WWW.FOXNEWS.COMHUD chief moves to make English the sole language for all agency business following Trump orderThe Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is moving to make English the sole language used for all agency business, Secretary Scott Turner said Tuesday. The move is in line with President Donald Trump's executive order in March to make English the official language of the United States."Following @POTUS Executive Order Designating English as the Official Language of The United States, HUD will solely use English for all Departmental business and services," Turner wrote Tuesday on X. "We are one people, united, and we will speak with one voice and one language to deliver on our mission."TOP TRUMP OFFICIAL VOWS TO END 'CYCLE OF GOVERNMENT DEPENDENCY' IN HOMELESS CRACKDOWNFox News Digital has reached out to HUD.In a memo sent out Monday, HUD deputy secretary Andrew Hughes advised department leadership of the changes, the New York Post reported."We are one people, united, and we will speak with one voice and one language to deliver on our mission of expanding housing that is affordable, helping those in need, caring for our most vulnerable Americans, and revitalizing rural, tribal, and urban communities," he wrote.HUD previously touted that it accommodated around 222 languages and had an interpretation line for individuals unable to speak English proficiently, the Post reported.Despite the shift, HUD will make accommodations to offer other languages required under the Americans with Disability Act and the Violence Against Women Act.'IT WON'T BE LONG': HUD SECRETARY SHARES VIDEO OF DILAPIDATED ROOF TILES AT HQ AMID BID TO MOVE IT OUTSIDE DC"HUD will continue to ensure that all persons have meaningful access to HUD programs and services," Hughes wrote, saying the department also "will continue to provide communication services to the hearing and seeing impaired, and persons with related disabilities."In previous years, HUD made efforts to offer services in various languages to low-income immigrants who weren't proficient in English. In March, Trump issued an executive order that revoked an order issued in 2000 by former President Bill Clinton that required federal agencies and recipients of federal funding to provide language assistance to non-English speakers.Despite English being the dominant language spoken in the United States, the U.S. has never had an official language.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP"A nationally designated language is at the core of a unified and cohesive society, and the United States is strengthened by a citizenry that can freely exhange ideas in one shared language," Trump wrote in his order.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 18 Views 0 Vista previa

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMCalifornia Republicans sue to stop Newsom, Democrats from pushing redistricting planCalifornia Republicans are urging the state's Supreme Court to stop Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democrats from quickly moving forward with their push to redraw congressional districts to add up to five left-leaning seats in the heavily blue state.Four GOP state lawmakers filed a lawsuit on Tuesday in California's Supreme Court to stop the Democrat-dominated state legislature from holding a vote by the end of this week to advance the redistricting push."Today I joined my colleagues in filing a lawsuit challenging the rushed redistricting process. Californias Constitution requires bills to be in print for 30 days, but that safeguard was ignored. By bypassing this provision, Sacramento has effectively shut voters out of engaging in their own legislative process," Republican state assembly member Tri Ta wrote in a social media post. The move by the GOP lawmakers is the latest development in the high-stakes battle between Republicans and Democrats in California and in Texas over congressional redistricting ahead of next year's midterm elections.CALIFORNIA UNVEILS NEW CONGRESSONAL MAPS TO WIPE OUT FIVE GOP-CONTROLLED SEATS AND COUNTER TRUMPIn Austin, Texas, the GOP-dominated state House of Representatives on Wednesday resumed meeting amid a second straight special session called by conservative Republican Gov. Greg Abbott. As they return to work, they're expected to pass a GOP-crafted redistricting map that would create up to five Republican-leaning congressional districts at the expense of currently Democrat-controlled seats in the red state.REDISTRICTING BATTLE: FLEEING TEXAS DEMOCRATS RETURN HOME"Please pass this Map, ASAP. THANK YOU TEXAS," President Donald Trump wrote in a social media post on Monday. The Republican push in Texas, which comes at Trump's urging, is part of a broader effort by the GOP across the country to pad their razor-thin House majority to keep control of the chamber in the 2026 midterms, when the party in power traditionally faces political headwinds and loses