Alex Marquardt's exit from CNN 'obviously' tied to network's costly defamation trial, insiders say
CNN parted ways with its chief national security correspondent, Alex Marquardt, Monday and many of his now-former colleagues say it's "obviously" tied to the network's costly defamation trial earlier this year."Obviously, the court case is a core reason why, that is obvious," one CNN insider told Fox News Digital.Marquardt was at the center of a defamation case brought against him and CNN in January by U.S. Navy veteran Zachary Young. A Florida jury found that CNN defamed Young and ruled that he could seek punitive damages as a result of a November 2021 report by Marquardt. The report branded Young as a shady profiteer who exploited "desperate Afghans" trying to flee Afghanistan during the Biden administration's chaotic military withdrawal from the Taliban-run country, implying Young was operating on a "black market."ALEX MARQUARDT OUT AT CNN AFTER EIGHT YEARS; REPORTER WAS AS THE CENTER OF COSTLY DEFAMATION TRIALThe jury had initially awarded Young $5 million in financial and emotional damages before Young and CNN reached an undisclosed settlement, suggesting the network gave Young significantly more money. The jury foreman later told Fox News Digital they were prepared to make CNN pay "somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 million to $100 million" in punitive damages.CNN DEFAMATION TRIAL: LOSING CASE EXPECTED BUT STILL A BAD BRUISE FOR THE NETWORK, INSIDER SAYS"He has not done anything else that is wrong. So if he was terminated, that has to be a core reason why. It's just the logical thing," the CNN staffer said.Despite the certainty among CNN staff that Marquardt's departure was directly linked to Young's settlement, they remained puzzled by the timing since it came nearly five months after the trial. The first staffer said, "I'm not sure how much strategizing is going into things these days."It seemed like Marquardt was in good standing with CNN even after the trial as he continued making regular on-air appearances, most recently last Tuesday. He even served as a fill-in anchor on Memorial Day."Alex is on our air because he is an experienced, veteran reporter with valuableinsights on the news," a CNN spokesperson told Fox News Digital in late January after the trial. But according to the Status newsletter, Marquardt's dismissal was the result of a "post-settlement ethics compliance review" launched by CNN earlier this year in which he and others involved in the defamatory report were interviewed. Marquardt was informed about the network's decision on Friday, citing "unspecified editorial differences."The bar for proving defamation in court is historically high as many lawsuits are either dismissed or result in a settlement before going to trial. Young's lawsuit against CNN was a rare instance where a jury did find the network liable for defamation, yet a settlement was later reached. Perhaps it was because of the damning evidence Young's legal team gathered during discovery, much of it involving Marquardt himself."[W]e gonna nail this Zachary Young mf---er," Marquardt told a colleague in a 2021 message exchange before finishing the report. That comment was repeatedly referenced by Young's attorneys throughout the trial."I always thought he was a professional. But those internal messages left CNN with no other choice," a second CNN staffer told Fox News Digital.CNN'S ALEX MARQUARDT HESITANT TO ADMIT HE MADE MONEY COVERING WAR ZONES: I DONT GO THERE TO GET PAID'The second CNN staffer insisted, "It's hard in my mind not to make a connection" between Marquardt's abrupt exit and the defamation trial. "He was a chief correspondent. A chief. There was no send off. Nothing like that at all. It all went into the quiet goodnight," the second CNN insider said. "He was a great reporter in the field, really good in war zones. That's what makes it a shame."Marquardt was vague about his sudden exit from CNN, posting on X, "Some personal news: Im leaving CNN after 8 terrific years. Tough to say goodbye but its been an honor to work among the very best in the business.Profound thank you to my comrades on the National Security team & the phenomenal teammates Ive worked with in the US and abroad."CNN declined to comment, citing a policy not to discuss "personnel matters." The network did not respond to additional requests for comment. Marquardt did not respond to requests for comment. In a post-trial interview, Young said he hadn't forgiven Marquardt, calling him out for remaining defiant on the witness stand at the trial."We've given Mr. Marquardt plenty of opportunities during deposition and then again at trial to apologize. And, you know, the answer was no," Young told Fox News Digital. "He still stands behind his work. He's very proud of what he did. His hit piece on me to destroy my life.""He's not my biggest fan," Young added. On the witness stand, Marquardt insisted his report was not a "hit piece" on Young and that he was proud of his work."I wasn't looking to take anyone down. I didn't take anyone down,"Marquardt testified.CNN DEFAMATION TRIAL: PLAINTIFF ACCUSES NETWORK OF FAKING CRITICAL PHONE CALL FOR THEATERCNN issued an on-air apology in March 2022 after Young threatened to take legal action. But throughout the trial, Marquardt and several CNN staffers testified they didnt feel the apology was necessary. CNN senior vice president Adam Levine admitted to the jurors that the apology was merely a legal decision."Alex Marquardt had put in an email, I'm going to nail this Zachary Young.' At that point it seemed as though he had put a target on Mr. Young's back, and he was not going to let up until he reached his goal It was obvious to the entire jury that he was out to get him," jury foreman Katy Svitenko told Fox News Digital in February. That was the moment Svitenko decided it was defamation with malice."The jury pretty much agreed those emails among the CNN employees were pretty bad. And not just one, it was several, at various levels throughout the corporation," she said.Fox News' Brian Flood contributed to this report.

