NJ Showdown: Ciattarelli piles on Dem rival after heated debate with scathing new ads
FIRST ON FOX Hours after a fiery final debate in New Jersey's competitive and combustible 2025 showdown for governor, Republican nominee Jack Ciattarelli took aim at Rep. Mikie Sherrill, the Democratic nominee, over her surge in wealth during her years in Congress. In two new ads that were shared first with Fox News on Thursday, Ciattarelli spotlighted a widely panned appearanceby Sherrill on a popular radio show where she struggled to explain her wealth. The release of the ads came the day after Ciattarelli, after being accused of contributing to tens of thousands of opioid deaths in New Jersey, fired back that Sherrill "broke the law," as he pointed to a fine she paid four years ago for failing to timely disclose stock trades, as members of Congress are required to do under federal conflict-of-interest law.TRUMP LOOMS LARGE OVER 2025 ELECTIONSIn the ads, Ciattarelli said "as governor, I have a plan to fix our state. In Congress, the only thing Mikie Sherrill fixed was her bank account."The spots then use clips of Sherrill from her May interview on Charlamagne tha God's popular "The Breakfast Club" radio program."So I think we made money," Sherrill says in one clip when asked about reported millions in money she and her husband, a multinational investment bank senior manager, made in stock trades. In the other ad, she says, "I havent. I. I dont believe that I did, but Id have to go see what, what that was alluding to."HEAD HERE FOR THE LATEST FOX NEWS REPORTING ON THE 2025 ELECTIONSCiattarelli, in the ads, then argues, "Come on. Who wouldnt know if they made $7 million. New Jersey needs a governor who gets it. Mikie Sherrill doesnt. I do."The Ciattarelli campaign told Fox News Digital that it will spend $2 million to run the ads on broadcast and cable TV and streaming. At Wednesday's debate, Ciattarelli once again spotlighted the $400 fine Sherrill paid."I've never broken the law," he said. "She had to pay federal fines for breaking federal law on stock trades and stock reporting."Sherrill, firing back, said, "This is the same old misinformation that he continues to promote, because he knows that I don't trade in individual stocks, he knows I've gone above and beyond that. He also knows he promotes some garbage number, but he actually knows so much about my finances because they're all to the dollar."Questions over Sherrill's wealth were first raised by her rivals earlier this year in the Democratic primary race. But her responses in "The Breakfast Club" interview amplified the controversy, as the Ciattarelli campaign and allied Republican groups heavily criticized the four-term federal lawmaker.BLUE STATE REPUBLICAN RIPS DEMOCRATIC RIVAL FOR BLAMING EVERYTHING ON TRUMPThe claims by Ciattarelli have been amplified in recent weeks as the race between the two candidates has become increasingly bitter and personal.Sherrill's campaign has denounced the attacks, with spokesman Sean Higgins saying that his candidate had been transparent and argued that Ciattarelli, who is also a multimillionaire, was not."Mikie does not own or trade individual stocks, and has gone above and beyond releasing the exact values of her finances to the dollar," Higgins said in a statement.Ciattarelli, a former state lawmaker and a certified public accountant who started a medical publishing company before getting into politics and winning election as a state lawmaker, is making his third straight run for New Jersey governor. And four years ago, he grabbed national attention as he came close to upsetting Murphy. It was during the 2021 campaign that Ciattarelli's connection to opioid manufacturers first surfaced. Ciattarelli sold his company, which published content promoting the use of opioids as a low-risk treatment for chronic pain, in 2017."Youre trying to divert from the fact you killed tens of thousands of people by printing your misinformation, your propaganda," Sherrill charged. "I think our kids deserve better. I think the people you got addicted and died deserve better than you."VOTERS REACT TO FINAL NEW JERSEY GUBERNATORIAL DEBATECiattarelli responded, saying, "With regard to everything she just said about my professional career, which provided for my family, it's a lie. I'm proud of my career.""Shame on you," Ciattarelli added.Sherrill shot back, "Shame on you, sir."Cittarrelli then blamed the fentanyl crisis on former President Joe Biden's "open border" policies. And at a post-debate news conference, he claimed the attack by Sherrill was "a desperate tactic by a desperate campaign on behalf of a desperate candidate."Sherrill, asked after the debate if she had proof directly linking Ciattarelli to the opioid deaths, told reporters, "I guess hes not really expressed anything about this. I think theres a lot we dont know. I think he continues to not be very transparent about it."The two candidates also battled over the improper release of Sherrill's military records and why she was barred from attending her 1994 Naval Academy graduation, and support for President Donald Trump. And they took shots at each other over key issues, including New Jersey's sky-high energy costs, property taxes, immigration and the ongoing federal government shutdown.New Jersey and Virginia are the only two states to hold gubernatorial contests the year after a presidential election, which means the races traditionally grab outsized national attention. And this year's ballot box showdowns are viewed as crucial early tests of Trump's popularity and second-term agenda, and are considered key barometers ahead of next year's midterm elections for the U.S. House and Senate. The winner of next month's election in New Jersey will succeed term-limited Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy. While Democrats have long dominated federal and state legislative elections in blue-leaning New Jersey, Republicans are very competitive in gubernatorial contests, winning five out of the past ten elections. And in the 2025 race, political history favors both parties. The party that wins the White House tends to lose the New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial elections the following year, which favors the Democrats. But Democrats in New Jersey are also trying to buck history it's been over six decades since a party won three straight Garden State gubernatorial elections.

