Pope Leo XIV makes first social media post, calling for peace
Pope Leo XIV made his first social media post on Tuesday in which he sent a message of peace, as he seeks to maintain an active social media presence through the official papal accounts. The pontiff has chosen "to maintain an active social media presence through the official papal accounts on X and Instagram," theDicastery for Communication said in a press release. In his first post since taking over the Vaticans official Instagram and X accounts, he repeated the first words he said to the world as pope.PRESIDENT TRUMP CALLS FIRST AMERICAN POPE LEO XIV AN HONOR FOR US, VERY HAPPY"Peace be with you all!" he began in an Instagram post. The post featured some of the photos showing the first days of his time as the new pope, after he took over from his predecessor, Pope Francis, who died last month at the age of 88."This is the first greeting spoken by the Risen Christ, the Good Shepherd," the Instagram post continued. "I would like this greeting of peace to resound in your hearts, in your families, and among all people, wherever they may be, in every nation and throughout the world."The Vatican said it was archiving the posts from Francis' 12-year papacy. The new X account did not appear to be active yet as of Wednesday morning.Previous popes did not publish the posts themselves, as they were curated by the Vatican.FIRST AMERICAN-BORN POPE INSPIRES FAITH LEADERS ACROSS THE NATIONBefore he was elected as pope, the former Cardinal Robert Prevost occasionally posted on an X account started in 2011. It had been inactive since July 2023 before he returned to the platform earlier this year to criticize the Trump administration's immigration policies and comments by Vice President JD Vance, who had also been at odds with Francis in his final months over the administration's immigration agenda that included a mass deportation plan. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

'MobLand star Helen Mirren has no time for grumpy rich actors
Helen Mirren didn't hold back in voicing disdain for "grumpy" older actors while heaping praise on co-stars Pierce Brosnan and Harrison Ford. The 79-year-old actress played Cara Dutton, the wife of Ford's ranch owner Jacob Dutton, in the "Yellowstone" spinoff "1923," and she portrays Maeve Harrigan, who is married to Brosnan's crime boss Conrad Harrigan in the new Paramount+ series "MobLand."During an interview with Fox News Digital, the Academy Award winner shared her thoughts on what had surprised her about working with Ford, 82, and Brosnan, 71."I think with both of them, as I say, it's the way they behave on set, professionally," Mirren said.HARRISON FORD RESPONDS WITH NSFW ANSWER WHEN ASKED ABOUT CO-STAR, SAYS HELEN MIRREN IS STILL SEXY"Harrison would sit around and chat with the cowboys," she added. "And it was cold, it wasn't comfortable. He didn't go off to his trailer and sit in a nice, warm, comfortable trailer. He would sit in the cold with everybody else. You know, chatting to the guys, for example.""And Pierce Pierce just is so great. And you know what the other thing is great about them both? They both love what they do. And I've noticed, in my profession, a lot of older actors kind of get grumpy. Actresses don't, but actors do."They get grumpy, and I think, what the excuse my language f--- do you have to be grumpy about? You're working, you've been paid a lot of money, everyone's looking after you. Well, what do you got to be grumpy about? Harrison and Pierce are so not grumpy. They're just they love what they do. They're positive about it. It's what they do, and they love it."Mirren has earned praise for the chemistry she shares with Ford and Brosnan when they played her on-screen husbands. While speaking with Fox News Digital, Mirren reflected on the secret behind her strong rapport with the two actors.WATCH: MOBLAND STAR HELEN MIRREN CALLS OUT GRUMPY RICH ACTORS"You don't develop chemistry. It's there or it isn't, you know," she explained. "It just totally depends on what sort of person they are, what sort of person you are."And they are two really, really great guys," Mirren continued. "I think it also comes from respect, you know, professional respect and respect for the character of the other or maybe love for the character of the other person. And both Harrison and Pierce share a sort of commitment to their craft professionalism, generosity on set. There's no sort of, 'Oh, I'm a big movie star' thing going on at all. They're both great guys."Prior to filming "1923," Mirren had co-starred alongside Ford in the 1986 movie "The Mosquito Coast." In a December 2022 interview with the U.K. newspaper the Times, Mirren explained why their working dynamic on the "1923" set was "very different" from