Vanity Fair claims Americas obsession with protein is tied to MAGA movement
    www.foxnews.com
Is the desire to eat a high-protein diet and the MAGA movement correlated? According to a report from Vanity Fair, it is.The May 1 article titled "Why Are Americans So Obsessed With Protein? "Blame MAGA," attempts to compare Americans eating a diet aimed at promoting muscle growth and longevity to MAGA, and the so-called "manosphere."The piece claims that American "protein mania" has been building over the last few decades. Right off the bat, this is considered to be a part of the "manosphere," an umbrella term for sites and influencers that promote masculinity and anti-feminism.The article begins with the claim of more men being interested in increasing protein in their diets."I dont have a good sense on whats driving that right now, other than if its just the usual manosphereor manomania, here in the United States," Pieter Cohen, an internist at Cambridge Health Alliance and associate professor, mentioned in the piece. Cohen made this claim because he said he had more male patients bring up the interest of increasing protein than women patients.IS PROTEIN MAKING YOU FAT? HEALTH EXPERTS WEIGH IN ON TODAY'S FOOD FOCUSHe went on to claim that "everyones letting their testosterone out these days."The article describes this interest in high-protein diets as a "lust for protein," and claims that men view certain food choices that have more protein as more masculine, citing a 2023 study. Additionally, the claim is made that men have used eating meat as a part of their "identity" in addition to feeling more masculine. From there, the article attempts to explain how MAGA is related to this interest in protein. The article states that President Donald Trump is at the "helm" of the manosphere, and notes his love of burgers and locker room talk.Additionally, in the piece, podcasters Theo Von and Joe Rogan were described as "playing a major part" in the election of Trump, who was a guest on their shows during the campaign. Rogan was mentioned for his support of eating red meat, during a conversation about the carnivore diet. The article mentions a study that makes the drastic claim that young men's appeal to protein powders and other supplements could lead to or be a "pipeline" to the use of anabolic steroids.5 EXCELLENT PROTEIN SOURCES THAT AREN'T MEAT, ACCORDING TO NUTRITIONISTSNeuroscientist, professor and podcast host Dr. Andrew Huberman is also mentioned in the article for his support of consuming a high-protein diet. Huberman has encouraged his listeners to approach protein and diet goals with a "balanced and comprehensive" approach to nutrition and obtain quality sources of protein.Fox News contributor Mary Katharine Ham reacted to this article on "The Will Cain Show" Tuesday. "If wanting a steak and prominent delts (deltoid muscles) is wrong, I don't want to be right."Ham said the left is "giving over" many things to the right, such as eating high-protein and lifting weights. Ham said the article "misses the story" and said eating protein is very good for you and argues that women are shifting their views to embrace the desire to eat more protein and lift weights to maintain muscle mass and support bone density."It is not gendered, it is just good for you," she said.

Why longtime Trump ally and former Republican Gov. Paul LePage is aiming for a political comeback
    www.foxnews.com
LEWISTON, MAINE - EXCLUSIVE - Former two-term Gov. Paul LePage of Maine says President Donald Trumpis a major reason why he's coming out of political retirement at age 76 and he's eyeing a campaign comeback."I never, ever had any aspirations to go to Washington until now," LePage said this week in his first national interview after launching his bid for the House in Maine's Second Congressional District, which is a top swing seat the GOP aims to flip in the 2026 midterm elections. The contest will likely be one of the most closely watched House races in the country next year as the Republicans aim to hold their fragile majority in the chamber."Donald Trump, I think, is doing what is necessary in addressing the debt this country is facing. And I think that's a big, big thing for me," LePage said as he was interviewed in the Maine city where he was born and raised.HOUSE REPUBLICAN CAMPAIGN CHAIR SPELLS OUT HIS PLAYBOOK TO HOLD THE CONGRESSIONAL MAJORITYLePage highlighted, "I have a friend in the White House right now. I know President Trump. I think I can have an audience of President Trump. I know several of his secretaries very well. And so I think this is a good time. It's a good time for me to go help."LePage the brash and blunt politician who won over blue-collar workers struggling with economic woes, which helped the Republican businessman win election and re-election in the blue-leaning state was one of the first major GOP elected officials to endorse Trump when the president first ran for the White House nearly a decade ago."I was Donald Trump before Donald Trump became popular," LePage joked at the time, in a line that's since become famous. The conservative governor, who grabbed national attention with controversial comments made during his tenure, briefly moved with his wife, Ann, to Florida after