Trump stops Biden's Euro-style solution to flight delays and paves way to lower fares
The Biden administration spent four years placing a record level of new regulatory impediments on the nations airlines. An analysis by the Office of Management and Budget estimates that Bidens Transportation Secretary, Pete Buttigieg, nearly tripled the number of transportation-related rules and regulations. There's no evidence that all this added red tape made airline travel safer or reduced flight delays.Biden should have learned from the airline deregulations of the late 1970s, which liberated airlines from government controls on pricing and flight routes. A famous study by Robert Crandall of the Brookings Institution found that those reforms ushered in the modern era of air travel with much lower prices and hundreds of billions of dollars of savings for consumers over the past four decades.BIDEN ADMIN PUT SOME AMERICANS WHO RESISTED MASK MANDATES OR WERE INVOLVED IN JAN 6 ON SEVERE NO-FLY LIST: TSAButtigieg, by contrast, blundered on nearly every major issue he faced. He bungled the proposed JetBlue merger with Spirit Airlines, a disastrous decision which landed Spirit Airlines in bankruptcy and left JetBluestruggling. This has led to less competition, not more.Buttigieg also tried to restrict popular award miles programs that save money on airfares and reward passengers with flight upgrades. Hes imposed new penalties on airlines for flight delays even when it wasnt the fault of the airline. The Biden-Buttigieg philosophy was that airlines were ripping off passengers and gobbling up profits. The truth is the opposite: airline fares have remained reasonably low compared to the rapid inflation in food, energy and housing costs. The averageinflation-adjusted airfare is down nearly 20% from pre-pandemic 2019 when airfareswere already the lowest on record. In fact, airfares are one of the only major categories of consumerspending that has fallen on an inflation-adjusted basis. Thats not the sign of an industry price-gouging consumers. Here's a financial reality about this industry that few of the politicians and regulators seem to understand: Airlines have huge fixed costs and operate on small margins which, even in the best years for airlines, lag the average profit margin in other industries. If United, Americanand Delta relied solely on ticket revenues, theairlines would either go bankrupt, restrict flights, or have to start charging much higher fares.Thankfully, the Trump administration under Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is charting a different course. The Department ofTransportation has announced it will not implement the Biden-era proposal requiringairlines to pay European-style compensation for delays and cancellations and is canceling attempts to restrict airline credit card reward points.CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONOne unresolved issue is what to do about flight delays and cancellations. As a frequent flyer myself, I hate flight delays which are more common than ever. What should be done? Reasonable compensation to passengers except in cases where the flight delays are beyond the airline's control should be standard policy. Some airlines offer better compensation than others.Rather than impose government mandates, let the market work. Airlines should announce what their delay policy is. All,but one, of the U.S.airlines already provide complimentary hotel accommodations when flights are delayed overnight. Modest FAA fines or payments to customers should be required for long flight delays or cancellations when the airline itself is to blame. The 1970s deregulation of the skies was a success that virtually all economists and passenger groups applaud. Trump's transportation agenda under Secretary Sean Duffy is: Airline Deregulation, The Sequel. The results will be better service and lower costs for tens of millions of American passengers and a more profitable and stable future for our vital airline industry.

CBS staffers abuzz as Bari Weiss reportedly set to join network's top brass, 'Nobody knows' what to expect
CBS News staffers have been chattering following a flurry of reports that Bari Weiss will be taking a top position at the network."Everyone is sending the articles around. Waiting to see how it will change or if it will," one CBS staffer told Fox News Digital.Outlets like Puck News and the New York Post reported last Thursday that Paramount is set to announce that it has acquired Weiss' publication The Free Press for $150 million and that Paramount's new owner David Ellison will appoint Weiss to become the editor in chief of CBS News, where she will report directly to him appearing to bypass CBS News President Tom Cibrowski, who currently reports to Paramount TV Media Chair George Cheeks."Everyone is waiting to see how things will fall. Nobody knows," the staffer reacted.LIBERALS FUME OVER PROSPECTS OF BARI WEISS JOINING CBS NEWS, PARAMOUNT BUYING HER OUTLETEllison had been courting Weiss for several months, even before he took over as Paramount CEO in August following the company's merger with Skydance Media. Weiss famously quit The New York Times in 2020 writing a scathing resignation letter in which she detailed bullying by colleagues in what she called an "illiberal environment."Weiss went on to launch the "Common Sense" newsletter in 2021 before rebranding it as The Free Press and expanding it into a full-fledged media company in 2022. Earlier this year, The Free Press touted having more than 155,000 paying subscribers, and Puck reported it was recently valued at $100 million."I think fresh