Pumpkin bread crushes the competition as fall favorites are revealed across America
It's finally starting to feel like fall in much of the country, and as people break out their sweaters and tune in to football, another festive favorite is returning."Every year theres arguing over whether pumpkin as a fall flavor is dying, or at least plateauing," said Mike Kostyo, a Chicago food "trendologist" with market research firm Datassential. "Overall, pumpkin and pumpkin spice are here to stay. Its a seasonal favorite in the same way peppermint is for winter."'Tis the season for pumpkin-flavored everything, but while demand is nearly universal, what people prefer it in depends on where in the U.S. they live.COSTCO SHOPPERS RAVE OVER SEASONAL PIE THAT'S NEARLY 4 POUNDS AND LESS THAN $6From breads and cookies to soup and seeds, pumpkin favorites vary state by state, according to an analysis of Google Trends by the blog Coffeeness. The company analyzed more than 30 different pumpkin-based foods and drinks including pumpkin ravioli and curry comparing search interest across all 50 states over the past year. While tastes vary by region, a few items clearly dominate. In the Northeast, for example, pumpkin purveyors favor muffins, cookies and other seasonal sweets.Pumpkin bread was the #1 searched item in 20 states, particularly across the south and Midwest: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington and West Virginia.IS EATING BREAD THAT'S BEEN FROZEN FIRST AND THEN TOASTED BETTER FOR YOU?Recipes for pumpkin bread date back to the 1830s and experts trace its roots to early American settlers who adapted European spice breads and puddings using the gourd popular among Native American tribes.Convenient, on-the-go pumpkin muffins followed as the top search in 11 states, including California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin.Pumpkin cookies were the favorite in Arizona, Delaware, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Utah, the analysis found.COFFEE CRAZE HITS HOME AS MORE AMERICANS EMBRACE IN-HOUSE CAF CULTURE"Some of what you're seeing in the search trends reflect that people are cooking at home more," Kostyo said. "That is partly because of pricing pressures, and it's much cheaper to cook at home, but also because we've seen a general shift towards people cooking at home since the pandemic."He added that social media recipe sharing has boosted interest in homemade treats like breads and muffins.A few states, however, prefer their pumpkin blended into a cozy soup. Florida, Texas, New York and Michigan all favor the savory option. In some parts of the Lone Star State, recipes even include citrus zest for a Southwestern twist.MORE FROM FOX NEWS LIFESTYLEIn warmer climates such as Hawaii, Louisiana and Mississippi, nutrient-packed pumpkin seeds were the top searched item, beating out heavier baked goods.Over the years, interest in savory pumpkin items has surged, according to Kostyo. "It was a natural white space opportunity for pumpkin after every sweet beverage and dessert was pumpkin-ified," he said. "It also reflected the fact that consumers kept asking for real pumpkin, not just pumpkin flavor, and real pumpkin on its own is actually savory."CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTERPumpkin pie topped the list in only North Dakota and Wyoming, while the iconic pumpkin spice latte was No. 1 in just South Dakota.Nonetheless, Starbucks announced that it saw its best Tuesday sales ever this year when it brought back the Pumpkin Spice Latte, Kostyo noted, proving that the seasonal favorite is far from fading. He said people likely arent searching for "pumpkin spice latte" because they already know where to find one.Iced lattes and other cold drinks are ways that warmer states can still get in on the action, Kostyo added. "That's also why apple options have been trending, because they work so well in cold drinks."