finishing his second term in 2019."I am done with politics. I have done my eight years. Its time for somebody else," he said at the time.CONGRESSIONAL DEMOCRATS TARGETING THESE HOUSE REPUBLICANS IN 2026 MIDTERM BATTLEBut LePage re-established residency in Maine five years ago and challenged his successor as governor, Democratic Gov. Janet Mills, in the 2022 election.LePage ended up losing his bid for a third term by 13 points to Mills, but he did carry the 2nd Congressional District in that race.Moderate Democratic Rep. Jared Golden, a U.S. Marine veteran who deployed to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and who often bucks his own party in Congress, has held the seat since first winning it in 2018.But Golden won re-election by a razor-thin margin last year in the district, which is the second-most rural in the U.S. and the largest east of the Mississippi River. And Trump, who carried the district in the 2016, 2020 and 2024 presidential elections by nine, seven and 10 points, earned an electoral vote each time, as Maine and Nebraska, are the only two states in the union to allocate their electoral votes partially by congressional district.MAINE'S GOLDEN TAKES AIM AT FELLOW DEMOCRATS OVER POLICYGolden, in a statement after LePage announced his candidacy, said, "I thought Paul was doing his best work in retirement."But the 42-year-old Golden has yet to announce whether he'll seek re-election next year or instead run for either the state's Senate seat or the open governor's office. In his Fox News interview, LePage reiterated that the nation's debt is a top motivation for him to return to politics. As of May 8, the national debt was $36,212,886,111,158.26, according to Fox News' National Debt Tracker."It's the spending and the debt that this country has, and I'm worried about my grandchildren, great-grandchildren. And I think we have a president now that's really willing to tackle it, and Im willing to help," he said. But LePage added that "the other thing that is really big is what's happening in our country with the woke environment. I think I want to be there to help clean that up if we can. Having boys play in girls' sports is really sad."He also highlighted his Tuesday meetingpart of a three-day swing through the congressional districtwith Maine student Cassidy Carlisle, whom he described as "the courageous young woman fighting unfair male competition in girls sports."Maine's 2nd Congressional District shares a long border with Canada. When asked if he'll be spotlighting border security and immigration as major issues in his campaign, Lepage said, "Big time."But the controversial tariffs the president placed on nations across the globe last month has strained relations with Canada."I'm all for the tariffs," LePage said. "The tariffs will fix our international trade and lower taxes."LePage acknowledged: "Is it going to hurt in the short term? Yeah, it's going to hurt a little bit in the short term, but I think it's necessary."And he predicted that "the tariffs are going to be a short-term problem. I think they're going to settle out."LePage spoke with Fox News at Lewiston's Franco Center, a performing arts center and historic site of Franco-American culture located in a former Gothic church built in 1907 for French Canadian immigrants in Maine, which is located alongside the city's historical mills and canals. The former governor, who survived a troubling and often brutal upbringing, gave Fox News a tour of the many dwellings within blocks of the Franco Center, where he spent his childhood. The eldest son of 18 children, LePage grew up speaking French in an impoverished home with an alcoholic and abusive father who was a mill worker. At age 11, he ran away from home after his father beat him and broke his nose. He lived on the streets of Lewiston and often crashed on friends' couches for a couple of years before earning a living shining shoes, washing dishes at a restaurant, and haling boxes for a local truck driver."I had a very, very, rough upbringing as a youth. We were in welfare, we were in poverty," he said.LePage, speaking in the church where he was baptized and sought refuge during his family troubles, told Fox News, "It feels good coming in this building. This was a special building. A couple of nuns and priests were really helpful in my upbringing."He went on to graduate from high school, and with financial help from friends, attended and graduated from college. He later enjoyed success as a businessman, including greatly expanding Marden's Surplus and Salvage, a Maine-based discount store chain.Years later, he ventured into politics, winning election to the Waterville city council and later serving as the city's mayor before winning statewide office in 2010.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPThe former governor says his rough childhood has influenced his political life in a way that not many other politicians can understand. And he lamented, "Unfortunately, the mentality in the current society is not to help people get out of poverty, but it's to keep them in poverty.""I want to help get them out of poverty," he said. "I think there are so many programs that we can institute that will elevate people in poverty, rather than keep them."

