'Western diet' blamed for growing risk of GI cancers among young adults
The rates of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers are rising among young adults, with a new peer-reviewed study pointing to the American diet and lifestyle as the primary culprits. The rising risk in younger generations may be linked more to environmental factors than genetics, stated the report, which was recently published in the British Journal of Surgery."Some shared risk factors for early-onset (EO) GI cancer include obesity, sedentary lifestyle, excessive alcohol consumption and smoking," lead researcher Sara Char, M.D., at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, told Fox News Digital.RARE CANCER DIAGNOSES SURGE DRAMATICALLY AMONG MILLENNIALS AND GEN XThe study notes that recent generations are more likely to adopt a "Western-pattern diet" and a "sedentary lifestyle."Colorectal is the most common type of early-onset GIcancer, but pancreatic, esophageal, gastric, biliary, appendiceal and neuroendocrinecancers are also rising in adults under 50, Char noted.Adults born in 1990 have twice the risk of colon cancer and four times the risk of rectal cancer compared to those born in 1950, according to a previous study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.Paul Oberstein, M.D., director of the Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology Program at NYU Langone's Perlmutter Cancer Center, told Fox News Digital that a person's diet does indeed impact the risk of coloncancer.YOUR FAVORITE ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE COULD BE LINKED TO DEADLY FORM OF CANCER, STUDY FINDS"It is reported from previous studies that when someone has a higher amount of foods typical of a Western diet, they have a higher risk of coloncancer," said Oberstein, who was not involved in the research.A "Western diet" typically includes a higher intake of red and processed meats, processed and added sugars, and highly processed and refined grains, according to the oncologist.Processed deli meats, sugary drinks and processed grain snacks are also commonly associated with this type of diet. While the incidence of coloncancerin this group overall remains low, Oberstein recommends investing in more research to explore which factors are causing the increase."We need to conduct more research on whether diet, vitamin supplements, alcohol or other things we ingest or use are contributing to this increase," he said.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTERThe expert also emphasized the importance of following the recommended colon cancer screening guidelines, which begin at 45 years old for most people, and seeking medical attention if any symptoms appear.Common warning signs include changes in bowel habits, blood in the stool, unexplained back or abdominal pain, or unintentional weight loss, all of which warrant speaking to a doctor for an "urgent evaluation," according to Char. For more Health articles, visitwww.foxnews.com/healthTheresearcher added that younger individuals can take preventative measures such as not smoking, avoiding excessive alcohol, limiting red meat consumption, staying physically active and maintaining a healthy body weight.

Aiming to give Trump 'backup,' second Republican enters swing state race for Democrat-held Senate seat
EXCLUSIVE New Hampshire state Sen. Dan Innis pledges that if he wins election to the U.S. Senate and makes it to Washington D.C., "Ill call bull when I see it."Innis, a three-term Republican state senator, made his pledge on Wednesday as he launched his Senate campaign in the key New England swing state in the 2026 race to succeed retiring longtime Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen. It's expected to be a competitive and expensive race for a seat the GOP is working to flip from blue to red. New Hampshire, along with Georgia and Michigan, are the three top targets for Senate Republicans as they aim to expand their 53-47 majority in the chamber."I built businesses, raised cattle, balanced budgets. I believe in borders, law and order, and putting Americans first. Ive worked to lower your taxes and to stop illegal immigration," Innis, a small business owner, said in a campaign launch video.FORMER TRUMP AMBASSADOR LAUNCHES SENATE CAMPAIGN IN KEY SWING STATEPointing to President Donald Trump, he said that "Trump needs backup in the Senate."In his first national interview after announcing his candidacy, Innis told Fox News Digital that "we need New Hampshire values in Washington, D.C., and I dont think we have them right now."BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL FRONT-AND-CENTER IN KEY SENATE RACEWhile Republicans enjoy total control of New Hampshire's state government, the Granite State for nearly a decade has had an all-Democrat congressional delegation.Innis argued that the state's congressional delegation "isnt carrying the message that were hearing on the ground in New Hampshire and that is keep government out of my life, keep taxes low, secure the border and help grow the economy."He also took aim at four-term Rep. Chris Pappas, who, at this early point in the cycle, has no opposition in the race for the Democratic Senate nomination."I dont think Rep. Pappas has represented us well at all," Innis charged. "We need someone new down there whos going to take New Hampshire to Washington and show them how to get things done."ONLY ON FOX NEWS: SENATE REPUBLICAN CAMPAIGN CHAIR REVEALS HOW MANY SEATS HE'S AIMING FOR IN 2026Innis becomes the second Republican to jump into the Senate race in New Hampshire.Former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, who served as ambassador to New Zealand during Trump's first term in the White House, announced his candidacy last month. Ahead of his campaign launch, Brown had been crisscrossing New Hampshire since late last year, meeting with Republican and conservative groups. When asked how he will compete with Brown, who is much more well-known in New Hampshire, Innis told Fox News "everyone has an impression of him [Brown]. Not everyone knows me yet, so I have an opportunity to show people who I am to help them to see that Im the best candidate to beat Chris Pappas."Both Brown and Innis have traveled to the nation's capital to meet with the National Republican Senatorial Committee and with Trump's political team."President Trump will pay close attention and my guess is he will probably play in this race and I hope Im his choice," Innis said.

