Bam Margera says skateboarding helped with sobriety: 'I need it in my life, or else I'll die'
Not too long ago, Bam Margera was at his wits' end.The former professional skateboarder and MTV star of "Jackass" and "Viva La Bam" had struggled with drugs and alcohol throughout practically his entire adult life. He's been to rehab 13 times, each for 90 days. That's equal to over three years of drug treatment. But now, he's coming up on two years sober, and he credits his first love of skateboarding for it.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"I realized I dont need to be on any medication skateboarding is my medication. As long as I do a trick a day, it keeps my sanity sane," Margera told Fox News Digital in a recent interview. Most fans grew up watching Margera doing wild stunts on TV and in the movies. Off-screen, he'd take it to a different level. But after his co-star and best friend Ryan Dunn died in a car wreck in 2011, Margera went "down a real dark path," and his struggles reached the point where he was taken off "Jackass Forever" back in 2022. He still does not talk to the majority of his former castmates."In 2013, when the doctors declared my legs as dry-rotted rubber bands from alcohol abuse, I kind of lost hope about skating," Margera said. "But my wife, shes a stretch coach. I stretch an hour a day, and my 45-year-old legs feel like their 22 again. So, my passion back to skating is completely there, and I do it every day."I actually woke up eight days on life support with a tube down my throat with COVID and pneumonia, and I found out I went into five seizures 20 minutes apiece just from staying up, not eating right, drinking too much, and that was when I decided I needed to change and I needed to change now," Margera added. "When I detoxed and lost a little bit of weight, I got back on the skateboard again, and my muscle memory eventually came back. It was not easy, but now that its back and Im doing it every day, a lot of tricks are coming way easier."PGA STAR'S DAD SKIPPING 'UNWATCHABLE' RYDER CUP AT BETHPAGE BLACK: 'AFRAID OF WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN'Margera admitted that even the simplest of tricks for a pro became difficult when he was relearning his expertise, he fell and broke his wrist "for the 15th time and hyperextended my elbow with the bone sticking out.""That lack of confidence after that, I was scared to do anything But when you start skating again every day, you start learning how to fall again, and your chances of getting injured become more slim to none."Now, Margera, 44, is a playable character in a reboot of "Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 + 4." Margera had actually missed the deadline to be in the game. But, after hanging out with Hawk one day, Hawk used his powers to get him in."Me saying hi to him, if I would have not called him, this would not have happened. So its a real blessing everything happened the way that it did," Margera said."Its a real honor to be in the game. It really puts skaters on the map for people that arent diehard skaters as there is. Theres such a handful of skaters that are really killing it these days, but if I said their names, you wouldnt know them unless you were a diehard skateboard fan. To be in the game, it can get the attention of the 80-year-old grandma, Oh! I know that Bam Margera! Hes in that Tony Hawk skateboard game! It gives you a whole bunch of street cred that if youre in that game, you must be a real established skateboarder."For Margera, his new way of life is simple: Skateboard, or else."I need skateboarding in my life, or else Ill die. I need skateboarding in my life in order to fulfill it," he said. "If you dont have any passion for anything, then you lose purpose. When you lose purpose, you get bored, and then boredom leads to drugs and alcohol. I cant get bored. Im completely occupied with learning my skate tricks back."Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X, and subscribe tothe Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Santa Monica business owner offering one-way flights to get homeless out of California
A Santa Monica business owner has launched a grassroots initiative to address California's growing homelessness crisis, stepping in where he says city and Los Angeles County leaders have failed to act.Roughly three weeks ago, Santa Monica property owner John Alle and fellow business owners in the southern California city hatched a plan to help reduce homelessness on their streets, through a targeted and voluntary family reunification program. Their goal is to assist individuals who have been homeless for less than a year and are actively seeking help, by reuniting them with loved ones in their hometowns where they're more likely to get the support they need to succeed.Through the nonprofit Alle co-founded, the Santa Monica Coalition, a small group of local donors personally fund travel expenses for these trips. They've also implemented an AI-powered hotline to efficiently handle the flood of incoming requests.Since the program's launch in June, the hotline has received over 500 calls, and they've completed the reunification process for eight people so far, according to Alle.NEWSOM UNVEILS AGGRESSIVE PLAN TO CLEAR HOMELESS ENCAMPMENTS ACROSS CALIFORNIA: 'NO MORE EXCUSES'"I think it's a scalable solution that'll work over and over because there's motivation," Alle told