New York Times analysis says Trump has legitimate Nobel Peace Prize claim if Mideast peace deal holds
Following President Donald Trump's announcement that Israel and Hamas have agreed to phase one of a peace plan on Wednesday, The New York Times' David E. Sanger argued that his role in securing the deal could be the presidents "pathway to the Nobel Peace Prize.""For Mr. Trump, success in this venture is the ultimate test of his self-described goal as a deal maker and a peacemaker and a pathway to the Nobel Peace Prize he has so openly coveted," Sanger wrote on Wednesday. The New York Times White House correspondent maintained that Trump is on the brink of the "biggest diplomatic accomplishment of his second term," but warned that peace in the region is still far from guaranteed."If the peace plan moves forward, Mr. Trump may have as legitimate a claim to that Nobel as the four American presidents who have won the peace prize in the past, though with less bombast and lobbying," he wrote.ARDENTLY PRO-ISRAEL DEM SEN. JOHN FETTERMAN CONGRATULATES TRUMP FOR 'HISTORIC PEACE PLAN'"Much could go wrong in coming days, and in the Middle East it often does," Sanger cautioned. "The peace deal Mr. Trump heralded on Truth Social on Wednesday evening may look more like another temporary pause in a war that started with Israels founding in 1948, and has never ended."While expressing skepticism about the deals longevity, Sanger acknowledged that if Trump manages to sustain it, it would be an "extraordinary step toward the kind of peace plan Mr. Trump, and his predecessor, Joseph R. Biden Jr., have pressed to accomplish, despite many diversions down dark holes.""And if Mr. Trump can get Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to withdraw troops from Gaza City and give up on his plan to take control of the shattered remains of Gaza, if he can stop the carnage that has killed 1,200 people in Israel and more than 60,000 Palestinians, he will have done what many before him tried: outmaneuvered a difficult and now isolated ally," he added.WORLD LEADERS PRAISE 'LANDMARK' ISRAEL-HAMAS PEACE DEAL MEDIATED BY US: 'NEW HORIZON OF HOPE'Sanger hailed the Abraham Accords which normalized relations between Israel, the United Arab Emirates and several other Middle Eastern countries as Trump's "best international accomplishment" of his first term, but noted that the peace deal he's currently brokering "is an even bigger accomplishment."He also praised Trump and his administration for reining in Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as the bloody war in Gaza took a toll on Israel's reputation, which Sanger argued "may take a generation or more to repair."Still unsure whether the peace deal between Israel and Hamas would hold up long-term, Sanger cautioned that it is "far from clear that the conflict is truly ending," noting that getting Hamas to surrender its arms and control over Gaza may prove to be a much more difficult task.CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURETheodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama are the other four U.S. presidents who have won the Nobel Peace Prize. Federal judge limits ICE arrests without warrant, probable cause
A federal judge Tuesday ruled that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents violated a federal consent decree when arresting nearly two dozen illegal immigrants at the start of President Donald Trumps second term earlier this year.U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Cummings in Chicago federal court extended the consent decree that limits immigration agents authority to make warrantless arrests until February 2026.Cummings also ordered ICE to start making monthly disclosures of how many warrantless arrests agents make each month. The ACLU of Illinois and other Chicago immigration advocates sued the Department of Homeland Security and ICE in March, alleging that the January arrests of at least 22 people violated a 2022 consent decree that bans ICE from arresting people without warrants or probable cause.TRUMP SAYS CHICAGO MAYOR, ILLINOIS GOVERNOR 'SHOULD BE IN JAIL FOR FAILING TO PROTECT' ICE OFFICERS"Todays decision makes clear that DHS and ICE like everyone else must follow the Constitution and the law," Michelle Garca, deputy legal director at the ACLU of Illinois and co-counsel in the case, said in a statement. "The federal governments reckless practice of stopping, harassing and detaining people and then finding a justification for the action must end."Trump deployed Texas National Guardtroops in Illinois this week for an initial 60-day period to help with his administrations crime crackdown and deportation rollout.CHICAGO MAYOR CREATES 'ICE-FREE ZONES' TO BLOCK FEDERAL AGENTS FROM CITY PROPERTYChicago has sought to thwart ICE's deportation efforts, with Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Gov. Scammers now impersonate coworkers, steal email threads in convincing phishing attacks
