Newly released video shows the moment Las Vegas, Nevada, police opened fire on an armed suspect as he ran out of a health club after killing one person and injuring multiple others.The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) said 34-year-old Daniel Ortega was struck by gunfire from officers on Friday afternoon and later died.Had he survived, he would have faced one count of murder with a deadly weapon, three counts each of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon on a protected person, and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon, according to LVMPD Assistant Sheriff Jamie Prosser.She said the incident was the third officer-involved shooting this year, adding that at this time in 2024, there were three officer-involved shootings as well, and all three were fatal.Fridays shooting took place at about 1:30 p.m. on Friday, when Ortega walked into the Las Vegas Athletic Club, armed with a rifle.NEW MEXICO MASS SHOOTING SUSPECTS ARRESTED, VICTIMS IDENTIFIEDProsser said Ortega walked past several individuals who were leaving the gym when he approached an employee at the front desk. One person was arrested after a Hawaiian Airlines flight was diverted off the tarmac while taxiing prior to departure from the San Diego International Airport over a possible bomb threat onboard.The Port of San Diego Harbor Police confirmed on X that Hawaiian Airlines Flight 15 was diverted after dispatch received a call from the captain of the plane with reports of a possible bomb threat aboard the aircraft."The flight was set to depart from the San Diego International Airport to Honolulu, Hawaii, and had just detached from the jetway when a flight attendant informed the flights captain that a passenger reported a possible bomb onboard," the post said."An arrest has been made," Port of San Diego spokesperson Brianne Mundy Page said in an email, according to The Associated Press. Louisiana law enforcement officials released new booking pictures of four captured inmates who escaped a jail in New Orleans as they face new charges.The Louisiana Department of Public Safety released new booking pictures for Kendell Myles, Robert Moody, Gary Price and Dkenan Dennis, all of whom are accused of escaping the Orleans Justice Center on Friday. Six inmates are still at large.Price, who was arrested Monday, faces new charges of simple escape, possession of a controlled substance and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling. He was initially arrested for attempted first-degree murder, domestic abuse and aggravated assault.Myles was also charged with simple escape after he was found hiding under a car in a hotel parking lot on May 16. Maine state representative Laurel Libby is allowed to vote for her constituents after three months of being censured, thanks to a 7-2 Supreme Court decision Tuesday.After the state's Democrat majority voted to strip Libby of her voting rights in February for making a social media post that called out a biologically trans athlete who won a girls' pole vault competition, she fought a legal battle to overturn it all the way up to the Supreme Court. "This sends a message that they can not continue to operate outside of the constitution and ignore the will of Maine people any longer."A survey by the American Parents Coalition found that out of about 600 registered Maine voters, 63% said that school sports participation should be based on biological sex, and 66% agreed it is "only fair to restrict womens sports to biological women."Many Maine residents have even entire school districts have stood up against Mills' policies alongside Libby. Maine's school districts RSU No. 24 and MSAD No. 70 have each passed their own localized resolutions to keep girls' spots for female students only. There have also been three large-scale protests against the current policies in the state's capital city Augusta since February.MAINE TEENS BATTLING STATE DEMOCRATS ON GIRLS' SPORTS BILL AFTER ENDURING TRANS ATHLETE CHAOS IN HIGH SCHOOLAnd Libby has had the support of the federal government along the way.Just days before the decision, the DOJ filed an amicus brief on Libby's behalf to the Supreme Court, and Bondi spoke out in support of the embattled lawmaker to Fox News Digital."I am so thankful for Attorney General Pam Bondi's response," Libby said.However, Libby's legal battle is not done yet.The Supreme Court decision has granted her back her right to vote on the state house floor, but she still does not have the right to speak. Libby's case will now go back to the First Circuit Court of Appeals for oral arguments on June 5, as she will look to regain her voting rights.Additionally, Libby was not able to vote on several bills in the state legislature in the last three months during her censure.
