CBS host asks Kevin McCarthy whether Republicans need to 'reflect' on their rhetoric after Kirk assassination
"CBS Mornings" co-host Nate Burleson asked former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy Thursday whether he felt Republicans need to "reflect" on their rhetoric after the assassination of Charlie Kirk.Kirk, a husband and father of two, was tragically killed by a gunshot to the neck while speaking at a TPUSA event at Utah Valley University Wednesday.Burleson noted that the TPUSA founder's words were "offensive to specific communities" at times, and "not everyone took to his words or his rhetoric" before questioning McCarthy.COMPLETE COVERAGE OF CHARLIE KIRK"Speaking of this tragedy, is this a moment for your party to reflect on political violence?" he asked McCarthy in a clip flagged by The Daily Caller. "Is it a moment for us to think about the responsibility of our political leaders and their voices and what it does to the masses as they get lost in misinformation or disinformation that turns in and spills into political violence?"McCarthy responded by stating he doesn't see rising political violence as an issue within individual parties but rather as an issue that the entire nation is facing. He recalled a speech given by Robert F. Kennedy following the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, comparing the speech to the immediate aftermath of Kirk's slaying.VIDEO SHOWS MOMENTS BEFORE ASSASSINATION OF TURNING POINT USA FOUNDER CHARLIE KIRK"It was remarkable, the words he said. He said, We have to ask ourselves as a nation, who are we? And how do we want to move forward? We have watched this political attack on both sides. Weve watched this on both sides," he said. The former speaker continued, reiterating that this is "not a question about parties," but a "question of nations," referencing other recent tragedies like the Annunciation Catholic School shooting in Minnesota last month and the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump last year."This is what happened in the '60s," he argued. "This is a moment in time for this nation to take this time to actually make a question about all of us."CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTUREKirk's shocking death has been met with widespread mourning and outrage. Trump, who counted Kirk as a friend and close political ally, called him a patriot and man of deep faith."An assassin tried to silence him with a bullet, but he failed, because together, we will ensure that his voice, his message and his legacy will live on for countless generations to come," Trump said Wednesday from the Oval Office. As of Thursday morning, Kirk's killer remains at large.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Inside the mind of a shooter: profiler breaks down the planning behind high-level assassination attempts
The assassin behind Charlie Kirk's murder is still on the lam, and is likely an individual who lacks social skills, isolates himself and has only a loose plan for next steps, retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent and profiler James Clemente told Fox News Digital."In this case, it's likely that there has been for some time, a building frustration, and anger, and rage and an inability to feel that is addressed. And so they wanted to make a big a very big public statement. [The suspect] probably has a very poor self image, and wanted to do something big to feel better about themselves. And they probably, again, don't have the skills to address these issues in a calm, rational, interpersonal way. And that's why they lashed out in this very violent and extreme manner," Clemente, who is also the co-host and creator of the show "Real Crime Profile," told Fox News Digital in a phone interview on Thursday.Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot by an unidentified individual on Wednesday afternoon while attending an event at Utah Valley University as part of his "American Comeback Tour." Kirk was a massive voice for the conservative movement, championing faith, family and freedom-focused values for youths, most notably on college campuses through TPUSA.The shocking assassination has not yet yielded a suspect, with the FBI and local law enforcement agencies currently poring through evidence to identify and apprehend the individual.CHARLIE KIRK ASSASSINATION: DISPATCH AUDIO REVEALS SUSPECT IN BLACK TACTICAL GEAR, CARRYING LONG GUNClemente spoke to Fox Digital specifically about a shooter's pre- and post-offense behavior, noting that the suspect likely dropped hints or divulged details of the planned assassination to friends or family, or via social media posts ahead of the violence."This is not likely a repeat offense for this person. It's probably the first time that they ever acted out in this way, and therefore they probably leaked out information beforehand," he said, adding that the suspect may have dropped information to others while at work to colleagues or while drinking at a bar.CHARLIE KIRK ASSASSINATION SUSPECT EVADES MANHUNT AS INVESTIGATORS ANALYZE SECURITY FOOTAGEHigh-profile shooters typically drop breadcrumbs of information on their planned attack "because they don't know for certain that this is what they're going to do, but they are building up this frustration and anger and rage, and they want to take it out."The retired FBI profiler added that the suspect is likely not a sophisticated killer and was only "developing" a murderous persona, which would make the individual more prone to speaking openly about the upcoming attack.Police dispatch audio revealed police were on the hunt for a person wearing all black and carrying a long rifle near the university library, Fox News Digital previously reported. Investigators later said they recovered a "high-powered, bolt-action rifle" near the scene after tracing the assassin's suspected escape route.Police, citing images of a person of interest that they obtained, reported the individual appeared to be college-age and "blended in well" with the crowd."Starting at 11:52 a.m. this subject arrived on campus, shortly away from campus," Utah Department of Public Safety Director Beau Mason told reporters on Thursday. "We have tracked his movements onto the campus through the stairwells, up to the roof across the roof to the shooting location. After the shooting, we were able to track his movements as he moved to the other side of the building, jumped off of the building and fled, off of the campus and into a neighborhood."VIDEO SHOWS MOMENTS BEFORE ASSASSINATION OF TURNING POINT USA FOUNDER CHARLIE KIRKClemente, in his breakdown of the suspect's "post-offense behavior," said the shooter likely did not map out a next step plan after carrying out the assassination, pointing to how police recovered the rifle tossed near the scene of the tragedy."He had no idea what was going to happen afterwards, what was going to happen during, whether he was going to get away with it or not. And so, therefore, he didn't plan out his after-game," Clemente said. The retired FBI supervisory special agent added that the suspect is likely currently showing a guilty hand with odd behaviors, such as making an excuse of facing some type of emergency and needing to abruptly leave his home, job or school.CHARLIE KIRK DEAD AT 31: WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HIS LEGACY AT TURNING POINT USA"Somebody knows this person. A number of people know this person. A number of people will have some kind of interaction with him, in which he will sort of try to avoid the spotlight until the heat is off of him. And so he may leave the area for kind of a last-minute emergency and then try to come back when everything's calmed down," Clemente said.TRUMP RESPONDS TO CHARLIE KIRK SHOOTING: LOVED AND ADMIRED BY ALLThe FBI is currently offering up to $100,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect or suspects, with FBI Director Kash Patel heading to Utah on Thursday.Clemente stressed to Fox News Digital that the FBI is investigating "everything.""They're using whatever technology is available. They're definitely looking at all videos. There's literally hundreds and hundreds of videos out there from the students and the attendees at this rally. There's also cameras out in the real world that I'm certain that they followed this person's egress and ingress and, that's how they found the weapon, and it is also how he's going to be identified," he said.Kirk, 31, leaves behind his wife Erika and their two children, ages one and three. His casket will be transported to Arizona on Air Force Two, Fox News Digital reported on Thursday.Fox News Digital's Michael Ruiz contributed to this report.