Cybercriminals are getting smarter every day, and one of their most convincing tricks is disguising phishing emails to look like they're coming from people you trust. Work emails are particularly dangerous because they lower your guard. After all, if the sender is your boss or IT department, why would you suspect anything? Unfortunately, scammers know this and use it to their advantage. I recently received an email from Krysti from Rockwall, Texas, who highlighted a similar issue."I received a spam email from my employer's email. It had a document attached to it. I tried to open it and could not. I contacted my employer and they told me they hadn't sent me anything. I changed my password and ran a virus scan. I also have been checking on the dark web for anything coming up on me. So far everything is okay. I did sign up for antivirus software based on your recommendation and we are signed up for identity theft protection. Is there anything else I should do?"Incidents like this are more common than many realize, Krysti. And while it sounds like you took the right first steps by changing your password, scanning for malware and monitoring for identity misuse, there are a few additional precautions worth taking. A close call is often a warning sign that your digital habits might need tightening. Let's break down why these attacks are so dangerous and what everyone should do to make sure they're fully protected.Sign up for my FREE CyberGuy ReportGet my best tech tips, urgent security alerts and exclusive deals delivered straight to your inbox. Plus, youll get instant access to my Ultimate Scam Survival Guide free when you join myCYBERGUY.COM newsletter.PROTECT YOURSELF FROM SNEAKY WEB INJECTION SCAMSPhishing attempts that impersonate coworkers or employers are particularly effective because they rely on trust and urgency. You're more likely to open an attachment or click a link if you believe it's tied to your job. Scammers often spoof legitimate email addresses or use addresses that look almost identical to the real ones, hoping you won't notice the subtle difference.Once you interact with these emails, the risks multiply. Opening a malicious attachment could install spyware or ransomware. Clicking a fake link might lead to a login page designed to harvest your credentials. Even if nothing obvious happens right away, attackers could still be collecting background information to use in a future attack. These scams are becoming harder to spot, too. Some are powered by artificial intelligence-generated text, making them free of the usual grammar mistakes that used to be obvious red flags. Others use stolen email threads to insert themselves into ongoing conversations. That's why even seasoned professionals fall for them.GOOGLE CONFIRMS DATA STOLEN IN BREACH BY KNOWN HACKER GROUPChanging your password or running a malware scan is often not enough to stop attackers. It's worth going a little further to make sure nothing slipped through. Start by checking your login history to see if there are any unauthorized sign-ins on your email or work accounts. Most platforms allow you to review recent activity, including device type and location, and if anything looks suspicious, sign out of all sessions immediately and change your password again. Next, enabletwo-factor authentication on your email and any other critical accounts. Even if attackers manage to steal your password, they won't be able to gain access without the second verification step. It's also important to alert your IT team, especially if the email appears to come from your employer's address. This could mean the company's email system has been compromised, and notifying them will allow them to investigate and secure other accounts if necessary. Finally, make sure all your software is up to date. Malware often exploits vulnerabilities in outdated systems, so regularly updating your operating system, antivirus and productivity tools adds another layer of protection against future attacks.DONT FALL FOR THIS BANK PHISHING SCAM TRICKSome cyber threats don't reveal themselves immediately. Scammers often collect small bits of data over time or wait weeks before trying to use what they've stolen. The following steps are actions anyone can take to make sure their device and personal data remain secure, and to catch any signs of compromise before they turn into serious problems.1) Consider a personal data removal serviceThe more personal information about you that's publicly available, the easier it is for scammers to target you. Data removal services can help by scanning hundreds of data broker websites and removing your details from them. Reducing this digital footprint not only makes it harder for attackers to build profiles on you but also limits how easily phishing attempts can be tailored to your life. While no service can guarantee the complete removal of your data from the internet, a data removal service is really a smart choice. They arent cheap, and neither is your privacy. These services do all the work for you by actively monitoring and systematically erasing your personal information from hundreds of websites. Its what gives me peace of mind and has proven to be the most effective way to erase your personal data from the internet.By limiting the information available, you reduce the risk of scammers cross-referencing data from breaches with information they