Menendez brothers' resentencing moves forward as DA calls out 'deceit, 'narcissistic tendencies' in prison
    www.foxnews.com
The saga of Lyle and Erik Menendez ever seeing life outside prison walls could face a new hurdle after bombshell details from their Comprehensive Risk Assessment (CRA) depicted troubling behavior from both brothers. The details of the CRA came to light during court on Friday as Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman and his office fired off one last Hail Mary to have Judge Michael Jesic halt the resentencing process.Hochman's office failed as Judge Jesic said "there was nothing significantly new in the CRA or otherwise for him to stop the process."But before the judge made his final ruling, which cleared the way for Erik and Lyle Menendezs resentencing to proceed, Hochman detailed why new evidence in the CRA reports raised red flags, details he added were not in the original reports requested by former LA DA George Gascon.CALIFORNIA AG TAKES STANCE ON MENENDEZ BROTHERS PROSECUTOR STAYING ON CASE AMID RESENTENCING BATTLEHochman shared the findings from each CRA report, which is done by state psychologists from the state parole office, that determine the overall risk assessment of likelihood to commit violence after the release of both Menendez brothers. He argued that the pair is not "low-risk" but more elevated. Each report found that Erik and Lyle, in recent months, had been cited for breaking prison rules for contraband violations, specifically the possession of cell phones.Hochman shared the findings on Lyle Menendez first, whose "actions perpetrated deceit," speaking about the contraband phone. He added that Lyle had "downplayed his rule-breaking" and that his report showed his "entitlement and willingness to meet his own needs."MENENDEZ BROTHERS CASE: WHAT'S NEXT FOR KILLERS AFTER DEFENSE, DA SPAR OVER RESENTENCINGHochman added that he should have been on his best behavior since his resentencing was on the table.Instead, Hochman said, he proved that "he is more likely to do whatever it takes to meet his own needs and has narcissistic tendencies."When speaking about Erik's report, Hochman said it was revealed that "he has behavior issues and lacks maturity."Headded that Erik is also vulnerable to negative influence of others including his brother. He also referenced incidents as recent as January 2025 of Erik being flagged for possessing and dealing drugs, as well as helping other inmates with tax fraud.LA DA REJECTS MENENDEZ BROTHERS' RECUSAL PUSH IN RESENTENCING, CALLS IT A 'DRASTIC AND DESPERATE STEP'Neama Rahmani, former federal prosecutor and president of West Coast Trial Lawyers, told Fox News Digital that the "whole case is political.""What makes the Menendez brothers case unique is that Governor Gavin Newsom ordered the CRA before Lyle and Erik were resentenced to a sentence that includes the possibility of parole," he said."The whole case is political," he said. "Normally the report wouldnt be ordered, much less available, until parole was even an option."Rahmani noted that Judge Jesic will consider rehabilitation, acceptance of responsibility, disciplinary history in prison, fairness of the sentence, and impact on the victims.Los Angeles attorney Tre Lovell told Fox News Digital that while the CRA is significant, it is not an "end all, be all.""Both sides will be able to cross-examine the authors of the assessment," he said. "The court will consider it, but will do so mildly, and be more reliant on the cross-examinations and the specific findings of fact derived once its conclusion is tested in court.""Witness testimony and expert testimony are also extremely important in terms of deciding resentencing."Judge Jesic also noted that the conclusions of the state psychologists are "subjective and not available for cross-examination in his court."He also noted that those conclusions can change and flagged the various warnings attached to using the CRA outside the state parole system. This was an issue the brothers defense lawyer Mark Geragos hit upon inside the court saying Hochman was "twisting these" conclusions in violation of state parole guidance and using here in this matter is a "dog and pony show."SIGN UP TO GET TRUE CRIME NEWSLETTER"Last time I looked, cell phones in prison are not a super strike," he said. "The cell phone violations were known. I was the one who called the previous DA and said there's a cell phone violation."Geragos then invited Hochman to the Menedez Brothers prison to see what they had accomplished in their 35 years behind bars.Lyle and Erik will return to the Van Nuys West Courthouse on May 13 and 14 for continued proceedings in their resentencing case. With unresolved issues surrounding the risk assessment report, the upcoming dates will remain pivotal as the brothers seek resentencing following the 1989 murder of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez.Fox News' Lee Ross contributed to this report.

