WWW.FOXNEWS.COMTop House Dem sides with Mamdani critics on key controversy surrounding his campaign: 'Legitimate issue'Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries again declined to issue an endorsement of New York City socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani and said the recent controversy over Mamdani living in a rent-stabilized apartment is a "legitimate issue.""Well listen, thats an issue for the state legislators and the state government to work out," Jeffries told CNBC on Thursday morning when asked about Mamdani living in a rent-stabilized apartment in Queens despite making close to $150,000 a year. When pressed about New Yorkers who make far less and don't have access to rent-controlled apartments, Jeffries said, "Its a legitimate issue that has been raised, and the campaign is going to have to address it."Mamdani has faced intensifying criticism for living in the rent-controlled apartment while campaigning on the need for affordable housing, including from his opponent, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who hasfloated legislation that he has dubbed "Zohrans Law" toprevent high-income individuals from occupying rent-stabilized apartments.OBAMA'S CALL TO MAMDANI 'NORMALIZES' THE DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST CANDIDATE, SHARPTON SAYSMamdani, who has previously acknowledged that he hails from a wealthy family, has said he rented the $2,300-per-month apartment before he became an assemblyman and did not know at the time he signed the lease that it was a rent-stabilized apartment. This week, Mamdani washit with an ethics complaint urging a probe into the situation and questioning whether the socialist candidate received improper assistance securing subsidized housing."Right-wing think tanks and MAGA billionaires pathetic attempts to distract from Zohran Mamdanis mission to make NYC more affordable will fail, just as they did in the primary where New Yorkers resoundingly rejected Andrew Cuomo in a humiliating defeat," Mamdani spokesperson Dora Pekec told the New York Post regarding the ethics complaint.'NOT WELCOME HERE': STATEN ISLAND ACTIVIST ARRESTED AFTER CONFRONTING NYC MAYORAL CANDIDATEJeffries legitimizing the critique of Mamdani sparked some pushback online from users who suggested Jeffries was wrong to side against Mamdani."Starting to think this guy shouldn't be leader," former Democratic speechwriter Alex Bradley posted on X. "Weak where it matters, not a team player.""What a coward," NYU's Institute for Public Knowledge Associate Director Michael Koncewicz posted on X. "It's deeply embarrassing that Jeffries is a leader of the Democratic Party."A headline from Mediaite characterized Jeffries's comment as having thrown Mamdani "under the bus."Cuomo and Mamdani have been going back and forth with jabs on the issue after Cuomo called Mamdani out in a social media post that has been seen over 30 million times, calling on Mamdani "to move out immediately and give your affordable housing back to an unhoused family who need it."In the CNBC interview, Jeffries also declined to officially endorse Mamdani despite praising his primary performance where he "outworked" his opponents."But now, during the general election, of course, hes going to have to demonstrate to a broader electorate, including in many of the neighborhoods that I represent in Brooklyn, that his ideas can actually be put into reality, and thats the conversation that hes having with me and having with people who are community leaders and residents in the 8th Congressional District I serve."Fox News Digitals Alec Schemmel contributed to this report0 Comments 0 Shares 6 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMGoogle confirms data stolen in breach by known hacker groupWhen a hospital or nonprofit falls victim to a cyberattack, it's hard to place blame. Cybersecurity isn't their strength, and many lack the budget for a dedicated security team, let alone a chief technology officer. But when a tech giant like Google experiences a data breach, it raises serious questions. Is data security slipping down the company's priority list? Or are today's cybercriminals so advanced that even Google's top engineers are struggling to keep up?Here's what happened: Google recently confirmed that hackers stole customer data by breaching one of its internal databases. The breach targeted a system that used Salesforce, a popular cloud-based platform companies use to manage customer relationships, store business contact information and track interactions. The attack has been linked to a known threat group.Sign up for my FREE CyberGuy ReportGet my best tech tips, urgent security alerts and exclusive deals delivered straight to your inbox. The company disclosed the breach in a blog post published in early August, noting that the stolen data included"basic and largely publicly available business information, such as business names and contact details."WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?The breach was carried out by ShinyHunters, a well-known cybercriminal group formally tracked as UNC6040. The group has recently been linked to a string of high-profile incidents involving companies such as AT&T, Ticketmaster, Allianz Life and Pandora. In this case, the attackers targeted Google's corporate Salesforce system, which the company uses