New ICE detention facility 'Louisiana Lockup' opens at notorious prison
FIRST ON FOX A new Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility dubbed "Louisiana Lockup" is now open at the notorious Louisiana State Penitentiary to house some of the "worst of the worst" criminal illegal migrants.Fifty-one migrants have already been moved to the facility, a Department of Homeland Security official told Fox News. The prison, known as Angola prison, sits on 18,000 acres, and was once named the "bloodiest prison in the South"for its harsh conditions. According to the Angola Museum, the prison earned the nickname in 1962 because stabbings became so common. Inmates sued the state in the early 1970s over the harsh conditions, and a federal court mandated reform.DHS PLANS 'CORNHUSKER CLINK' DETENTION CENTER AS TRUMP EXPANDS IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENTThe Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is partnering with Louisiana to use a portion of the prison to expand detention space by 416 beds. The funding comes from the "One Big Beautiful Bill," which allows ICE to add 80,000 new detention beds to help ramp up deportations. The detainees will be housed in an unused section called Camp J, which was once known as the "Dungeon" because most of the cells were used for solitary confinement. In late July, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry declared a state emergency to allow expedited repairs of Camp J."Louisiana Lockup"is the latest facility to be converted into anICE detention facility, after "Alligator Alcatraz" in Florida, "Cornhusker Clink" In Nebraska and "Speedway Slammer" in Indiana.LAWSUITS THREATEN TO UPEND ALLIGATOR ALCATRAZ OPERATIONS"Today, we're announcing a new partnership with the state of Louisiana to expand detention space," Secretary Kristi Noem said."Thank you to Governor Landry for his partnership to help remove the worst of the worst out of our country. Portland mayor doubles down on sanctuary status after violent anti-ICE riot
Portland Mayor Keith Wilson is reaffirming his citys commitment to sanctuary policies in the wake of another night of violence outside a local U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)facility.Wilson, a Democrat, vowed that local police would not aid ICE and said hes working with Portland police to determine a response to the violent Labor Day clashes outside the South Macadam Avenue facility, the latest in a series of ugly incidents at the site over the last few months as agitators push back against federal immigration enforcement.Anti-ICE protesterswere captured on video rolling out a guillotine and clashing with police before law enforcement fired munitions to disperse the crowd.ANTI-ICE PORTLAND RIOTERS WITH GUILLOTINE CLASH WITH POLICE IN WAR-LIKE SCENES"But we will not engage with the federal immigration enforcement that goes on," Wilson told KOIN 6 News. "That is our sanctuary city goals; that is what the governors goals are. So you can rest assured we wont be engaging with or working with ICE in any circumstances."The mayor outlined how his administration is coordinating with state and federal allies to manage potential clashes."We are really working with everybody in the city, were working with our congressional delegates, were working on what we can do to protect our citizens responsibly, to protect Portlanders," Wilson said. "We have tabletop exercises to determine what our next responses are to this overreach and overreaction."PORTLAND ANTI-ICE RIOT CRUSHED BY FEDERAL AGENTSTabletop exercises are discussions in which participants work through scenarios to test emergency response plans, per KOIN 6 News. The Portland Police Bureau said it was not involved in what happened outside the ICE facility on Labor Day night, per the outlet. In July, Portlands progressive-leaning city council said it was exploring ways to expel ICEfrom the detention facility that has become a flashpoint for violent clashes between agents and radical agitators.Chaotic scenes have been unfolding outside the facility since June, including in one incidentwhere a large group of anti-ICE protesters tried to block law enforcement vehicles from entering and exiting the facility, forcing agents to deploy rubber bullets, tear gas and flash bangs to disperse the crowd.Footage that emerged from overnight Monday purportedly showed demonstrators burning a flag before law enforcement fired munitions to disperse the crowd.Video then showedpolice clearing out the area, with the protesters yelling through loudspeakers, "You are sad excuses for human beings!" and "You guys are violent, cowardly pigs!"At least two protesters were seen wielding riot shields to protect against the munitions being fired at them. It is unclear if any arrests were made during the incident. "We are seeinghistoric threats against ICE officers, but that is not going to deter us," ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan told "Fox & Friends" Tuesday when asked about the clashes."We will continue to go after these criminals, these alien criminals that have wreaked havoc on the American people over the last four years, and we will continue to support our ICE officers, making sure they have the tools and resources they need to be successful. We will work with them to protect their family, whether its from doxxing or the threats that we see against them on a daily basis," Sheahan added.Fox News Greg Norman contributed to this report.

'English isn't optional': Senate GOP bill takes aim at illegal immigrant truckers after Florida crash
FIRST ON FOX: A Senate Republican wants to beef up federal laws for commercial driver's licenses after a deadly collision in Florida that killed three people.Sen. Ashley Moody, R-Fla., intends to introduce legislation that would crack down on commercial driver's licenses (CDLs) going to illegal immigrants and bolster English proficiency requirements to get a commercial license."If youre a commercial truck driver in America, being able to competently read the road signs in English isnt optional its the job," Moody said in a statement to Fox News Digital.BLUE STATES DEFLECT BLAME IN TRUMP PROBE AFTER ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT TRUCKER CRASH KILLS 3 IN FLORIDAMoodys bill, the Safer Truckers Act of 2025, comes on the heels of a tragedy in Florida.Harjinder Singh, an illegal immigrant from India, allegedly struck and killed three people in a tractor-trailer while making an illegal U-turn on a Florida highway on Aug. 12. The trailer jackknifed and collided with a minivan, killing all three of its passengers. Singh held a CDL from California and was previously licensed by the state of Washington.BLUE STATE INVESTIGATES HOW ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT TRUCKER GOT LICENSE BEFORE DEADLY FLORIDA CRASHHe was charged with three counts of vehicular homicide and three counts of manslaughter. Some states allow migrants to obtain a regular drivers license regardless of citizenship status, but CDLs are governed by federal law, which stipulates that proof of being a lawful permanent resident or an Employment Authorization Document are required to get a commercial license.Fox News Digital reached out to the offices of Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif, and Gov. Bob Ferguson, D-Wash., for comment but did not immediately hear back.EXPERT REVEALS HOW ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT TRUCKER MAY HAVE GOTTEN COMMERCIAL LICENSE BEFORE FATAL FLORIDA CRASHMoodys bill would ensure that CDLs are only awarded to U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, or holders of a valid work visa. It would also codify requirements for states to report their efforts to uphold English proficiency requirements in line with President Donald Trumps executive order from earlier this year requiring agencies to enforce such provisions.Federal investigators said Singh had failed English proficiency and road sign tests prior to the collision. Should states not enforce English proficiency requirements, their eligibility for federal funding could be jeopardized."States must ensure that folks are safe on our roadways, and if they dont, they should forfeit federal funding," Moody said.