House Republicans release tax plan for Trump's 'big, beautiful bill'
    www.foxnews.com
House Republicans released a portion of President Donald Trumps tax agenda late on Friday evening, bringing them one step closer to completing the commander-in-chiefs "big, beautiful bill."The legislation includes an increased child tax credit (CTC), a higher threshold for estate tax liability what Republicans have referred to as the "death tax" and several other measures. It also lays the groundwork for making Trumps 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) permanent. Republican leaders had warned that failing to do so would lead to a tax increase of over 20% for millions of Americans, if TCJA were allowed to expire at the end of this year. There is no information in the bill so far about state and local tax (SALT) deduction caps, which have been a significant point of contention between blue state Republicans critical to keeping the House majority, and GOP lawmakers from deeper red, lower-tax states.SCOOP: REPUBLICANS DISCUSS DEFUNDING 'BIG ABORTION' LIKE PLANNED PARENTHOOD IN TRUMP AGENDA BILLAnother notable exclusion is a new millionaires tax bracket. Trump had floated the idea of a small tax increase on the ultra-wealthy, and a source familiar with his thinking told Fox News Digital earlier this week that Trump was considering allowing a pre-TCJA 2.6% tax hike on people making $2.5 million per year or more. Those measures and others are not necessarily excluded from the final bill, however. The legislation is also expected to include new Trump tax pledges like eliminating taxes on tips, overtime wages and Social Security checks for retirees.More elements are expected to be added in the coming days via amendments. The full legislation is expected to advance through the Ways & Means Committee, the Houses tax-writing panel, on Tuesday afternoon.Release of the legislation is a major sign of progress for House GOP leaders, who had been forced to punt their initial planned deadline of having a bill on Trumps desk by sometime between Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. But SALT deduction caps and a millionaires tax hike are two of the most volatile discussion points.House Republicans currently have a razor-thin three-vote margin, meaning they can afford to have little dissent and still pass anything without Democratic support.Theyre hoping to do just that, with virtually no Democrats currently on board with Trumps massive Republican policy overhaul.Republican lawmakers are working to pass their legislation via the budget-reconciliation process, which lowers the Senates passage threshold from 60 votes to 51, lining up the Houses own simple majority threshold.Reconciliation allows the party in power to effectively skirt the minority and pass broad pieces of legislation provided they address taxes, spending or the national debt.Trump wants Republicans to use the maneuver to tackle his priorities on the border, immigration, taxes, defense, energy, and raising the debt ceiling.BROWN UNIVERSITY IN GOP CROSSHAIRS AFTER STUDENT'S DOGE-LIKE EMAIL KICKS OFF FRENZYBoth the House and Senate passed frameworks setting the stage for the bill earlier this year. Now, the relevant committees of jurisdiction on either side must craft policy in line with that framework, before all the parts are fitted into a final bill that must again pass both houses of Congress before being signed into law by Trump. The most recent portion released by the House Ways & Means Committee would increase the current maximum CTC from $2,000 to $2,500.It would also boost the maximum deduction for qualified business income, a tax provision known as 199A, from 20% to 22%. That would largely affect small business owners whose entities are taxed under individual income tax rates. On the estate tax, which is levied on assets after person's death, it raises the exemption level to $15 million from the current level of roughly $13.9 million.Republicans have long criticized the estate tax as a needless financial burden on grieving families, particularly hitting small family-owned businesses. Supporters of the federal estate tax point out that it affects a relatively small number of estates."Seven years ago, the Trump tax cuts sparked an economic boom and provided needed relief to working families. Pro-family, pro-worker tax provisions are the heart of President Trumps economic agenda that puts working families ahead of Washington and will create jobs, grow wages and investment and help usher in a new golden age of prosperity," House Ways & Means Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo., said in a statement on Friday night."Ways and Means Republicans have spent two years preparing for this moment, and we will deliver for the American people."

