WWW.FOXNEWS.COMKing Charles III visits Canada as show of support for country coveted by TrumpKing Charles III arrived in Canada on Monday for a symbolic visit showing support for the country, which recognizes him as its sovereign, amid U.S. President Donald Trump's threats to acquire the North American nation as the 51st U.S. state.Charles and his wife Queen Camilla landed at Ottawa Airport in Ontario, where the king met on the tarmac with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Governor General Mary Simon, the king's representative in Canada. The king later held separate meetings with Carney and Simon.Charles, 76, has kept a limited schedule while undergoing cancer treatment. His two-trip to Canada signals a strong commitment to the country, which is one of 15 nations where he is monarch. This is Charles' first visit to the former British colony since becoming king in September 2022.KING CHARLES AND PRINCE HARRY 'EXTREMELY UNLIKELY' TO RECONCILE DESPITE MONARCH'S CANADA TRIP: EXPERTThe king accepted an invitation from Carney to open Parliament on Tuesday the first time a British monarch has carried out the duty since his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth, 68 years ago.Carney invited Charles to Canada after Trump repeatedly suggested he wanted to annex the country, an idea fiercely rebuked by the prime minister, who secured an election win last month in part due to Canadians' disapproval of Trump's wish to make the country part of the U.S."The prime minister has made it clear that Canada is not for sale now, is not for sale ever," Canada's envoy to the U.K., Ralph Goodale, told reporters during a visit last week by Charles to Canada's high commission in London."The king, as head of state, will reinforce the power and the strength of that message," Goodale added.Earlier this month, Carney told Trump thatCanada is "not for sale" and "won't be for sale, ever" during a meeting at the White House.Charles has made subtle signals showing his support for Canada in recent months by wearing Canadian medals, calling himself the king of Canada and describing the country's flag as "a symbol that never fails to elicit a sense of pride and admiration."MEGHAN MARKLE AND PRINCE HARRY HOST BROOKLYN BECKHAM, NICOLA PELTZ AMID FAMILY TENSIONS ON BOTH SIDES: REPORTThe king now must perform a tricky balancing act as British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is attempting to reach favorable outcomes with Trump over trade and the war in Ukraine. When Starmer visited the White House in February, he delivered Trump an invitation from Charles for an unprecedented second state visit for the U.S. president, who has repeatedly praised the royal family.Carney, however, said that gesture had upset Canadians.Reuters contributed to this report.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 74 Views 0 önizleme

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMNew Orleans jail security 'train wreck' helped 4-time escapee, 9 others break out: former wardenDeficient security protocols allowed a serial escape artist and nine others to break out of a New Orleans jail, according to a former federal prison warden."First of all, that jail had been deemed a train wreck in terms of just basic jail operations," Cameron Lindsay told Fox News Digital.Lindsay worked for 20 years in the federal prison system, seven of them as a warden. He was once the warden of the infamous Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. He also served as a warden at two private prisons. Now, he is a consultant and expert witness."It would appear that basic security inspections were not taking place at the jail. Inmates should never be able to tear a toilet off of a wall and just be able to go right to the perimeter fence," he said. "I mean, I just can't believe that."DEMOCRAT LAWMAKERS DEMAND LOUISIANA SHERIFF RESIGN AFTER 10 INMATES ESCAPE JAILIn 2013, the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office (OPSO), which runs the Orleans Parish Correctional Facility, entered into a consent decree with the Department of Justice to keep the jail operational. The decree stemmed from civil rights abuses, and OPSO agreed to federal government oversight and biannual compliance checks. The latest of those compliance check reports shows that the jail was fully compliant with 42% of the decree's measures and completely noncompliant with at least 5% of them. It is partially compliant with about 53% of the measures. The report, released in October 2024, paints a picture of completely inadequate inmate supervision, leading to violence and the use of illicit drugs, shakedown and extortion schemes, and inmates having limitless time to fashion weapons out of everyday jail items."There were significant incidents of violence occurring within the facilities during the monitoring period; including inmate-on-inmate assaults and assaults on staff," according to the report. "The level of violence in the facility continued to be at all-time high levels during this monitoring period."LOUISIANA GOVERNOR BLASTS 'PROGRESSIVE PROMISES' AFTER NEW ORLEANS JAIL ESCAPE"The inmates appear to be emboldened in their refusal to follow the rules and obey the orders of the security staff," the report said. "Very concerning is that both staff and inmates continue to relay to the Monitors that there are inmates who are acting as tank bosses and are extorting other inmates and requiring payment for protection."There was also no jail monitoring system to verify that security checks were taking place and being reported at regular intervals. Those failures have come into focus since the early morning hours of May 17, when 10 inmates broke out of the jail and ran amok in the New Orleans area.As of Friday afternoon, five of them remained at large.WATCH: Many