Conservative podcaster urges Dems to say 'enough is enough' to violence after receiving death threats
Conservative podcaster Benny Johnson is calling for an end to political violence after a shocking threat letter put his family on high alert in the wake of Charlie Kirk's assassination. Now he's asking how many more conservatives have to be targeted before Democrats take a stand."[Democrats] need to say enough is enough," Johnson said on "Saturday in America.""[They need to say], 'We're going to reconcile with the extremist left wing of our party. We're going to acknowledge that we have a problem, and we're going to do something about it,' but instead, they are nominating somebody for the attorney general of Virginia who is calling for exactly what happened to my family yesterday."RESURFACED SOCIAL MEDIA POST COMES BACK TO HAUNT DISGRACED DEM AG NOMINEE: 'DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT'Johnson's comments came in response to a threat letter that recently arrived at his home. On Friday, he stood alongside Attorney General Pam Bondi as she announced the arrest of a suspect accused of sending the letter. Johnson said the author graphically detailed how he would be killed in violent fashion."A man was charged for threatening my family, to kill me and to kill my children," "The Benny Show" host told Kayleigh McEnany."Jay Jones, who's running for attorney general in Virginia, he's on record doing the exact same thing calling for the killing of Republicans and the killing of Republican children, calling them, little fascists."Johnson argued Democrats' failure to call on Jones to drop out of the race has led to a "horrific culture."JOE SCARBOROUGH TELLS DEM CANDIDATE JAY JONES TO LEAVE RACE OVER VIOLENT COMMENTS AGAINST GOP LAWMAKERJones, who is running against Republican incumbent Jason Miyares for the attorney general spot in Virginia, has faced criticism for resurfaced 2022 text messages containing violent rhetoric about then-Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert and his family.Republicans, including Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, argue many Democrats' refusal to urge Jones to drop out of the race is a symptom of a larger problem within the party.CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTUREJohnson shared that sentiment, adding, "We [Republicans] just want peaceful debate. But this is a party [the Democratic Party] that is spiraling, and I think they've lost the debate, and because they've lost the debate, they are going to resort to violence, and it's awful to see.""It's something that I don't want for my country," he said."It's something that I want to see resolved, and the only way to resolve it is for Democrats to say enough. How many more of us need to die? How many times do we need to see our president shot in the head? How many more times do we need to see Charlie Kirks? How many more times do we need to see ICE facilities shot at? How many more Christian children praying in churches do we need to see slaughtered?"Johnson urged the nation to refocus on family values and Christianity to restore respect for life and reduce violent rhetoric.George Isbell Jr., 69, who allegedly wrote the threat letter to Johnson, was taken into custody Tuesday in San Diego, California. He will be federally charged with mailing a threatening communication, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi.Fox News' Greg Norman contributed to this report.

Hamas co-founder snaps after being questioned on Oct 7 aftermath: Go to hell
A prominent Hamas leader lost his temper and stormed off from a live interview after being pressed on the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks and the devastating impact of the subsequent war in Gaza.Mousa Abu Marzouk, Hamas longtime foreign-relations chief and a co-founder of the terror group, tried to justify his organizations crimes by saying that Hamas "fulfilled its national duty" and acted as "resistance to occupation" in an interview on Arabic television. The host shot back and questioned whether the Hamas attacks had helped the Palestinian cause and if they had achieved anything meaningful for the Palestinians, according to The Jerusalem Post.MORNING GLORY: TWO YEARS LATER, THE WORLD STILL FAILS TO GRASP ISRAEL'S 10/7 HORROR"Was what you did on October 7 to lead the Palestinians to liberation?" the host asked in the Friday night interview.Marzouk, who is based in Qatar and is one of Hamass founding members, bristled and insisted the question was disrespectful and that a small group of fighters could never "liberate" Palestine on its own."No sane person would claim that on October 7, with just a thousand or so fighters, it was possible to liberate Palestine," he said. The journalist then continued, saying: "I am asking you the questions that are being asked on the streets of Palestine, by theresidents of Gaza."As the exchange grew tense, Marzouk snapped.ISRAEL, HAMAS MEET IN EGYPT TO REVIVE TRUMP PEACE PLAN AHEAD OF OCT 7 ANNIVERSARY"These are your questions! Show some respect for yourself. I dont want to talk to you. I dont want to see you. Cut it out. Cut it out. Go to hell!" he said.Marzouks comments, which aired on the Egyptian-based Pan-Arab Al-Ghads "With Wael," quickly spread