ideas cant hurt," the CBS staffer said about Weiss joining the network. "Im sure she has some, so lets see."NEW PARAMOUNT CEO DAVID ELLISON ISSUES ULTIMATUM TO WORKERS: RETURN TO OFFICE FULL-TIME OR LEAVEWeiss, who built her brand around the notion that legacy outlets suffer from liberal groupthink, is sure to shake things up. Liberals have been incensed at the idea of Weiss being elevated to such a powerful position at CBS News. She has largely been ostracized by the cultural left for The Free Press' reporting that challenges DEI, gender ideology and media narratives against Israel in its ongoing war with Hamas. The CBS News staffer isn't very concerned about whether Weiss' appointment will negatively impact the perception of CBS News, at least to the average viewer. [With] people in the industry, maybe, but people at home most likely dont have any idea who she is or what she does," the staffer said. "At the end of the day, people watching at home pay our bills, not the people writing about it in the trades, so who actually knows how theyll react."Representatives for Paramount and CBS News declined to comment.FCC APPROVES PARAMOUNT-SKYDANCE MERGER FOLLOWING TRUMP SETTLEMENT, COLBERT CANCELLATIONEllison is hoping to revitalize CBS News, which has been perpetually stuck in third place behind its rival morning and evening newscasts from ABC and NBC.Weiss' unprecedented ascension at CBS wouldn't be the first time the Tiffany Network faced ire from the far-left. In July, liberal critics accused CBS and Paramount of bending the knee when it reached a multimillion-dollar settlement with President Donald Trump over its handling of the "60 Minutes" Kamala Harris interview. CBS reignited scorn when it announced days later that it was canceling "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert." Critics accused CBS of appeasing Trump while the network insisted it was purely a financial decision.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Leaked Meta documents show how AI chatbots handle child exploitation
An internal Meta document sheds light on how the company is training its AI chatbot to handle one of the most sensitive issues online: child sexual exploitation. The newly unearthed guidelines detail what's permitted and what's strictly forbidden, offering a rare look into how Meta is shaping its AI behavior amid government scrutiny.Sign up for my FREE CyberGuy ReportGet my best tech tips, urgent security alerts, and exclusive deals delivered straight to your inbox. They arrive just as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is investigating AI chatbot makers, including Meta, OpenAI, and Google, to understand how these companies design their systems and protect children from potential harm.Earlier this year,we reportedthat Meta's previous rules mistakenly allowed chatbots to engage in romantic conversations with children. Meta later removed that language, calling it an error. The updated guidelines mark a clear shift, now requiring chatbots to refuse any request for sexual roleplay involving minors.CHATGPT MAY ALERT POLICE ON SUICIDAL TEENSThe documents reportedly outline a strict separation between educational discussion and harmful roleplay. For example, chatbots may:But chatbots must not:Meta's communications chief Andy Stone told Business Insider that these rules reflect the company's policy to prohibit sexualized or romantic roleplay involving minors, while adding that additional guardrails are also in place. We reached out to Meta for a comment to include in our article, but did not hear back before our deadline.META AI DOCS EXPOSED, ALLOWING CHATBOTS TO FLIRT WITH KIDSThe timing of these disclosures is key. In August, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., demanded that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg hand over a 200-page rule book on chatbot behavior, along with internal enforcement manuals. Meta missed the first deadline but recently began providing documents, citing a technical issue. This comes as regulators worldwide debate how to ensure the safety of AI systems, particularly as they become integrated into everyday communication tools. At the same time, the recent Meta Connect 2025 event showcased the company's newest AI products, including Ray-Ban smart glasses with built-in displays and enhanced chatbot features. These announcements underscore how deeply Meta is integrating AI into daily life, making the recently revealed safety standards even more significant.META ADDS TEEN SAFETY FEATURES TO INSTAGRAM, FACEBOOKWhile Meta's new rules may set stricter limits, parents still play a key role in keeping kids safe online. Here are steps you can take right now:If you use AI chatbots, this story is a reminder that big tech companies are still figuring out how to set boundaries. While Meta's updated rules may prevent the most harmful misuse, the documents show how easily gaps can appear and how much pressure it takes from regulators and journalists to close them.Meta's AI guidelines show both progress and vulnerability. On the one hand, the company has tightened restrictions to protect children. On the other hand, the fact that earlier errors allowed questionable content at all reveals how fragile these safeguards can be. Transparency from companies and oversight from regulators will likely continue shaping how AI evolves.Do you think companies like Meta are doing enough to keep AI safe for children, or should governments set stricter rules? How and where law enforcement tracked Tyler Robinson's alleged path across UVU campus