Portland City Council considers how to boot ICE out of city facility
Portlands progressive-leaning city council is exploring ways to expel Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from a detention facility that has become a flashpoint for violent clashes between agents and radical agitators.Last week, city councilors told a packed hearing that they would consider revoking ICEs permit to operate itsSouth Waterfront facility alongSouth Moody Avenue due to alleged violations of a 2011conditional-use permit, according to local news outletWillamette Week.Thepermit allows detention and administrative useunder specificlimitations, but lawmakers have raised concerns that ICE has been holding detainees there for longer than the required 12-hour limit.PATRIOTIC ICE OFFICER REPLACES AMERICAN FLAG AFTER PROTESTERS BURNED EXISTING BANNER AT PORTLAND FACILITYResidents and lawmakers raised moral concerns too, saying that the facility undermines the citys sanctuary city policy, while residents testified about targeted arrests, gas attacks and intimidation."Our values of sanctuary and humanity are under siege," local resident Michelle Dar said. She also said that federal agents armed actions threatened everyones safety, not just that of immigrants.Other residents complained that loud bangs and flashbangs were disrupting life for residents of subsidized housing and students of a local school. A handful of people also blamed Antifa for the ugly scenes outside the facility.Chaotic scenes have been unfolding outside the facility since June, including in one incident where a large group of anti-ICE protesters tried to block law enforcement vehicles from entering and exiting the facility, forcing agents to deploy rubber bullets, tear gas and flash bangs to disperse the crowd.SUSPECTED ICE FACILITY ATTACKERS ARRESTED IN BLUE CITY, CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING FEDERAL OFFICERSViolent agitators have also smashed windows, pelted agents and the facility with rocks and other objects. On Independence Day, violent rioters cut internet cables, damaged the sprinkler system, hurled rocks and fireworks at law enforcement and burned an American flag, according to DHS.But most residents and lawmakers concerns pertained to ICEs alleged violation of its permit terms, particularly related to how long detainees were being held, rather than the violence caused by protesters or agitators. They urged the council to revoke the permit, citing a local report that ICE had violated the permit more than two dozen times by holding detainees for longer than 12 hours."If we allow ICE to continue to operate when they have violated their permits, that means that anything becomes permissible moving forward," City Council Member Angelita Morillo told the community and public safety committee hearing. "And so, for me, that change in information has changed the calculation."Meanwhile, City Council Member Steve Novick said the council should take a broader moral stand against the federal deportation machine."This is an assault on our democracy as a whole The assault on immigrants is the tip of the spear," Novick said, per the outlet. "We should not be trying to figure out how to keep our heads low and avoid the attention of this administration."City Council Member Eric Zimmerman said the chamber was exploring legal pathways to revoke the permit and that the city attorneys office was working on a memo about the citys legal options regarding the ICE facility.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPBorder CzarTom Homan last week vowed to "double down and triple down" on sanctuary cities that are obstructing ICE operations, specifically mentioning Portland."We're going to do the job," Homan said on Fox News' "Kudlow.""We're going to do it in Portland too. But for the mayors of New York City and Chicago, President [Donald] Trump made it clear two weeks ago, we are going to double down and triple down the sanctuary cities. If we can't arrest that bad guy in the jail, then we'll go to the community and we'll find him. Or we'll do more worksite enforcement."Fox NewsAlexandra Koch andBill Melugin contributed to this report.

