New projection signals good news for families, workers in Trump's 'big, beautiful bill'
FIRST ON FOX: A key U.S. economic agency is projecting that President Donald Trump's tax policy in his "one big, beautiful bill" will lead to increased take-home pay for American families and higher wages for U.S. workers. The Council of Economic Advisers (CEA), which advises the White House on economic policy, released a report on Monday morning that said, "Taken as a whole, the CEA estimates that the tax cuts in the Presidents proposals and the One Big Beautiful Bill will substantially boost investment and GDP relative to if expiring provisions from the [Tax Cuts and Jobs Act] are not extended."Congressional Republicans are working to permanently extend Trumps 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), as well as implement a list of new, shorter-term Trump tax policies, like eliminating penalties on tipped and overtime wages, while granting seniors an added tax deduction.Republican leaders have warned that failure to extend TCJA could lead to a tax increase of up to 22% for millions of families.MEET THE TRUMP-PICKED LAWMAKERS GIVING SPEAKER JOHNSON A FULL HOUSE GOP CONFERENCEHowever, extending them could lead to more money in peoples pockets in the long run, the CEA said."For workers and families, the CEA forecasts that wages will be about $6,100 to $11,600 higher, with family take-home pay $7,800 to $13,300 higher because of the increase in wages and reduction in tax obligations," the new analysis said. The CEA said the added deduction for seniors, meanwhile, would increase the average take-home pay for qualifying seniors by approximately $400 to $450 per year.If passed, the policies would also boost U.S. investment in the long run from 4.9% to 7.5%, according to the projection, and could save or create as many as 4.2 million full-time equivalent jobs in the long run.It also estimated that Trumps "no tax on tips" proposal alone would increase tipped workers pay by an average $1,675 per year, while eliminating the tax on overtime wages "will cause overtime workers to increase their overtime hours by 4.7 percent, leading to a 0.2 percent increase in aggregate labor supply while the provision is in effect.""As a result, the level of GDP increases by 0.1 to 0.2 percent in the short run. The average overtime worker receives a tax cut of between $1,400 and $1,750 per year," the projection said.White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a Monday morning briefing, "This bill will give Americans the largest tax cuts in our nation's history. When Republicans pass the bill, Americans will be keeping more of their hard-earned money and taking home much bigger paychecks.""If Democrats get their way and the Trump tax cuts are not extended, Americans will face the largest tax hike in history to the tune of $4 trillion. Republicans must not side with Democrats in helping them raise taxes," Leavitt added. It comes as Democrats accuse Republicans of trying to gut critical programs like Medicaid and Social Security to secure tax increases for wealthy Americans. They have pointed to projections like those by the Joint Committee on Taxation, which said people making less than $50,000 per year would get $263 in tax relief, and those making over $1 million would get more than $81,000.ANTI-ABORTION PROVIDER MEASURE IN TRUMP'S 'BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL' COULD SPARK HOUSE GOP REBELLIONHowever, Republicans have argued they are focused on aiding the working and middle classes with Trumps tax bill while not raising taxes on any Americans.Rep. Mike Haridopolos, R-Fla., also pointed out last week that the Republicans bill does not touch the top income tax bracket."I kept hearing this idea that were cutting taxes on the rich," Haridopolos said, referring to conversations by his Democratic colleagues on the House floor last week."The current rate is 37%. Under our new proposed bill, its still 37%. Were keeping that rate static, were not cutting taxes for the rich. What we need to do, of course, is invest in the people again the best way you do that is offer tax relief."Republicans are working to pass Trumps policies on tax, immigration, energy, defense, and the national debt all in one massive bill via the budget reconciliation process.Budget reconciliation lowers the Senates threshold for passage from 60 votes to 51, thereby allowing the party in power to skirt the minority in this case, Democrats to pass sweeping pieces of legislation, provided they deal with the federal budget, taxation, or the national debt.House Republicans are hoping to advance Trumps bill through the House by the end of this week, with a goal of a final bill on the presidents desk by Fourth of July.