the first time that they had teamed up.WATCH: HELEN MIRREN TALKS CHEMISTRY WITH CO-STARS HARRISON FORD AND PIERCE BROSNAN"The relationship was obviously very, very different then because Harrison was already an enormous movie star, and I was a theater actress out of London and nobody had heard of me," Mirren said of the "Star Wars" actor.LIKE WHAT YOURE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS"Now our relationship is very different because I've sort of caught up with him," she added. "Well, I'll never catch up with him completely, but I'm a little bit closer than I was."Brosnan and Mirren had both previously appeared in the 1980 British gangster movie "The Long Good Friday," which marked the future James Bond franchise star's film debut. In a recent interview with TVLine, Mirren recalled that she never met Brosnan while filming "The Long Good Friday," noting "he played a very small role, nonspeaking role important little role, but nonspeaking and I was never in any scenes that he was in."However, Mirren had the chance to work with Brosnan when they co-starred in the upcoming Chris Columbus-directed movie, "The Thursday Murder Club."CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTERWhile speaking with Fox News Digital, Mirren shared that Brosnan played a pivotal role in her decision to join the cast of "MobLand," which also stars Tom Hardy."I was working with Pierce Brosnan on a great film called The Thursday Murder Club that is coming out very soon but was shot before Mobland," she recalled. "And we were both working together for the first time really, properly together. We both got sent the script at the same time, so we could talk to each other about it. 'Oh, Pierce, I've been sent this. I hear you've been sent it. Yeah, what do you think about it?' 'Well, I don't know. What do you about it?'"So, a lot of those sort of conversations went on," Mirren continued. "But the fact that Pierce was going to be in it was hugely influential on my decision."He's the nicest, best, most professional, great guy," she added. "And, and at my point in life, the people I work with have become really very, very important."Mirren said Hardy's involvement in "MobLand" was also a factor in her choice to sign on for the series.WATCH: MOBLAND STAR HELEN MIRREN SHARES WHY CO-STAR PIERCE BROSNAN WAS HUGELY INFLUENTIAL IN HER DECISION TO JOIN SERIES"Tom Hardy, a seriously great film actor that I admired as an audience so much and always rather secretly wanted to be a movie with him," she said. "So. a combination of things like that."In "Mobland," set in modern-day London, Mirren and Brosnan play the matriarch and patriarch of the powerful Harrigan crime family, while Hardy portrays their "fixer," Harry Da Souza. Over the course of the series, the Harrigans engage in an escalating war with a rival crime family "in a battle that threatens to topple empires," according to a plot synopsis.During her interview with Fox News Digital, Mirren raved about playing the ruthless character of Maeve."I love Maeve," she said with a laugh. "I love Maeve. Oh my God, I'm having such a good time playing her. I was saying to someone just now, it's like a very beautifully made comfortable coat or dress or something that I adore putting on, and I just feel great in it. And that's what Maeve is like.""Mobland" is streaming on Paramount+ with new episodes released weekly on Sundays.

Chuck Todd blames Schumer, Democrats' silence on Biden decline for party's credibility collapse
Former NBC anchor Chuck Todd called out Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer immediately after the senator dodged a question on CNN Tuesday about what he knew about former President Joe Bidens mental decline. The New York senator appeared on "The Arena With Kasie Hunt" where he avoided answering whether he was aware of recent revelations from CNNs Jake Tapper and Axios Alex Thompsons upcoming book "Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again.""Did you really not have any idea that he was not fit to serve a second term?" Hunt asked him."Kasie, were looking forward," Schumer responded. "We have the largest Medicaid cut in front of us. We have the whole federal government at risk "IRRITATED CHUCK TODD REFUSES TO ACCEPT 'STUPID PREMISE THAT PRESS MISSED BIDENS DECLINE"But youre facing all of this because you lost a presidential election," Hunt interrupted. "And is that not Joe Bidens responsibility for deciding to run again?""Were looking forward," Schumer repeated."Thats it?" Hunt reacted."Thats it," Schumer replied. The interview ended, then went rightto a panel that included Todd, who attacked Schumer's dismissive dodge."He is among the people that are responsible for this. The leaders of the Democratic Party, the staff of the White House," Todd said of why the party has lost credibility."And I have to say, I find everybody now talking to these authors- get outta here. Go home. Youre part of the problem. Now you tell us," he added."Heres an unpopular president, and the Democratic Party has a worse rating than the Republican Party with this catastrophic governance that weve seen over the last 120 days," Todd went on. "And yet, why is the Democratic Party in worse shape? Because of this distrust. Becausethe public feels as if the party leadership let them down and let them let this happen.""