A South Carolina man on death row believes judges who rule against him are guided by Satan and that most laws are unconstitutional, he wrote in handwritten legal papers, as he seeks to avoid being put to death after his execution was delayed earlier this year.Steven Bixby, 58, was set to die in May for the killing of two police officers before the state Supreme Court stepped in and stopped his execution so it could be determined if he is mentally competent. A lower court was asked to evaluate if his lawyers were unable to defend him because of his beliefs.A psychologist previously said Bixby understands what led to his death sentence, but that he also believes blood found on his clothes the night of the killings contains the DNA of Jesus Christ.Bixby was convicted of the 2003 killing of two police officers who came to his home in Abbeville County to discuss a land dispute between his family and a construction crew that had come to widen the road. His parents were also charged with murder but have since died.SOUTH CAROLINA DEATH ROW INMATE INVOKES 'SOVEREIGN CITIZSEN' DEFENSE IN BID TO AVOID EXECUTIONIn December of that year, Bixby shot Abbeville County deputy Danny Wilson as the officer knocked on the front door of his parents' home, a day after they threatened the road crew, according to officials.Wilson's dying body was pulled inside the home by the family and restrained with his own handcuffs. The Bixbys then killed state Constable Donnie Ouzts as he and other officers responded to the home because Wilson had been missing for an hour, leading to a 12-hour standoff as officers and the family fired hundreds of shots at each other, investigators said.Lawyers for Bixby argued at a hearing last month that he is convinced the U.S. legal system is unconstitutional and wrong, and refuses to share information needed to help him avoid execution. Prosecutors contended that Bixby's anti-government beliefs are shared by others and that he understands why the state wants to end his life.At the hearing, Circuit Judge R. Scott Sprouse gave Bixby ten minutes to speak and promised a ruling in 30 days, but Bixby later said he was not offered enough time to address the court.Bixby spent part of his speaking time arguing that Wilson was killed because he was attempting to take his family's land."I'm just tired of this tragedy. Bixby wrote.While Bixby's motion includes some legal phrases, it does not offer any reasoning accepted by judges before."I've proven & the prosecution has admitted through the omission & admission under rule 24a & 55.2 of the charges against them since 12/05/03 (to whom it may concern letter) the Bixbys 'total innocence.' Set me free!" he wrote.Bixby also suggested the judge would commit treason if he failed to stop his execution and free him from custody."I am an innocent man!! "Like Thomas Jefferson: I am standing on principle even if I stand alone."Bixby was out of regular appeals when the state Supreme Court halted his execution in March.The court said that Bixby would be considered competent to be executed under federal law because he understands his crime led to his death sentence, but noted that state law requires an additional finding that death row inmates be able to rationally communicate with their lawyers.An expert called by Bixby's lawyers at last month's hearing said the isolation of prison has only made his beliefs more delusional and that Bixby is stuck in his mindset.The state's expert said that while Bixby's beliefs may make him a difficult client, it does not make him impossible to defend and that he views himself in some ways as a martyr prepared to die for his beliefs.The Associated Press contributed to this report.

On Sept. 4, Austin officials unveiled the citys first-ever unified brand logo as part of a $1.1 million rebranding project, but the new wavy blue and green "A" has already sparked backlash from residents and critics who compared it to a math textbook publishers logo.Rep. Chip Roy, R-Tex., blasted the project during an appearance on The Will Cain Show saying city leaders "want to go spend a million dollars on a rebrand, get rid of a cross and make it some sort of, you know, a woke-looking band emblem."He accused the Texas city officials of prioritizing symbolism over safety. "We have people in Austin who dont get their 911 calls answered. You have people that have seen an increase in crime in Austin because they were going after, gutting and cutting the police force."The rebrand dates back to 2018, when the City Council voted to establish a "consistent and clear brand" across city departments. FIRST ON FOX: DENVER Genetic genealogists working on the University of Idaho student murders case found "hundreds of times" more DNA than a typical case as they raced to solve the quadruple stabbing, which rocked the college town of Moscow, Idaho, as well as the nation as a whole."It was a catastrophic deal," said David Mittelman, the Othram founder and CEO whose work generated leads that helped authorities track Kohberger from a DNA sample he left on a Ka-Bar knife sheath discarded at the crime scene. "That's why the defense didn't want to talk about it."Not only did police recover plenty of DNA to work with, it allowed Othram's investigators to hone in on Kohberger's family tree almost immediately.BRYAN KOHBERGER PLEADED GUILTY TO IDAHO STUDENT MURDERS, BUT THESE KEY QUESTIONS REMAIN UNANSWEREDSpeaking with Fox News Digital at CrimeCon's 2025 conference in Denver, Mittelman said that while their early leads didn't include his identity, the DNA showed that the sample came from a "multigenerational" American family mixed with Italian ancestry.The genetic genealogy pointed to a multigenerational Pennsylvania family that intersected with Italian heritage only twice.It was more than "trace" DNA, too."The DNA evidence was amazing," David Mittleman said. "There was tons of DNA by the wayI don't know why it's been reported It was traced DNA. It was