EXCLUSIVE DETAILS: OREM, Utah Tyler Robinson's suspected path shows him entering and exiting campus at different points before he "made contact" with a police officer standing guard after the assassination of Charlie Kirk on Sept. 10, in an encounter that places him at Utah Valley University without relying on cellphone records, according to court documents, scene video and interviews with law enforcement sources.Robinson arrived on campus wearing black around 11:51 a.m., entering through a tunnel under Campus Drive after parking his gray Dodge Challenger nearby and walking by the Utah Valley Institute of Religion on his way toward the Losee Center at the heart of campus.Investigators retraced his movements with the help of the campus security camera network, a law enforcement source said.He is believed to have scouted the area hours before the shooting before returning in a new set of clothes and armed with a .30-06 Mauser rifle the suspected murder weapon.CHARLIE KIRK'S ACCUSED ASSASSIN ENCOUNTERED BY POLICE DURING RETURN TO CRIME SCENE: LAW ENFORCEMENT SOURCESRobinson allegedly used the rooftop above the Losee Center as a sniper's perch and fired a single shot, which struck Kirk in the neck around 12:20 p.m. Prosecutors have said campus police found marks left behind on the gravel rooftop moments after the shooting "consistent with a sniper having lain [there] impressions in the gravel potentially left by the elbows, knees and feet of a person in a prone shooting position."They also found impressions at the alleged sniper's perch and muddy Converse footprints along his expected escape route, a source told Fox News Digital. Surveillance images previously released by the FBI appear to show the suspect wearing similar sneakers. As the crowd below panicked, Robinson allegedly ran north across the rooftop, dropped to the ground and sprinted across Campus Drive, where he narrowly avoided being struck by a passing van, the source said.Police later found the alleged murder weapon wrapped in a towel and hidden in a small patch of woods just a few feet from where he is believed to have crossed the street.EX-FBI AGENT TURNED UVU PROFESSOR BREAKS DOWN THE EVIDENCE TRAIL TYLER ROBINSON LEFT FOR DETECTIVESProsecutors released excerpts from a text message conversation they say Robinson had with his roommate and romantic partner, Lance Twiggs, that occurred at an unspecified time on the evening of Sept. 10, in which Robinson allegedly discussed wanting to retrieve a rifle before returning home from Orem, which is about a four-hour drive from where he lived in Washington County.Twiggs is cooperating with investigators and has not been charged with a crime. While law enforcement searched the area, Robinson texted Twiggs, telling him to "look under my keyboard," according to court documents. The roommate found and photographed a note there that read, "I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I'm going to take it." Twiggs later shared the image with detectives.EX-FBI AGENT TURNED UVU PROFESSOR BREAKS DOWN THE EVIDENCE TRAIL TYLER ROBINSON LEFT FOR DETECTIVESIn another message, Robinson allegedly wrote he was "stuck in Orem for a little while longer yet. Shouldn't be long until I can come home, but I gotta grab my rifle still. To be honest I had hoped to keep this secret till I died of old age. I am sorry to involve you.""You weren't the one who did it right????" the roommate texted back."I am, I'm sorry," Robinson allegedly replied.WHO IS TYLER ROBINSON? WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT CHARLIE KIRK'S SUSPECTED ASSASSIN"I thought they caught the person?" Twiggs wrote, according to court documents."No, they grabbed some crazy old dude, then interrogated someone in similar clothing," came another alleged reply from Robinson. "I had planned to grab my rifle from my drop point shortly after, but most of that side of town got locked down. Its (sic) quiet, almost enough to get out, but theres (sic) one vehicle lingering."Later in the conversation, he allegedly reiterated that he was looking for a chance to grab the rifle: "There is a squad car parked right by it. I think they already swept that spot, but I don't wanna chance it."TIMELINE OF CHARLIE KIRK'S ALLEGED ASSASSIN FROM CAMPUS SHOOTING TO SHERIFF'S OFFICE SURRENDEREventually, he allegedly wrote that, "I'm wishing I had circled back and grabbed it as soon as I got to my vehicle... I'm worried what my old man would do if I didn't bring back grandpas (sic) rifle."Hours after the shooting, an officer standing watch over the perimeter "made contact" with Robinson nearby. He allegedly told the officer he needed to get something from near the garage, according to the source. That wasn't deemed suspicious at the time because hundreds of people had fled in a panic after the shooting, and many of them left belongings behind. But the officer did a routine check on Robinson's plate, which investigators saw in the system later, once they had identified him as a potential suspect, placing him in the area, the source said.Prosecutors sent the gun to a crime lab for testing, and allegedly found DNA consistent with Robinson's on the gun, on the towel it was wrapped in, and on three of the four rounds inside.Robinson faces charges including aggravated murder, which carries the potential death penalty if convicted, felony discharge of a firearm, witness tampering and obstruction.Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was speaking at an event as part of a national speaking tour and sponsored by the campus chapter of the organization, which promotes conservative principles among students across the country. He was a married father of two.