Supreme Court allows Trump admin to move ahead with ending protected legal status for some migrants
The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to lift an injunction against the Trump administration blocking it from ending protections for hundreds of thousands of migrants in the U.S. a win for Trump's immigration agenda. The ruling will allow the Trump administration to move forward with its plans to terminate Biden-era Temporary Protected Status (TPS) protections for roughly 300,000 Venezuelan migrants living in the U.S., possibly subjecting them to immediate removal.U.S. Solicitor General John Sauer asked the Supreme Court to lift the injunction, arguing that a federal judge overstepped by blocking the government from ending the program for certain Venezuelans.TRUMP ADMINISTRATION ASKS SUPREME COURT TO REVIEW EL SALVADOR DEPORTATION FLIGHT CASE"The district courts reasoning is untenable," Sauer told the high court, adding that the program "implicates particularly discretionary, sensitive, and foreign-policy-laden judgments of the Executive Branch regarding immigration policy."At issue was the TPS program, a program that allows individuals from certain countries to live and work in the U.S. legally if they cannot work safely in their home country due to a disaster, armed conflict or other "extraordinary and temporary conditions."The protections were extended during the end of the Biden administration, shortly before Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in February abruptly terminated the program for a specific group of Venezuelan nationals, arguing they were not in the national interest. In March, U.S. District Judge Edward Chen agreed to keep the protections in place, siding with plaintiffs from the National TPS Alliance in ruling that the termination of the TPS program, which is extended in 18-month increments, is "unprecedented," and suggested that the abrupt termination may have been "predicated on negative stereotypes" about Venezuelan migrants. This was disputed bitterly by Sauer bitterly disputed in their appeal to the Supreme Court. In it, he also accused the lower court judge of improperly intruding on the executive branchs authority over immigration policy."Forceful condemnations of gang violence and broad questioning of the integrity of the prior administrations immigration practices, including potential abuses of the TPS program, do not evince discriminatory intent," Sauer said, describing Judge Chen's descriptions as "cherry picked" and "wrongly portrayed" as "racially tinged."This is a breaking news story. Colorado Christian summer camp sues state for requiring access to gender identity-friendly facilities
A Christian camp that has been operating since 1948 in Colorado is suing the state after the camp was told that it had to accommodate gender expression in bathrooms and a variety of other spaces."They feel like they're honoring God in what they're doing, and I feel like they should do that, to operate in a way that's consistent with that," camp volunteer and mother Leah Rohwer told CBS News in an interview. The camp, known as Camp IdRaHaje, which is short for "I'd Rather Have Jesus," has refused to obey the state government's demands that it accommodate gender expression in camp facilities.KENNEDY CENTER PROMOTES FIRST EXPLICITLY PRO-CHRISTIAN FEATURE IN YEARS AS PART OF NEW FAMILY-FRIENDLY FOCUSIt is a conflict that is personal for Rohwer, who told CBS that she has a family member who identifies as transgender."I have a heart for the kids that feel like they don't fit in their body," Rohwer said. "I love those kids and I'm not saying anything bad about any of those kids or family members, whoever it might be, but I feel like we shouldn't stomp on someone's religious freedom to try and help those folks.""Camp IdRaHaJe has faithfully served and ministered to Colorado children of all backgrounds and faiths since 1948 and has successfully maintained its resident camp license since it first received one in 1995," camp Executive Director Mike DeBoer said in a statement."The new policy of the Colorado Department of Early Childhood, however, is asking IdRaHaJe to choose between upholding its Biblical beliefs about biological sex and risk losing its license or abandoning its beliefs and mission by forcing girls and boys to shower, dress, and share sleeping quarters with campers of the opposite sex. We are asking the court to allow us to operate consistent with our beliefs and protect our campers from a gender ideology agenda," he added.AFGHAN CHRISTIAN PASTOR PLEADS WITH TRUMP, WARNS OF TALIBAN REVENGE AFTER ADMIN REVOKES REFUGEE PROTECTIONSAlliance Defending Freedom Legal Counsel Andrea Dill, who is representing the camp, said in a statement, "The government has no place telling religious summer camps that it's 'lights out' for upholding their religious beliefs about human sexuality.""Camp IdRaHaJe exists to present the truth of the Gospel to children who are building character and lifelong memories. But the Colorado government is putting its dangerous agendathat is losing popularity across the globeahead of its kids. We are urging the court to allow IdRaHaJe to operate as it has for over 75 years: as a Christian summer camp that accepts all campers without fear of being punished for its beliefs," she added.Lisa Roy, Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Early Childhood, provided a statement to CBS, saying, "The Department will continue working in partnership with faith-based providers and camps within the confines of the law to ensure maximum participation.