to store contact information and notes about small and medium-sized businesses.According to Google's Threat Intelligence Group, the attackers relied on voice phishing, or "vishing," impersonating company employees in phone calls to IT support and persuading them to reset login credentials. This technique has proven effective against multiple organizations in recent months.Google did not specify how many customers were affected by the breach. When asked for comment, a company spokesperson pointed CyberGuy back to the blog post and declined to elaborate. It is also unclear whether Google has received any sort of ransom demand from the group.Cisco, Qantas and Pandora have all reported similar breaches in recent months, which now appear to be part of a broader campaign targeting cloud-based customer relationship management tools. In its blog post, Google warned that ShinyHunters may be preparing a public leak site. Ransomware gangs often use this tactic to extort companies, threatening to publish stolen data. The group reportedly shares infrastructure and personnel with other cybercriminal collectives, including The Com, which runs extortion campaigns and has, in some cases, issued threats of physical violence. While organizations like Google may be prime targets, individuals are often the weakest link that attackers exploit. But with a few smart practices, you can dramatically reduce your risk. The Google breach happened because employees gave up sensitive information over a phone call. No legitimate IT team will ever ask you to share your password or 2FA codes over the phone. If someone does, it's a major red flag.If someone claims to be from your company's IT department or a service provider, hang up and call back using an official number. Never trust the number displayed on caller ID.Even if credentials are compromised,two-factor authentication (2FA) can block unauthorized access by adding an extra layer of security. It ensures that a password alone isn't enough to break into your accounts.GET FOX BUSINESS ON THE GO BY CLICKING HEREPhishing emails and messages often include links that take you to fake websites designed to steal your login credentials or personal information. Many online services offer login notifications or dashboards that show recent access history. If you receive a vishing or phishing attempt, report it to your organization's IT/security team or the appropriate government agency (like reportfraud.ftc.gov in the U.S.). Reporting helps shut down these scams faster and can protect others. While the data exposed in Google's case may be limited, the breach highlights a persistent vulnerability in corporate systems: people. ShinyHunters seems to be getting more effective at exploiting that weakness. What's even more concerning is the rise of vishing, also known as voice phishing. Vishing isn't new, but its growing success shows just how fragile even well-defended systems can be when human error is involved. How confident are you in your company's cybersecurity awareness training? WWW.FOXNEWS.COMAmerica's tipping culture spirals from 15% to 30% as digital guilt trip kicks inThere was a time whentipping in America was simple. You went out to eat, enjoyed your meal and left 15% for good service. Iftheserver was outstanding or you were feeling generous you went to 20%. That wasthecultural contract we all understood. When I was first trained on how to sell, my boss told me to always showthecustomer three choices and leave some room between option one and option three.Therationale behind this is that most people emotionally dont want to feel cheap, sothey wont pickthelowest option. They also worry about spending too much, sothey wont pickthemost expensive option.Whatthat leavesthem is generally pickingtheone inthemiddle. When it comes tothepressure oftipping at restaurants, cafes and takeout, we hardly ever emotionally want to feel cheap.Fast-forward to 2025, and somehow that "norm" has ballooned to 25%, 28% and even 30%. Its simply way out of control. Youre ordering a $5 latte, and before you take a sip, thecard reader spins toward you, asking if youd like to leave a 30%tip for a transaction where you poured your own milk, grabbed your own napkin and left thetipbefore you even gottheservice. Now, does that make any sense?IT'S NOT JUST DEMOCRATS. SOCIALIST MAMDANI'S PLANS SHOULD WORRY REPUBLICANS NATIONWIDEHow did we get here? Well, itstheresult of technology, inflation, pandemic-era habits that didnt die and a growing shift of payroll responsibility ontothecustomer untiltheconsumer cant burden it anymore. At 30%tips, we might be reaching our breaking point as Americans.TheRise oftheDigital Guilt TripIntheold days, you calculatedthetipin your head. Now, point-of-sale systems like Square, Clover and Toast flash pre-settipbuttons 20%, 25%, 30% withthe"customtip" option tucked away like a secret menu item. Or, even better, many plans automatically addthe20% "service gratuity" and playthehide-and-seek game of making you try to figure outthetipthey already left for you onthebill. And lets be honest:theperson who just rang you up often flipsthescreen around and standsthere, watching, while you make your choice.Thepeople in line behind you see it too. Its not just payment its a real-time social experiment in generosity and public pressure.People have called it "guilttipping" for