Mark Halperin questions why expert and Republican analysis on Biden's autopen use 'absent' from NYT report
Political commentator Mark Halperin called out The New York Times for their interview with former President Joe Biden published on Sunday, questioning why expert and Republican analysis on the president's use of an autopen to "delegate pardons" was "absent" from their write-up.On Mondays episode of "The Morning Meeting," Halperin argued that The New York Times disregarded basic journalistic standards by failing to include opinions from experts and Republicans on Bidens claims about his use of the autopen."If this shoe were on the other foot, I can't believe The New York Times wouldn't have gone and gotten Adam Schiff's reaction. There's no Republican reaction in that story," Halperin noted. "There's no legal expert quoted in the story"BIDEN DEFENDS CONTROVERSIAL AUTOPEN USE FOR MASS CLEMENCY DECISIONS IN NYT INTERVIEW: 'A WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE'Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer interjected, noting that there is a pattern from the "legacy left-wing press" in refusing to engage with Republicans on stories that concern possible wrong-doing by Democrats."That's the point I'm making," Halperin replied."It's like, that's basic journalism 101. Biden is now taking the position that he could delegate pardons, right? That's the position they took in the story. Everything else is fine. That's the one thing. So what do law professors think about that? What do Republicans think about that? It's absent from the story," he added. The political commentator continued, stating that he cannot understand "as a matter of journalism," why The Times would forgo expert and dissenting opinions on Biden's claims about his autopen use. He said that if the outlet was writing about a Republican politician in the same circumstances, "they'd have both of those things.""They'd have some hysterical law professors saying this is an impeachable offense, and they'd have a Republican saying this needs to be investigated," Halprin asserted. "It's absent from the story, it's madness."TRUMP RESPONDS TO BIDEN DISMISSAL OF AUTOPEN PROBE, SAYS HE DIDN'T KNOW 'WHAT WAS GOING ON'In The Times' interview with Biden, the former president argued that because he "granted clemency to so many people," he had his staff use the tool to sign the pardons."'I made every decision,' Mr. Biden said in a phone interview on Thursday, asserting that he had his staff use an autopen replicating his signature on the clemency warrants because were talking about a whole lot of people," The Times reported. However, The Times report said Biden did not personally approve each name included in the broad, categorical pardons."Rather, after extensive discussion of different possible criteria, he signed off on the standards he wanted to be used to determine which convicts would qualify for a reduction in sentence," The Times reported.Bidens chief of staff issued final approval for multiple high-profile preemptive pardons during the former presidents final days in office.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPFox News Digital has reached out to The New York Times for comment.

Obama bros confronted on Democratic Party's intolerance problem, history of excluding people
Two former Obama staffers admitted Tuesday that intolerance within the Democratic Party was a "huge problem" that needs to be addressed if the party hopes to win future elections.Tommy Vietor and Jon Favreau, Obama alumni and hosts of "Pod Save America," joined the "Flagrant" podcast for a wide-ranging discussion on President Donald Trump's campaign promises, political hypocrisy and the internal purity tests plaguing the Democratic Party."In my lifetime, Ive never seen a political party as obsessed with excluding people," "Flagrant" co-host Akaash Singh told Vietor and Favreau."And the irony is, Democrats seem to love talking about inclusivity. Ad nauseam. Inclusivity, inclusivity, inclusivity. But if somebody steps out of line from what we want them to say, F--- you forever. You have no chance of redemption."OBAMA TELLS DEMOCRAT BIG WIGS TO TOUGHEN UP, START BACKING CANDIDATES THAT CAN ACTUALLY WIN"How do Dems fix that?" co-host Andrew Schulz posed to the former Obama officials.Vietor acknowledged there was "a huge problem" over the past few years with liberals being unwilling to engage in conversation with people they disagree with. But he believes that the Democratic Party is now adopting a more open attitude.Vietor recounted how he had once been invited to a Barstool Sports show but declined the request, fearing at the time that his podcast audience would get "upset" with him because of things Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy had said."I think back to that, and I'm embarrassed, and I'm mad at myself," he confessed.FORMER OBAMA SPEECHWRITER ADMITS SHUNNING CONSERVATIVE IN HIS FAMILY WAS A MISTAKEVietor said hes since changed his attitude and believes the party at large is "course correcting" and "learning from those mistakes."He cited how Bernie Sanders welcomed podcast host Joe Rogans endorsement in the 2020 election as a sign there was willingness for the party to be a "big tent" party again. He also pushed back on the idea that viewpoint diversity was largely a Democratic Party problem."Democrats can be annoying. We can be scold-y. But I think sometimes it's online mobs more than the party," he said of left-wing cancel culture.Vietor went on to praise Trump as a "genius" for inviting Democrats like HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. onto his cabinet and conceded that Democrats could learn from that."Democrats, you're right, sometimes we have like a laundry list of things, and you don't check all the boxes, we don't allow you in the tent," he said.Vietor advocated for the party to return to "Obama-era politics" where he argued leaders in the party had respectful engagement with voters they disagreed with on hot-button issues.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP At another point in the podcast, Favreau responded to a question from the co-hosts about Democrats' "morally superior" attitude. He conceded that lecturing Trump supporters about racism and his "horrible" policies wasn't a winning strategy to expand the Democratic Party coalition."Is our ultimate goal to just be, like, right on the internet? Or is the goal to, like, pass policies that we deeply believe in that are going to improve people's lives? Because if that's the goal, then we're going to need to have a bigger coalition than a bunch of White liberals," he said.