Fox News Digital. "And this is valuable as an asset when cities and counties are desperate for fixes right now and spending way too much with no results and missing funds."Alle shared videos of two people boarding trains and planes to their homes in Pennsylvania and Wyoming this week through the program. They talked about feeling unsafe living in California and wanting to reunite with their families.Alle hopes to eventually transition the project to a nonprofit organization that is equally committed to the reunification model. He believes the simple strategy is going to have a bigger impact than "housing and other expensive, frankly, go-nowhere methods that are being tried and have been tried over the last three or four years" by the local government."The homelessness and the crime is increasing at the same rate as the increase in funding. And that's not a good sign. It shows it's not working," he said.Alle said the program isn't intended to help everyone, but it is one step in the right direction.HERE'S WHY HELPING THE HOMELESS REBUILD THEIR LIVES IS KEY TO AMERICAS FUTURE SUCCESS"There's different levels of homelessness," Alle said. "There's mentally ill people who need drastic help, institutional help, that we're not equipped to help. And there are drug addicts, alcohol addicted, that need help with special programs. Our program is focused on those that have been here for less than a year, and they're motivated. They're contacting us."Participation in the program is open to anyone who meets a few key criteria. Candidates must have identification to travel through the airport, and a family member or friend must commit to receiving them upon arrival. Alle's team personally verifies these arrangements with family beforehand to confirm their willingness and capability. Each participant must also sign a waiver agreeing that they are going along with the program of their own accord.Alle says the county and city's solutions aren't helping the situation and have made the tourist destination a hotbed for violent crime and homelessness.LA MAYOR JOINS CONTROVERSIAL LAWSUIT TO BLOCK TRUMPS IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT MEASURES"Our city has been taken over by the mentally ill and addicted who desperately need help," the Santa Monica Coalition says in a flyer on their website telling people to stay away from the city. "Sadly, many of them refuse shelter and services. The City Manager and City Leaders hide behind policy adoptions and limitations as their reasoning for not taking action towards resolving the human catastrophe at hand. Meanwhile, their lack of political will makes for everyone's loss."Santa Monica residents and business owners who make up the nonprofit are calling on city leaders to take action on the city's rising crime and homelessness."We're really trying to push our city leaders, who have been ignoring the depravity on the streets, the crime, the theft, the homelessness that's not being addressed," Alle told Fox News Digital. The coalition filed a lawsuit against the LA County Public Health Department, its director, Barbara Ferrer and the Venice Family Clinic, last year over the county's needle distribution program to the homeless. Clean needles are handed out as part of the county's "harm reduction" effort, which also includes the overdose-reversal drug Naloxone.DEM MAYOR FED UP WITH HOMELESS CRISIS PROPOSES JAILING VAGRANTS WHO REFUSE HOUSINGThe LA County Health Department released a statement in 2024 defending the harm-reduction efforts, saying they are "well demonstrated to reduce overdose deaths, reduce the public use of injectable drugs, reduce transmission of communicable diseases (e.g., HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis), increase access to substance use services, reduce the use of emergency medical services, and increase public safety."Gangs are also a huge problem for business owners and residents' safety, Alle says. He shared photos of his properties vandalized by MS-13 and other cartels as recently as last week. But he says city officials have turned a blind eye to the problems plaguing Santa Monica."It's gotten out of control," Alle described the situation. "We've got cartels MS-13 and the 18th street gang, very active in that area. We have crews every day painting up their tagging because if we don't paint it over the next day, it becomes a competition and a source of friction among the other cartels over who controls the area."The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health told Fox News Digital that a proposed judgment had been entered in favor of LA County and Ferrer last month in LA County Superior Court regarding the needle distribution lawsuit filed by Alle and the Santa Monica Coalition against county officials. The Santa Monica City Council told Fox News Digital it already has a reunification program that it started in 2006."The city of Santa Monica has a longstanding reunification program administered by our Homelessness Prevention & Intervention (HPI) Division called Project Homecoming. Project Homecoming was launched in 2006 and has reunited over 3200 individuals who are experiencing homelessness within the city of Santa Monica with family and friends living elsewhere. Individuals are identified by our trusted and professional partners who perform outreach within the city of Santa Monica on a daily basis," a spokesperson for the city said.