[Schumer's] as responsible as anybody else. He was a leader in the party. He couldve said something sooner, and he didnt," Todd said.CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTUREIn February 2024, Schumer defended Biden and insisted that attacks on his abilities were "right-wing propaganda." FBI DIRECTOR KASH PATEL: Law enforcement has our backs. Let's show we have theirs
Across the country, law enforcement officers are answering the call serving with courage, conviction, and a commitment to protect their communities no matter the cost. They stand between order and chaos, often without thanks, and too often under threat. We will always stand with them.According to the FBIs latest report, 64 officers were killed in the line of duty last year. Already in 2025, weve lost 18 more. These are not just numbers they are people, lives, and legacies. They are reminders that the work of law enforcement remains among the most difficult and dangerous in our country. Yet despite the risks, officers across America continue to show up every shift, every call, every crisis to keep you safe.Since becoming FBI director in February, Ive made it a personal priority to reach out to every chief and sheriff who has lost an officer this year. It may be the hardest part of the job, and every conversation is heartbreaking, but its a complete must. Every one of them reflects the strength, character, and deep sense of service that define the law enforcement profession.KASH PATEL SUPPORTS TRUMP'S FBI BUDGET PROPOSAL AFTER HOUSE TESTIMONYDeputy Brandon Sikes of Columbia County, Georgia, was shot and killed during a traffic stop while serving a protective order. His wife serves with the same agency and continues to carry forward the mission they once shared.Officer Osmar Rodarte of the Marysville Police Department died in the line of duty during an operation targeting a violent, Mexico-based drug trafficking ring. He knew the risks and chose to serve anyway.Sergeant Joseph Azcona of Newark, New Jersey, was killed while working to remove illegal firearms from the streets. He was shot by a 14-year-old a stark reminder that our public safety challenges are evolving in complex and painful ways. These officers, and all the fallen, lived lives of honor and purpose. They ran toward danger so others could live in peace. That kind of service is not just noble its essential to a safe and functioning society. But this storied profession is under pressure. Officers today are expected to do more than ever: respond to fentanyl overdoses, dismantle gang networks, stop mass shootings, combat child exploitation, and manage the ripple effects of failed criminal justice policies. They endure long hours, personal sacrifice, and, far too often, public hostility. Recruiting challenges are real.We must meet this moment with resolve not despair. At the FBI, were stepping up. Ive redirected nearly 1,500 personnel from Washington, D.C., to field offices across the country to ensure our agents are where theyre needed most supporting state and local law enforcement shoulder to shoulder. We continue to train officers nationwide through our Officer Safety Awareness programs helping more than 90,000 officers stay safer on the job. Were smashing back against violent criminals, drug cartels, and trafficking networks threatening our communities.CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONBut the most important partnership of all is with you, the American public. As we mark National Police Week, I encourage every American to show appreciation not just with words, but with action. Report suspicious activity. Cooperate with law enforcement investigations. Teach your kids to respect the badge. And when you see an officer, thank them. A simple expression of gratitude goes further than most realize. The officers weve lost this year gave everything to uphold the law and protect the innocent. The ones still serving today carry that mission forward without hesitation, without fanfare, and without guarantees of safety. They serve with honor. Lets meet their sacrifice with a relentless show of force, action, and unwavering support. They have our backs. Its time we show we have theirs.