LAURA INGRAHAM: The Charlie Kirk I knew
Faith, family and country. Saying you hold them dear or posting anonymously online when youre fired up thats fine. But Charlie Kirk took it to the next level. He didnt just talk. He acted. He had the guts, drive and focus to go out there day after day, night after night and fight for what he believed. The threats to his personal safety were well known, but he wouldnt stop.Being in public, in settings large and small especially on college campuses was essential to Charlies power and reach. He chatted up conservatives and debated liberals. When Charlie was involved, conservatism felt fun and exciting again. On Wednesday, an assassins bullet robbed us of his voice and robbed his family of a father and husband. The only solace in this gut-wrenching moment is that he died doing what he loved and what God put him on this Earth to do. Among the millions of young people he inspired, we hope in time there will be new voices who will take up his mantle.Charlie would have wanted that.CHARLIE KIRK DIED AS HE LIVED: BOLD, UNASHAMED AND ANCHORED IN FAITHBecause of his traditional views and his growing following online and on campus, the hard left despised him. Charlie was a direct threat to progressives stranglehold on young minds. Charlie was traditional and pragmatic, but he was also eternally optimistic about America.Charlies enthusiasm for the future was infectious. If you started watching his video debates, appearances on Fox or listening to his podcast, you were hooked whether you agreed with him or not. You got why he connected. No one other than President Donald Trump himself in recent memory has had a more profound effect on the political thinking of young Americans than he did.A few months ago, my 15-year-old son was watching something on his computer while we were on a flight he was supposed to be reading. I was annoyed. But then I saw that it was a Charlie Kirk video, and I was relieved. "Mom, shush! Im watching him take on this liberal!"I took a photo of Niko and texted it to Charlie. Of course, he loved it.And when my daughter Maria heard Charlie was bringing his college tour to Texas A&M last spring, she was over the moon. Charlie brought her friends backstage. He recorded a video of all of them and sent it to me. "Shes doing well! Not getting into any trouble, so dont worry!"Those same smiling girls are now devastated. It feels like a member of their family has been murdered because they grew up with him. His presence was ubiquitous. Seeing the prayer vigils held in his honor and the church services being held coast to coast in his memory would have made Charlie very happy. I can almost hear his voice: "Another powerful sign, Laura! Were winning!"CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONWatching him mature from a lanky teenager to a man and then to a political and cultural icon was itself a gift. But the personal side of Charlie was even better.Five years ago in Jackson, Wyoming, Charlie introduced me to Ericka Lane Frantzve, the woman who would become his wife. He and I had both been featured speakers at an event earlier in the day, and he was a guest that night on "The Angle." We went to a local joint for a late dinner.Always teasing him, I asked what a gorgeous girl like her saw in a geeky right-winger like him. We laughed a lot that night. They were both beaming and in love. Their values lined up on all the big issues wise beyond their years. This agony we are all feeling must not dissipate into a stubborn apathy or morph into violent rage. That would be a gross insult to Charlies memory. Dont give the left-wing haters celebrating his death that gift. Instead, lets honor this beautiful young man by continuing to engage with our fellow Americans, by proudly standing for our values and by never retreating in the face of threats or intimidation. We have a lot of work to do.Rest in peace, Charlie.CLICK HERE FOR MORE FROM LAURA INGRAHAM

WATCH: Bipartisan group of lawmakers express shock, grief after Charlie Kirk's killing
Republican and Democrat lawmakers alike mourned the "horrific" sudden fatal shooting of conservative leader Charlie Kirk on Wednesday.Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., praised Kirks faith and positive message to young people, saying he "leaves a huge legacy.""It's going to be hard for anybody to fill his shoes," she said. "He's extremely important. Students all over the country would get very excited if they found out he was coming to their college campus. He brought in thousands of people to hear him speak. Even people that didn't agree with him would come, ask questions, even argue with him.""He would go on college campuses and tell young people to get married and have children and just talk about how wonderful it is to be married and to have children," she went on. "He shared the word of God. He was a Christian, and he shared the gospel of Jesus Christ, and encouraged young people."VANCE SHARES HOW HE LEARNED CHARLIE KIRK WAS GUNNED DOWN DURING WEST WING MEETINGGreene added that she believes Kirk was "killed for the words that he says and the things that he stood for.""He was always about the debate and Charlie Kirk was never for violence and to see him murdered in such a graphic way in front of the camera and that video is too gruesome," said Greene."We're honestly shocked, we're devastated," she said, adding, "I'm at a loss for words and I'm not often at a loss for words."Democrats have also expressed grief over Kirks passing. Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., said, "It's awful. It's absolutely awful.""I'm sorry for his family. There's no room for political violence in our country and we all can do more to just condemn it and hopefully that's the antidote to it, but it's awful, period," said Swalwell.MESSAGES FOUND ON CHARLIE KIRK ASSASSIN'S GUN, SOURCES SAYAsked whether he was concerned about the safety of other political figures and members of Congress, Swalwell said, "We don't have enough resources to protect the people who are threatened around here. But I don't want to make it about us right now. This is just, it's awful.""It has no room in our politics, and we can't normalize political violence," he added.Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Wisc., blamed Kirks death on the media and Democrats who he accused of "fueling the political violence.""Every single member of that party that is putting out politically violent statements, and so many of them have, should be censured and they should be removed from every single one of their committees or more people are going to die," Orden fired."This didn't have to happen. It did not," he added. "But it happened because of the violent political rhetoric coming out of the left being amplified by you people in the press. You are partially responsible for this. For both the assassination attempts for President Trump and for Charlie Kirk being shot."SPEAKER JOHNSON ADDRESSES HOW A PRAYER IN CONGRESS 'TURNED INTO AN ARGUMENT'Pressed on whether both sides of the political aisle share in the responsibility for the ongoing spate of political violence, especially in light of the recent shootings of two Minnesota Democratic lawmakers and their spouses, Orden answered, "Its horrible, I said the same thing.""Let's quit convoluting this issue. The vast majority, by orders of magnitudes, of the politically violent speech is coming out of the left. Period. So, until these people stop doing that, and until you stop trying to drive wedges between Republicans and Democrats and everyday Americans, this is going to happen again and again and again," he said."So, every single one of you people needs to go home tonight and do some deep soul-searching. There's a dead man who left two kids in a widow because of you," Van Orden added.

GOP triggers nuclear option in Senate to break Dem blockade of Trump nominees
After an attempt to secure a bipartisan deal failed, Senate Republicans went nuclear for the fourth time in the Senates history on Thursday to speed up confirmation of President Donald Trumps nominees.Republicans had threatened turning to the "nuclear option," which would allow for a rule change with a simple majority vote, to blast through the blockade from Senate Democrats and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. Lawmakers were frustrated that through the first nine months of Trumps presidency, not a single nominee had moved through fast-track unanimous consent or voice votes.SENATE GOP HURTLES TOWARD NUCLEAR OPTION AFTER DEAL WITH DEMS FALLS APARTThe GOPs rule change, which was born from a revived Democratic proposal from 2023, will now allow lawmakers to vote on Trumps nominees in batches.Senate Republicans rule change, which has been pitched as beneficial to the current and future administrations, would only apply to nominees that are subject to the Senates requirement for two hours of debate, which includes sub-Cabinet-level positions and executive branch picks.Judicial nominees, like district court judges and district attorneys, dont fall under the rule change. Lawmakers are expected to plow through dozens of nominees early next week under the new rules with the intent of clearing the backlog of Trump's picks, which grew to more than 140 and counting.DEMS DIG IN AS GOP PREPARES TO GO NUCLEAR IN TRUMP NOMINEE RACEHowever, before resorting to the nuclear option, lawmakers were close to a bipartisan deal that would have allowed for 15 nominees to be voted on in groups with two hours of debate.Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, blocked the new proposal on the floor, and argued that Senate Republicans were trying to rush through the negotiating process ahead of their plan to leave Washington for the weekend."What they're asking for is unanimity, and we don't have it," he said. "And so, if you're interested in enacting this on a bipartisan basis, the process for doing that it is available to you. But again, it's more a matter of running out of patience than running out of time."TRUMP NOMINEES PILE UP AS GOP WEIGHS RULE SHIFT ONCE FLOATED BY DEMOCRATSA frustrated Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., fired back, "How much time is enough?""Give me a break," he said. "Two years. Not long enough. How about eight months? Eight months of this."The nuclear process began earlier this week when Thune teed up 48 nominees, all of which moved through committee on a bipartisan basis, for confirmation on the floor."It's time to move," Thune said. "Time to quit stalling. Time to vote. It's time to fix this place. And the ideal way to fix it would be in a bipartisan way."Both parties have turned to the nuclear option a handful of times since 2010. In 2013, then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., used the nuclear option to allow for all executive branch nominees to be confirmed by simple majority.Four years later, then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., went nuclear to allow for Supreme Court nominees to be confirmed by a simple majority. And in 2019, McConnell reduced the debate time to two hours for civilian nominees.