Will Zohran Mamdani protect all New Yorkers? He owes the Jewish community an answer
As New York City faces an unprecedented surge in antisemitism, with Jewish residents experiencing thehighest levels of hatred and violencein decades, every elected official and candidate should be held accountable for their commitment to protecting all constituents. This includes Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, whose past statements and associations raise serious questions about his dedication to Jewish safety and security. The data paints a stark picture. New York State experienceda record 1,437 antisemitic incidents in 2024an 18 percent increase from 2023, and the highest number of any state in the nation. Even more alarming, antisemitic assaults in New York jumped by 52 percent in 2024,accounting for nearly one-third of all antisemitic assaults nationwide. This isn't just about statisticsit's about real people living in fear. This is a 12-year-old being bullied at a middle school in Queens, or an Orthodox couple harassed in broad daylight in Brooklyn. Its a group of Jewish college studentstrapped in a library with a mob screaming at them, banging on the windows. Jewish New Yorkers are being harassed and targeted at synagogues, schools, universities, businesses and on the street.STOPANTISEMITISM FOUNDER WARNS MAMDANI AS NYC MAYOR WOULD BE 'CATASTROPHIC' FOR RESIDENTSAgainst this backdrop, Mamdani's past embrace of inflammatory rhetoric and support for radical anti-Israel groups make understanding his commitment to Jewish safety even more important. As a student,he founded the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter at Bowdoin College. It is one of the most radical groups on college campuses in America. As an assemblymember, he sponsored the "Not on our Dime Act" that attempted to stop New York registered charitable organizations from sending donations to Israel to "fund war crimes." This included needs like ambulance services, emergency response, food security, and more. Most recently, Mamdanis failure to condemn chants of "Globalize the Intifada"a slogan that is nothing less than a call for indiscriminate violence against Israel, Jews and Jewish communities worldwideraises fundamental questions about his commitment to Jewish safety. He was given multiple opportunities over the last several weeks, including with Meet the Press host Kristen Welker, to clarify his stance. Mamdani did not swing and miss; he refused to even take the bat off his shoulder and try to hit the pitch. But the concerns now have evolved far beyond simply calling out a clear statement of violence. Any candidate for mayor needs to explain to the Jewish community and to all New York City residents what specific steps they will take to curb surging antisemitism and hate and what measures they will not take so as not to endanger the embattled Jewish community in a moment when it is already reeling. We should be asking some key questions and demanding public answers from the candidates rather than private reassurances. For example:To be clear, these aren't unreasonable requests they're basic expectations for any public servant but relevant based on past associations, positions and statements.CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONAt the same time, the onus is not just on Mamdani. There are many candidates in this mayoral race. We expect all of them to support the Jewish community.Antisemitism is not an abstraction it is a clear and present danger to Jewish Americans. In the past few months, we haveseen it manifestin very threatening waysin Harrisburg, Pennsylvania,Washington, D.C.,andBoulder, Colorado. In light of these very real acts of violence, we need a mayor who demonstrates in deed, not just in word, how they will prevent the bedlam from spreading to New York and how they will protect Jewish New Yorkers, considering their singular set of challenges and do so with the same degree of care and respect shown to all other New Yorkers. The Jewish communityand all New Yorkers who value tolerance and safetydeserve clear, unambiguous answers.*As a 501(c)(3) organization, ADL takes no position in support of or in opposition to any candidate for elected office.