Pentagon scaling down National Guard deployment to LA
The Pentagon is releasing 2,000 National Guard troops from their federal mission to Los Angeles."Thanks to our troops who stepped up to answer the call, the lawlessness in Los Angeles is subsiding," chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement to Fox News on Tuesday night. "As such, the Secretary has ordered the release of 2,000 California National Guardsmen (79th IBCT) from the federal protection mission."The Trump administration had federalized roughly 4,000 National Guard soldiers and deployed 700 Marines to Los Angeles in early June to quell anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) riots and protests. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass categorized the rescission of about half of the National Guard troops deployed to the city as a "retreat."4 ARRESTED IN ALLEGED BORDER PATROL OPERATION SABOTAGE ATTEMPT NEAR LA AS ATTACKS ON IMMIGRATION AGENTS SURGE"This happened because the people of Los Angeles stood united and stood strong. We organized peaceful protests, we came together at rallies, we took the Trump administration to court all of this led to todays retreat," the Democratic mayor claimed in a statement, adding, "We will not stop making our voices heard until this ends, not just here in LA, but throughout our country."Bass said in a press conference that the National Guards primary mission has been to guard two buildings that "frankly didnt need to be guarded.""I am hoping that this experiment with the lives of people ends here," she said.California Gov. Gavin Newsom sued the Trump administration for deploying California National Guard troops despite his opposition. He argued that the National Guard troops were likely violating the Posse Comitatus Act, which prohibits troops from conducting civilian law enforcement on U.S. soil.Newsom won an early victory in the case after a federal judge ruled the Guard deployment was illegal and exceeded Trumps authority. An appeals court tossed that order, and control of the troops remained with the federal government. The federal court is set to hear arguments next month on whether the troops are violating the Posse Comitatus Act.NEWSOM ESCALATES TRUMP IMMIGRATION FEUD WITH FOUL-MOUTHED INSULTThe deployment of National Guard troops was for 60 days, though Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had the discretion to shorten or extend it "to flexibly respond to the evolving situation on the ground," the Trump administrations lawyers wrote in a June 23 filing in the legal case.Following the Pentagons decision Tuesday, Newsom said in a statement that the National Guards deployment to Los Angeles County has pulled troops away from their families and civilian work "to serve as political pawns for the President."He added that the remaining troops "continue without a mission, without direction and without any hopes of returning to help their communities.""We call on Trump and the Department of Defense to end this theater and send everyone home now," he said.In late June, the top military commander in charge of troops deployed to Los Angeles asked Hegseth for 200 Guardsmen to be returned to wildfire-fighting duty. Newsom had warned the Guard was understaffed as California entered peak wildfire season. The end of the deployment comes a week after Bass was blasted on social media for interrupting federal authorities and National Guard troops during an operation at MacArthur Park, a known hotbed for homelessness and crime. The mayor claimed children were playing in the park when the "MILITARY comes through" and demanded to speak to ICE leadership at the scene. No arrests were reported, and online users lamented that Bass cared more for illegal aliens than Los Angeles fire victims. On Tuesday afternoon, there was no visible military presence outside the federal complex downtown that had been the center of early protests and where National Guard troops first stood guard before the Marines were assigned to protect federal buildings, according to the Associated Press. Hundreds of soldiers have been accompanying agents on immigration operations.Fox News' James Levinson and the Associated Press contributed to this report.