Tourism safety fears rise after museum thief steals pharaoh's priceless bracelet: 4 things to know
The international spotlight recently turned to crime in Egypt when a pharaoh's priceless bracelet was stolen from a Cairo museum and melted down forever lost to history. The artifact once belonged to Pharaoh Usermaatre Amenemope, a ruler from the Third Intermediate Period.Dating back 3,000 years, the bracelet was stolen by a specialist at the Egyptian Museum's restoration laboratory and sold for around $4,000 this month.ARCHAEOLOGISTS DISCOVER UNTOUCHED TOMB LINKED TO KING MIDAS' DYNASTY: 'HIGH LEVEL OF WEALTH'Authorities tracked down all parties involved including the jewelers and foundry workers who touched the bracelet and arrested them, but not in time to save the precious object.Though this was not directly a tourist-targeted incident, the incident has raised concerns about crime in Egypt and might make some rethink upcoming trips to the Gift of the Nile.Fox News Digital spoke to experts about how to stay safe in Egypt here's what they said.To American eyes, the sale of Amenemope's bracelet for around $4,000 seems a shockingly low sum but in Egypt, that amount is worth a fortune.A 2023 report from CAPMAS, Egypt's official national statistics agency, said the average monthly salary for public and private sector employees was around 5,005 Egyptian pounds per month less than $160 U.S. dollars.Threat management expert Spencer Coursen told Fox News Digital that poverty in Egypt creates "an environment in which opportunistic crime thrives."TOURISTS FACE DANGEROUS 'CRUSH-AND-GRAB' PICKPOCKET SCHEMES IN MAJOR CITYHe said, "For many locals, hustling tourists is seen less as crime and more as survival. This is why visitors often experience aggressive street vendors, taxi scams or 'guides' demanding tips after offering unsolicited help."A former U.S. Army Ranger and founder of Coursen Security Group, Coursen said tourists need to be on high alert against pickpocketing, scams, overcharging and harassment particularly street harassment against women."Pickpocketing in crowded markets, taxi overcharging and aggressive sales tactics are much more common than armed robbery or assault," the Texas-based expert said. "Egypt also has unique risks tied to regional instability and terrorism, particularly in the Sinai Peninsula and occasionally in major cities."He went on, "Most of the time, these risks are generally targeted at security forces or political symbols rather than tourists. Still, they shape the overall security environment in ways that make Egypt distinct."ARCHAEOLOGISTS UNCOVER MULTISTORY BUILDINGS IN ONCE-THRIVING CITY LOST TO TIMEEgyptian police are plentiful, the security expert noted, but they're primarily focused on deterring larger threats like terrorism making their effectiveness "mixed" when it comes to petty crime against tourists."The country's security forces operate in a system in which corruption, bureaucracy and low pay limit accountability," said Coursen. "Small bribes are frequently used to expedite processes or avoid hassle and are not uncommon.""This doesnt mean visitors are unsafe, but it does mean enforcement isnt always as consistent or impartial as what Western travelers might expect."Rather than rely on police, tourists should sharpen their street smarts and avoid dicey situations."Westerners in Egypt are less likely to face violent threats and more likely to face persistent distractions," he said.ANCIENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH REVEALS MYSTERIOUS 1,600-YEAR-OLD WARNING TO NONBELIEVERS: 'ONLY THE RIGHTEOUS'"The safest traveler is one who looks confident, maintains boundaries and knows when to say no."Coursen added that tourists should carry color copies of their passports, small denominations of change rather than credit cards, and medication for food-related illnesses, as water quality is less reliable compared to that of the U.S."Egypt rewards those who arrive informed, alert and adaptable," he said. "Avoid obvious risks, prepare for the predictable challenges, and youll be free to enjoy one of the most extraordinary destinations on earth."The security expert boiled down his advice to four key points.1. Stick to populated, well-lit areas, especially after dark. Avoid empty alleys and isolated spaces, where tourists become easy targets.2. As a Westerner, you will already stand out, so don't add unnecessary attention with flashy jewelry, designer handbags or revealing clothing.ANCIENT EGYPTIAN PARTY-TOWN BUILDING AND RELICS PULLED OUT IN OCEAN DISCOVERY3. Lead with "No, thank you."Many scams begin when a tourist agrees to accept a presumed kindness over something trivial, which then escalates into a demand for money.4. Being mindful of local customs, plus how you dress, how you negotiate and how you interact will not only help you to avoid conflict; it will also earn you local respect.Bobby Laurie, a Washington, D.C.