Retailers caught red-handed using Trump's tariffs as cover for price gouging
In recent weeks, headlines have been filled with warnings from major retailers about impending price hikes due to tariffs reinstated by President Donald Trump. Big Box stores like Walmart and Target have been quick to suggest that tariffs on imported goods, particularly from China, have left them with no choice but to raise prices for American families.Lets be clear, these decisions are more about raising profit margins and going against Trumps agenda to bring costs down for Americans than responding to any actual economic pressure.Tariffs are a strategic tool. The Trump administration has always been clear about that. Tariffs are designed to level the playing field, incentivize domestic production, counter predatory trade practices especially from the Chinese Communist Party and put America First. Tariffs protect long-term American interests, especially in vital industries like technology and manufacturing.TARIFF CASE PITS CATO INSTITUTE AGAINST TRUMP OVER UNLIMITED EXECUTIVE POWER UNDER EMERGENCY LAWYet, many corporations are using tariffs as a convenient scapegoat to raise prices across the board, even on products not impacted by new trade policies. A recent Federal Reserve report found that retailers have increased prices on non-tariffed items, falsely implying that across-the-board cost pressures are tariff-driven. This is not only wrong, its exploitative. We all know many of these large retailers are sitting on comfortable, even expanded, profit margins because of the price hikes from COVID-19 that never came down. But its not enough for them. They want to fleece the American consumer and blame it on President Trumps America First agenda.Former Walmart CEO Bill Simon acknowledged Walmart's capability to eat the costs of these tariffs rather than throwing the burden to the consumer: "[T]his quarter they grew their gross profit margin in the US business 25 basis points All that product that has the tariffs on it, they reported last quarter actually went down in price. That sort of gives them room in my view to manage any tariff impact that they would have."WHITE HOUSE DENIES TARIFFS PROMPTING INFLATION AS TRUMP PUSHES FOR TRADE DEALSDespite Simons admission, Walmart has already issued price hikes under the guise of tariff costs. What were witnessing is a pattern of deflection. Rather than own up to their pricing strategies, many businesses are choosing to shift the blame onto the Trump administrations economic policy. This tactic is not only dishonest, its harmful to public discourse. It creates the false impression that Trump administration policies are causing this, when in reality, many of these pricing decisions are being driven by corporate boards more concerned with shareholder satisfaction than consumer welfare.Lets be honest: these companies are not victims of President Trumps trade policy. They are powerful corporations who get to thrive in a free-market economy that the U.S. provides for them. But theyre exploiting it. If they wanted to protect their customers from modest cost increases, they could. Instead, theyre choosing to use tariffs, often on a small subset of goods, as an excuse to raise prices on a much larger range of products.TRUMP THREATENS 35% TARIFF ON CANADIAN GOODS OVER DANGEROUS CROSS-BORDER FENTANYL DISPUTEThe other fact the retailers consistently ignore is their role in why we need the tariffs to begin with. Major retailers have profited from the shift to outsourcing to China in recent decades. They should now bear the burden of the environment they helped create, and Americans agree.CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONThe Protecting America Initiative, a conservative organization I work with that focuses on combating the threat of the CCP, recently polled general election voters and found that a majority of Americans are concerned that our nations largest retailers are using tariffs as an excuse to hike prices.Fifty-two percent of Americans also agree with Trump when he says retailers should bear the burden of any cost increases associated with the tariffs. Our data also shows that consumers