Ted Cruz mocks crazy town Dems, as Maryland senator gets defensive about advocacy for alleged MS-13 member
    www.foxnews.com
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, mocked "crazy town" Democrats for defending illegal immigrants like alleged MS-13 gang member and Salvadoran national Kilmar Abrego Garcia over U.S. citizens, saying that many seem to have an incurable case of Trump derangement syndrome.Cruz's comments came after several Democratic lawmakers, including Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen, traveled to El Salvador to advocate for Abrego Garcias return to the U.S. after he was deported to his home country. The remarks also came just before Newark, N.J., Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested Friday after joining several members of Congress in storming an ICE detention facility."It is a very bizarre political decision that the Democrats have made," Cruz said. "They have decided that they are the party of illegal immigrants and the party of gang members.""The vast majority of Americans," he went on, "dont want more gang members and violent criminals in this country, and it really is a shame the Democrats have gotten so extreme in their hatred of Donald Trump that the one thing they can stand for is more illegals and more gang members."DEM IMMIGRATION TALKING POINTS FIZZLE AS DARK PICTURE OF ABREGO GARCIA EMERGESBringing up Van Hollens and other Democrats trips to El Salvador on behalf of Abrego Garcia, Cruz said: "Were seeing Democrat senators, Democrat house members flying down to El Salvador and putting all their political capital behind the position that we need more illegal immigrants in America, we need more criminals in America, and we need more MS-13 gang members in America.""I think Trump derangement syndrome is a real mental illness," he went on. "I think they hate Donald Trump so much that it has driven them to crazy town. . . . Why is it that Democrats care so much about supporting violent criminal illegal aliens, they care so much about supporting MS-13 gang members?"Though many Democrats claim that Abrego Garcia is an innocent man who was wrongly deported, the administration has pointed to considerable evidence that he is a member of the MS-13 gang.According to police and court records shared with Fox News Digital, Abrego Garcia was arrested in Hyattsville, Maryland, in October 2019, at which point he was identified by the Prince George's County Police Gang Unit as an MS-13 gang member.WHO IS THE DEMOCRATIC GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE ARRESTED FOR TRESPASSING AT AN ICE DETENTION CENTER?A federal immigration court in Baltimore further determined that Abrego Garcia was not eligible for release, because he had "failed to meet his burden of demonstrating that his release from custody would not pose a danger to others, as the evidence shows that he is a verified member of MS-13."Several DHS sources have confirmed to Fox News Digital records indicating that Abrego Garcia also had been pulled over by a Tennessee highway patrol trooper while driving an SUV belonging to Jose Ramon Hernandez Reyes, another illegal alien who in 2020 confessed to human smuggling across the U.S.-Mexico border.CLICK HERE FOR MORE IMMIGRATION COVERAGEFox News Digital has also reviewed court documents filed by Abrego Garcias wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, alleging that he had seriously beaten and verbally abused her multiple times and mentally abused her children. In April, the Supreme Court upheld a lower court's decision ordering the Trump administration to arrange Abrego Garcias return.MS-13, TREN DE ARAGUA TARGETED FOR DEATH BLOW IN NEW GOP BILL AIMED AT MIGRANT CRIMEThe court required the "government to 'facilitate' Abrego Garcia's release from custody in El Salvador and to ensure that his case is handled as it would have been had he not been improperly sent to El Salvador."The Trump administration agreed to clear any administrative obstacles keeping Abrego Garcia from returning to the U.S., but Attorney General Pam Bondi has said that returning him is "up to El Salvador if they want to return him. That's not up to us."After Fox News Digital asked Van Hollen whether he was aware of the domestic violence allegations against Abrego Garcia before he went to visit him in El Salvador, the senator became defensive, saying: "What I said here was these issues need to be litigated in the courts, okay?""What Donald Trump needs to do is put up or shut up in the courts, and hes just not done that," he went on."My response is, always stick to the Constitution, stick to the due process rights of people who live in America, and if we all do that, then well be doing the right thing for our country."

