Packers beat Commanders to start season 2-0 with strong performance at Lambeau Field
The Green Bay Packers had yet another commanding win to begin the new season, taking down the Washington Commanders, 27-18, to start 2-0 on the year. The Packers defeated the Detroit Lions in Week 1 at home, and Lambeau Fields first night game of the campaign had a sold-out crowd loving what they saw from Matt LaFleurs squad on Thursday night.Meanwhile, after looking great in their season opener against the New York Giants, the Commanders offense was flustered against a Packers defense that shined in Week 1.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMAfter looking great in their season opener against the New York Giants, the Commanders offense was flustered against a Packers defense that shined in Week 1 against the Lions.Keeping Jayden Daniels in the pocket, the second-year quarterback was forced to throw the ball, but the Packers secondary was blanketing receivers in coverage and making it hard to get anything going.START STREAMING WITH A 7-DAY FREE TRIAL AT FOXONE.COM OR DOWNLOAD THE FOX ONE APP ON YOUR FAVORITE DEVICEThe Commanders were forced to punt on their first three possessions, but Jordan Love and the Packers offense were able to go 96 yards on their second drive to find seven points with a Romeo Doubs quick slant for the score. Tucker Kraft, the games leader in receiving yards with 124 on just six catches, had a massive 57-yard reception to quickly flip the field into Washington territory during the drive. Green Bay would find the end zone once more in the first half, courtesy of another 90-plus-yard drive. Malik Heaths insane toe-tap grab on the sideline, which was reversed after video replay review, was a massive 37-yard swing for the Packers during the drive. Josh Jacobs kept his touchdown streak going with now 10 straight regular-season games hes found colored paint on a two-yard run to make it 14-0.Meanwhile, Matt Gay got the Commanders on the board with a 51-yard field goal in the second quarter, but he was unable to convert from 58 yards before the half was over. And when the second half started, Gay couldnt turn a solid Commanders drive into three more points, banging the ball off the right goal post. But while the Commanders struggled with their offense, their defense was keeping the Packers at bay entering the fourth quarter with a 17-3 ballgame in favor of Green Bay. Daniels saw the opportunity with only 15 minutes left to play, and orchestrated a 50-yard touchdown drive where his trusty tight end Zach Ertz fought his way in with a 20-yard catch-and-run score to make it a 17-10 game. Now, the pressure was on Green Bay to get back to scoring, and Love was up for the task. The Packers went 65 yards, and Love used his own tight end, finding Kraft for the easy touchdown. With the two-touchdown deficit, the Commanders were in desperation mode. Daniels was able to get his offense into the end zone, with Deebo Samuel getting his second touchdown of the season. But even with the two-point conversion to make it 27-18, the clock wasn't the Commanders' friend in the end.Looking at the box score, Love was 19-of-31 for 292 yards with two more touchdown passes to his early-season resume, while Jacobs had 84 rushing yards on 23 carries and his score. For the Commanders, Daniels was 24-for-41 for 200 yards and two touchdowns, while being held to just 17 yards on seven carries. As a team, Washington rushed for just 51 total yards compared to Green Bays 137.Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X, and subscribe tothe Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Aaron Boone recalls 'special night' after Trump's meeting with Yankees on 9/11 anniversary
Thursday night in New York marked the first time since 2019 that a sitting president had attended a Major League Baseball game.It is hardly the first sporting event President Donald Trump has been to since his second term began, but this one had a little extra juice to it.Trump attended the New York Yankees' 9-3 win over the Detroit Tigers in the Bronx on the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMRoughly a few miles from Ground Zero, Trump received a mostly positive ovation from the more than 40,000 people at Yankee Stadium. Yet the crowd was able to get over differences for multiple "USA" chants throughout the night."It was an awesome night. Meaningful," manager Aaron Boone told reporters after the game. "Captain [Aaron Judge] just spoke about it, just having us out there kind of all lined up together, first for the moment of silence, then back out there for the anthem, and just that buzz that New York City can create, you definitely felt it tonight. Obviously, the president being here, just an added layer. September baseball against a really good club. A special night to be a part of, and hopefully none of us took it for granted."Trump met with the Yankees in the clubhouse and called Judge a "fantastic player." The reigning AL MVP (and favorite to win again this year) responded by belting a home run in each of his first two at-bats and tying Joe DiMaggio for fourth place on the Yankees' all-time home runs