want both government officials at the federal and state levels to implement accountability measures to stop retailers from artificially hiking prices.BRAZIL HITS BACK AT TRUMPS 50% TARIFF AS HE DECRIES WITCH HUNT ON BOLSONARO FOR ALLEGED COUP ATTEMPTThe Trump administration is working hard to get costs down for American consumers and undo the economic mess that the autopen in Bidens White House left us with. By turning tariffs into a political talking point, some corporations are playing directly into the hands of our enemies, like China, which doesnt mind if American companies use tariffs as a scapegoat because it distracts from their unfair trade practices and puts pressure on the U.S. to back down. The Trump administration has never hidden the rationale for its tariff strategy. It's about America FIRST, national strength and economic independence. This is not a radical position, its as President Trump says common sense. And its supported by millions of Americans who understand that supporting "Made in America" manufacturing is vital for the future of our country.Retailers should stop hiding behind tariffs and start being honest with consumers. If you're raising prices, say so. But dont pretend youre being forced to act by government policy when the numbers say otherwise. Support a made-in-America future instead of working against it.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM CHAD WOLF

Chris Rufo lays out reforms to Trump administration on how to 'save' higher education
Chris Rufo, senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, laid out a series of reforms in a letter on Monday that he believes will help "save" higher education in the country as well as taxpayers' hard-earned dollars.Rufo published his reforms in the Free Press, in which he calls for PresidentDonald Trump to create a new contract with universities. In the new contract, universities should be part of each payment, loan, grant, eligibility, and accreditation. Failure to comply could mean the termination of all public assistance programs, Rufo suggested. The letter states universities must "advance truth over ideology, with rigorous standards of academic conduct, controls for academic fraud, and merit-based decision-making throughout the enterprise."WASHINGTON POST EDITORIAL ADMITS COLLEGES MUST TAKE 'STRENUOUS ACTION' TO RESTORE FREE EXCHANGE OF IDEASSigned by over 40 people, including educators, religious leaders, academics and authors, the letter asks universities to stop taking part in social and political activism and "adhere to the principle of color-blind equality, by abolishingDEI bureaucracies, disbanding racially segregated programs, and terminating race-based discrimination in admissions, hiring, promotions, and contracting."It calls for a return to the concept offreedom of speech, the protection of civil discourse and "swift and significant penalties" for anyone who disrupts speakers, vandalizes property, occupies buildings, calls for violence, or prevents the university from carrying outits operations.TRUMP'S CRACKDOWN ON HARVARD, 'WOKE' COLLEGES WILL TAKE MORE THAN 100 DAYS TO LEAVE LASTING REFORM: PROFESSORThe list of reforms also includes a request that universities are transparent about their operations and, at the end of each year, disclose the full data on race, admissions, and class rank, as well as employment and financial returns by major, campus attitudes on civil discourse, ideology, and free speech. The call to action directed at the Trump administration comes just over a month afterthe House Judiciary Committees Subcommittee on the Administrative State, Regulatory Reform, and Antitrust held a hearing on June 4 entitled, "The Elite Universities Cartel: A History of Anticompetitive Collusion Inflating the Cost of Higher Education."It also comes as the Manhattan Institutereleased a poll on Sunday that found that only15% of registered voters say they have a lot of trust inprivate Ivy League colleges and universities.Among Americas public colleges and universities, just one in five or 20% of registered voters say they have a "great deal" of trust in these institutions, according to the Manhattan Institute poll.