points of failure in jailbreak, says FBI special agent"Inmate security checks represent a critical, industry-accepted minimum standard," Lindsay told Fox News Digital. "Failure to conduct them is a serious threat to the overall basic security of any correctional facility. It speaks to [a] lack of effective correctional leadership and possibly a lack of appropriate funding."LOUISIANA JAIL WORKER ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY HELPING 10 INMATES ESCAPE ORLEANS PARISH FACILITYOne of the 10 escapees was Antoine Massey, who was being held in the jail on charges of domestic abuse involving strangulation, theft of a motor vehicle and a parole violation. He was also wanted for rape and kidnapping in St. Tammany Parish, according to Fox 8.Massey had escaped from custody three times since 2007 and was no longer eligible to be released with an electronic ankle monitor because he kept cutting them off.Massey was still at large on Friday afternoon.Linsday said that from his perspective as a warden, OPSO should have taken extraordinary precautions with Massey, knowing that he had such a history."He would be housed in the most secure location within the jail," he said. "All staff would be apprised of this individual, and given his incredibly high risk for escape, I would require documented frequent checks at least once every 30 minutes on an irregular schedule.""I would also insist on documented correctional supervisor rounds, ensuring line staff are strictly following guidelines for inmates of this caliber who present the greatest threat to the community," he said.NEW ORLEANS JAIL INMATES CHARGED WITH MURDER AND OTHER CRIMES ESCAPELindsay was critical of the leadership at the jail."I don't know why you would have nine high-security-level individuals in one cell like that," he said. "It just doesn't sound like it's a well-operated correctional facility. It sounds like it's a mess.""And I tell you what, here's another thing that speaks to me about the ineffectiveness of this facility," he said. "I would tell you that they don't know the first thing about emergency preparedness, because when you have an escape, there should be an immediate response. There should be no delay whatsoever. That information should go out to law enforcement and through the community."The inmates escaped in the early morning hours of May 16, but jail staff did not realize they were missing until about 8:30 a.m., they said in a City Council meeting after the escape.New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick was notified of the escape by one of her captains, who heard about it in the media."An escape is the quintessential failure in corrections," Lindsay said."It is the quintessential failure because your No. 1 objective is to protect the community and then to protect the staff and to protect the inmates. But your No. 1 objective is to ensure that these inmates are segregated from free society, so you have to prevent an escape."The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office did not respond to a request for comment.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 34 Views 0 önizleme

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMExperts solve mystery of ancient 'mummified dragon' discovered by Japanese shogunResearchers believe they've cracked the mystery of a mummified "rainbow dragon" that's been sitting in a Japanese treasure house for centuries. The "dragon" has been stashed at the Shosoin Treasure House in the historic Japanese city of Nara, according to Pen News. The remains were reportedly found by Yoshinori Ashikaga, a 15th-century shogun, in 1429.Legend states that Ashikaga cut a piece from the Ranjatai, a rare and valuable piece of agarwood, at the time of the skeleton's discovery. The shogun was visiting the Todai-ji temple in Nara at the time.'DEMONIC' MONKEY, TWEEZERS AND ANCIENT COINS UNCOVERED BY ARCHAEOLOGISTS DURING GERMAN CHURCH EXCAVATIONShortly after, a monk at the temple claimed to have seen "something in the shape of a small dragon" that was dried by the sun. Ashikaga took the skeleton and preserved it.But was the skeleton a dragon after all? Researchers say not quite.A recently published study said the "dragon" was actually a female Japanese marten. The fluffy, weasel-like animal is native to central and southern Japan.RESEARCHERS UNCOVER THE ODD REASON AN 'UNUSUAL' MUMMY SURVIVED THE CENTURIES"The two premolars are clearly visible, and this characteristic indicates that it is a species of the Martes genus," the study states.Using x-ray technology and radiocarbon dating, researchers found that the marten dated back to the 11th or 12th centuries. For more Lifestyle articles, visit foxnews.com/lifestyleThe Todai-ji temple underwent heavy renovations at the time, according to Pen News. Experts believe the animal entered the building and was trapped before it died and was mummified.Pictures show the marten missing its forelegs, making it resemble a dragon.Legend states that rain would descend upon the treasure house every time the skeleton's repository was opened and during the study, researchers fought heavy downpours that made traveling from Tokyo to Nara difficult.Mami Tsuru, a conservationist at the Shosoin Treasure House, told Pen News she's certain the skeleton is the same one recorded by the Todai-ji monk.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER"The age determination has significantly increased the possibility that the mummy is the sun-dried dragon-looking object recorded in the document from the Muromachi Period," the expert said.Tsuru added, "We believe this is a good example of how Shosoin has protected not only beautiful items, but also all the items inside the repository."0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 41 Views 0 önizleme