Billy Joel's wife says singer's health has to take priority after he postponed tour due to medical condition
    www.foxnews.com
Billy Joel's wife, Alexis Roderick Joel, is speaking out about her journey with endometriosis.Alexis, who has been married to the 75-year-old rock legend since 2015, struggled with debilitating symptoms, misdiagnoses and failed surgeries for years before later discovering that she was suffering from the frequently misunderstood condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus.During the time in which Alexis was battling her then-unknown disease and experiencing chronic pain, she was also raising her two young children and accompanying Billy while he performed at concerts around the world. While speaking with Fox News Digital, Alexis admitted that being on tour with Billy and her children while dealing with the symptoms of endometriosis had been "really rough."BILLY JOEL POSTPONES CONCERTS FOR 4 MONTHS DUE TO MEDICAL CONDITION"I was doing it, but I was not doing it very well," she said.Alexis continued, "So, especially with kids, if you've ever traveled with children and done a time zone change, that alone is an insane situation. So, if you add in also having a husband, that requires time and attention you know, he's working, we're not vacationing. And me going through what I'm going through, it was really rough."Luckily, when he's touring, we have a lot of support, which was really helpful," And it was huge. So I'm lucky in that I do have people to help me. And you have to, because you reach your limit. I mean, there's nothing you can do."Alexis and the "Piano Man' singer share daughters Della, 9, and Remy, 7. Billy is also father to daughter Alexa Ray Joel, 39, whom he shares with his ex-wife Christie Brinkley, 71.Alexis explained that it was an especially challenging time because neither she nor Billy knew what was causing her symptoms."We all entered this not knowing anything about it, I think as most of us do," she explained. "And it's difficult because I know that I didn't feel well.""And I also know I didn't want him to tell me that I didn't feel well," Alexis continued with a laugh. "Your fuse is very short at that point when you're dealing with two little kids traveling the world and you're in excruciating pain. And every day, you don't know what your day is going to be like, so it's difficult to plan."WATCH: Billy Joel's wife Alexis Joel shares warnings signs of endometriosis"But as time has gone on, he's extremely supportive," she added. "So picking up where I leave off and covering my deficits during that time was huge. We're just always researching he'll email me articles like Did you know that this happens with endometriosis?'""Never in a million years would I think that he would be sending me that kind of stuff, but when you're watching someone suffer, you pick up. You have to. It's what we do, we're a family."Over the past few months, Billy has been struggling with health challenges of his own.In March, the five-time Grammy Award winner shared a statement on social media in which it was announced that he was postponing eight tour dates due to a "medical condition."BILLY JOEL UNVEILS 50-POUND WEIGHT LOSS AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN FOLLOWING BACK SURGERY"The current tour will be postponed for four months to allow him to recover from recent surgery and to undergo physical therapy under the supervision of his doctors," the statement read.WATCH: Billy Joel's wife Alexis Joel says singer is trying to get better after postponing tour"Joel is expected to make a full recovery. The tour will resume at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on July 5, 2025."Billy shared a personal comment as well, writing, "While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first. I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding."During her interview with Fox News Digital, Alexis shared an update on her husband's health."He's doing well," she said. "It's funny, I was just having this conversation the other day. He's going to be 76. And I don't think of him that way. People don't think of him in that way, but he is. And he's been doing this job nonstop for 15 years just this recent run.""With the exception of COVID, he's been working every two weeks for 15-plus years," Alexis continued. "And it's a lot. At 75, 76, there comes a time where you can't always plan out everything you need to do a year and a half in advance, you know? And that's how long these schedules are. That's when you're booking things. You're booking it that long prior.""So, sometimes your health has to take priority, and things have to get postponed," she noted. "But really, in the grand scheme of things, he's a healthy person, and he's well and working on himself, trying to get better and do what he has to do medically. So it's important, you know, we need him around so he has to do what he has to do. I had to do what I had to do. Now he has to do what he has to do.""But at least I'm able to pick up his deficits now, so it's OK."Alexis, who usually stays out of the