seats.Trump and his political team are aiming to prevent what happened during his first term in the White House, when Democrats stormed back to grab the House majority in the 2018 midterm elections.Republicans in Texas enjoy a supermajority in the legislature and the state Senate passed the new congressional maps last week, during the first special legislative session. But Republicans in the Texas House were prevented from holding votes on the new map for two weeks, as dozens of Democratic state representatives fled the state to deny the GOP a quorum in the Texas House.Democratic lawmakers in Texas pledge to take their fight to court after the maps are passed by the legislature and signed into law by Abbott, which is expected in the coming days. While the Republican push in Texas to upend the current congressional maps doesn't face constitutional constraints, the path for Newsom and Democrats in California is much more complicated. The governor is moving to hold a special election this year, to obtain voter approval to undo the constitutional amendments that created the non-partisan redistricting commission.A two-thirds majority vote in the Democrat-dominated California legislature would be needed to hold the referendum, and Democrats in Sacramento on Monday unveiled a bill to move forward with the referendum. But the emergency petition filed on Tuesday by the state Republican lawmakers argues that the California Constitution prevents the legislature from acting on redistricting bills until next month, because a 30-day review period is needed for new legislation. The lawsuit was filed as the California Assembly Elections Committee held a hearing Tuesday on the push for the referendum. GOP lawmakers on the committee and Republicans who submitted comments to the panel heavily criticized the Democrats' redistricting effort. The California Republican Party on Tuesday called the move by the Democrats an "unconstitutional redistricting power grab" and argued that "Republicans, Democrats, and Independents know what Gavin Newsom and the Democrats are doing is wrong."But Newsom this week argued that "California and Californians have been uniquely targeted by the Trump Administration, and we are not going to sit idle while they command Texas and other states to rig the next election to keep power pursuing more extreme and unpopular policies."And last week, at an event unveiling the Democrats' redistricting push in California, Newsom charged, "Here we are in open and plain sight before one vote is cast in the 2026 midterm election and here [Trump] is once again trying to rig the system.Newsom is considered a likely contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, and the California GOP claimed that "Newsom is kicking off his shadow presidential campaign by trying to rig and steal Californias independent, bipartisan citizen redistricting process."Last week's event by Newsom also served as a fundraising kickoff to raise massive amounts of campaign cash needed to sell the redistricting push statewide in California. The non-partisan redistricting commission, created over 15 years ago, remains popular with most Californians, according to public opinion polling. That's why Newsom and California Democratic lawmakers are promising not to scrap the commission entirely, but rather replace it temporarily by the legislature for the next three election cycles. The proposed map was submitted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. And Republican former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who represented a congressional district in California's Central Valley for 17 years, argued in an appearance on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures" that "when you think about how they drew these lines, there wasn't one hearing. There is no debate. There's no input. Even the legislature in California doesn't have input. The DCCC is just ending it. That is why we need to stop Newsom's power grab."McCarthy, who is helping to lead the GOP fundraising effort to counter Newsom and California Democrats leading up to the likely referendum this autumn, said that "November 4th will be the election that people could actually have a say," as he pointed to polls showing strong support for the current non-partisan redistricting commission. The push to temporarily replace the commission is also being opposed by other high-profile Republicans. Among the most visible is former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the last Republican elected governor in Democrat-dominated California. The longtime Hollywood action star says he's mobilizing to oppose the push by Newsom to temporarily scrap the state's nonpartisan redistricting commission."Im getting ready for the gerrymandering battle," Schwarzenegger wrote in a social media post Friday, which included a photo of the former professional bodybuilding champion lifting weights.Schwarzenegger, who rose to worldwide fame as the star of the film "The Terminator" four decades ago, wore a T-shirt in the photo that said "terminate gerrymandering."Schwarzenegger, during his tenure as governor, had a starring role in the passage of constitutional amendments in California in 2008 and 2010 that took the power to draw state legislative and congressional districts away from politicians and placed them in the hands of an independent commission.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 18 Views 0 Vista previa