might find on the dark web, making it harder for them to target you.Check out my top picks for data removal services and get a free scan to find out if your personal information is already out on the web by visitingCyberguy.com.Get a free scan to find out if your personal information is already out on the web:Cyberguy.com.HOW FAKE MICROSOFT ALERTS TRICK YOU INTO PHISHING SCAMSYour information could already be circulating in breach dumps and underground markets without you realizing it. Identity protection services monitor known dark-web sources, forums and leak sites for your email, phone, SSN and other sensitive details. If they find a match, they alert you so you can act quickly: change passwords, turn on two-factor authentication and place fraud alerts or credit freezes with the credit bureaus.Your information might already be circulating in dark web marketplaces without you realizing it. Identity theft protection services can help by continuously scanning those underground sites for your email, passwords or other sensitive details. If your data does show up, these services notify you right away so you can reset credentials, freeze accounts or take other protective actions before the information is misused.See my tips and best picks on how to protect yourself from identity theft atCyberguy.com.Even if you never shared payment details, attackers may attempt account takeovers or fraudulent transactions using any information they have. Review your bank, credit card and online account statements frequently for unusual activity. Pairing this habit with identity theft protection tools gives you an added safety net, as they often include financial monitoring and fraud alerts to catch problems quickly.Email accounts are often the central hub for many other services. If your inbox is compromised, attackers might try to break into linked accounts such as cloud storage, messaging apps or collaboration tools. Check each of these services for unfamiliar logins, permission changes or device activity, and secure them by changing passwords and enabling two-factor authentication.Weak or reused passwords are one of the easiest ways for attackers to break into accounts after a breach. A password manager solves this by generating and storing strong, unique passwords for every site you use. It also acts as a passive phishing detector. If the tool doesn't autofill a login form, that's a sign the page could be fake. Over time, this significantly reduces your risk of falling victim to credential-based attacks.Next, see if your email has been exposed in past breaches. Our No. 1 password manager pick includes a built-in breach scanner that checks whether your email address or passwords have appeared in known leaks. If you discover a match, immediately change any reused passwords and secure those accounts with new, unique credentials.Check out the best expert-reviewed password managers of 2025 atCyberguy.com.Modern cyber threats go beyond viruses. A strong antivirus solution now acts as a full security layer, blocking phishing websites, detecting malicious scripts and stopping suspicious activity before it can compromise your device. If you've interacted with a suspicious attachment or link, a reputable antivirus tool can catch malware that might still be hiding in the background. The best way to safeguard yourself from malicious links that install malware, potentially accessing your private information, is to have strong antivirus software installed on all your devices. This protection can also alert you to phishing emails and ransomware scams, keeping your personal information and digital assets safe.Get my picks for the best 2025 antivirus protection winners for your Windows, Mac, Android and iOS devices atCyberguy.com.Most major platforms allow you to turn on alerts for unusual account activity, such as new sign-ins, password resets or changes to security settings. These real-time notifications act as an early warning system, giving you a chance to lock down your accounts before significant damage occurs.Close calls like this are unsettling, but they are also valuable wake-up calls. Cybercriminals are constantly refining their tactics, and phishing emails that once looked laughably fake can now be nearly indistinguishable from the real thing. The key is to build layers of defense, not just reactive steps after an incident, but proactive habits that make you a harder target in the first place.Have you ever clicked on an email that turned out to be a scam? White House slams Schumer's 'disgusting' statement on shutdown as political standoff continues
