences if theyre caught. This cannot be a country built on servitude. American workers must come first," he added.Specifically, Morenos "Strengthening Accountability for Employers Hiring Individuals and Reforming Enforcement Act" (SAFE HIRE Act) would require a company's CEO and chief human resources officer to sign off on their employment practices in annual SEC reports, including confirming that the company verified the legal work status of all employees.CLICK HERE FOR MORE IMMIGRATION COVERAGEIn addition, companies will certify in their SEC reports that they have disclosed to the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice any "significant deficiencies" that would interfere with their ability to follow federal employment eligibility requirements or of any known violations.IMMIGRATION AUTHORITIES HIGHLIGHT CRIMINAL HISTORY OF MULTIPLE MIGRANTS ARRESTED IN LOS ANGELESExecutives could face up to 10 years in prison and up to a $1 million fine for knowingly making false certifications. Those found responsible for violations involving employing people in the country illegally can face up to 20 years behind bars and a $5 million fine."This isnt about labor laws or penalizing employers and the federal government has made that clear. They care more about lining the pockets of private for-profit detention centers than the children and families wasting away in their care or the billions spent by taxpayers to hold them in these facilities indefinitely," a spokesperson for Gov. WWW.FOXNEWS.COMTwice-deported migrant rapist freed as Dems face heat for sanctuary policiesThe release of a twice-deported rapist in Virginia is putting renewed focus on the dangers posed by Democrat-led sanctuary policies that limit cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).Guatemala national David Cabrera was collared by ICE last week after being set free by sanctuary-aligned jurisdiction Arlington County, who refused to honor a federal detainer and released him without notifying ICE.In a video obtained by Fox News, Cabrera is seen roaming a local street before ICE agents initiate his arrest.ICE ARRESTS ILLEGAL ALIENS PREVIOUSLY RELEASED IN 'SANCTUARY' MASSACHUSETTSCabrera entered the U.S. illegally in 2014 and was convicted of felony rape in 2015. He was sentenced to more than seven years in prison, although a portion of it was suspended. He was released into ICE custody in 2017 and subsequently deported to Guatemala, but re-entered the U.S. again at an unknown time and date. He was then arrested again for a probation violation and deported again in 2020, only to re-enter again.Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons blasted the release, telling Fox News it puts agents and the public at risk."This is the whole reason why sanctuary jurisdictions do not keep America safe," Lyons said. "It lets criminals back on the street to reoffend again. If Arlington had cooperated, we could have arrested him in a secure facility instead, our agents had to track him down in the community, where they could have encountered others."Arlingtons 2022 trust policy allows police to comply with state and federal law but restricts voluntary detainer holds and information-sharing with ICE unless required by law.US ATTORNEY FOR MASSACHUSETTS SAYS INTERFERENCE WITH ICE OPERATIONS IS 'DISTURBING,' THREATENS ARRESTSIn May, the county board removed a provision which had allowed limited police cooperation with ICE, including in cases involving terrorism, gangs, or felony arrests). Since then, local police cannot proactively contact ICE in such cases, though they must comply with legal orders. The Cabrera underlines the dangers posed to the public when jurisdictions do not comply with federal law enforcement, Lyons said.Cabrera was arrested on June 4 for a probation violation and released from Arlington County Adult Detention Centeron July 11 despite an active ICE detainer."You have an individual that is the worst of the worst, someone convicted of rape, and we had the opportunity to deport him. We did deport him and they dont want to turn that individual over the right way," Lyons said."Here you have an aggravated felon thats been deported multiple times and Arlington County is releasing him back into the community. To reoffend again. Its just not right and it doesnt keep the public safe."Lyons said that Arlington County's actions put agents at risk. This comes at a time when agents are being doxxed, and attacks on them have skyrocketed by 830% since January."We wouldnt have to send ICE agents into the community, where they run the chance to run into someone else that we might arrest," Lyons said."We would much rather arrest someone in a secure, safe environment. Its safer for my officers and agents It is safer for that individual were arresting, but its safer for the community as well."Anti-ICE activists across the U.S. have been protesting immigration enforcement, sometimes harassing ICE agents and demanding their badge numbers and the removal of their masks. At times, the protesters have turned violent.ICE agents were attacked and had rocks thrown at their moving vehicles during a raid on a marijuana farm last week, while ICE agents have also come under attack outside an ICE detention facility in Portland. Law enforcement vehicles were also pelted with rocks during deportation-linked rioting in Los Angeles.DHS accused Rep. Salud Carbajal, D-Calif., of showing a violent mob an ICE employees business card, prompting a mob to attack him. The official was struck by a rock and sent to the emergency room, where he received multiple stitches, DHS said.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 13 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMWhite House pushes back forcefully on Epstein file criticism: 'Asinine suggestion'The White House is pushing back against criticism of the administrations handling of files pertaining to Jeffrey Epstein as figures on both sides of the aisle demand their release."The fact that Democrats have now seized on this as if they ever wanted transparency when it comes to Jeffrey Epstein, which is an asinine suggestion for any Democrat to make. The Democrats had control of this building, the White House, for four years, and they didn't do a dang thing when it came to transparency in regards to Jeffrey Epstein and his heinous crimes," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Thursday.Leavitt then attempted to shift focus, saying that President Donald Trump cared more about other issues, such as the GENIUS Act and the border. This echoed a sentiment expressed by Trump, who said