-based travel expert, told Fox News Digital he "never felt unsafe while touring Egypt."The former flight attendant said he felt secure in his travels to many different regions and cities in Egypt but he did caution that Cairo is especially busy and congested. He compared the overpopulation and condensed cities to what he's seen in Central America."One of the things I was not prepared for and to me, this could be something that makes tourists uneasy and possibly feel unsafe is the culture around the merchants selling items outside of temples and other attractions," he said. "The merchants were everywhere, around you, in your face. Some pushed and pulled, hoping to get you in their store."For more Lifestyle articles, visit foxnews.com/lifestyle"There were many, many merchants outside each and every tourist attraction, and they are very aggressive," he added. He compared it to being a celebrity hounded by paparazzi."You quickly learn that this is just the way it is, but at first, it's alarming," said Laurie. "The intensity varied at each stop, and this is one of those situations where you'd want to watch your belongings just because your attention is constantly being diverted."He also said tourist groups tend to have armed security around them bringing some assurance to those who have booked tour guides."From the looks of it, it would appear unsafe because why would this officer be with you?" Laurie observed. For more Lifestyle articles, visit foxnews.com/lifestyle"However, most of them are there to assist tourists with navigating the city, assist with crossing roads . The lines on roadways are just for show! In Egypt, they mean nothing."Katy Nastro, a spokesperson for the Colorado-based travel company Going, confirmed to Fox News Digital that main issues in Egypt include haggling, aggression from vendors and unwanted attention toward women. The travel expert urged tourists to keep their eyes out for law enforcement, including those that have "Tourism and Antiquities Police" badges at tourist sites."They are based at all major tourism sites, and can be reached by dialing 126," advised Nastro.

Former Biden official calls Virginia AG candidate Jay Jones' violent texts part of a 'private conversation'
Former Biden aide Neera Tanden condemned Virginia state attorney general candidate Jay Jones violent texts but added that they were part of a "private conversation" on Sundays "Meet the Press."Tanden was part of a panel that discussed the ongoing federal government shutdown when one panelist, former Trump political advisor Marc Short, shifted the topic to Jones text messages attacking a political opponent."Can we stop with the pearl clutching about the mean tweets and sombrero tweets?" Short said. "This week, it came to light that a Democratic candidate for attorney general in the state of Virginia called for the assassination of a political opponent, called for the assassination of that political opponents family, and theres not one national Democrat calling for him to step aside. Not one. Its disgraceful."YOUNGKIN SAYS DEMOCRAT AG CANDIDATE JAY JONES MUST 'STEP AWAY IN DISGRACE OVER TEXTS ABOUT FORMER GOP LEADERNBC host Kristen Welker allowed Tanden to respond to Short and address Jones controversial texts."I absolutely think that people should criticize that, 100%," Tanden said. "I think it was a private conversation he had, but still awful and disgusting. It should be condemned."She continued, "But then, we should condemn that, but then you should condemn when the president called the Democratic Party, the party of Satan."This led to a back and forth between Tanden and Short as Tanden repeatedly pressed Short to condemn President Donald Trump and other Republicans as well."I think I have," Short said. "I think I clearly have. But the fact that not one Democrat has said that when he has called for a political assassination at this moment of political violence is crazy."VIRGINIA DEMS BACK AG CANDIDATE JAY JONES, DESPITE SINISTER TEXT MESSAGESJones came under fire over the last few days after an August 2022 text conversation between Jones and Virginia state Del. Carrie Coyner, R-Chester, resurfaced on Friday. In the text messages, Jones repeatedly wished for the violent death of then-GOP state House leader Todd Gilbert."Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, Hitler and Pol Pot. Gilbert gets two bullets to the head," Jones wrote. In another, Jones questioned whether Gilbert and his wife were "breeding little fascists." A source familiar with the situation told Fox News Digital that, around that point, Jones and Coyner had a telephone conversation where he reportedly wished for the deaths of Gilberts children."Only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy," Jones said.CONSUMED WITH HATE: WINSOME SEARS, JASON MIYARES UNLOAD ON DEMOCRAT JAY JONES OVER VIOLENT TEXTSWhen reached by Fox News Digital, Jones also did not deny the messages were his."Like all people, I've sent text messages that I regret, and I believe that violent rhetoric has no place in our politics," Jones said.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPIn a comment to Fox News Digital, a press secretary for current Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares responded to Tanden's reaction."It is shameful that national Democrats are excusing Jay Jones actions with partisan arguments and sorry dismissals.
