Soros-backed Philadelphia DA survives primary challenge, but potential GOP wrinkle ahead
Philadelphia Democrat District Attorney Lawrence Krasner survived a primary challenge from Judge Pat Dugan in what was seen as a truly competitive race this year for top prosecutor in the six-to-one Democrat stronghold. However, if it turns out that Dugan received enough Republican write-in votes in addition to his cache on the Democrat ballot, he will have the opportunity to have a November rematch against Krasner.Republicans, largely out of power in the city since Mayor Bernard Samuel in the 1950s and two at-large city council seats reserved for minority parties, saw Dugans candidacy as an opportunity to oust Krasner whether he won or not on Tuesday. The citys Republican Party funded a website advising voters to write-in Dugan on the Republican line. By law, if Dugan receives 1,000 write-ins, he will be named the Republican general election nominee, unless he declines the opportunity. That would give more city voters a chance to turn out Krasner in the November general election.2024: THE YEAR LAW AND ORDER WAS RESTORED BY VOTERS"This is about making crime in Philadelphia illegal," PhillyGOP Chair Vince Fenerty told the South Philly Review.Dugan had the support of several Democrat ward committees and Philadelphia political stalwarts like state Sen. Tina Tartaglione, plus a slew of union groups like IAFF and the Teamsters. In his pitch to voters, Dugan drafted a "geographic prosecution plan" to crack down on crime in the city."This plan is about more than just fighting crime its about rebuilding communities. [It] will hold criminals accountable, provide second chances when appropriate, and ensure every neighborhood feels the impact of a fair and just system they can trust and believe in again," Dugan said in a statement on his campaign site.PHILADELPHIA DA KRASNER SLAMMED BY MURDER VICTIM'S SISTER: WE'RE FED UPKrasner, seeking a third term, has been lambasted for his progressive criminal justice policies and faced impeachment proceedings from Republicans in the now-Democrat-controlled state House of Representatives. In 2023, a Commonwealth Court judge ruled the GOP-controlled Senate cannot hold a trial because the Houses articles of impeachment didnt meet the benchs standards. One top Republican, 2022 gubernatorial nominee Sen. Doug Mastriano, who notably opposed Krasners impeachment, quipped, "Philadelphia: They want Krasner they like him. Thats a huge mandate."While there was a drop in homicides year over year in 2023, Philadelphia saw a spike from 351 the year he took office in 2018 to 562 in 2021. Krasner also ceased charges for certain offenses like marijuana possession, eliminated cash bail for some offenders and has sought generally more lenient sentences than conservatives want.In the city where then-Mayor James Kenney did a dance on social media to celebrate its inception as a sanctuary city, Krasner followed up by refusing to honor ICE detainer requests, saying that letting the feds tell him who to jail is unconstitutional. Krasners backing from about $1.45 million in political action committee support tied to Hungarian-American billionaire George Soros has also led to criticism.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPLast week, Dugan told PhillyVoice the city is feeling "Krasner fatigue" after eight years."Many people come up to me and tell stories about how upset they are with some of the policies with the DA's office," he said.

Gabbard slams 'politically motivated' surveillance as effort to 'intimidate' her following criticism of Harris
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said her placement on the Transportation Security Administrations (TSA)"Quiet Skies" watchlist was "politically motivated" after revelations about her surveillance under the Biden administration came to light during a Senate hearing.Gabbard told Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Tuesday that she believes she was placed on the list after a July 22 interview with "The Ingraham Angle" where she criticized then-Vice President Kamala Harris leadership capabilities.Gabbards remarks came soon after former PresidentJoe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee.'LIES AND SMEARS: TULSI GABBARD RAILS AGAINST DEM NARRATIVE SHES TRUMPS AND PUTINS PUPPET"I think they were trying to intimidate me, but also, they were trying to really create this chilling effect, probably knowing that I wouldn't stay silent about it and send a message out to people that if you go and criticize then-Vice President Kamala Harris, who is now going to be the Democratic nominee for president, you too, would face the consequences," the former Democratic congresswoman explained.Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said at aSenate Homeland Security Committee hearing that he received a set of records from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regarding Gabbards placement on "Quiet Skies" that confirmed federal air marshals surveilled her on domestic flights in 2024.Paul noted that the air marshals reported back information related to the intelligence chiefs appearance and how many electronics she was observed using. The TSA's "Quiet Skies" program was established in 2010 to identify passengers for enhanced screening on some domestic and outbound international flights.TOP TSA OFFICIAL EXPLAINS WHAT TO DO IF YOU DON'T HAVE REAL IDDHS said in anApril 2019 report that individuals are flagged for enhanced screening based on aggregated travel data, intelligence, a trend analysis of the intelligence and suspicious activity. The program has come under scrutiny over a lack of transparency and concerns about civil liberties violations.CNN reported in November that Gabbard was briefly placed on the list before quickly being removed. TSA told the outlet that the program is not a terrorist watchlist."TSAs Quiet Skies program is a risk-based, automated approach to transportation security, to include identifying potential risks and applying enhanced security measures," the federal agency noted. "It leverages USG intelligence information and databases to apply screening measures."TSA did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital about the program and when Gabbard was added to the list.Ingraham asked theArmy Reserve veteran whether the program should still exist, to which Gabbard responded, "No.""This Quiet Skies program that the TSA, under the Department of Homeland Security, has tasked to federal air marshals to execute not a single terrorist has been caught. Not a single one, for as long as this program has existed," she said."So, instead, what is continuing to happen, so long as this program continues, is, every single day, 40 or 50 federal air marshals are tasked with surveilling everyday Americans for no purpose."

Jordan Mailata, other Eagles stars downplay tush push as NFL vote on team's signature play looms
The NFL owners are expected to reengage in talks about the polarizing tush push on Wednesday at league meetings.Last month, owners tabled the vote on a proposal to ban the play that became the Philadelphia Eagles' calling card over the past couple of seasons. As the vote nears, some prominent Philadelphia Eagles spoke out about the controversial short yardage play.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"I don't have any thoughts on it," Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown said. "It's only one yard."Offensive lineman Jordan Mailata echoed similar sentiments, saying: "They're ruling [on] the push? I guess we'll just do it with no push."In terms of them banning the tush push, I hate that name, so I hope they do ban it it's a stupid name," the All-Pro tackle joked.COMMANDERS' FRANKIE LUVU CHIMES IN ON 'CHEAPO' PUSH AS NFL TEAM OWNERS WEIGH BAN"But I can't control it. We can't control it. So, we don't even worry about it. Right now, we're just installing our schemes, whatever [offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo] is installing that day, that's what we're focused on because worrying about if they're going to ban the tush push or not ain't going to win us a championship.".The Green Bay Packers submitted a proposal to ban the tush push. "We'll see where that goes," Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said. "We're not waiting very long to figure it out. It's going to be public [Wednesday]. And you know how I feel about it."At last month's league meetings, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie described the tush push as "precision play" and credited quarterback Jalen Hurts for helping make the play routinely successful.ESPN reported that the tush push was utilized in just 0.28% of total plays last season.Follow Fox News Digitals sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