Huckabee condemns efforts to erase Jewish history to the Holy Land as absurd
EXCLUSIVE: U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee stressed the importance of acknowledging the Jewish people's historic connection to the Land of Israel, describing global efforts to deny this link as "absurd.""First of all, archeology is a daily reminder of the connection between this land and the Jewish people going all the way back to 3,500 to 3,800 years, whether its Shilo, whether it's Jerusalem," Huckabee told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview in Jerusalem on Thursday. His comments came as Jews worldwide celebrate Shavuot, the biblical holiday commemorating God's giving of the Torah to Moses and the Israelites at Mount Sinai.BATTLE FOR BIBLICAL ARCHAEOLOGY INTENSIFIES AS ISRAELI RESEARCHERS FACE ACADEMIC BOYCOTTHuckabee pointed to archaeological evidence as strong support for the biblical account. "The excavations at the City of David alone are a validation of the biblical record of what really did happen here. Sometimes people on the far-left love to say 'follow the science, follow the science,' and I would say to them, as it relates to the land and the connections to the Jewish people, follow the science of archaeology."The remarks come amid an ongoing diplomatic war by the Palestinian Authority which was granted non-member observer state status at the United Nations in 2012 to revise historical narratives in international forums where anti-Israel majorities are common. For example, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 2016 registered the Cave of the Patriarchs the burial site of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and their wives Sarah, Rebecca and Leah, located in Hebronunder the name of the "State of Palestine" on its "List of World Heritage in Danger."RARE 2,300-YEAR-OLD GOLD RING DISCOVERED IN JERUSALEM'S CITY OF DAVIDIn a separate move, the U.N. General Assembly passed a non-binding resolution in 2021 referring to the Temple Mount Judaisms holiest site, located in Jerusalem but beyond the 1967 borders solely by its Islamic name, "Haram al-Sharif.""For 20 years, I have been pushing back against an effort from the PA, Hamas, European-funded anti-Israel NGOs, and the U.N. to try and prevent excavations from coming to life," said Doron Spielman, author of the new book "When the Stones Speak: The Remarkable Discovery of the City of David and What Israel's Enemies Don't Want You to Know," a book that shows the historical and indigenous connection to the Holy Land of the Jews."There are thousands of discoveries that prove the connection of the Jewish people to the biblical heartland, but in particular the clay seal impressions of Yehuchalthe son of Shelemiahand Gedaliahthe son of Pashurthat were found at the site believed to be King Davids palace," explained Spielman. "They are directly quoted in the Bible as having attempted to kill the prophet Jeremiah."In 2008, Israeli archaeologist Eilat Mazar revealed the discovery of a clay seal impression, or bulla, bearing the name Gedaliah, son of Pashhur. The artifact was unearthed during a dig in the City of David, located just south of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The bulla was found close to where, in 2005, a similar seal inscribed with the name Yehuchal had been discovered. Both individuals are known from the bible as officials who served under King Zedekiah, the final monarch of the Kingdom of Judah before the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem and the First Temple in 587 B.C.LEADING EVANGELICALS IN PUSH TO HAVE PRESIDENT TRUMP RECOGNIZE ISRAELI SOVEREIGNTY OVER BIBLICAL HEARTLAND"The bullas can be seen, they are on display at the Israel Museum and in traveling exhibitions. They have gone from one side of the world to the other because the Palestinians created a narrative attempting to erase any connection between Jews, and by extension Christians, to the Land of Israel," continued Spielman.Huckabee emphasized that archaeological discoveries continue to affirm the scriptural narrative connecting the Jewish people to the land."Every time some new discovery is unearthed it validates the biblical record, so the proof is pretty strong that that connection is not something that goes back to 1948 or 1917 the Balfour Declaration - it goes all the way back to the time of Abraham. Thats pretty far back," he said. For his part, Spielman voiced concern that the message isnt resonating with the mainstream, particularly among younger generations."On campuses in the U.S., people are chanting 'From the River to the Sea,' and calling the Jews colonizers," he said, in reference to the mantra calling for the "liberation" of "Palestine" through the elimination of Israel."This expression comes from people taught to believe that the Jews have no connection to the Land of Israel, and Im fearful because it leads to violence. When people come to erase your history, they are on their way to trying to erase you as a nation."We have seen it before and if we do not stop the trend, it will happen again," he added.

