WWW.FOXNEWS.COMDOJ intervening in California trans athlete controversy as Trump monitors girls' track and field championshipAttorney General Pam Bondi and the U.S. Department of Justice have turned their eye west in President Donald Trump's battle to counter a wave of trans athletes competing in girls' high school sports. The DOJ announced an investigation into California's high school sports league, the CIF, and California Attorney General Rob Bonta, to determine whether the state has violated Title IX by enabling trans athletes to compete in girls' sports since 2014."Title IX exists to protect women and girls in education. It is perverse to allow males to compete against girls, invade their private spaces, and take their trophies," Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet K. Dhillon said in a statement. "This Division will aggressively defend womens hard-fought rights to equal educational opportunities."CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThe office of United States Attorney Bill Essayli, who previously served as a California state lawmaker and fought on the ground to support families opposing trans athletes in girls' sports, is also involved in the investigation."The law is clear: Discrimination on the basis of sex is illegal and immoral," said United States Attorney Bill Essayli. "My office and the rest of the Department of Justice will work tirelessly to protect girls sports and stop anyone public officials included from violating womens civil rights."The announcement cites a current lawsuit filed by the families of two girls' high school athletes at Martin Luther King High School in Riverside, California. The announcement did not identify the plaintiffs by name. The lawsuit, which was filed by the families of Taylor Starling and Kaitlyn Slavin, alleged the school's cross-country team dropped Starling from her varsity spot in favor of a trans athlete, and that school administrators compared their "Save Girls Sports" t-shirts to swastikas, Fox News Digital has previously reported.TEEN GIRLS OPEN UP ON TRANS ATHLETE SCANDAL THAT TURNED THEIR HIGH SCHOOL INTO A CULTURE WAR BATTLEGROUNDStarling even testified before the house legislature supporting a pair of bills that would have reversed California's girls' sports eligibility policy on April 1. Both bills failed to pass due to opposition from the Democrat Majority. But now, the lawsuit is being cited in a federal investigation.Trump's Department of Justice has already shown itself willing to sue a state for allowing trans athletes to compete in girls' sports. Bondi announced a lawsuit against Maine on April 16 after weeks of warnings and tension, that included multiple federal funding pauses, which have been restored, and a public spat between Trump and Governor Janet Mills.Starling's father, Ryan Starling, previously told Fox News Digital that he supported Trump's funding cuts to Maine, and would support similar sanctions against his state for allowing trans athletes in girls' sports."Good," Ryan Starling said in response to seeing the situation in Maine, knowing the same could soon play out in his state. "That's the only thing they answer to, is when their funding is cut and when it actually affects their pocketbooks, that's the only thing that will get it to change.MAINE GIRL INVOLVED IN TRANS ATHLETE BATTLE REVEALS HOW STATE'S POLICIES HURT HER CHILDHOOD AND SPORTS CAREERThe situation in Maine was prompted heavily by news of a trans athlete who won a girls' pole vault competition after previously competing in the boys' category. Now, California faces a potential similar outcome in its state track and field championship. The upcoming girls' state title meet will feature a trans athlete competing in girls' long jump and triple jump. The athlete, AB Hernandez of Jurupa Valley High School, has dominated the girls' postseason so far, taking first place in both events in the sectional final on May 17.Trump's Department of Education previously sent a warning to California and Jurupa Valley High School via an exclusive statement to Fox News Digital on May 15.The high school has defended letting Hernandez compete in the girls' category, as to follow current state law."JUSD continues to follow both California law and CIF policy regarding school athletics. Both state law and CIF policy currently require that students be permitted to participate in athletic teams and competitions consistent with their gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil's records. JUSD remains committed to protecting the rights and safety of the students we serve, in accordance with applicable state and federal laws," the district said in a previous statement provided to Fox News Digital.Trump himself got in on the debate when he sent a Truth Social post on Tuesday morning, warning the state and Governor Gavin Newsom of potential funding cuts, and orders to local authorities to prevent a trans athlete from competing in the girls' category on Saturday.Just hours later, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) announced it would make a slight rule change for this weekend's championship. The change allows biologically female athletes who fell just shy of qualifying for the championship behind a trans athlete a chance to compete for the title this weekend.Newsom's office provided a statement to Fox News Digital supporting the CIF's decision. This change will result in at least two competitors qualifying to compete for the state title after falling just shy of the typical qualification threshold on Saturday."CIF's proposed pilot is a reasonable, respectful way to navigate a complex issue without compromising competitive fairness a model worth pursuing. The Governor is encouraged by this thoughtful approach," the statement read.Newsom previously admitted he thought biological males competing in girls' sports was "deeply unfair," during an episode of his podcast in March.Jurupa Unified School District (JUSD) where Jurupa Valley High School is based, was included in the DOJ's list of recipients of a letter informing of the incoming investigation, in the department's official announcement on Tuesday. However, the school district claims it has not received any letter of complaint, a spokesperson told Fox News Digital. The DOJ has confirmed to Fox News Digital that the JUSD is named in the letter. Fox News Digital has reached out to the CIF, Bonta's office and Riverside Unified School District for a response.Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X, and subscribe tothe Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 49 Views 0 Anteprima

Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that, if elected, he would seek to raise the city's minimum wage to $20 an hour by 2027."The businesspeople are going to say, 'Oh, no, you can't raise the minimum wage, because that's going to slow the economy," Cuomo said at a campaign rally, addressing prospective critics of such a plan."Baloney not to use another word.FORMER NY GOV CUOMO HOLDS DOUBLE-DIGIT LEAD IN NYC MAYORAL RACE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY"Their pundits are going say, 'Oh, it's going be too hard to get it passed politically. Because we did it before, and we're going to do it again."We raised it to $15, the highest minimum wage in the United States," he noted, likely touting a law he signed during his second term as governor. "And what happened when we did it? The economy went up, not down. We protected small businesses with a tax credit."And if you had indexed that $15, you know what it would be today?" Cuomo posited. "Twenty dollars that is the fair wage, and that's what we want. And that's what we're going to get back."A public relations firm linked to the Cuomo campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.DOJ INVESTIGATING ANDREW CUOMO FOR ALLEGEDLY LYING ABOUT COVID DECISIONS, SOURCE CONFIRMSThe city's minimum wage was raised twice in the past two years. WWW.FOXNEWS.COMExplosive new intelligence report reveals Iran's nuclear weapons program still activeFIRST ON FOX A new intelligence report claims Iran is continuing with its active nuclear weapons program, which it says can be used to launch missiles over long distances. The startling intelligence gathering of Austrian officials contradicts the assessment of the U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard told a Senate Intelligence Committee in March that the American intelligence community "continues to assess that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has not authorized the nuclear weapons program he suspended in 2003."Austrias version of the FBI the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution wrote Monday in an intelligence report,"In order to assert and enforce its regional political power ambitions, the Islamic Republic of Iran is striving for comprehensive rearmament, with nuclear weapons to make the regime immune to attack and to expand and consolidate its dominance in the Middle East and beyond."TRUMP CONFIRMS HE TOLD NETANYAHU TO BACK OFF IRAN STRIKES AMID NUCLEAR TALKSThe Austrian domestic intelligence agency report added, "The Iranian nuclear weapons development program is well advanced, and Iran possesses a growing arsenal of ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear warheads over long distances."According to an intelligence document obtained and reviewed by Fox News Digital, "Iran has developed sophisticated sanctions-evasion networks, which has benefited Russia."The Austrian intelligence findings could be an unwantedwrench in PresidentTrumps negotiation process to resolve the atomic crisis with Irans rulers because the data outlined in the report suggests the regime will not abandon its drive to secure a nuclear weapon. In response to the Austrian intelligence, a White House official told Fox News Digital, "President Trump is committed to Iran never obtaining a nuclear weapon or the capacity to build one."The danger of the Islamic Republic of Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism (and its illegal atomic weapons program) was cited 99 times in the 211-page report that covers pressing threats to Austrias democracy."Vienna is home to one of the largest embassies of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Europe, which disguises intelligence officers with diplomatic," the Austrian intelligence report noted."Iranian intelligence services are familiar with developing and implementing circumvention strategies for the procurement of military equipment, proliferation-sensitive technologies, and materials for weapons of mass destruction," the Austrian intelligence agency said.In 2021, aBelgium court convictedAsadollah Asadi, aformer Iranian diplomatbased in Vienna, for planning to blow up a 2018 opposition meeting of tens of thousands of Iranian dissidents held outside Paris. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who served as President Trumps personal lawyer at the time, attended the event in France.IRAN FOREIGN MINISTER VOWS NUCLEAR ENRICHMENT WILL CONTINUE 'WITH OR WITHOUT A DEAL'When asked about the differences in conclusions between the U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Austrian intelligence report, David Albright, a physicist and founder and president of the Institute for Science and International Security in Washington, D.C., told Fox News Digital, "The ODNI report is stuck in the past, a remnant of the fallacious unclassified 2007 NIE [National Intelligence Estimate]."The Austrian report in general is similar to German and British assessments. Both governments, by the way, made clear to (the) U.S. IC [intelligence community] in 2007 that they thought the U.S. assessment was wrong that the Iranian nuclear weapons program ended in 2003."The German assessment is from BND [Germanys Federal Intelligence Service] station chief in D.C. at that time. The British info is from a senior British non-proliferation official I was having dinner with the day the 2007 NIE was made public. The German said the U.S. was misinterpreting data they all possessed."The Austrian intelligence findings that Tehran is working on an active atomic weapons program "seems clear enough," said Albright. In 2023, Fox News Digital revealed a fresh batch of European intelligence reports showed that Iran sought to bypass U.S. and EU sanctions to secure technology for its nuclear weapons program with a view toward testing an atomic bomb.European intelligence agencies have documented prior to 2015 andafter the Iran nuclear deal( JCPOA) was agreedupon that Tehran continued efforts to illegally secure technology for its atomic, biological and chemical weapons of mass destruction programs. The Austrian intelligence report noted that Iran provides weapons to the U.S.