WWE star Zelina Vega recalls wrestling in NJ, making history as US champ and touts SummerSlam
WWE SummerSlam will be a two-night event for the first time in its history when the premium live event takes place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, later this summer. For Zelina Vega, it will be a homecoming of sorts.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThe current womens United States champion grew up two rivers to the east in Queens, New York, but got her legs underneath her as a wrestler in the Garden State, specifically in Union City."I was training at the Ace Arena in Jersey for a while," Vega shared with Fox News Digital in a recent interview. "Me and A.J. Lee actually trained together in Jersey and it also kind of helped me prepared for the role, if Im going to be honest, in Fighting with My Family to play her. It was just getting to know her then and applying that now and seeing it where it all kind of went down."But yeah, I spent a lot of time in New Jersey training and just that whole New York/New Jersey feel, it was just where I was constantly when I was coming."Vega won the Womens United States Championship in a match against Chelsea Green after WrestleMania 41. The title was added to the menu as another opportunity for the loaded womens roster on "SmackDown." The "Raw" roster has the Womens Intercontinental Championship.Vega told Fox News Digital previously that she hoped WWE was going to add a midcard title to the fold, and now she holds the belt the first singles championship of her career in the company.JEFF COBB MAKES WWE DEBUT AT BACKLASH, HELPS JACOB FATU RETAIN US TITLE"It feels amazing When I was growing up, I just wanted to be a part of it," she said. "And of course, I wanted to be champion. I made this huge thing in my mind when I was a kid, I was like, Im gonna be champion, this is gonna happen for me. I didnt see a Plan B in my mind."Now, its like, not only did you make it, not only youre champion, youre also a part of history. First-ever Queen of the Ring, like I never thought that was gonna happen. So, its still shocking me but also that eight-year-old Thea that was like trying to get all of this sorted out in my mind. I didnt see a Plan B, I was so stubborn. I was like, No, this is happening. So, proving her right, it feels like the most amazing feeling."Vega, as confident as ever that she will be walking into SummerSlam as the champion, also had advice for the young girls who are looking up at her."Its just, never give up on you because you will have so many nos, you will have so many people giving you reasons as to why you shouldnt be champion, why you shouldnt make it where you want to be," she explained to Fox News Digital. "But as long as you dont give up on you, no ones going to stop you."You dont take no for an answer and you dont give up on yourself. If I can do this and I can stand here as champion, it should be proven in so many peoples minds that your own determination is whats going to get you where you need to be."Fans interested in attending SummerSlam can get their tickets on Ticketmaster. The event will take place on Aug. 2 and Aug. 3."Its our first-ever two-night SummerSlam, which is crazy because usually thats only WrestleMania," she said. "Theres a lot of buzz about it. The whole week is really gonna be amazing because its in just where I grew up. So, its kinda cool to feel like its a coming home feeling, whether its Raw, SmackDown, and then the two-day SummerSlam. Its gonna be really fun."Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Arrow McLaren's Pato O'Ward reveals lessons learned from crushing Indy 500 runner-up finish in 2024
One year ago at this time, Arrow McLaren's Pato O'Ward had a dream. When he closed his eyes at night, O'Ward told Fox News Digital he would dream of crossing the finish line at the Indy 500 before the rest of his competition."I keep racing multiple Indy 500's in my head. Its crazy," he said last May. "You try and tone it down as much as you can, but this raceits unlike anything else."CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThe dream looked like it was about to come true when "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" saw O'Ward leading with one lap to go until Josef Newgarden came flying from behind and past the McLaren black and orange car to come away with the win.Instead of celebrating victory at "The Brickyard," O'Ward was slumped over his vehicle as his team tried to console him. For the second time in three years, O'Ward was runner-up.ARROW MCLAREN'S PATO O'WARD CONFIDENT AS HE DREAMS OF FIRST INDY 500 VICTORY: WEVE GOT A SHOT'"I mean, at that moment, it was a moment that a lot of emotions were kind of exploding out of a bottle, and they truly were uncontrollable," he told Fox News Digital recently before the big race on Memorial Day weekend. "It was a very raw scene of what its like to be just right there, but just missing it. Its been a few times that thats happened, so thats why I think it was such a heavy emotion."I dedicate and do everything for this moment, and sometimes its just right there, but havent quite gotten it. Its just the human side of it, I would say."Despite the results of the last few years in Indianapolis, O'Ward's optimistic outlook on his profession has not wavered entering this year's race."I mean, this time last year, I had like three [did not finish] by this point," he said while laughing."Its one of the only months all year when you really get to enjoy the present, and youre not focused on the future, youre not focused on the past. Youre just focused on where youre at. Its a very amazing experience."The sting of defeat is something that