An 81-year-old inmate who was the "longest serving resident of South Carolina's Death Row" died of natural causes this week, officials said.Fred Singleton passed away Monday at the Kirkland Correctional Institutions infirmary, the South Carolina Department of Corrections announced on Friday. He was sentenced to die in 1983 for raping and strangling a woman in Newberry County and stealing her jewelry, according to court records.Singleton spent his last three decades in prison in legal limbo after the state Supreme Court ruled he wasn't competent to be executed because he didn't understand he could die in the electric chair and only answered questions from his attorneys with "yes" or "no," according to The Associated Press.However, the justices also decided in 1993 that Singleton's death sentence should remain in case advances in psychology allowed him to get better and that he couldn't be forced to take medication to improve his mental state only so he could be executed, the AP added.SOUTH CAROLINA COURT MOVES FORWARD EXECUTION OF COP KILLER WHO SAYS MOST LAWS ARE UNCONSTITUTIONALProsecutors said Singleton broke into the home of 73-year-old widow Elizabeth Lominick in 1982. Archaeologists recently unearthed the remnants of a historic royal palace from a Polish river, shedding light on a violent part of the country's history.The Museum of Polish History announced the discovery in a Sept. 10 press release. The artifacts were uncovered in the Vistula River in Warsaw, and were connected to the 17th-century royal residence Villa Regia.Officials described Villa Regia as "one of the most magnificent palaces of 17th-century Europe," before it was looted and destroyed during the Swedish Deluge, which lasted from 1655 to 1660.ANGLER EXPECTING A FISH PULLS UP RARE 700-YEAR-OLD SWORD: REAL TREASURESThe Swedish military occupied the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth during that time. "Family Matters" star Darius McCrary was arrested near the U.S.-Mexico border in California.According to arrest records obtained by Fox News Digital, the actor was arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol on Sunday, Oct. 5, on felony charges and is being held in a San Diego jail. He has not yet been sentenced and is not currently eligible for bail. The records list it as a "fugitive arrest."McCrary's rep, Ann Barlow, told Fox News Digital, "Darius was picked up at the Border of Mexico because he was partnering with a real estate developer that is building homes for the homeless in Tijuana, Mexico. At least four people are dead and 12 others were injured overnight in a shooting in Leland, Mississippi, at a downtown event taking place during Leland High School homecoming weekend, the citys mayor told Fox News Digital on Saturday.Leland Mayor John Lee said he had no information as to the identity of the shooter, who has not been located as of Saturday morning. The Church of England faced widespread mockery on Friday after it installed graffiti art on the walls and columns of the United Kingdoms oldest cathedral.Days after the first female Archbishop of Canterbury, Sarah Mullally, was appointed, visitors were surprised by a new display simulating graffiti painted over the masonry of one of Englands most famous places of worship.UK-based news outlet The Times reported that according to those working at the cathedral, the "Hear Us" installation, using large stickers simulating graffiti, was reportedly inspired by working with "marginalised communities and a team of skilled artists to create vibrant handwritten literature responding to the question: What would you ask God?" But how can considering sincere questions of faith and meaning within a place of worship be interpreted as sacrilegious or a travesty? Or how can a temporary transfer that will leave no mark or adhesive be seen as vandalism?"He continued, "We could easily have rendered the questions to God as medieval-style calligraphy or in Times New Roman, neatly hung on canvas within the Cathedral, but they would likely have gone unnoticed and unremarked upon - with few if any choosing to engage with the questions of faith and meaning at their heart."Monteith added, "People will love or hate our Hear Us installation, no question.