-designated terrorist movements Hamas and Hezbollah, as well as to Syrian militias.A spokesperson for ODNI declined to comment. The U.S. State Department and U.S. National Security Council did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital press queries.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 50 Views 0 Anteprima

"I mean, these individuals are reaching out to people they know and seeking assistance, and we are going to arrest and prosecute anyone who we find is assisting them."A New Orleans jury last October found Groves guilty of two counts of second-degree murder after he killed two men on Mardi Gras in 2024. He later pleaded guilty to two manslaughter charges in two other killings.INMATE ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH ORLEANS JUSTICE CENTER ESCAPEGroves, already serving two life sentences for the Mardis Gras murders, was awaiting his sentencing for the manslaughter charges when he escaped the Orleans Justice Center. The jail is only at 60% staffing, and at the time of the escape, four supervisors and 36 staff members were monitoring 1,400 inmates, authorities said.Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson on Thursday called for a long-term investment in plumbing upgrades at the Orleans Justice Center ahead of hurricane season, noting issues with flooding and "severe plumbing issues.""These recurring plumbing issues highlight a much deeper infrastructure crisis at OJC, rooted in years of deferred maintenance, chronic overcrowding, and a lack of meaningful investment," Hutson said in a Thursday statement. "This is not just a facilities problem. It's a public safety issue, a staffing issue, and most of all, a human dignity issue. We are responsible for providing safe, stable, and humane conditions for everyone in our custody and working inside that building."Hutson announced a temporary suspension of her re-election campaign in a statement on May 21."As I said today, I take full accountability for the breach that occurred under my leadership," Hutson said. WWW.FOXNEWS.COMCalifornia girls' field championship gets more big rule changes amid trans athlete outrage, Trump's pressureCalifornia's high school sports league made a major rule change to its upcoming girls' track and field state championship for the second day in a row.The changes come as the state faces increasing pressure, both internally from its own residents and from President Donald Trump's administration, due to a growing controversy involving a trans athlete. On Wednesday, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) announced that Saturday's state title meet will now expand its pool of competitors and even medal recipients to accommodate any female athletes that are displaced by a biological male competitor.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThe CIF is specifically making this rule change for the long jump, high jump and triple jump events."On Friday, May, 30, if necessary, in the high jump, triple jump and long jump qualifying events at the 2025 CIF State Track and Field Championships, a biological female student-athlete who would have earned the next qualifying mark will also be advanced to the finals," the CIF announcement read."Additionally, if necessary, in the high jump, triple jump and long jump events at the 2025 CIF State Track and Field Championships, a biological female student-athlete who would have earned a specific placement on the podium will also be awarded the medal for that place and the results will be reflected in the recording of the event."The CIF's track and field postseason has been rocked by a national controversy involving trans athlete AB Hernandez of Jurupa Valley High School competing in those events, and regularly dominating female competition. The athlete took first place in long jump and triple jump at a sectional final and state qualifying round in the last two weeks. The CIF's latest change comes just a day after the federation expanded the size of its competitor pool."Any biological female student-athlete who would have earned the next qualifying mark for one of their Section's automatic qualifying entries in the CIF State meet, and did not achieve the CIF State at-large mark in the finals at their Section meet, was extended an opportunity to participate in the 2025 CIF State Track and Field Championships," the CIF said Tuesday.TEEN GIRLS OPEN UP ON TRANS-ATHLETE SCANDAL THAT TURNED THEIR HIGH SCHOOL INTO CULTURE WAR BATTLEGROUNDWednesday's change also comes just a day after the family of a female competitor set to face Hernandez in the championship told Fox News Digital that they believe the CIF expanding the competitor pool was enough.CIF's solution to this situation, which allows additional girls to compete at the state championship who otherwise didn't qualify because the transgender athlete took their spot, isn't good enough it's still an unfair competition and an injustice to the girls competing," said the family of La Canada girls' track star Katie McGuinness, in a statement."Allowing biological males to compete in womens sports is unfair, unjust and defies common sense," the family added.Controversy involving Hernandez has prompted local, state