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMTrump didnt cause Russia-Ukraine war, Stephen A. Smith says, blaming Biden, Obama and Clinton in fiery rantESPN host Stephen A. Smith defended President Donald Trump against those who blame him for the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war during a fiery rant on his podcast, "The Stephen A. Smith Show," on Monday.During his defense of Trump, Smith shifted blame onto former Presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton for their actions in the region while they were in office arguing that the major catalysts for this war occurred on their watch."We ain't gonna act like he [Trump] caused this now. It's Democrats in office," Smith asserted. "It was Biden in office when a full-fledged war against Ukraine took place, courtesy of Russia's instigation, no matter what they try to say to Trump."TRUMP SHARES SYMPATHETIC EXCHANGE WITH UKRAINIAN JOURNALIST WHOSE HUSBAND IS FIGHTING IN WARSmith noted that Russia invaded Crimea in 2014 under the Obama administration a conflict that helped fuel the current war in Ukraine. In 2014, the Kremlin annexed the Crimean Peninsula after what Ukrainians refer to as the Revolution of Dignity, when they ousted Moscow-friendly President Viktor Yanukovych. It was a quick and relatively bloodless takeover. Russia flooded the regions with migrants and prevented Ukraine from reclaiming it.The Obama administration provided Ukraine with non-lethal aid, sanctioned the Kremlin and kicked Russia out of the G-8, but some reportedly even including Obamas then-vice president, Biden believed he should have done more. The ESPN host continued his argument, calling the Clinton administration, which, in Smith's view, was responsible for creating a dependence of Ukraine on the United States after the former president played a key role in Ukraine's decision to give up its nuclear weapons in exchange for security assurances in 1994.CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE"It was Clinton in office when you made a deal that disarmed Ukraine, and therefore weakened them, leaving them dependent on the United States," he argued. "And now, here they are having to beg for support that they're owed because of what we promised them as a nation!"Smith continued, pointing out that while he may not like the American taxpayers footing the bill for defending Ukraine, "promises made are supposed to be promises kept.""We promised them this! You owe it to the Ukraine, Ukrainians, you absolutely do. I'm not saying I like it. I'm not saying I like spending billions of our taxpayer dollars to them. That's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is, promises made are supposed to be promises kept!" he exclaimed.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPSmith concluded by rejecting any equivalency between the two warring nations, emphasizing that Ukraines sovereignty was under attack and that they should not be seen as the "villains" in the conflict.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 18 Views 0 Vista previa

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMPhillies broadcaster John Kruk wonders about the creator of the 1st clock during gameFormer Philadelphia Phillies star John Kruk pondered one of lifes biggest questions during the teams game against the Seattle Mariners on Monday night.Kruk, who is the color commentator for NBC Sports Philadelphia, wondered about the creator of the clock.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"So, you know how I think of things when I have free time?" Kruk asked play-by-play man Tom McCarthy. "So, I was wondering. The person who invented the clock, the first clock ever. How did that person know what time it was?"McCarthy said that was a "really good question" as Alec Bohm reached first base on an error by the second baseman in the bottom of the fourth inning. McCarthy then guessed that the person who created the clock might have used a sundial to calculate what time it was."Is that accurate, though?" Kruk asked.PADRES MANAGER MIKE SHILDT EJECTED AFTER HOME RUN IS SHOCKINGLY OVERTURNED IN LOSS TO GIANTSThe former first baseman said he had no answer to his own question and thought he would ask McCarthy in case he had the answer. The inventor of the clock is pretty tricky to pinpoint. Ancient civilizations developed the first timekeeping devices. The first sundials and water clocks were determined to have