No signal? No problem. This app lets you chat anyway
Few things frustrate internet users more than losing connection, being watched online or dealing with censorship. If you've ever had spotty service or worried about who might be reading your messages, you're not alone. Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter (now X), is developing a new instant messaging app called Bitchat that lets you communicate without needing an internet connection.Bitchat uses a decentralized mesh network to link people directly. This setup removes the need for central servers and makes it possible to send secure messages even when you're offline. It's a fresh take on messaging privacy, and here's how it works.Sign up for my FREE CyberGuy ReportGet my best tech tips, urgent security alerts, and exclusive deals delivered straight to your inbox. Plus, youll get instant access to my Ultimate Scam Survival Guide - free when you join myCYBERGUY.COM/NEWSLETTER.META AIS NEW CHATBOT RAISES PRIVACY ALARMSBitchat works by using Bluetooth to send messages to nearby devices. It's designed like old-school chat rooms, where people can message each other directly or go into topic-based chat rooms with private conversations that are intended to be encrypted. Messages can travel up to 984 feet in ideal conditions when messaging directly, or hop device-to-device through other Bitchat-enabled phones to reach their destination in less connected zones.WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?In a nutshell, Bitchat provides internet- and server-free communication, messages that are intended to disappear by default, no requirement for user IDs (email or phone number), and password-protected chat rooms.Furthermore, it doesn't collect personal data, and the technology it's built on is intended to work across different devices and platforms, although it's currently only available on iOS via TestFlight. Bitchat is a strong step toward privacy-first messaging, but users are cautioned not to rely on it for sensitive communications at this early stage.Bitchat tackles several pressing challenges of the digital age. For instance, those with limited access to the internet will find it useful during network outages or in areas with poor connectivity. People will also be able to use it in regions with a lot of data restrictions due to government sanctions. Furthermore, it provides true digital autonomy since there's no centralized service storing your communications.GET FOX BUSINESS ON THE GO BY CLICKING HEREWhat Bitchat is doing is not entirely new. Apps like FireChat and Bridgefy explored similar offline messaging approaches, and while they gained brief popularity during protests and emergencies, they struggled with security flaws and scalability. However, it's Bitchat's renewed urgency at a time when online freedom is increasingly under threat that might propel it above those that came before.Bitchat is currently in early testing via Apple's TestFlight program. Right now, it's in the experimental phase. However, Dorsey has hinted that he will add more features like Wi-Fi Direct to boost its speed and range. Also, with the technology behind Bitchat being open and decentralized, we could see it embedded into other platforms, meaning more and more people might be using it in the near future.Bitchat could spark a new era of communication. The app works offline and gives you control over your conversations. You don't have to rely on centralized systems. Bitchat lets you send messages without anyone snooping or profiting from your data. As more people use it, Bitchat could serve as a lifeline during crises. It may help those living under digital restrictions. The app could also challenge companies that ignore privacy. As digital surveillance grows, this app might become more than just a trend. It could be exactly what we need.In what scenarios do you see apps like Bitchat being useful to you? Charlie Kirk names JD Vance as guiding light for young conservatives, but says GOP must deliver on promises
Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk points to Vice President JD Vance as the conservative candidate to beat among young voters in the 2028 presidential election, should he run.During an interview at last weekend's Turning Point Student Action Summit in Tampa, Florida, Kirk said he believes Vance will be the candidate that young Americans look up to as the future leader of the conservative movement once President Donald Trump leaves office."I think JD Vance fits that mold really well," the political activist said when asked by Fox News Digital who the guiding light for young conservative voters in 2028 will be.I'M A YOUNG DEMOCRAT AND I'VE GOT TO ADMIT MY PARTY IS LOSING 2025 WHILE LOOKING AT 2028Kirk, whose mission with TPUSA is to educate and engage young voters and students on conservative principles, named several qualities which allow the vice president to connect with younger people."He can operate seamlessly in a podcast environment," he said, remarking that Vance has a "wonderful family."Kirk also mentioned the 40-year-old Vance, the third-youngest VP in the nation's history, relates to younger Americans because of his age, while acknowledging Vance hasn't committed to a presidential bid."He's the youngest vice president in quite some time, one of the youngest in American history," he said.CHARLIE KIRK WARNS MAMDANI EFFECT METASTASIZING IN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY WITH GRIEVANCE-BASED POLITICSBeyond Vance, Kirk stressed that any future leader of the conservative movement needs to address the top concerns of young people in America today, namely the high cost of living."Butoutside ofthe candidate, weneed toactually beable todeliver andgo tothe American peopleand goto the youngervoters andsay, Here'show yourlife was,and nowit's easierfor youto owna home. You don'thave torent forthe restof yourlife.