spotlight, first went public with her health battle in a post shared on Billy's Instagram page during Endometriosis Awareness Month in March. She posted a photo of herself posing with Dr. Tamer Seckin, who she described in the caption as her "earth angel." Seckin is a New York-based gynecologist, laparoscopic surgeon and endometriosis specialist who co-founded the Endometriosis Foundation of America (EndoFound) with celebrity chef Padma Lakshmi in 2009. In her post, Alexis recalled how she had found Seckin and how he had been able to treat her condition."We all have war stories, and I am no different: years of pain, misdiagnosis, failed surgeries, followed by internal bleeding, and most importantly, Doctor after Doctor telling me I was fine," Alexis wrote. "I ran the gamut from Its all in your head to Just get a hysterectomy.'" APP USERS CLICK HERE TO VIEW POSTShe continued, "I had gone to my third ER out of excruciating pain. I was non-functional. The Catholic bishops of Washington state are resisting a new law signed by Democratic Governor Bob Ferguson that they say would violate the seal of confession, which would result in excommunication for any priest who complies.Spokane, Washington, Bishop Thomas Daly released a statement in response to the law in which he said that he and his priests "are committed to keeping the seal of confession even to the point of going to jail."The new law, signed last week by Democratic Gov. Bob Ferguson, who is Catholic, added "members of the clergy" to a list of professionals who are required to report information that relates to child abuse or neglect to law enforcement, and the measure does not provide an exception for information offered at a confessional. The law is set to go into effect on July 26.A central tenet of the Catholic sacrament of confession is that priests are bound by an absolute seal of confidentiality, an obligation that requires them to keep anything learned in confession a secret. Violating this tenet results in what is called "excommunication," which cuts a person off from the church and eternal life, according to Catholic teaching.DOJ INVESTIGATING ANTI-CATHOLIC WASHINGTON STATE LAW REQUIRING CLERGY TO REPORT CHILD ABUSEWhile Daly said that his diocese has a zero-tolerance policy regarding child sexual abuse and that the church would "do everything within our power to keep your children safe," he said the "Sacrament of Penance is sacred and will remain that way in the Diocese of Spokane."Seattle Archbishop Paul Etienne framed the issue as a question of whether the clergy is "answerable to God or state."He quoted a scripture passage that reads, "We must obey God rather than men.""This is our stance now in the face of this new law. Catholic clergy may not violate the seal of confession or they will be excommunicated from the Church," said Etienne, adding: "All Catholics must know and be assured that their confessions remain sacred, secure, confidential and protected by the law of the Church."CHOOSING AN AMERICAN POPE 'CANNOT BE AN ACCIDENT,' SAYS PAUL MAUROEtienne said that the law cuts to the heart of the First Amendments ban on the state either establishing or prohibiting the free exercise of a religion."Once the state asserts the right to dictate religious practices and coerce information obtained within this sacrament privileged communication where is the line drawn between Church and state? What else may the state now demand the right to know? Which other religious practices will it try to legislate?" asked the archbishop. On Monday, the U.S. Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division opened an investigation into the law for possible violations of the First Amendment's religious protections.A statement by the division said that the new law "singles out members of the clergy as the only supervisors who may not rely on applicable legal privileges, including religious confessions, as a defense to mandatory reporting."BROOKLYN BISHOP BRENNAN ON WHAT POPE LEO XIV MEANS FOR THE CHURCH"The law appears to single out clergy as not entitled to assert applicable privileges, as compared to other reporting professionals," said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon of the Justice Departments Civil Rights Division."We take this matter very seriously and look forward to Washington States cooperation with our investigation," said Dhillon.Bishop Joseph Tyson of Yakima, Washington, posted on Facebook that he was grateful for the Justice Departments investigation, saying that the bishops attempts to meet with the governor about the law had gone unanswered."I realize that many may disagree but in a way that parallels attorney client privilege, the seal of confession allows the penitent to come to grips with moral accountability and culpability," said Tyson. "We want to hope and pray that the heart of an offender would be so moved by the mercy of God and the guidance of the skilled clergy that it would necessarily lead to an encounter beyond the sacramental seal with law enforcement."Ferguson did not respond to Fox News Digitals request for comment.