The White House slammed Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., for making a "disgusting and revealing" comment about the ongoing shutdown.Schumer spoke with Punchbowl News, an outlet based in Washington, D.C., and said that as the shutdown continues, things keep getting "better" for the Democrats."Every day gets better for us," Schumer reportedly told Punchbowl News. "Its because weve thought about this long in advance, and we knew that health care would be the focal point on Sept. 30, and we prepared for it Their whole theory was threaten us, bamboozle us, and we would submit in a day or two."GOP BLAMES SCHUMER FOR SHUTDOWN TO APPEASE 'MARXIST FLANK' AMID AOC PRIMARY CHALLENGE BUZZRepublicans have blamed Schumer for the shutdown, saying it was meant to appease the Democrat Partys progressive wing, particularly in his home state as Zohran Mamdani maintains the lead in New York City's mayoral race and buzz swirls regarding Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., potentially challenging Schumer in the next primary. She has not formally declared a Senate bid."Chuck Schumer just said the quiet part out loud: Democrats are gleefully inflicting pain on the American people over their push to give illegal aliens free health care," White House deputy press secretary Abigail Jackson said in a statement provided exclusively to Fox News Digital."Workers are missing paychecks; travelers are missing flights; businesses are struggling; military families are forced to rely on food pantries; but to Chuck Schumer that means every day gets better. No matter what Chuck Schumer thinks, Americans struggling is not good and the Democrats must stop inflicting this pain on them and reopen the government now," Jackson added. In response to Fox News Digital's request for comment, Schumer's office sent an excerpt from his remarks on the Senate floor."Every day that Republicans refuse to negotiate to end this shutdown, the worse it gets for Americans and the clearer it becomes whos fighting for them. Each day our case to fix healthcare and end this shutdown gets better and better, stronger and stronger because families are opening their letters showing how high their premiums will climb if Republicans get their way. Theyre seeing why this fight matters its about protecting their healthcare, their bank accounts and their futures," Schumer said.BLAME GAME: REPUBLICANS CLAIM SCHUMER FORCED SHUTDOWN 'BECAUSE HES TERRIFIED' OF AOC PRIMARY CHALLENGEWhite House press secretary Karoline Leavitt also took issue with Schumer saying that the shutdown was good for the Democrats."While federal workers stress over missed paychecks, military families turn to food pantries, and airports around the country face delays Chuck Schumer and the Democrats are bragging that every day gets better for them," Leavitt wrote on X. "What a disgusting and revealing statement. Democrats are gleeful about inflicting pain on the American people."On Wednesday, the White House said it would be ramping up consequences for the shutdown. The White Houses Office of Management and Budget (OMB) floated plans that would not guarantee that federal workers currently furloughed from the shutdown would receive backpay upending a 2019 law from President Donald Trumps first administration in the aftermath of a 35-day shutdown, Fox News Digital learned. The threat of furloughed workers failing to receive backpay increases the stakes every day that Congress fails to pass a funding measure and puts greater pressure on Democrats as Trump continues to accuse them of creating the crisis.Fox News Digitals Diana Stancy, Deirdre Heavey and Elizabeth Elkind contributed to this report.

Hakeem Jeffries leads prayer event over shutdown after passing on Charlie Kirk vigil
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., organized a prayer vigil for the federal government on the ninth day of the ongoing shutdown. The House Democratic leader organized the event, called the "Interfaith Rally and Faith Vigil for Health Justice," outside a church in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, featuring Christian, Jewish and Muslim faith leaders alongside other Democratic lawmakers. They pushed congressional Republican leaders to find a bipartisan route to fund the federal government that also includes concessions from Republicans on healthcare policy.House Democratic leaders' appearance is a contrast to their absence from the Capitol Hill vigil held by GOP lawmakers last month in honor of assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk.Several rank-and-file Democrats did attend that vigil, but when reporters asked Jeffries at the time why he was not there, he answered simply, "I had a meeting."HAKEEM JEFFRIES' 4-WORD ANSWER TO WHY HE SKIPPED CHARLIE KIRK VIGILAt his event Thursday, Jeffries said, "I grew up in church learning, of course, that what the Bible teaches us is to stand up for the least amongst us the lost, the left behind, those whose stations in life may not have always dealt them the best of hands.""And unfortunately, what we're dealing with right now in the United States Congress is a group of people who we sometimes say they go to church, and they pray on Sunday. But then they come to Washington, D.C., and they prey p-r-e-y on the American people for the rest of the week, prey on the poor, prey on the sick, prey on the afflicted."SENATE REPUBLICANS CONFIRM MORE THAN 100 TRUMP NOMINEES AS GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN CONTINUESHe referenced a verse from the New Testament, "We are troubled on every side, but not distressed, perplexed, but never in despair," to further hammer Republicans' resistance to Democrats' demands."I think it's fair to say that we've got trouble all around