almost never leaves the mind, even one full year after it happens. However, with every failure, an opportunity to learn comes, and that is exactly what O'Ward is getting from last year's finish."You gotta be up at the front the last stint," he said when asked what he learned from last year's runner-up finish. "The last stint is super important, but also a race that can turn around one lap to another just because of a yellow flag falling. Theres a lot of different strategies going on, and its a race that constantly wants you to be flexible, agile. You need to adjust sails, rather than go against it."In five starts this season, O'Ward is still searching for his first victory, though he has two top-five and three top-10 finishes. As a result, he is currently ranked fourth in NTT IndyCar Series standings.Perhaps his best race of the year came at the 2025 Grand Prix of Indianapolis this past weekend, finishing runner-up behind Alex Palou. While O'Ward is not currently dreaming again about celebrating with his Arrow McLaren team, kissing the famed Yard of Bricks, and chugging some milk, as is custom for the champion, it is in the back of his mind somewhere. That moment is what continues to drive him, especially knowing how close he was to realizing that dream."I think at this point, its a combination of a lot of different things, but it hasnt been a reason like, Hey, weve been lucky to have these opportunities. No, weve put ourselves in these opportunities, and we have earned ourselves the position to have these opportunities," he said. "I think that alone just gives me a peace of mind along with my core team. We know how to do this, we know how to put ourselves in positions to win this race."I think, deep down, it gives us a lot of self-confidence of were not searching for something that weve never been in or were not searching for something that havent done."TheIndy500 will be broadcast May 25 on FOX with pre-coverage starting at 10 a.m. ET. It will also be available to stream live on FOXSports.comand the FOX Sports app.Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X, and subscribe tothe Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Pete Rose's last interviewer reacts to his Hall of Fame eligibility, praises Trump for kickstarting movement
John Condit was the last person to interview Pete Rose, doing so 10 days before his death for a documentary to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Rose breaking Ty Cobb's hit record. In that interview, the Major League Baseball (MLB) all-time hit king predicted that if he were to ever make the Hall of Fame, it would not be until after he died. Condit told Fox News Digital recently that he "began to shake" when he heard of Rose's death, considering what Rose had told him just days prior.Well, Rose's grim prediction is starting to look like it will come to fruition.MLB announced on Tuesday that those on baseball's ineligible list will be reinstated after their deaths - thus, Rose is now baseball eligible, along with "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and 15 others.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMIn turn, Rose is now eligible to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.Condit, a former sportscaster in nearby Dayton who grew up a Reds fan (Johnny Bench was his favorite), said that if Rose were to never be reinstated, the Cincinnati Reds' celebration of Rose at Great American Ball Park on Wednesday night (scheduled before Rose's reinstatement) would have possibly been the final true celebration of Rose. That is why Condit recently kick-started a petition to get President Donald Trump to pardon Rose, a move the president said he would do "in the coming weeks" back in March, before the Reds honor Rose on Wednesday night."I love the fact that President Trump is considering using his pulpit to make this right, at least in the eyes of millions of baseball fans who say he did a lot of bad things off the field, he lied, but darn it, statistically he should be in the Hall of Fame. And that cant happen unless baseball says were going to reinstate him,'" Condit said in an interview with Fox News Digital before MLB's recent decision.Baseball ended up saying that.Condit does not need to rely on the president anymore, and it is now increasingly likely that Rose will be celebrated in upstate New York."I'm extremely happy. My fear was if this did not happen, that the greatest moment for Pete Rose after his passing would be Wednesday night at Cincinnati. Instead, we've got a celebration in Cincinnati that we didn't have three hours ago," Condit told Fox News Digital shortly after Rose's reinstatement. "Now, we got a real shot, a real shot for him to get into the Hall of Fame, which is what Pete Rose fans want. So I'm ecstatic."The Hall of Fame decided in 1991, two years after Rose's ban, that it would not have voting processes for players on baseball's ineligible list. As long as Rose was barred from the sport, the Hall did not budge. So, Trump and Manfred met last month, and it is largely assumed they spoke about Rose. Condit said he is "grateful" to both Trump and Manfred for Rose's significantly boosted odds (no pun intended) of getting into Cooperstown.2-TIME MVP BRYCE HARPER TURNS BACK THE CLOCK WITH MAJOR CHANGE AMID SLUMP"I believe [Trump] played a significant role in this for two reasons. One, he loves baseball, he loves Pete Rose. Two, who wants to say no to a president?" Condit said. "Who wants to get on the wrong side of a president when there's so much up? I give Commissioner Manfred a lot of credit. He could have toed the line and said, 'I'm going to stay with the tradition of keeping this punishment