been used in 1200 B.C. by the ancient Egyptians and Babylonians. Several inventors helped further develop the clock, and most people nowadays have turned to digital devices over analog.Kruk is definitely one to keep asking world questions in the middle of baseball games. WWW.FOXNEWS.COMJustice Barrett teases new memoir in abrupt conference exitSupreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett knows how to command an audience. This was crystallized Monday night at the Swissotel in Chicago, where she spoke for just three minutes to several hundred judges and legal professionals gathered for the Seventh Circuit Judicial Conference. Her remarks, though short, were optimistic and warm. She urged the courts to keep their sense of "camaraderie and professionalism" despite inevitable, sharp disagreements. This, she said, is "what enables the judicial system to work well."Barrett smiled fondly as she remembered her time on the 7th Circuit, where she served for several years prior to her nomination to the Supreme Court. She introduced the next speaker, who took the stage to another standing ovation. And just as quickly as she entered the packed ballroom, she was gone.BARRETT EVISCERATES JACKSON, SOTOMAYOR TAKES ON A 'COMPLICIT' COURT IN CONTENTIOUS FINAL OPINIONSAs the youngest justice on the bench, Barrett's ideology over her nearly five-term tenure on the Supreme Court has been the subject of furious speculation, and at times, just plain fury.Conservatives have panned her record as more moderate than that of the late Justice Antonin Scalia, for whom she once clerked. Liberals have been incensed by her reluctance to side more consistently with the courts left-leaning justices on abortion, federal powers and other seminal cases.Barretts voting record is more moderate than Scalias, according to a June New York Times data analysis that found she plays an "increasingly central role" on the court.Barrett used her time on Monday to implore the group of judges to maintain a sense of grace, decorum, and respect for colleagues, despite the inevitable, heated disagreements that will occur. The warm, if somewhat lofty, sense of idealism on display is one that is expected to be echoed further in her forthcoming memoir, "Listening to the Law: Reflections on the Court and Constitution," slated for publication next month. The theme of Mondays remarks, to the extent there was one, stressed working toward common goals, accepting ideological differences and embracing disagreement while keeping a broader perspective a point echoed by Barrett and earlier speakers, who cited David Brooks repeatedly in praising purpose-driven public service. The upside of so many hours spent in disagreement, Barrett said, is learning how to strike that balance."We know how to argue well," she said. "We also know how to argue without letting it consume relationships."CHIEF JUSTICE ROBERTS SOUNDS ALARM ON DANGEROUS RHETORIC AIMED AT JUDGES FROM POLITICIANSThis has been especially true during Trump's second term, as the Supreme Court presided over a record blitz of emergency appeals and orders filed by the administration and other aggrieved parties in response to the hundreds of executive orders signed in his first months in office. The high court has ruled in Trumps favor in the majority of emergency applications, allowing the administration to proceed with its ban on transgender service members in the military, its termination of millions of dollars in Education Department grants and its firing of probationary employees across the federal government, among many other actions.Even so, it is Barrett who has emerged as the most-talked-about justice on the high court this term, confounding and frustrating observers as they tried and failed to predict how she would vote.Shes been hailed as the "most interesting justice on the bench," a "trailblazer," and an iconoclast, among other things. But on Monday, she stressed that the commonalities among judges, both for the 7th Circuit and beyond, are far greater than what issues divide them.As for her own work, Barrett offered few details her remarks began and ended in less time than it takes to microwave a burrito. It's unclear if, or to what extent, Barrett's schedule may have changed at the eleventh hour a reflection of the many demands placed on sitting Supreme Court justices, whose schedules are often subject to change or cancellation at a moment's notice. The 7th Circuit did not immediately respond to Fox News's questions as to what, if anything, had changed on Barrett's end.Questions swirled as she exited. Had she planned longer remarks? Was the agenda misread? Or is she saving details for her memoir and looming book tour, as one reporter suggested? Her appearance, full of irony, left observers with more questions than answers. Whether she addresses them in the weeks ahead remains to be seen.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 20 Views 0 Vista previa