us. A hater in the White House, haters in the Congress, haters throughout the Cabinet, trouble all around us. But we're not distressed because we believe in the resilience and the goodness of the American people," Jeffries said.Other lawmakers who spoke included House Minority Whip Katherine Clark, D-Mass., and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.The government shut down at midnight on Oct. 1, the beginning of fiscal year (FY) 2026, after Democrats and Republicans failed to agree on a spending deal. The House passed a bill last month to keep the federal government funded at FY2025 levels through Nov. 21. It was largely free of policy riders, save for an added $88 million in security spending for lawmakers, the White House, and the judicial branch. That measure, called a continuing resolution (CR), was aimed at giving congressional negotiators more time to strike a longer-term deal for FY2026.But Democrats in the House and Senate were infuriated by being sidelined in federal funding talks. They have been pushing for an extension of Obamacare subsidies enhanced during the COVID-19 pandemic that are set to expire at the end of 2025.Democrats have also introduced a counter-proposal for a CR that would keep the government funded through Oct. 31 while reversing the GOP's cuts to Medicaid made in their "one big, beautiful bill."The counter-proposal would have also restored federal funding to NPR and PBS that was cut by the Trump administration earlier this year.Republicans have panned that plan as a nonstarter full of partisan demands, while pointing out that Democrats have voted for a "clean" measure similar to the GOP proposal 13 times during former President Joe Biden's time in office.Another speaker, the Rev. Leslie Copeland-Tune of the National Council of Churches, criticized Republicans' policy bill during her remarks at the rally."I declare to you today, not having healthcare for 24 million people so that rich people can be richer is terror on the Earth. I declare to you today that cutting food stamps and SNAP and other food programs is terror on the Earth," she said."We pray, Oh God, that you would turn stony hearts to flesh and turn those who would do wrong to make them do right. God, we pray that you would help us to meet this moment, to do our assignment, and to be courageous while we do it."Senate Democrats have now sunk the GOP's plan in six separate votes and are poised to do so again on Thursday.

ESPN pundits, including Ryan Clark and Pat McAfee, apologize for jumping gun on claims about Kyren Lacy
Ryan Clark, Pat McAfee and Scott Van Pelt gave strong reactions to the evidence that attempted to prove Kyren Lacy innocent of allegedly causing a fatal wreck last year. However, when Louisiana State Police issued their own surveillance to defend their findings that Lacy's "reckless operation" eventually led to a 78-year-old man's death, they walked back their earlier sentiments.Upon seeing the video, Van Pelt said Monday night that he could not "recall ever seeing something that made me react viscerally to the point that I felt like my hands were trembling."CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"There is video to show this is not what happened, and this young man took his life," Van Pelt said of Lacy, who died by suicide in April.Clark said Lacy "died having to live with the guilt and the consequences of a guilty man, knowing he was innocent," and "police tried to coerce and doctor and use ways to manipulate statements that put this young man behind bars."On Wednesday, after police released their findings, Van Pelt issued a monologue on his ESPN show, apologizing "for the incomplete reaction that aired on this show Monday night.""Lacy faced several charges, including felony negligent homicide, but died by suicide days before a grand jury was set to convene meaning his guilt or innocence will never be determined in a criminal court. The one certainty here is that this was a senseless tragedy in December, magnified by a second life lost in April," Van Pelt added. On Thursday's edition of "First Take," Clark said "it's always important to me that I gather all factual and important information to provide the complete story... and when discussed in real time on Monday evening, I failed to do so. And for that, I apologize."McAfee, after seeing Lacy's attorney's claims, said he "didn't do it" and "we gotta get that s--- right," via OutKick."We thought we had more context. Now, more video has been made available and it shows even more context. It shows Kyren Lacy driving on the wrong side of the road and could have easily made the case that he caused the car to swerve and the tragic accident. We apologize for adding any more heat. We will continue to stay on top of the news breakings and this story. This is tragically sad and involves an athletes legacy," McAfee also said Tuesday.FORMER PENN STATE, OHIO STATE PLAYER CHARGED WITH HOMICIDE, DUI AFTER GIRLFRIEND DIES IN FATAL ATV CRASHLouisiana State Police released a "Critical Incident Briefing Video" that appeared to show that Lacy was driving at "a high rate of speed, passing three passenger vehicles and one loaded 18-wheeler