across social media and came amid growing infighting and turmoil within Hamas as the war comes to an end.Once seen as a polished Hamas spokesperson, Arab commentators saw his on-air outburst as a signal of a widening rift among the organizations leadership as Gaza lies in ruins.Jamal Nazzal, a spokesperson for the Palestinian political and nationalist movement Fatah, slammed Marzouks remarks.Nazzal said his comments were "a disgrace that exposes the moral and political bankruptcy of a crumbling group that can no longer look people in the eye," according to The Jerusalem Post.Earlier this year, Marzouk expressed regret over the Oct. 7 attacks, telling The New York Times he would not have supported the attack if he had known of the havoc it would wreak on Gaza."If it was expected that what happened would happen, there wouldnt have been Oct. 7," he said.Marzouk has been described in multiple reports as a billionaire, though his exact fortune remains unclear. In a statement posted after The New York Times' story, Hamas said that the comments were "incorrect" and taken out of context. The Israeli government approved and signed the first phase of the President Donald Trump-brokered ceasefire deal in Gaza overnight Thursday. The agreement includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

DiCaprio's 'One Battle After Another' draws heat from some critics amid rising left-wing political violence
Leonardo DiCaprio's newest film "One Battle After Another" is facing backlash from some critics, including "American Psycho" author Bret Easton Ellis, who argued that the films premiere was poorly timed given rising left-wing violence and its focus on a violent political revolution."Its kind of shocking to see these kind of accolades for Im sorry, its not a very good movie because of its political ideology, and its so obvious thats what theyre responding to," Eliis said on his podcast. "Why its considered a masterpiece, the greatest film of the decade, the greatest film ever made [is] because it really aligns with this kind of leftist sensibility."The "American Psycho" author asserted that the film would soon be viewed as "a kind of musty relic of the post-Kamala Harris era that thing everyone gathers around and pretends is so fantastic and so great when it really isnt, just to make a point Theres a liberal mustiness to this movie that already feels very dated by October 2025. Very dated."EXPERTS WARN LEFTIST CELEBRATIONS OF CHARLIE KIRK'S DEATH SIGNAL A DANGEROUS MAINSTREAM SHIFT IN POLITICSEllis rejected one film critic's opinion that "One Battle After Another" was an "important movie," arguing that the filmmakers failed to take the country's strenuous political climate into account."No, it is not. It has really not read the room," he countered. "It has not read the room at all about whats going on in America."The film, inspired by Thomas Pynchon's Reagan-era set novel "Vineland," follows The French 75, a Weather Underground-like group of self-described revolutionaries rebelling against what they believe is authoritarianism. The revolutionary group breaks illegal immigrants out of detention centers and bombs courthouses and offices of lawmakers who pushed abortion bans throughout the course of the film.LEONARDO DICAPRIO IS 'SLOWING DOWN A BIT' IN HIS NEW CAREER PHASE AFTER DECADES IN HOLLYWOODHollywood veteran Sean Penn also stars in the film from director Paul Thomas Anderson, playing Army Col. Steven Lockjaw a man auditioning for a secretive, elite White supremacist group known as the Christmas Adventurers. The organization wields significant political influence and devotes its time to hunting down members of The French 75.FoxNews.com columnist David Marcus slammed the movie as an "ill-timed apologia for left-wing violence," comparing it to "watching a World War II film in which viewers are meant to cheer for lovable Nazis.""What is missing here is even the slightest bit of nuance about the glorious necessity to kill people, including innocents, in order to topple Andersons weird and paranoid version of the American government," Marcus wrote in an opinion column last month.CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTUREThe conservative outlet National Review also criticized "One Battle After Another," warning that "there will be bloodlust" inspired by the film."Its a macabre coincidence that One Battle After Another opens so soon after the assassination of peaceable conservative debater Charlie Kirk," the outlet wrote. "The film undeniably romanticizes political assassination Anderson intentionally provokes the bloodlust of his woke confreres (and Gen Z viewers who know nothing about the Sixties) by celebrating the insipid, heretical, and violent activities of the liberal past and present. Andersons title lacks Pynchons pith but daydreams a culture of never-ending political obstruction and pandemonium. It is the years most irresponsible movie."Although some critics have voiced their concerns over the film's themes of political violence and revolution, it has been a massive hit at the box office bringing in over $100 million globally since its premiere in September and currently sits as the highest rated film of 2025 on Metacritic.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPFox News' Joseph A. Doctor's double life exposed after hidden camera discovery leads to prison murder plot