several years, but it feels like flat out extortion.TRUMP SENDS MILITARY AFTER THE CARTELS AND ITS LONG OVERDUEIts Not Tariffs. Its a Shift of ResponsibilityInflation has beenthesuggested silent partner intipping creep. If a burger was $10 a few years ago, a 20%tipwas $2. Now that same burger is $14 or $15, so your "same" 20%tipis already costing more. But heresthekicker those digital prompts arent even suggesting 20% anymore. Sincetherestauranteur setstheamounts, they continue to shifttheresponsibility by shiftingtheprompts to a 20%, 22%, 25% and 30% grid, meaning yourtiphas nearly doubled in dollar terms since 2019.Whose Job Is It to Pay Wages?Heresthepart few want to say out loud, but Ill say it even if nobody likes it: its notthecustomers job to pay a companys employees a fair wage thatstheemployers responsibility. If a bakery chooses to raise its hourly wage from $14 to $18, thats a cost of doing business. But instead of raising menu prices transparently, many businesses simply crank upthetipprompts, quietly outsourcing payroll costs to customers.Thats silent inflation. Your coffee didnt get bigger, your sandwich didnt improve, but your bill went up because youre now covering part oftheemployers wage bill on top of higher food prices.TRUMP BREAKS 'DAY ONE' PROMISE TO LOWER COSTS AS PRICES SURGE ACROSS AMERICA IN FIRST SIX MONTHSTheExpanding Definition of "Tippable"Tipping used to be for service jobs where base pay relied on gratuities servers, bartenders, delivery drivers. Now? Youll findtiprequests at self-checkout kiosks, bakeries where you serve yourself, and even car washes where you never meet an employee. And consider companies like Uber, who saidthemain differentiation was that you dont have to worry abouttips. Now, you are in some weird random dating game where your driver is rating you and you are ratingthem.Except if you dont leave atip, whatrating do you thinkthey are really going to give you? When every transaction is "tippable,"tipping stops being a reward for exceptional service and becomes just another line item in your budget. Are You AllTipped Out?Mandatorytips erodethemeaning oftipping itself. Its why people love to travel to Europe becausethey dont have to worry about it whenthey go out for dinner. Customers starttipping out of shame instead of appreciation. WWW.FOXNEWS.COMBeach visitors risk 'arrest' for swimming without lifeguard following tragic incidentFollowing a dramatic rescue earlier this week in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, local officials are announcing they will be strictly enforcing after-hours beach time.Six individuals were caught in a rip current at Webster Avenue Beach about 100 yards offshore, according to the Jersey Shore Fire Response. The beachdid not have lifeguards on duty at the time of the incident.DEADLY RIP CURRENT FATALITIES REPORTED AMID SUMMER BEACH SEASON AS EXPERTS WEIGH INThe Seaside Heights Fire Department deployed a rescuer witha jet ski, successfully bringing the victims back to shore while a seventh person was taken to the hospital and tragically pronounced dead.Mayor Anthony Vaz clarified to Fox News Digital that they will not be closing the beaches but the ocean."Our focus is the ocean. We don't want anybody in the ocean," said Vaz.The beach will continue to be closed between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., with the possibility of an even earlier time period if the water is deemed too dangerous.Seaside Heights will be adding more law enforcement to enforce the rule, it also said."Theyll be there the rest of the season, chasing people out of the water at five oclock," said Vaz."If [people] refuse to get out, well [give them a summons]. And if they get really arrogant I hope not theyll be arrested," he said.Other beaches across the country have been implementing similar plans due to safety concerns. In December, Virginia Beach officials ruled that lifeguards would remain on their stands longer, extending through the second weekend of September, following three deaths last fall, according to local outlet 13 News Now.In Escambia County, Florida, beach rules indicate there should be no swimming or wading in the Gulf of America during double red flag conditions. For more Lifestyle articles, visit foxnews.com/lifestyleThe rule states that violators could be punished with a fine of under $500 or by imprisonment in the county jail (not to exceed 60 days) or both, according to its government site.It also states that any person rescued in the Gulf of America will be banned from returning for 24 hours. There were 49 rip current deaths so far this year as of Monday and that number now stands at 52, according to theNational Weather Service.Tom Gill, United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) vice president, told Fox News Digital that it's important for visitors to "only swim when lifeguards are on duty."CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER"One reason beaches set swimming hours is to provide specific times when swimmers will be protected by lifeguards on duty," said Gill."The USLA has determined the chance of a fatal drowning on a guarded beach is 1 in 18 million," he said."Besides the safety aspect, the cost and resources required to initiate a full drowning response after hours also factor into the decision-making."0 Comments 0 Shares 17 Views 0 Reviews