and national outrage by families and activists, while President Donald Trump has shown he is willing to sanction the state over the situation.Trump sent a post on Truth Social Tuesday morning warning California and Gov. Gavin Newsom of potential federal funding cuts to the state, and even orders to send local authorities to stop a trans athlete from competing in the girls' category on Saturday.Trump did not specifically name the athlete or school he was referring to in the social media post.CALIFORNIA GIRLS' TRACK ATHLETE OPENS UP ON LOSING 1ST-PLACE TITLE TO TRANS COMPETITORBut on Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Justice announced it would be launching an investigation into the CIF and California Attorney General Rob Bonta over the state's law that allows biologically male trans athletes to compete with girls and women.A letter of complaint informing of the investigation was addressed to Jurupa Valley High School, the DOJ has told Fox News Digital. Jurupa Unified School District (JUSD) has told Fox News Digital it has not received a letter. The DOJ's announcement lists the school district in the official announcement of the investigation.JUSD has previously defended letting Hernandez compete in the girls' category."JUSD continues to follow both California law and CIF policy regarding school athletics. Both state law and CIF policy currently require that students be permitted to participate in athletic teams and competitions consistent with their gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil's records. JUSD remains committed to protecting the rights and safety of the students we serve, in accordance with applicable state and federal laws," the district said in a previous statement provided to Fox News Digital.Other competitors have spoken out throughout the track and field postseason against the CIF and state for allowing the situation to progress to this point. The second-place finisher to Hernandez in triple jump at a sectional final on May 17, Reese Hogan of Crean Lutheran High School, made it a point to stand on the first-place podium spot for a quick and symbolic photo op. Footage of Hogan taking the top podium spot after the trans athlete stepped off went viral on social media over the weekend."It's just kind of sad just watching. He's obviously a really talented athlete, we've all seen him jump and stuff, and I wish him the best of luck, but in a boys' division," Hogan previously told Fox News Digital about competing against the athlete. "It's pretty obvious the certain advantages that he has, and it's obviously just sad as a woman to watch that."Brea Olinda student Julia Teven was one of the few female athletes to have beaten Jurupa Valley's athlete this year, tying for first place in the high jump at the sectional prelims earlier this month, while the trans athlete finished eighth."I genuinely believe he doesn't have a harmful intent towards girls sports. I think it's the kind of like, CIF allowing him that's kind of put him in his position," Teven said. "I think genuinely, he's just, like, being enabled by the CIF, and he's just taking his opportunity presented to him."Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X, and subscribe tothe Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 83 Views 0 Anteprima

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMTrump admin working to fly back Guatemala migrant erroneously deported from USThe Trump administration told a federal judge on Wednesday it is working to charter a plane to return to the U.S. an immigrant from Guatemala who was deported in March without due process and despite fears of persecution. The Justice Department said in a court filing Wednesday that they are working to return to the U.S. the individual, identified only as O.C.G., to the U.S.The update is significant, and marks the first known instance that the Trump administration appears to be complying with a federal court's order to return to the U.S. a migrant who was deported in what administration officials have since acknowledged to be the result of erroneous information. The news comes after U.S. District Court Judge Brian Murphy in Massachusetts ruled last week that the man, identified only as O.C.G., was deported to Mexico without due process and ordered that the administration secure his return to the United States.Lawyers for the Trump administration told the court late Wednesday that ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Phoenix Field Office made contact over the weekend with O.C.G.s attorneys, and is "currently working with ICE Air to bring O.C.G. back to the United States on an Air Charter Operations (ACO) flight return leg."US JUDGE ACCUSES TRUMP ADMIN OF MANUFACTURING CHAOS IN SOUTH SUDAN DEPORTATIONS, ESCALATING FEUDThe update comes after Judge Murphy rejected a request from the Department of Homeland Security on Friday to amend his earlier order requiring the Trump administration to "take all immediate steps" to return the individual to the U.S., citing a lack of due process.Murphy also stressed that he had not been given a chance to contest his removal to a country where he could face threats of torture. These "reasonable fear interviews" are are afforded to migrants under U.S. and international law, providing them a chance to formally seek protection from removal, should they have reasonable fears of persecution or torture in that country.Murphy noted in his ruling that O.C.G. was previously held for ransom and raped in Mexico, but was not afforded the chance to assert those fears prior to his removal, according to his attorneys."In general, this case presents no special facts or legal circumstances, only the banal horror of a man being wrongfully loaded onto a bus and sent back to a country where he was allegedly just raped and kidnapped," Murphy said Friday."The return of O.C.G. poses a vanishingly small cost to make sure we can still claim to live up to that ideal," he added. This is a breaking news story.