He added that Griffin should leave WNBA players alone and stick to his own sport.Griffin didn't immediately respond to O'Neal's post.He wrote several paragraphs on social media, first coming to the defense of Reese after a racist image of her NBA 2K26 appeared. He said there was "no place for racism in the world" and that Reese "should never be called or depicted as a monkey"Griffin added that he was quiet about Reese because of the hate he and his family received over the most recent discourse in May after a contentious moment between the twoWNBA stars."That will never be OK with me. Loyal Jill Biden aide's deposition date comes with no sign if he'll appear
A former top White House advisor to ex-first lady Jill Biden was subpoenaed to appear before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.Anthony Bernal, former assistant to the president and senior advisor to the first lady, was compelled for a July 16 closed-door deposition after missing a previously agreed-upon interview date late last month.House Oversight Committee Chair James Comers subpoena letter to Bernal read: "The Committee seeks information about your assessment of and relationship with former President Biden to explore whether the time has come for Congress to revisit potential legislation to address the oversight of presidents fitness to serve pursuant to its authority under Section 4 of the Twenty-Fifth Amendment or to propose changes to the Twenty-Fifth Amendment itself."COMER DISMISSES BIDEN DOCTOR'S BID FOR PAUSE IN COVER-UP PROBE: 'THROWING OUT EVERY EXCUSE'While the deposition is moving forward Wednesday morning, it's not guaranteed Bernal will show up until he's seen in the corridors of the House office building where the meeting is taking place.Comer, R-Ky., is investigating allegations thatBiden's former top White House aidescovered up signs of his mental and physical decline while in office, and whether any executive actions were commissioned via autopen without the president's full knowledge. Biden allies have pushed back against those claims."Original Sin," a book by CNN anchor Jake Tapper and Axios political correspondent Alex Thompson, positions Bernal as a fiercely protective aide who was dubbed the leader of the "loyalty police" by other former Biden staffers. His LinkedIn page lists him as currently working as Jill Bidens chief of staff in the Transition Office of Former President Joe Biden.Bernal was originally slated to appear last month for a voluntary transcribed interview, but he and his lawyers backtracked after the Trump administration announced it was waiving executive privilege rights for him and several other former White House staffers. If he appears, he will be the fourth ex-Biden aide to sit down with House GOP investigators.FAR-LEFT FIREBRAND SAYS SHE 'NEVER HAD A CONCERN' ABOUT BIDEN'S MENTAL STATE AS HOUSE PROBE HEATS UPLongtime Biden advisor Ashley Williams appeared for a nearly six-hour transcribed interview on Friday, following a brief sit-down by former Biden physician Kevin OConnor.OConnor, like Bernal, appeared under subpoena. His closed-door deposition lasted less than 30 minutes, with the doctor invoking the Fifth Amendment on all questions outside his name.O'Connor's lawyers said he did so out of concern for doctor-patient confidentiality. Comer, however, accused him of covering for the octogenarian former president.

Former Biden adviser admits failure to address border crisis reality led to Trump's re-election
Former Biden border adviser Blas Nuez-Neto wrote in the New York Times on Tuesday that the administrations failure to address and act on the border crisis contributed to President Donald Trumps re-election."The first step in responding to a crisis is to acknowledge it exists," Nuez-Neto wrote."The surge in illegal crossings at our southern border during the first three years of Joe Bidens presidency was, by any reasonable definition, a crisis. The failure to acknowledge this reality and take timely action to try to resolve it cost Democrats a great deal of trust with American voters and contributed to President Trumps return to the White House."Nuez-Neto was the assistant secretary for border and immigration policy at the Department of Homeland Security under former President Joe Biden. He described experiencing "a tidal wave" of illegal entries at the border in 2021.The Biden aide said economic devastation from the Coronavirus pandemic was a factor but also acknowledged "a lack of resources" at the border and "the inability to deport people to countries like Venezuela" as issues that contributed to the numbers.JOHN KERRY ADMITS TRUMP WAS 'RIGHT' ON BORDER, SAYS HE TOLD BIDEN THAT DEMOCRATS MISSED ON IMMIGRATION"Deliberations that delayed important policy choices didnt help, either," he wrote.Nuez-Neto added, "By the time Mr. Biden and congressional Democrats began working in earnest with Republicans in late 2023 and 2024 on revamping our immigration laws, the politics were hopelessly interwoven with the presidential election, which is why a tough, bipartisan bill ultimately foundered."Though he conceded that the border was more secure now than under Biden, Nuez-Neto warned that this was done at the cost of "eroding our constitutional order."Instead, he argued, Congress needed to step in and provide a system that can be both generous to legal applicants and strict with people living in the United States illegally."In other words, we need a system that recognizes that we are not only a nation of immigrants but also a nation of laws and that we need to respect both. Until that happens, the next border crisis will always be just around the corner," he concluded.CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTUREDespite Nuez-Netos criticism of the Biden administrations border policies, his op-ed drew intense backlash online. Nuez-Netos former department, Homeland Security, took to X to mock him."I was Humpty Dumpty.