Oregon girl alleges track meet official ordered her to 'get out of the photo' after protesting trans athlete
Oregon high school senior Alexa Anderson garnered national attention on Saturday when she refused to share the high jump medal podium with a trans athlete at a state track and field championship meet.Viral footage of Anderson and fellow girl athlete Reese Eckard stepping down from the podium also showed an official gesturing for them to step to the side.Anderson alleges the official ordered her and Eckard to get out of the shot of photos if they were not going to stand on the podium.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"We stepped off the podium in protest and, as you can see, the official kind of told us 'hey, go over there, if youre not going to participate, get out of the photos,'" Anderson alleged during an interview on Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle" Monday night."They asked us to move away from the medal stand, so when they took the photos, we weren't even in it at all."Fox News Digital has reached out to the Oregon School Activities Association for comment. The incident comes weeks after high school sports officials in California allegedly ordered athletes to take off "Protect Girls Sports" T-shirts at a postseason meet featuring a trans athlete.Anderson added that Saturday was her first time ever competing against a transgender athlete, but she has opposed trans inclusion in girls' sports prior to that and expressed her belief through social media comments."This is the first public stand that I have taken in this issue, but I have privately supported all the girls that have done with positive messages, commenting on posts, just supporting them and letting them know I'm behind them in any way," Anderson said.Anderson, of Tigard High School, finished in third place in the high jump and Eckard, of Sherwood High School, came in fourth, while the trans athlete, of Ida B. Wells High School, took fifth.DEPT OF EDUCATION LABELS JUNE AS 'TITLE IX MONTH' IN WAKE OF TRANS ATHLETES WINNING GIRLS' COMPETITIONS"It's unfair because biological males and biological females compete at such different levels that letting a biological male into our competition is taking up space and opportunities from all these hardworking women, the girl in ninth who should have came in eighth and had that podium spot taken away from her, as well as many others," Anderson said. Anderson and Eckard's situation was only one of many instances of girls having to share competition and medal podiums with biological males at state meets this past weekend. In California, a nationally-publicized incident involving trans athlete AB Hernandez of Jurupa Valley High School culminated in Hernandez winning two state titles. President Donald Trump warned the state not to let trans athletes compete in the girls' state title meet, and the Department of Justice has now given California a deadline of June 9 to revise its policy or federal funding cuts may occur. In Washington, a trans athlete at East Valley High School won the girls' 400-meter 2A state title on Saturday. In response, multiple girls at Tumwater High School, which was at the center of a controversy involving a girls' basketball player being reprimanded for refusing to face a trans opponent in the winter, protested Monday during school hours with a large banner sign that read, "This is not a walk out (sic). We are not going anywhere."Other girls' postseason track and field meets that saw trans athletes compete this weekend took place in Maine and Minnesota. The America First Policy Institute (AFPI), a nonpartisan research institute, filed a Title IX discrimination complaint against Oregon for its laws that allow biological males to compete in girls' sports on May 27.The complaint was filed to the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights, which has already launched Title IX investigations against high school sports leagues in California, Minnesota, Maine and Massachusetts."Every girl deserves a fair shot on the field, on the podium, and in life," said Jessica Hart Steinmann, AFPIs executive general counsel and vice chair of the Center for Litigation, in a statement."When state institutions knowingly force young women to compete against biological males, theyre violating federal law and sending a devastating message to female athletes across the country."Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X,and subscribe tothe Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