ESPN's Pat McAfee speaks out after Charlie Kirk's assassination: 'Pivotal moment' for America
Pat McAfee was among those with ties to the sports world who spoke out after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The former Indianapolis Colts punter and current media personality said Kirk's name was "synonymous with having the courage to speak what you believe and seek/welcome conversations with those whom you disagree with."While McAfee cautioned he was not inherently political, he added that events that took place on the Utah Valley University campus left him startled and distressed.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"Im not a political person, but I am a proud American citizen and today was startling, saddening, and maddening all at the same time..," McAfee wrote on X. So, when I learned of Charlie Kirk on the internet once again, I did not meet him, I did not know him personally I thought it was admirable to hear somebody who was so firm in their own beliefs but wanted to hear why other people were against him."So, yesterday, whenever we see a public execution of this man happen in all of the palms of our hands in real time you can't help but wonder first of all, he has family, he has kids. But, also, are we a society that's really going to become that? Is that who we are? Is that what we're going to be? Just strictly because we think that we're better than the other side? It's become a wild time, I think, in our existence. Democratic lawmaker demands Trump rescind Jan. 6 pardons in response to Kirk assassination
Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., demanded that President Donald Trump rescind Jan. 6 pardons in response toCharlie Kirks assassination."If the president is serious about stopping political violence, then maybe he should start by rescinding the pardons for all the domestic terrorists who came to the Capitol on Jan. 6 to kill cops, to kill Speaker Pelosi, to kill, to kill Vice President Pence," Moulton said Thursday on "CNN News Central" during a conversation with Kate Bolduan.Kirk wasshot and killed Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University during hisAmerican Comeback Tour. The suspect remains at large. Authorities said they recovered a high-powered bolt-action rifle and obtained clear video of the shooter, who reportedly jumped from a building and ran off campus into a nearby neighborhood.COMPLETE COVERAGE OF CHARLIE KIRK"Lets have an honest conversation about the origins of this political violence and why it has risen so dramatically since Donald Trumps first term," Moulton said. "We need to have that conversation if we're serious about stopping it."Asked by Bolduan if he believes the political temperature can be brought down, Moulton said Republicans are not doing enough to condemn violence."Only if we all look ourselves in the mirror, and Im happy to stand here as a Democrat and absolutely condemn the violence on the left,"Moulton said. "I have no hesitation in doing so."But people like Warren Davidson andDonald Trump need to condemn the violence on the right as well," he added. "Not defend the attackers on Jan. 6. "Of extremist violent attacks in America, extremist violence, violent murders, 76% are from right-wing extremists, 4% are from left-wing extremists. I condemn that 4%. But we also need to be honest about as a nation about where this violence is coming from."And oh, by the way, it's probably an appropriate time to talk about guns, too. You hear a lot of conservatives saying, Hey, the only thing we need to do here is get more guns on the street. That's not going to solve this problem, that's going to make it worse."White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson responded to Moulton, telling Fox News Digital, "Words cannot describe how truly disgusting it is that, less than 24 hours after the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, a Democrat politician got on TV to point fingers at Republicans and President Trump. He should be ashamed."CHARLIE KIRK SHOOTING LEADS TO OUTPOURING FROM UTAH OFFICIALS, 2025 NOMS ON BOTH SIDESFox News Digital reached out to Rep.