not. It was tons of DNA."IDAHO VICTIMS' FAMILIES TO ADDRESS KILLER DIRECTLY AT KOHBERGER SENTENCINGNot only that, but it was also of high caliber, he added."There was certainty in the quality of the DNA, there was certainty in the analysis, and there was certainty that there was more than enough information in that [family] tree to get to a person," he said.Separately, police had identified a suspect vehicle -- a white Hyundai Elantra just like the one Kohberger drove. He was from Pennsylvania but was attending Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, at the time of the murders. That's just 10 miles from the crime scene.READ BRYAN KOHBERGER'S SIGNED KILLER CONFESSIONWhile police did not find a murder weapon, they did find a Ka-Bar knife sheath next to Madison Mogen, 21, one of the four victims. After they identified Kohberger as a suspect, they got a search warrant for his Amazon activity and discovered that he purchased a Ka-Bar knife, with sheath and sharpening, on the shopping app.The other victims were Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21.They were killed on Nov. 13, 2022. Othram received the DNA sample on Thanksgiving and worked through the holiday, generating a DNA profile within 48 hours. On Dec. 19, the FBI sent Moscow police Kohberger's name. On Dec. 30, police shocked the world when they announced an arrest in the case after a raid on Kohberger's parents' house in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains.Detectives on the case told reporters after Kohberger's guilty plea that without the DNA evidence, they believe they would have eventually found him by examining thousands of leads regarding Hyundai Elantras.BRYAN KOHBERGER ACCEPTS PLEA DEAL IN IDAHO STUDENT MURDERS CASEIt's unclear how long that would have taken.Although police recovered an ample sample from the snap on the sheath, Kohberger's DNA wasn't in the government's Combined DNA Index System, known as CODIS, because he hadn't been implicated in any prior crimes.The investigative genetic genealogy helped investigators find him with the sample anyway. And it turned out to be a key part of their case. Jeff Nye, chief of the criminal division at the Idaho Attorney Generals Office who was tasked with arguing in court against Kohberger's attempt to have the evidence tossed, told Fox News Digital last month that "everything hinged" on his performance in court that day.He won. After Kohberger's defense failed to have the DNA evidence tossed, he entered a surprise guilty plea in early July in order to avoid the potential death penalty.Kristen Mittelman, Othram's chief development officer, believes that the genealogy techniques should be applied to more cases."We are advocating with the families to change that, to make sure that people have access to this real time so that people like Kohberger are caught before they commit that next crime," she told Fox News Digital. "I'm certain that there's someone at Thanksgiving with their family this year, last year, they wouldn't be if Bryan Kohberger wasn't caught in real time."Kohberger is serving four consecutive life sentences, plus another 10 years. He waived his right to appeal and to seek a future sentence reduction under Idaho law.

The Los Angeles Chargers are winners in Brazil to start the 2025 NFL season, as they took down the Kansas City Chiefs, 27-21, on Friday night.The Chiefs had won the previous seven matchups against their AFC West rival, but Justin Herbert and the Chargers were done with that streak as they played nearly flawless football in So Paulo, Brazil.The Chiefs lost a key player on offense just three plays into the game, as Xavier Worthy collided with Travis Kelce and suffered a shoulder injury that knocked him out the rest of the game. Mahomes led the way, going 80 yards in 11 plays where he would scamper into the end zone for the Chiefs first touchdown of the season.But Herbert and the Chargers would respond, running a 12-play drive that took up almost eight minutes of clock where he found his old friend Keenan Allen, who resigned with Los Angeles this offseason, for the touchdown to make it 20-12.The fourth quarter was the most thrilling in this Brazilian bout, as Travis Kelce sprung free for a 37-yard touchdown catch-and-run for his first score of the year. That made it 20-18, as the Chiefs failed to convert their two-point try.All the momentum was with Kansas City, but once again, the Chargers responded against their divisional foe. Herbert ran to his right on the Kansas City 23-yard line and slung a sidearm pass to Johnston for his second touchdown of the game.The 27-18 gap was needed midway through the fourth quarter, as Mahomes would launch a 49-yard pass on the run to Marquise "Hollywood" Brown on fourth-and-7 to put the Chiefs in the red zone. They had to settle for a field goal, but they were within a touchdown and needed a stop on defense.But the story of this game was Herbert doing exactly what was needed to respond to the Chiefs, and he did so on a crucial third-and-14, scrambling outside the pocket and going 19 yards to seal the win in Brazil.Herbert was phenomenal for the Chargers, as he went 25-for-34 for 318 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Johnston finished with 79 yards on five catches, while Ladd McConkey had six catches for 74 yards. Allen also had seven catches for 68 yards and a score.For the Chiefs, Mahomes went 24-for-39 through the air for 258 yards and a touchdown, while leading the team on the ground with 57 yards rushing on six carries. The Kansas City Chiefs were just three plays into their 2025 season opener in Brazil when they lost one of Patrick Mahomes' key offensive weapons.Wide receiver Xavier Worthy was ruled out for the remainder of the game against the Los Angeles Chargers with a shoulder injury and friendly fire is what took him out.Worthy was running a short route on third down, as was tight end Travis Kelce, when they collided into each other.