FBI calls for public tips on children hurt in gender-affirming' surgeries
The FBI is urging members of the public to tip them off about any facilities or individuals who "mutilate" children with surgeries "under the guise of gender-affirming care."The federal law enforcement agency shared the message Monday on social media."Help the FBI protect children. As the Attorney General has made clear, we will protect our children and hold accountable those who mutilate them under the guise of gender-affirming care," the posts on X and Facebook read. "Report tips of any hospitals, clinics, or practitioners performing these surgical procedures on children at 1-800-CALL-FBI or tips.fbi.gov."FBI EMAIL INSTRUCTS EMPLOYEES NOT TO PROMOTE PRIDE MONTH ON BUREAU TIME: FOCUSED ONLY ON OUR CORE MISSIONChloe Cole responded to the FBI's post on X by noting, "Im a detransitioner and Ive spoken personally with hundreds of others that have been seriously injured by this practice. We want to see this burnt to the ground."President Donald Trump issued an executive order earlier this year titled "Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation."TRANS ATHLETE AB HERNANDEZ TAKES GIRLS' TRACK AND FIELD STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN CALIFORNIA, DEFYING TRUMPThe order noted, in part, that "it is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called transition of a child from one sex to another, and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures."In an April memo, Attorney General Pam Bondi noted, "The Department of Justice will not sit idly by while doctors, motivated by ideology, profits, or both, exploit and mutilate our children. Under my watch, the Department will act decisively to protect our children and hold accountable those who mutilate them under the guise of care."DEPT OF EDUCATION LABELS JUNE AS TITLE IX MONTH IN WAKE OF TRANS ATHLETES WINNING GIRLS' COMPETITIONSFox News Digital reached out to the Justice Department on Tuesday morning, but did not receive a response by the time of publication.

Flying car with 620-mile range scheduled for upcoming launch
Have you ever wished you could skip the traffic and just fly to your destination in the same vehicle you drove to the airport? Thats exactly what the Klein Vision AirCar is promising. After more than 30 years of development, this flying car is finally about to become a reality for early buyers.Lets see what sets the AirCar apart, how it actually works and what the future might hold for this ambitious project.Join the FREE "CyberGuy Report": Get my expert tech tips, critical security alerts and exclusive deals, plus instant access to myfree "Ultimate Scam Survival Guide" when you sign up!The story ofAirCar begins in Slovakia, where designer tefan Klein and his team have been working on flying cars since the late 1980s. After years of prototypes and over 500 test flights, the AirCar is finally set for certification later this year. Customer deliveries are planned for early 2026, and the company even has plans for an amphibious version that could land on water.RADICAL NEW TECH BRINGS FLYING CARS CLOSER TO REALITYSo, how does it work? The AirCar looks like a sleek sports coupe on the road, with four wheels and a design that would fit right in next to a luxury sedan. When you need to fly, you simply drive to a runway, press a button and watch as the wings unfold and the tail extends. The transformation takes about 80 seconds, and there's no manual tinkering required. Once the wings are locked and the tail is in place, you're ready for takeoff. The steering wheel transforms into a flight yoke, and extra pedals appear for rudder control. The controls are designed to be intuitive for pilots, so if you already have a private pilot's license, you won't need to learn anything new.ORLANDO'S PLAN FOR FLYING CARS TAKES OFFUnder the hood, the production AirCar will offer three engine options, all 3.2-liter V6s from South African company Adept Airmotive. The base model puts out 280 horsepower, while the top version offers 340 horsepower with twin turbos. On the road, the AirCar can reach a top speed of about 124 mph, and it handles and feels much like a sports car. In the air, it cruises at 155 mph and can travel up to 620 miles on a single tank of fuel. The cabin is not pressurized, so the recommended ceiling is 10,000 feet, but it could go higher with oxygen