DAVID MARCUS: Looney Jersey Dems put law enforcement at risk with pointless antics
    www.foxnews.com
Among the most dangerous jobs that any American can do is guarding prisons, and among the hardest prisons to guard are facilities that hold members of foreign gangs like MS-13. Yet, for some idiotic reason, the mayor of Newark, N.J., and three members of Congress, all Democrats, decided to make that job even more dangerous on Friday. At the Delaney Hall ICE facility in Newark, these so-called leaders didnt just stage a protest, they illegally trespassed on a federal detention facility, pulling its guards away from normal duties and forcing the photo-op arrest of the mayor.NEWARK MAYOR ARRESTED AS DEM CONGRESS MEMBERS STORM ice FACILITYU.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba described the desperate grandstanding on X shortly after the incident."The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey this afternoon," Habba wrote. "He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW."This hapless foursome of Garden State windbags consisted of hizzoner, as well House of Representative membersBonnie Watson Coleman, LaMonica McIver, and Rob Menendez, Jr.If that last name sounds familiar it is because his father, Robert Menendez Sr., is the disgraced ex-senator recently convicted of taking bribes, including gold bars from foreign governments. Maybe Menedez the Younger was just practicing visiting his dad behind iron bars.In any event, these four blustering blowhards waited for a bus to enter the facility and ran in behind the bus, in clear violation of federal laws. They were told to leave and refused.Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested during the despicable display, something he almost certainly planned to happen. Did I mention hes running for governor? And Democrats from across the country decried his detention as another example of Trumpian authoritarianism.Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, a Democrat, of course, rushed to his peer's defense."Regardless of your views on ICE, the law is the law and any facility operating in a New Jersey municipality must follow it," said Fulop, who is also running for governor. "If Delaney Hall doesnt have proper local authorization, Mayor Baraka had every reason to be there, and every right to demand accountability."But what did Baraka think was going to happen when he illegally and stupidly tried to break into prison? There are countless ways that Baraka and the lawmakers could have exerted oversight without inviting criminal chaos. What is most shameful here is the utter disregard these public servants had for the law enforcement officials who had to referee their little parade.Last week in Charleston, West Va., I spoke to a police officer who trains others and asked how the deportations impact their job."There is no such thing as a low-risk encounter," he said. "There is only high risk and unknown risk," and, of course, the possibility that a suspect might have a deportation order makes every stop potentially more dangerous. The point here is that while these Democrat doofuses were enjoying their made-for-TV moment, law enforcement at the facility were forced to face a new challenge to their already demanding jobs. These officers had no idea if anyone in the assembled crowd might be armed, if others might use the farcical distraction caused by these politicians to rush the facility, or if those inside might take the opportunity to make mayhem. In other words, it was an unknown risk.Indeed, as the White House was quick to point out, this facility holds murderers and rapists, the worst of the worst, but somehow, through the slow-working moral poison of leftism, these elected officials are convinced the criminals are the victims.CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONThese four Jersey Democrats owe every law enforcement official who had to waste their time and put themselves in danger on Friday an apology. Whatever one thinks of Trumps deportation policies, it's not these officers fault, and they shouldnt pay a price for it.Americans understand what is happening with deportations; Many approve, many dont, but there is no reason for Democrat politicians to stage elaborate and potentially dangerous pity pageants in our prisons.Where was this outpouring of moral outrage when former President Biden was letting illegal migrants pour into the country and murder innocent people? If the Democrats want to change our deportation policies, they'd better get to winning elections and stop aggravating our law enforcement with pointless antics. Until then, Trump will continue to target and remove those who are in our nation illegally.CLICK HERE FOR MORE FROM DAVID MARCUS
