SCOTUS denies Florida AG request to enforce controversial immigration law
The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected Florida's emergency bid to let it enforce a controversial immigration law that would ban illegal immigrants from entering the state leaving in place a lower court's pause on immediately enforcing the measure.Justices on the 6-3 conservative majority Supreme Courtdid not explain their decision, and there were no noted dissents. At issue was Florida's Senate Bill 4C, which would make it a crime for undocumented migrants to enter the state if they had been previously deported or previously denied entry into the U.S., regardless of their history, and even if they had since gained lawful status in the country.Re-entering the state after being deported would be considered a felony under S.B. 4C, and individuals suspected of violating the law would be jailed, without bond, until their cases could be heard in court.Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier asked the high court late last month to intervene and block a preliminary injunction handed down in April by U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams, after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit declined to take up the case.Uthmeier argued in his appeal that, barring intervention from the high court, Florida and its citizens will "remain disabled from combatting the serious harms of illegal immigration for years as this litigation proceeds through the lower courts."Uthmeier was ultimately joined by 17 states n backing the state's position to the Supreme Court. The Justice Department, for its part, also filed a 33-page brief of its own supporting Florida's enforcement of the law.Lawyers for the Trump administration said Monday that S.B. 4C "complements existing federal immigration law by punishing those within, or that come within, Floridas regulatory reach who previously entered or reentered the country in violation of U.S. immigration law.""Floridas law is in harmony, not conflict, with federal law."This is a breaking news story. Dem rep calls out NYC's ongoing failure to tackle Bronx 'open air drug market' crisis
Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y., on Wednesday sounded the alarm over an "open air drug market" in a Bronx business district where addicts and prostitutes are often seen, saying New York City has become a "bystander" to the lawlessness. For at least the past year, Torres has been trying to raise awareness of drug use and drug trafficking at The Hub in the South Bronx."Despite my repeated pleas and multiple announcements of multi-agency operationsoften launched with great fanfarethe City is no closer to solving the public health and safety crisis that has taken hold of the South Bronx's Hub," Torres wrote in a Wednesday letter to Mayor Eric Adams.AOC, PROGRESSIVES RIPPED FOR IGNORING 'RED LIGHT' DISTRICT AS PROSTITUTION, FILTHY STREETS RETURN"The City must demonstrate a renewed whole-of-government commitment to reclaiming the Hub from the grip of drug trafficking and return it where it rightfully belongs: to the people of the Bronx," he added. The Hub, home to Roberto Clemente Plaza, comprises more than 300 storefronts, 50 commercial properties and attracts more than 3.3 million people annually.Locals have been subjected to watching addicts inject opioids in full public view, including in front of children, Torres said. The environment has created a "climate of lawlessness and disorder" in the area, he said.PASTOR COREY BROOKS: I'M BUILDING HOPE ON CHICAGO'S NOTORIOUS SOUTH SIDE"The Department of Transportation has effectively lost control of Roberto Clemente Plaza, which has become a nightmare for quality of life, public health and public safety delivering no benefit to residents," Torres said.Fox News Digital has reached out to the mayor's office."The Adams administration agrees that the decades-long issues plaguing The Hub in the Bronx are unacceptable, which is why we brought our Community Link model to the neighborhood a multi-agency operation of surged resources to address substance abuse, mental health, homeless outreach, sanitation, and other quality-of-life issues that prevent this part of the South Bronx from reaching its full potential," an Adams spokesperson told the New York Post. The business district has been plagued with quality of life issues for some time. In 2021, business leaders sent then-Mayor Bill de Blasio a letter demanding he do more to address rising crime in the area.

Rams' Davante Adams says LeBron James would have been one of the best wide receivers in NFL history
Could LeBron James have thrived in the NFL if he had chosen to take his talents to the gridiron instead of the hardwood? Los Angeles Rams star wide receiver Davante Adams certainly thinks so."He would have been one of the best receivers, tight ends of all time. No question," Adams said during a recent appearance on the "Dan Patrick Show."Adams cited James speed as one of the reasons he would succeed in the NFL.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"He can fly too. Thats the thing. Hes one of the fastest NBA players probably of all time," Adams said."Ive never seen somebody cover space on a basketball court. Maybe John Wall? Derrick Rose? Somebody like that, but hes up there with all of them."At six-foot-nine and 250 pounds, James certainly has the size to play tight end or wide receiver in the NFL, as he is bigger than some of the best to ever do it.FORMER NFL STAR ASANTE SAMUEL SR UNLEASHES ON DOLPHINS, QUESTIONS TEAM'S LEADERSHIP AFTER JALEN RAMSEY TRADEJames previously said his comparison on the football field would have been a combination of Randy Moss and Rob Gronkowski."Probably like a mix between, you know, (Rob Gronkowski) or Randy Moss a little bit, but he's a lot smaller than me. He runs a lot faster, but he's a lot smaller than me," James said during an appearance on "New Heights" in March. The 21-time NBA All-Star compared his build to Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson, as James said they have "that same stature as far as build."James also brought up Tony Gonzalez, who played college basketball before eventually turning into a tight end and had an illustrious 17-year career in the NFL that ended in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.BENGALS' JOE BURROW OPENS UP ABOUT HOME BURGLARY, REVEALS HE PUT MAJOR PURCHASE ON HOLD AFTER ORDEAL"Maybe Tony Gonzalez, with his size, and obviously he played basketball as well. I used to love his celebration when he used to dunk on the goal post too," James said.Gonzalez was six-foot-five and 243 pounds, while Johnson was listed as six-foot-five and 237 pounds during his playing career. The Lakers star said he only "seriously" considered joining the NFL in 2011, during the NBA lockout."It was 2011 when we had the NBA lockout and, you know, I didn't know when we were going to make the deal with the owners and get our league back going. I actually thought about it a little bit back then. I was still young enough, you know, to get out there with y'all, but that's the only time I've actually seriously considered it," James said.Adams would certainly know what makes a good receiver, as the six-time Pro Bowler has been a top wide receiver in the NFL in his 11-year career. In 164 career games, Adams has 957 career catches for 11,844 yards and 103 touchdowns. Last season, across 14 games with the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders, Adams had 67 catches for 854 yards and seven touchdowns.Adams signed with the Rams this offseason and gives the team one of the leagues best wide receiver duos alongside star Puka Nacua.Follow Fox News Digitals sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