list.AARON JUDGE HITS 2 HOME RUNS AFTER MEETING TRUMP, WHO CALLED HIM A 'FANTASTIC PLAYER'"It was meaningful to see your superstar go out there and do that. And I know what it meant to Aaron. You guys know how impactful and how important that NY is that he wears in the pinstripes. What it is to represent this city now as one of the faces of the city as a sports figure now, it means a lot to him, and it's not lost on him. So for him to go out and have that game on a night like tonight is a little extra special," Boone said. The clock almost struck midnight on Trump's visit to the Yankees he entered the clubhouse at around 6:40 p.m. ET, and according to Boone, he was supposed to arrive at 5:45 p.m. ET.But the skipper sounded like the wait was worth it."It was great. I was there with Carlos [Rodon] and Gerrit [Cole] when he walked into the doors of our clubhouse. It's a little intimidating, you're a little nervous, but he was great," Boone said. "He's great in that setting, real personable, took some pictures, shook hands. And then we walked him into the main area where the players were, and they got to greet him."It was a really, really cool interaction, I think, for a lot of people. Glad he was able to be here, and I think it meant a lot to a lot of people. So definitely a cool experience."Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X,and subscribe tothe Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Rubio warns Brazil of US response after Bolsonaro's conviction for plotting a coup
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday that the U.S. would respond after former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was convicted of plotting a coup to remain in power after his loss in the 2022 election, although the secretary did not go into detail about what a U.S. response would look like."The political persecutions by sanctioned human rights abuser Alexandre de Moraes continue, as he and others on Brazil's supreme court have unjustly ruled to imprison former President Jair Bolsonaro," Rubio wrote on X."The United States will respond accordingly to this witch hunt," he continued.Brazil's Foreign Ministry argued that Rubio's comment represented a threat that "attacks Brazilian authority and ignores the facts and the compelling evidence in the records."TRUMP ADMIN SANCTIONS BRAZILIAN JUDGE OVERSEEING BOLSONARO COUP-PLOT PROBEThe ministry said Brazilian democracy would not be intimidated by the U.S. government.Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison when he was convicted by the country's Supreme Court on Thursday on charges of plotting a coup to stop President Luiz Incio Lula da Silva from taking office in January 2023.The former Brazilian leader was a close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump during the first Trump administration."Well, I watched that trial. I know him pretty well. I thought he was a good president of Brazil, and it's very surprising that could happen very much like they tried to do with me, but they didn't get away with it at all," Trump told reporters, noting the legal cases against the U.S. president in recent years at the state and federal level, which included his conviction in New York."But I can always say this: I knew him as president of Brazil. He was a good man," he added.RUBIO ANNOUNCES VISA REVOCATIONS ON BRAZILIAN JUDGE FOR 'POLITICAL WITH HUNT' AGAINST EX-PRESIDENT BOLSONAROTrump has criticized the Brazilian judicial system and threatened tariffs on the country for its case against Bolsonaro. In July, the U.S. president placed 50% tariffs on most Brazilian goods in response to a "witch hunt" against Bolsonaro. He later exempted some Brazilian exports, including passenger vehicles and numerous parts and components used in civil aircraft.Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, his unspecified allies on the court and his immediate family members will face visa revocations, according to Rubio, who criticized what he called a "political witch hunt" against the former president. That same month, Rubio announced visa revocations on Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who presided over Bolsonaro's criminal case, and his unspecified allies on the court after the court issued search warrants and restraining orders against Bolsonaro. The U.S. Treasury Department had also sanctioned the judge over allegations of authorizing arbitrary pre-trial detentions and suppressing freedom of expression.Bolsonaro's son, Brazilian Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro, said he anticipates additional U.S. sanctions against Brazilian justices following his father's conviction."We are going to have a firm response with actions from the U.S. government against this dictatorship that is being installed in Brazil," he told Reuters on Thursday. He warned that justices who voted to convict the former president could face sanctions under the Magnitsky Act, which was previously used by the Trump administration against de Moraes."If these Supreme Court justices keep following Moraes, they also run the risk of facing the same sanction," he said.Reuters contributed to this report.