in a designated no-passing zone with a 40 mph posted speed limit. The briefing video showed bodycam footage of one witness the driver of the 18-wheeler saying Lacy caused the wreck. That witness said the driver of a gold truck traveling north slammed on the brakes as Lacys Charger approached southbound, causing a female driver in a Kia Cadenza behind the gold truck to swerve into the southbound lane to avoid the truck. The Cadenza then crashed into the Kia Sorrento carrying Herman Hall, which was traveling south. Hall died as a result of his injuries."The gold truck traveling north veered right to avoid a head-on collision with the green Charger. As the gold truck veered right, the driver of the Kia Cadenza saw the approaching green charger. In reaction, the Kia Cadenza driver swerved left into the southbound lane and impacted a northbound Kia Sorrento," police said, adding that the driver of the gold truck "reacted appropriately" to avoid a crash with Lacy.Lacy's attorney Matt Ory said Lacy could not have caused the crash, considering he was nearly a football field's distance away from the wreck by the time he got back into the correct lane."At the time of impact, hes 72.6 yards behind the vehicles at the time of impact. Key word: behind the vehicles. That is not how this story was ever painted. Never," Ory said. However, police said, "All evidence collected supports the conclusion that Lacy's reckless operation of the green Charger into oncoming traffic triggered the chain of events involving the other drivers, ultimately resulting in the fatal crash."Follow Fox News Digitals sports coverage on X and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Arkansas coach John Calipari proposes solution to save college basketball amid NIL, transfer portal chaos
Arkansas Razorbacks coach John Calipari has a solution to improve college basketball.Since NIL has taken over collegiate sports, players have the ability to make money off their name, image and likeness. The NCAA allows undergraduate athletes to transfer and be immediately eligible for competition, regardless of how many times a player has transferred.Between NIL and the looser transfer rules, player movement is higher than ever as players are free to pursue more lucrative NIL deals after every season.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMCalipari, 66, talked about a potential solution that could help fix the issues brought on by NIL and the transfer portal during an appearance on OutKicks "Dont @ Me with Dan Dakich.""Youve got five years to play, and you can play all five. But if you get hurt twice, you got buzzard luck," Calipari told Dakich.Caliparis solution allows for two transfers. The first transfer, you can play right away at your new school, but if a player were to transfer a second time, they would have to sit out. Sitting out for a season would be costly, as under Caliparis proposal, players have a maximum of five playing seasons."If you want to transfer once, go ahead, you transfer a second time and sit out, thats going to cut into one of your years, but you can do it. And then you play at one school three years, you get your college degree," Calipari said.NCAA COMMITTEE ADOPTS PLAN SEEKING TO LIFT BAN ON COLLEGE ATHLETES PLACING WAGERS PROFESSIONAL SPORTS"This is fair, it makes sense. Come on, why arent we doing this stuff? We dont need government to tell us (that), let us do it."Calipari said if something like his proposal isnt implemented in the next three to five years, the NCAA will disband."If its not, this will all break up, you are going to have no NCAA, which I called for about 10 years ago, 12 years ago, and I was about right on the money because they run out of people to p--- off, they got no one else more to p--- off," Calipari said. The four-time SEC Coach of the Year said that the NCAA loses every lawsuit against them."Every suit that theyve had, what happens to them? Anytime they're sued, what?" Calipari asked.EX-AUBURN COACH BRUCE PEARL ISSUES GRAVE WARNING 2 YEARS AFTER OCT 7 TERROR ATTACKS"They lose," Dakich responded."Why? Because, (the NCAA is) not fair. The Supreme Court voted 9-0 against them, do you know the last time the Supreme Court was together on anything? It was like bussing back in the '60s."The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 in 2021 in NCAA v. Alston, ruling that the NCAAs rules that limited educational benefits for student-athletes violated federal antitrust laws. The ruling opened the door for NIL to enter college athletics.Calipari is set to enter his second season at Arkansas and has coached college basketball for 33 seasons. He began his head coaching career at UMass for seven seasons, then spent nine seasons at Memphis, 15 seasons at Kentucky and then went to Arkansas prior to the 2024-25 season.Calipari won the NCAA championship with Kentucky in 2011-12 and has taken six different teams to the Final Four.Last season with Arkansas, Calipari went 22-14 and made the NCAA tournament but was knocked out in the Sweet 16.Caliparis full interview with Dakich will air on OutKick on Thursday.Follow Fox News Digitals sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