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMSocial media support for accused killers Luigi Mangione, Elias Rodriguez an 'exceptionally bad sign': expertSocial media users have been drawing comparisons between online support for accused killers Elias Rodriguez, Rodney Hinton Jr. and Luigi Mangione."That people who commit murder are receiving any meaningful amount of public support, seemingly because the victims are seen by the murders supporters as belonging to the political opposition, is an exceptionally bad sign for our society," Nicholas Creel, Georgia College and State University ethics professor, told Fox News Digital. "Democracy requires people to be committed to certain values, such as the peaceable resolution of our differences. Without that, were at risk for a far wider breakdown in the rule of law, the kind where mass atrocities can easily arise."Rodriguez, 31, of Chicago, is accused of killing Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, a young engaged couple who worked at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday evening outside the Capital Jewish Museum.Mangione, 26, is charged with first-degree murder in furtherance of an act of terrorism, stalking and a slew of other state and federal charges in both New York and Pennsylvania for allegedly gunning down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, a 50-year-old married father of two, on a sidewalk in Manhattan on Dec. 4, 2024.FATHER OF SUSPECT ACCUSED OF KILLING ISRAELI EMBASSY STAFFERS IN DC WAS GUEST AT TRUMP'S JOINT ADDRESSHinton, 38, is charged with aggravated murder after he allegedly "intentionally" struck retired Hamilton County Deputy Larry Henderson, who was directing traffic near the University of Cincinnati during a graduation ceremony, with a vehicle around 1 p.m. on May 2. He allegedly killed the officer a day after Cincinnati police fatally shot his son during a foot pursuit, according to police.Experts who spoke with Fox News Digital also noted social media support for 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, who shot at then-presidential candidate Donald Trump during his 2024 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, before being fatally shot by responding officers.SUSPECT ACCUSED OF KILLING ISRAELI EMBASSY STAFFERS IN DC COULD FACE MORE CHARGES"Now that we're seeing these other murders get the same kind of attention [as Brian Thompson's], it does seem to be a pattern that is fairly new in terms of the reaction to this," Creel told Fox News Digital regarding support for Mangione and Rodriguez specifically. "So when you get this larger and larger portion of the population that's willing to sanction that sort of behavior, you become very much ripe for a sort of authoritarian takeover, the kind that can start to lead to mass atrocities."He added that the most recent killings of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim represent a "very destructive sort of behavior to society."ISRAELI AMBASSADOR CONNECTS EMBASSY STAFFERS' SLAYING TO 'VERY IMPORTANT' BIGGER PICTURE"When we look at how does a country become a democracy and remain one because that's never a guarantee what we tend to see is there's certain values society has to hold, and one of those is the idea of not resorting to violence," Creel said.He and his colleague, Ania Rynarzewska, an assistant professor of marketing, have conducted research showing that people feel more empowered when their radical beliefs and ideas get support online.POLICE RAID DC SHOOTING SUSPECT ELIAS RODRIGUEZ'S CHICAGO APARTMENT"Our research has found so far that before [Thompson's murder], people felt powerless. So they felt like their voice didn't matter," Rynarzewska said. "And after the incident and after people started voicing their opinion on social media they felt more empowered to speak. They felt like their voices were in the majority, so they no longer have to suppress it."In all three cases, authorities allege that the suspects had political or personal motives behind their respective alleged actions, and all three men are receiving support, both monetary and nonfinancial, from radical social media users.A preliminary investigation in the Rodriguez case shows the suspect was allegedly observed pacing back and forth outside the museum before he approached a group of four people leaving the building, including the two victims, and began shooting, D.C. authorities said.He then entered the museum, where he was detained by event security. While in custody, he yelled, "Free, free Palestine!"Mangione similarly shouted a message after his arrest in Altoona, Pennsylvania."It's completely out of touch and an insult to the intelligence of the American people and its lived experience," Mangione shouted outside a courthouse in Hollidaysburg days after his arrest.WHO IS THE SUSPECT IN THE KILLING OF 2 ISRAELI EMBASSY STAFFERS?Paul Mauro, former NYPD inspector and Fox News contributor, told Fox News Digital that Mangione, Rodriguez, Hinton and Crooks represent "a very specialized class of violent losers.""At some point, everybody's been down in their luck," Mauro said. "But when you are in and around 30 years old, and you are still clinging to these adolescent beliefs about the world and how you are on the side of the righteous because you are a member of a particular internet forum, and you're willing to extinguish the lives of others you're going to take away loved ones from families. Well, I'm sorry, but you guys are in a class by yourselves."He added that law enforcement professionals have seen such activity by young radicals "developing" since about 2020.Mauro also said officials should be following the money that U.S. colleges and universities are receiving from nongovernment organizations and whether any of that funding comes from U.S. adversaries, such