tanks. The AirCar runs on regular high-octane gasoline, and you can fill up at most gas stations. In terms of size, it is about as long as a Mercedes S-Class and narrow enough to fit in a standard parking spot.THIS FLYING MOTORCYCLE CAN TAKE YOU FROM TRAFFIC TO SKY IN MINUTESTo operate the AirCar on the road, you will need a standard driver's license, just like any other car. If you want to take to the skies, you'll also need a private pilot's license. According to Klein Vision, the AirCar is designed so that if you already have a private pilot's license, you won't have to learn anything new to fly it. This means owners will need both driving and flying licenses, along with access to a runway, to fully experience everything the AirCar can do.BEST FATHER'S DAY GIFTS FOR EVERY DADThe AirCar is expected to cost between $800,000 and $1.2 million, which puts it in the same category as high-end supercars and small private planes. It is geared toward mega-rich business travelers, air taxi operators and anyone who wants to skip traffic and simply fly over it instead.Unlike many flying car projects that never make it past the prototype stage, the AirCar is close to full certification and production. It is also one of the few with four wheels, making it truly road-legal in most places. While other companies have spent hundreds of millions on similar ideas, Klein Vision has achieved this on a much smaller budget.Klein Vision isn't stopping with a two-seater. The company is already working on versions with three or four seats, and there's talk of an amphibious model that could land on water. This would open up even more travel possibilities, such as island hopping or reaching remote lakes.SUBSCRIBE TO KURT'S YOUTUBE CHANNEL FOR QUICK VIDEO TIPS ON HOW TO WORK ALL OF YOUR TECH DEVICESIt's wild to think that flying cars have been a daydream for so long, and now the AirCar is right on the verge of making it real. This is a vehicle you could actually see on the road and in the air pretty soon. Sure, you'll need a pilot's license and a pretty big budget, but the fact that something like this is even possible is pretty amazing. Honestly, the idea that we might spot a car rolling up to a runway and then lifting off in just a year or two is kind of crazy. Are we truly prepared to share our skies with cars as easily as we share our roads? Ron DeSantis punched back at allegations linking the governor and his wife, Casey DeSantis, to $10 million given to the Hope Florida Foundation after the state settled with a government-sponsored healthcare provider."Governor DeSantis and Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis have been subject to politically motivated lawfare in the state of Florida, and now the same lawfare is being perpetrated against President Trump and his nominees," Communications Director Bryan Griffin told Fox News Digital."Its ridiculous and especially shameful coming from Republicans who hate to see others delivering results."DESANTIS GOADS CONGRESS TO FOLLOW FLS DOGE BLUEPRINT AS MUSKS CUTS STILL WAIT FOR VOTECentene, a large medical insurance provider that specializes in government-sponsored programs like Medicaid and Medicare, returned $67 million in a settlement with the states Agency for Health Care Administration over claims that Centene was overbilling Medicaid payments. Following the settlement in September 2024, $10 million of the funds were sent to the Hope Florida Foundation. The $10 million given to the Hope Florida Foundation was then split into two separate $5 million grants to 501(c)(4) organizations. One went to Save Our Society from Drugs and the other to Secure Floridas Future, Inc.Subsequently, $8.5 million of those funds were dispersed to Keep Florida Clean, a political action committee that previously targeted Florida Amendment 3, a constitutional amendment to recreationally legalize marijuana. Alex Andrade, chairman of the healthcare appropriations subcommittee, originally unearthed the funds. Andrade told Fox he was unaware if there was an actual ongoing investigation, but added that he had a "long conversation with the [Department of Justice]" about documents and communications related to the movement of funds. He noted he does nOt "see how Casey or [Ron] DeSantis are involved."DR. "Thats it."DeSantis previously addressed Andrades claims at a May 21 press conference in Westin, Florida.DESANTIS EXCORIATES FL HOUSE LEADERSHIP AMID REPUBLICAN CIVIL WAR, ACCUSING THEM OF 'REVOLT AGAINST' VOTERS"You had one state representative with a political agenda, and he has a political agenda to try to smear Hope Floridato try to smear people associated with the administration," DeSantis explained.
