While the United Nations, through its UN80 Task Force, continues a public-facing attempt to slash its budget to manage a decline in external contributions and in recognition of overlapping mandates and duplicated efforts, a U.N. diplomatic source tells Fox News Digital that the effort is an attempt "to keep a mammoth organization untouched" until 2026 midterm elections.The source explained that the "zero-growth budget" proposed for 2026 has already been prepared, and that "talk about how were going to get it leaner" is only intended to "take [President] Trump for a sucker." The source said that the U.N. believes that the budget will tide the U.N. over until the House flips to Democratic control and Trump will no longer be able to "inflict damages to the U.N."The source claimed the effort is the "brain child" of the U.N. Foundation, something the group refuted."We have never proposed linking U.N. budgetary deliberations to the U.S. mid-term elections," a spokesperson from the U.N. It explains that they "did not fully address incentives for collaboration," which left U.N. entities to "too often prioritize their corporate obligations over system-wide coherence." Coordination, the memo reads, "is too easily viewed as additional work rather than a core responsibility," and "funding competition further compounds these issues."UN GLOBAL COMMS ARM UNDER FIRE FOR ANTI-ISRAEL BIAS AS CRITICS CALL FOR REFORMSWhile the memo identifies two options for reorganization, it notes that "implementing such ambitious structural reforms, especially Option 1, will require a medium-term phased approach over a 5-10 year horizon," and notes that Option 2 "is not likely to be viable if no structural changes are made to [headquarters] level entities."The U.N. source says the memo "showsthe inability of the U.N. to reform itself."Another memo from the office of the Secretary-General sent on April 25 directs Secretariat entities to perform a "functional review for cost reductions and efficiencies." Among the directions provided is that personnel "identify which functions could be relocated," including "at a minimum the functions, organizational units, post numbers, and grade levels proposed for relocation."Numbers were to be sent to the Office of the Controller by May 16, noting that the "tight deadline" is in line with the "very limited timeframe" the U.N. has "to prepare and submit the revised estimates through [the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions (ACABQ)]" so they might be considered "within the overall context of the proposed programme budget for 2026."Fox News Digitals source called foul on the earnestness of the endeavor. Instead, they said that the U.N. only got "a larger footprint." The County Board of Arlington, Virginia, voted this week to further restrict police cooperation with ICE in a move the states attorney general said only benefits "illegal immigrants that have committed some of the most heinous acts, whether it's human trafficking or even acts of terrorism."Sections of the Arlington County Trust Policy were removed to eliminate "instances in which ACPD can initiate contact with ICE regarding immigration enforcement," the county said on its website."Banning local police from alerting ICE, from terrorists, from MS-13 gang members, from human traffickers, that is not compassion. That's actually negligence," Arlington Attorney General Jason Miyares told Fox News after the vote."I want to be clear, this present policy does absolutely nothing to make Arlington safe. It makes it less safe. The only people that benefit from this are illegal immigrants that have committed some of the most heinous acts, whether it's human trafficking or even acts of terrorism. This decision does not change that, and if a crime is committed, law enforcement will respond," Takis Karantonis, the chair of the Arlington County Board, said in a statement. "The decision to remove Section 7 and related language comes in the wake of the federal administrations ongoing erosion of the constitutional right to due process, which every person has regardless of their status," he added. "The rhetoric and actions of this administration have led to tremendous stress and fear in our community, and we want to make sure all residents feel safe in engaging with local government, particularly with local law enforcement."Virginia Gov. New York City Mayor Eric Adams detailed his plan to combat rising antisemitism on college campuses across the city and highlighted the creation of a new mayor's office to fight antisemitism during an appearance on CNN's "The Situation Room" on Friday.The mayor called out increasing "anti-Jewish" and "anti-American" sentiment on college campuses in New York City and noted that the two seemed to be "tied together."Adams also addressed the issue of rising antisemitism in New York City public schools, referring to two newsletters allegedly distributed by public schools that glorified the Hamas terrorist organization.ERIC ADAMS UNFAZED BY RULING AGAINST HIS PLAN TO COMBAT MIGRANT CRIME: ALL PART OF THE PROCESS"We saw two newsletters that went out that really gave the impression of lifting up Hamas, and what Hamas stands for," Adams told anchor Wolf Blitzer. "Hamas is a terrorist, dangerous organization, and that cannot be tolerated within our public school system."In an effort to be proactive about this issue, Adams said the city has been utilizing a program called "Breaking Bread, Building Bonds" to unite the community against antisemitism."We had over 1,000 dinners in the last few years where people are sitting down and communicating with each other and then looking at information thats been printed, thats sent out to any agencies within the city that is having any form of procurement contracts with entities that are dealing with hate or antisemitism," Adams said. "We had last year over 3,000 protests that came after the October 7 attacks, 3,000 people were able to voice their concerns, exercise their right to free speech."Adams continued, "This city, when you look at the various protests, exercising of free speech, people giving their views with 8.5 million people, we do it in an orderly fashion. We allow people to do so. You can look at the marches that have occurred in this city because thats what we believe in. This is a city with free speech, which is crucial and important."The Trump administration cut $400 million in federal grants to New York's Columbia University in March over concerns about the rise in antisemitism on the school's campus.In May, the university announced it was laying off approximately 180 staffers in response to the cut in funding.

Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., recently claimed that widely-criticized negotiations with Qatar over a $400 million Air Force One temporary replacement gift began under the Biden administration not after President Donald Trump took office."What no one is talking about is [that] this same 747 has been in negotiations for a year," Mullin said on CNN Wednesday."The Biden administration is the one that started these conversations. It didn't start underneath the Trump administration why? Because we need a back-up for Air Force One."Mullin said there is no current backup plane for Air Force One, which is about 40 years old.