Stacey Rutherford believed she had found "a gold mine" when she married Justin Rutherford. But in 2021, the Pennsylvania mother of four made a discovery that would shatter her life. Hidden inside the bathroom of her family home was a secret camera planted by her second husband, a respected local physician. For years, it silently recorded, police said. What began as a shocking violation soon unraveled into something far darker.Justin, 36, pleaded guilty to sexually abusing his stepson and another minor, and was later convicted in a murder-for-hire plot. The disgraced doctor's twisted double life and his familys fight to reclaim their story are now the focus of the ABC News Studios true crime docuseries streaming on Hulu, "Betrayal: Under His Eye."DAUGHTER OF NOTORIOUS KILLER DAN LAFFERTY CHOOSES FORGIVENESS OVER HATRED AFTER DECADES OF SHAME"Theres a lot of shame and guilt," Rutherford told Fox News Digital. "You always think, as a mom, if you know your kids so well, and youre so close to them, how did you not see that something was broken? How did you not hone in on the fact that something wasnt right at home? The feeling gets less and less over time, but its also a feeling that never goes away."After struggling to find love, Rutherford, then a single mother of two, came across the charming medical student on a dating app in 2015. By the time they married in 2019, he was a practicing physician. They went on to welcome two more children."Initially, I really liked him," Rutherfords son, Tyler VanScyoc, told Fox News Digital. "My mom didnt bring too many men in, but I remember when she did introduce us to someone she was seeing, they really didnt speak a word to us. But this was different. He was actually interested in getting to know us. He asked about what we liked, what we wanted to do with our lives. He would throw a football around with us. I thought he was a good guy, a good match for my mom."Rutherford believed she had the perfect home life. But that all changed in the summer of 2021 when a teenage friend of VanScyocs discovered a hidden camera disguised as a phone charger in the family bathroom. The friend immediately informed his mother, who called the police, according to investigators.According to the docuseries, Justin captured thousands of photos of people showering, using the bathroom and changing their clothes.During the investigation, a friend of VanScyocs told police that Justin sexually assaulted him during a sleepover while the friend was under the influence of alcohol, GMA reported. VanScyoc later confessed that his stepfather had been sexually molesting him since he was 11.FOLLOW THE FOX TRUE CRIME TEAM ON X"Initially, I didnt think there was any courage there in my speaking out," VanScyoc explained. "I felt like I had to. And I think the more that I shared what happened to me, the more I was no longer letting it eat me alive."In the docuseries, VanScyoc described the deep shame he felt after coming forward. He recalled that whenever he tried to resist, his stepfathers demeanor would change. His anger surfaced quickly if VanScyoc didnt do exactly what he wanted. But once his friend spoke out, VanScyoc realized he couldnt stay silent any longer."When everything first came out, I didnt really hate him yet or anything," VanScyoc explained. "I didnt really feel many of those feelings. It took a while for it to turn into that. But there was a lot of guilt there."I just thought, Man, I took this whole guys life away. But he did take a lot away from me as well. And I was still connected to him in the aspect that he was my father for all those years. He was still my father. And when he wasnt doing what he did to me, or wasnt in his, I guess you would say, monster mode or whatever, he would act like a good dad. He treated me like any good dad would treat their kid.""He built a connection with me," the 20-year-old continued. "I think thats a lot of what he used against me. He built that connection with me, made me trust him, and made me love him as well. And I did. I loved him, cared about him, trusted him all those things. It was hard to learn that all of that was years and years of manipulation."Rutherford said she never noticed any red flags nothing that made her suspect the man she loved was hiding a dark secret.SIGN UP TO GET THE TRUE CRIME NEWSLETTER"When I was dating, my big fear was that somebody was going to hurt my children, and I wouldve been the one to bring that into their lives," she said. "I didnt introduce them to somebody right away. Knowing that I brought him into their world, knowing that the only reason he was in their world was because of me? Yes, I carried a lot of guilt. "Tyler was always a big snuggler, and he would snuggle on the couch with me. Hed snuggle on the couch with Justin. Looking at the photos now, it makes me sick. When I initially took them, I thought they were very sweet photos of my children being loved by a stepparent."Tyler always had friends over for games or to get in the pool with us. And Justin wasnt throwing himself at the kids. It was like the big brother wanting to play video games, and they didnt want him there. I saw those things as innocent.