as Iran. The former NYPD inspector noted that Rodriguez, Mangione, Crooks and, to an extent, Hinton are all relatively young men who had "their whole lives ahead of them" before allegedly hunting down people they believed to be their political or personal "opponents.""They weaponize these college kids who are susceptible and naive and who have never really been scuffed up by the real world," Mauro said. "And in many cases, they don't want to be. They don't really want to go out and get jobs and do all the stuff that we did. And they stay in this hyperprogressive bubble thinking that they're on the side of the righteous. And then what happens is they manage to survive."Creel and Rynarzewska similarly noted that young people who are lonely or isolated tend to find a sense of community in people who share radical views online."From a bigger societal perspective, that's where we really see the destructive influence on youth," Creel said. "When you're young, you're developing your sense of the world. You're coming to figure out, when you come of age, what's acceptable, what's not. That's when norms are being developed, your values take hold. And so, because of that, when you see these far more fringe-type positions of people supporting violence murder, even that becomes one of those things that then you think is normalized."Mangione and Hinton have pleaded not guilty to their respective crimes. Fox News Digital has reached out to their attorneys for comment.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 36 Views 0 önizleme

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMSheriff reveals 26 illegal migrants not on federal 'radar' among 255 arrested in Florida sex-trafficking stingA multi-level operation, aptly named "Fool Around and Find Out," nabbed 255 suspected human traffickers, child sex predators and illegal migrants in Central Florida. The Polk County, Florida, operation, conducted over nine days in May, resulted in the arrest of the highest number of individuals ever recorded in a single sting by the sheriff's office.Sheriff Grady Judd told Fox News Digital that the operation was a coordinated effort with multiple law enforcement partners, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which was embedded for the first time with the Central Florida department."We made a lot of arrests. Our team preps in advance. We know what places to go on social media to find those evil people or to set up for them to come to us, so they did a remarkable job."FLORIDA SHERIFF ASKS TRUMP'S ICE TO REMOVE BIDEN-ERA 'SHACKLES'One of the most startling revelations from the operation was 36 illegal migrants apprehended. Judd said 26 of them had not checked in with federal authorities, making them untraceable until this operation."Twenty-six of them were not even on the federal government's radar," he said. "They had snuck in the country and did not check in."The migrants arrested account for approximately 15% of the total, and Judd argued that their absence could have prevented that same amount of crime."If those illegal immigrants weren't here in this country, then there would have been 15% less crime committed," he said.WATCH: Former NFL player arrested in Florida human trafficking bustThe operation also revealed a cross-section of suspects from all walks of American life.Among those arrested were a medical doctor, an executive from the American Red Cross, active and retired military personnel, and even a former NFL player, Adarius Taylor. Prior to retirement in 2020, Taylor played for the Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cleveland Browns.Judd recounted that the ex-NFL player left his young, medically vulnerable child alone in a car while he allegedly sought sexual favors from an undercover officer posing as a prostitute.Another suspect allegedly visited the operation while his wife was battling cancer at home."Are you kidding me?" Judd exclaimed. "Your wife is being treated for cancer. And at a time in her life where she needs you the most, you're turning out a trick with a hooker at an undercover location? That is incredible. There were all kinds of occasions, just like that."Detectives charged a total of 102 felonies and 284 misdemeanors during the investigation. The suspects' prior criminal histories included a combined total of 400 felonies and 519 misdemeanors, with charges such as premeditated murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, robbery, aggravated battery and sexual assault."The online prostitution industry enables traffickers and allows for the continued victimization of those who are being trafficked," Judd said in a release following the sting. "Our goal is to identify victims, offer them help, and arrest those who are fueling the exploitation of human beings (Johns) and those profiting from the exploitation of human beings. Prostitution is not a victimless crime it results in exploitation, disease, drug and alcohol addiction, violence, and broken families."FLORIDA MAN IMPERSONATES ICE AGENT, THREATENS TO DEPORT 2 MEN, POLICE SAYJudd said Polk County has a zero-tolerance stance on criminal activity."This is not the last one. This is just the last one. There's going to be another one, and another one and another one."Judd's message is clear: those who come to Florida with criminal intent will not remain in the shadows and will be publicly held accountable."Florida is the vacation state. People come from all around the world with their children," he said. "We want to make sure that its a safe environment, and it is.""If you think you're gonna sneak here and, Hey, what goes on in Florida stays in Florida, that's wrong," he said. " I'll put you on blast all across the nation, and that's a guarantee."0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 32 Views 0 önizleme
