In a political age where imagery shapes public opinion, Biden looked feeble, distant and disconnected. Fat-blocking microbeads made with green tea, vitamin E and seaweed could offer a new way to lose weight and a potential alternative to popular GLP-1 drugs and bariatric surgery, according to exploratory new research.While human trials are still needed, scientists in China found that rats fed a high-fat diet lost about 17% of their body weight when given the edible microbeads. The rats also saw reduced fat tissue, alleviated liver damage and lower blood fat levels compared to animals that did not receive the beads."Our work provides a basis for novel dietary strategies to combat obesity," the Sichuan University researchers wrote in the study, published in the journal Cell Biomaterials.GUT HEALTH AT STAKE AS RESEARCHERS PUT BEEF AND CHICKEN TO THE TESTObesity affects nearly 890 million adults globally. It's the fourth leading cause of death, the research team noted."The overconsumption of dietary fat is the key contributor to obesity, associated with Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke and malignant cancers," the researchers wrote, adding that restricting dietary fat is emerging as a promising solution."Losing weight can help some people prevent long-term health issues like diabetes and heart disease," Yue Wu, one of the study's authors, said in a news release from the American Chemical Society (ACS). "Our microbeads work directly in the gut to block fat absorption in a noninvasive and gentle way."The team set out to develop something that aligns with how people "normally eat and live," she added.WEIGHT LOSS TOUGHER WITH ULTRA-PROCESSED FOODS LURKING IN NEARLY EVERY MEAL, SAY EXPERTSWu presented the team's results at the ACS fall digital meeting in August.The beads are made from green tea polyphenols antioxidants in tea leaves combined with vitamin E to bind to fat droplets in the gut and block their absorption. A seaweed-derived coating protects the beads from stomach acid.The nearly flavorless beads could be integrated into everyday foods, according to the ACS, and even formed into tapioca-like balls for desserts or bubble teas.WHY OZEMPIC USERS 'CAN BARELY FINISH A THIRD' OF THEIR RESTAURANT ORDERSDuring the 30-day experiment, rats on a diet comprised of 60% fat far higher than the 35% to 40% typically seen in human diets excreted more fat after eating the microbeads, but without side effects or blood sugar fluctuations.Compared to orlistat, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved fat-blocking drug, the beads produced similar levels of fat excretion but avoided the gastrointestinal issues observed in the study.Orlistat can cause digestive problems because unabsorbed fat passes into and lingers in the colon. Victims of the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein will go in front of cameras on Wednesday, as the controversy over Epstein-related files reignites with Congress back in Washington this week.The victims are scheduled to join Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California and Republican Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky amid a bipartisan push by members of Congress to release files related to the federal investigation of Epstein, who died in prison six years ago while awaiting federal charges related to sex trafficking,Khanna said that "people are going to be outraged" after seeing the news conference.The news conference is part of the effort by Khanna and Massie to pass through the House a procedural motion known as a discharge petition, which could force a House vote urging the Justice Department to release the Epstein files.KHANNA ON EPSTEIN VICTIMS NEWS CONFERENCE: PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE OUTRAGEDOn the eve of the news conference, the House committee that's been investigating the Epstein files released thousands of documents related to the case that the Justice Department had handed over to lawmakers.The surprise document dump of nearly 34,000 pages by the House Oversight Committee included a Justice Department interview with one-time Epstein partner Ghislaine Maxwell, and videos that appear to show the inside of Epstein's Palm Beach, Florida home.THOUSANDS OF EPSTEIN DOCUMENTS SUDDENLY RELEASED"This is the most thorough investigation into Epstein and Maxwell to date, and we are getting results," Oversight Committee chair Rep. In court, he regretted that error, declaring that he had hoped his victims were Jews, as if this would mitigate his crime to justifiable homicide. Providing intervention to Catholic and Jew alike, I then trained a team of interventionists whose trauma-induced hope was to be prepared for subsequent attacks.Following a shooting at a Jewish school in another community, I provided "debriefing" to the faculty and students. The husband of one teacher, non-Jewish, insisted that she resign, fearing that at the next attack there, she might be mistaken for a Jew.Access to weaponry, internet games touting bloodshed, massive marches calling for death to Jews: we witness indoctrination of Americans and proliferation of violent attacks. I deal daily with old and young Jewish people terrified to leave home. The risks are real, as are their legitimate fears.When children cannot talk about what is happening, unwilling to report antisemitic incidents, fearing blame, shame or disinterest, silence isolates them, deepening trauma. Clinical research with victims of hatred shows that when distress is unexpressed, major emotional, psychological and even physiological symptoms emerge. A Michigan college student was shot to death by her ex-boyfriend over the weekend, following months of reported stalking as the victim attempted to obtain a restraining order.Sarah Carroll, 20, was killed by her ex-boyfriend, identified as "Lincoln," on Saturday night at theWoodland Villa Apartments, located approximately 25 miles from Detroit, according to FOX 2.The man reportedly shot Carroll to death before calling authorities to admit to the killing.