in place, and it is a punishment.' Or 'I'm going to turn a page and offer forgiveness to Pete, Joe Jackson and others.' People are going to love this."Condit's history with Rose dates back to the 1980s. He was actually interviewing Rose in 1989 when one of Rose's agents interrupted to inform Rose that MLB had begun an investigation into him for gambling. He was also in the press room when then-MLB Commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti announced Rose's lifetime ban from the game."In 1989, before he got banned, I was at an event that Boomer Esiason ran for cystic fibrosis in the Cincinnati area. When Pete was done interviewing with me, I gave him a letter I wrote out and said, When you get on the plane, please read this. And it said if you did it, admit it. Were a very forgiving society, nobodys perfect, but if you did it, come clean now, and you will be forgiven by society. Itll be OK," Condit said in an interview with Fox News Digital before MLB announced its new ruling."When I interviewed him [last year], I asked him about that he didnt remember it, but I asked if he could do it differently. He said, 'No. I thought I could get away with it."That is why Condit understands both sides of the argument. Rose gambled on the game, lied about it for years and never seemed truly remorseful. Condit even said he wouldn't blame anybody for voting against Rose."No saint. In fact, did a lot wrong," Condit recently described Rose. However, "I believe in second chances and third chances and maybe seven chances. And I think statistically it's a great time to say, you know what? He paid his price. It's time for him to go to the Hall of Fame."Condit said he hopes the Rose family can eventually forgive Baseball and the Hall of Fame - even for Condit himself, there is still some anger."But all that ends well can be well, and this could end very, very well."Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X,and subscribe tothe Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

ESPN's Tony Kornheiser explains why Pete Rose's reinstatement doesn't guarantee Hall of Fame
Baseball fans are already calling for Pete Rose to enter the Hall of Fame after MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred announced he, alongside 16 deceased others, including "Shoeless" Joe Jackson, were taken off the permanently ineligible list on Tuesday. However, Manfred is not the one that would be placing Rose in the hallowed halls of Cooperstown, as ESPNs Tony Kornheiser reminded all those fans on Tuesday."Rob Manfred does not put you in the Hall of Fame. The baseball writers, who are members, put you in the Hall of Fame," Kornheiser said on "Pardon the Interruption.""Those baseball writers, as we know well, are guardians of the game. They take violations very seriously. Joe Jackson fixed games, OK? Pete Rose bet on games as a manager of one team. That doesnt go away."CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMFans rushed to social media to voice their displeasure that MLB had waited until now to take Rose off its permanently ineligible list. With that, many felt the Hall of Fame was the right next step to rectify Roses absence from the game since the early 1990s.Kornheiser, though, brought up another class of baseball players that baseball writers have not voted into the Hall yet. "You know who else is eligible for the Hall of Fame right now? Barry Bonds is eligible, Mark McGwire is eligible," he said. "Sammy Sosa, Roger Clemens, theyre eligible. Are they getting in any time soon? Doesnt look that way from the voting."PETE ROSE'S REINSTATEMENT HAS BASEBALL FANS IN UPROAR: WHAT A SHAME THEY WAITED UNTIL NOWNow, this is not to say Kornheiser does not want to see Rose in the Hall one day."As you know, Mike (Wilbon), I would put Pete Rose in the Hall of Fame," he added. "I would put his sins on the plaque and his accomplishments on the plaque. I agree that, when your life is gone, its OK to be eligible for something. But I do not see Pete Rose as a first-ballot Hall of Famer. I just dont."Rose, the MLBs all-time hits leader, was added to the permanently ineligible list after it was found he gambled on games while as a player and manager. Rose initially denied the accusations, but in 2004, he came clean and admitted to gambling.Manfred announced that the players ineligibility from the game ends upon their deaths."Obviously, a person no longer with us cannot represent a threat to the integrity of the game," Manfred wrote in a letter, obtained by ESPN, to attorney Jeffrey M. Lenkov."Moreover, it is hard to conceive of a penalty that has more deterrent effect than one that lasts a lifetime with no reprieve. Therefore, I have concluded that permanent ineligibility ends upon the passing of the disciplined individual, and Mr. Rose will be removed from the permanently ineligible list."PresidentDonald Trumpannounced in March he would pardon Rose, who served five months in prison in 1990. In 2017, Rose was accused of statutory rape from an encounter decades earlier."Major League Baseball didnt have the courage or decency to put the late, great, Pete Rose, also known as Charlie Hustle, into the Baseball Hall of fame. Now he is dead, will never experience the thrill of being selected, even though he was a FAR BETTER PLAYER than most of those who made it, and can only be named posthumously. WHAT A SHAME!"Trump posted.Rose may be eligible for the Hall of Fame now, but it will be up to the baseball writers to vote him in to make it official.Fox News' Ryan Morik contributed to this report.Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X, and subscribe tothe Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