that the Justice Department has "bigger problems" than the Epstein case.DEMOCRATS CAPITALIZE ON GOP JEFFREY EPSTEIN FALLOUT WITH NEW DEMANDS FOR JIM JORDANAdditionally, Leavitt told reporters that Trump is not recommending a special prosecutor in the Epstein case, saying that "the idea was floated from someone in the media to the president."A recent joint Justice Department-FBI memo obtained by Axios showed the department and the bureau concluded they had no evidence of Epstein blackmailing powerful people, keeping a client list or being killed.Republicans have grown frustrated with what they see as a lack of transparency from the Trump administration. The president has lashed out amid the criticism, claiming that it is a "hoax" and that those on the right concerned about the release of the files were being "duped" by Democrats.BONDI SHOULD RELEASE 'CREDIBLE' EPSTEIN FILES, TRUMP SAYSOn Wednesday, Trump said Attorney General Pam Bondi would release "whatevers credible" related to the Epstein case."He's dead. He's gone," Trump said of Epstein. "And, all it is, is the Republicans, certain Republicans got duped by the Democrats, and they're following a Democrat playbook and no different than Russia, Russia, Russia and all the other hoaxes."The infighting isnt limited to Republican lawmakers. A source recently told Fox News Digital that FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino was considering resigning over the handling of the files. WWW.FOXNEWS.COM'Irrelevant': Senators push back against Vought's call for more partisan spending processSenators are not thrilled with a top White House official's comments that the government funding process should become more partisan, and fear that doing so could erode Congress power of the purse.Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought told reporters during a Christian Science Monitor Breakfast Thursday morning that he believed "the appropriations process has to be less bipartisan."His sentiment came on the heels of Senate Republicans advancing President Donald Trumps $9 billion clawback package, which would cancel congressionally approved funding for foreign aid and public broadcasting, just a few hours before.THESE ARE THE REPUBLICANS WHO VOTED AGAINST TRUMP'S $9 BILLION CLAWBACK OF FOREIGN AID, NPR FUNDINGUnlike the hyper-partisan bills that have dominated the Senates recent agenda, including the rescissions package and the president's "big, beautiful bill," the appropriations process is typically a bipartisan affair in the upper chamber. That is because, normally, most bills brought to the floor have to pass the Senates 60-vote threshold, and with the GOPs narrow majority, Senate Democrats will need to pass any spending bills or government funding extensions to ward off a partial government shutdown.Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who alluded to issues down the line with the appropriations process if Republicans advanced Trump's resicssions package, took a harsh stance against Vought."Donald Trump should fire Russell Vought immediately, before he destroys our democracy and runs the country into the ground," Schumer said.Members of the Senate Appropriations Committee also did not take kindly to Voughts comments.'LONG OVERDUE': SENATE REPUBLICANS RAM THROUGH TRUMP'S CLAWBACK PACKAGE WITH CUTS TO FOREIGN AID, NPR"I think he disrespects it," Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, said. "I think he thinks that we are irrelevant, and I wish I had actually heard the speech, because, you know, again, everything in context.""But you have to admit that when you look at the quotes that are highlighted in the story this morning, it is pretty dismissive of the appropriations process, pretty dismissive," she continued.Vought has no intention of slowing the rescissions train coming from the White House, and said that there would be more rescissions packages on the way.He noted another would "come soon," as lawmakers in the House close in on a vote to send the first clawback package to the presidents desk."There is no voter in the country that went to the polls and said, Im voting for a bipartisan appropriations process," Vought said. "That may be the view of something that appropriators want to maintain."Both Murkowski and Senate Appropriations Chair Susan Collins, R-Maine, voted against the rescissions package, and warned of the cuts to public broadcasting, lack of transparency from the OMB and the possible effect it could have on legislating in the upper chamber."I disagree with both those statements," Collins said of Voughts push for a more partisan appropriations process. "Just as with the budget that the President submitted, we had to repeatedly ask him and the agencies to provide us with the detailed account information, which amounts to 1000s of pages that our appropriators and their staff meticulously review."Fox News Digital reached out to the OMB for comment.Voughts comments came at roughly the same time as appropriators were holding a mark-up hearing of the military construction and veterans affairs and Commerce, Justice and Science spending bills.Sen. Patty Murray, the top Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Committee, said during the hearing that Senate Republicans coalescing behind the rescissions package would only make hammering out spending bills more difficult, and argued that "trust" was at the core of the process."That's part of why bipartisan bills are so important," she said. "But everyone has to understand getting to the finish line always depends on our ability to work together in a bipartisan way, and it also depends on trust."Other Republicans on the panel emphasized a similar point, that, without some kind of cooperation, advancing spending bills would become even more challenging.Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., said that finding "critical mass" to move spending bills was important, and warned that people have to "quit saying it's gotta just be my way or the highway," following threats Schumer's threats last week that the appropriations process could suffer should the rescissions package pass."People better start recognizing that we're all gonna have to work together and hopefully get these [appropriations] bills to the floor and see what we can move," he said. "But if somebody just sits up and says, Oh, because there's a rescission bill, then I'm not going to work on Appropriations, you can always find an excuse not to do something. Let's figure out how we can work forward."0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 32 مشاهدة 0 معاينة
