Bill Maher criticizes 'The View' hosts for delayed response to Jimmy Kimmel suspension
On Friday's episode of "Real Time," host Bill Maher slammed the co-hosts of "The View" for "silencing" themselves by waiting several days to comment on Jimmy Kimmels show being suspended.Speaking about Democrats more broadly, he said, "It wasn't a good look for the woman party that all the guys were speaking out for Jimmy Kimmel when Trump went after him except on the woman show, where for five days the outspoken hosts were suddenly as quiet as a geisha." "Then on the fifth day they rose and said, No one silences us."The show had been, initially, conspicuously quiet on the decision by ABC to pull Kimmel off the air following the comedian's controversial remarks about the alleged killer of Charlie Kirk, leading critics to suggest they were being pressured to remain silent by their own network.JIMMY KIMMEL REVEALS HE NEVER THOUGHT HIS SHOW WOULD BE BACK ON AIRMaher referenced "The View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg on Sept. 22 declaring that "no one silences us." He argued that "no one had to" because "you silenced yourselves.""Whoopi Goldberg continued, 'Did you all really think we weren't going to talk about Jimmy Kimmel?' Uh, no. I thought you would, but then you didn't," Maher joked. "Five days. Talk about needing extra time to get ready."Representatives of "The View" declined Fox News Digital's request for a comment. This wasnt the first time Maher called out the "outspoken hosts" of "The View" for their unusual silence on the controversy, given that the show typically opens with its "Hot Topics" segment featuring commentary on major headlines.'THE VIEW' SLAMS TRUMP ADMINISTRATION, AVOIDS CRITICIZING ABC OVER KIMMEL SUSPENSION"Im friendly with the ladies on 'The View,' but they didnt say anything about this, this week. Nothing," Maher noted the day after Kimmel's suspension."You know, because its never been their thing to weigh in on the issues. Its just an upbeat party show. Thats why they hired people named Joy [Behar] and Sunny [Hostin] and Whoopi [Goldberg]," he quipped."Jimmy Kimmel Live!" was temporarily suspended by ABC and the Walt Disney Company on Wednesday, Sept. 17. (That day's "The View" had already aired.) The "View" co-hosts neglected to mention Kimmel's suspension on Thursday's episode, and Friday's show was taped prior to the news about Kimmel's suspension breaking.HOWARD STERN BLASTS ABC OVER KIMMEL SUSPENSION, SAYS HE CANCELED DISNEY+ SUBSCRIPTIONOn Monday, Sept. 22, five days after the late-night host's suspension, co-host Whoopi Goldberg claimed the show "took a breath" to see if Kimmel would publicly address his show's suspension."Now, look, did yall really think we werent going to talk about Jimmy Kimmel?" Goldberg said. "I mean, have you watched the show over the last 29 seasons? So you know no one silences us, and to all my friends who reached out, you have to know, its OK, were still here. Were still broadcasting. And when the news broke last week about Jimmy Kimmels suspension, we took a breath to see if Jimmy was going to say anything about it first. We did the same thing with Stephen Colbert. Then our show was on tape on Friday, but we are live here today, and were getting into it now."CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPFox News' Hanna Panreck contributed to this report.

Whatever happened to olive loaf, the nostalgic 1970s deli meat that America abandoned?
Once a familiar sight in American lunchboxes, olive loaf a processed deli meat studded with green olives and red pimentos has nearly disappeared from shelves. Its cameo in the 1985 film "The Breakfast Club" cemented its place in pop culture, only to be discarded like it was in the movie when Ally Sheedy's character Allison Reynolds opted for a Pixy Stix and Cap'n Crunchstuffed sandwich instead.Olive loaf's real heyday was from the 1940s to the 1970s, according to Marla Royne Stafford, professor and chair of marketing and international business at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.PASTRAMI QUEEN UNITES DELI LOVERS WITH 'MEAT UPS' ACROSS AMERICA"Olive loaf was visually more interesting than bologna, with its bright green and red pimento-stuffed olives embedded in the meat," Stafford told Fox News Digital. "This made it seem special and a little more sophisticated than plain bologna."The need for practical and cheap food was especially pronounced in postwar America.Sandwiches were one of the most common lunches in post-World War II America, according to Stephen Dombroski, director of consumer products, food and beverage at QAD Inc., a global software firm that works with food companies."Olive loaf and its sister products pimento loaf, pickle loaf, bologna were marketed to middle- and working-class families as quick, affordable lunchbox options," Dombroski told Fox News Digital.7-ELEVEN PUTS 'FOCUS ON FOOD' IN US REVAMP WITH JAPANESE-INSPIRED MEALS AND UPGRADESOriginally sliced to order at delicatessens, olive loaf became even more accessible when big brands like Oscar Mayer sold it prepackaged in supermarkets. Some blends combined chicken and pork, while others used beef and pork.Even after the war, Americans embraced processed and mass-produced foods, Stafford said. But starting in the 1970s and building through the 1990s, concerns about sodium, preservatives and processed meats grew. Soon, olive loaf was perceived as unhealthy.Today, most major health agencies warn that regularly eating processed meats increases the risk of cancer, heart disease, Type 2 diabetes and other serious health problems. The low-fat craze of the '80s and '90s left sales of similar deli meats like bologna dropping year after year, according to the blog Food Republic."This is when consumers began embracing fresh, natural and authentic foods such as fresh deli turkey, roast beef and fresh produce," Stafford said.WEIGHT LOSS TOUGHER WITH ULTRA-PROCESSED FOODS LURKING IN NEARLY EVERY MEAL, SAY EXPERTSConsumers demanded farm-fresh, global and customizable options by the 2000s, she said, and younger generations saw olive loaf as "weird."Dombroski noted that by the 1980s, microwaves were fixtures in home and office kitchens."Why have a high-sodium olive loaf sandwich when you could heat up a hot soup or a quick meal in three minutes?" he said. For Lanie Smith, also known as "The Vintage Cook," olives themselves were another part of the problem."Recipes from the 1940s to the 1970s were loaded with olives," Smith told Fox News Digital. "But there was always one person at the family table picking them out of the dish."GEN Z IS DITCHING BOXED CEREALS AT BREAKFAST: 'COULDN'T PAY ME TO EAT THEM'The olive loaf had two strikes against it, Smith said."Not only was it a processed meat, it contained an ingredient that many already found unappealing," she said.Unlike Spam and Kool-Aid, which became embedded in American culture, olive loaf didn't quite make the cut, Stafford said. Spam had deeper ties to World War II, Hawaii and Asian cuisines, she noted, while Kool-Aid is linked to childhood, summer and counterculture. The one thing still working in the olive loaf's favor is nostalgia, experts and fans agree.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTERA recent Reddit thread featuring a photo of the thinly sliced pink meat bursting with olives triggered nostalgia for many, with some saying they missed it."This stuff is sliced childhood nostalgia right there," one person commented."My dad put mustard my sister ketchup I used mayo my mother would not eat it," another recalled.Others had less fond memories. "That scared me as a kid, I would never eat it," one Reddit user said.MORE FROM FOX NEWS LIFESTYLEThere are pockets of the population in which olive loaf is still enjoyed, Dombroski noted. They are often older and of European descent in metro areas, he said, but the demographic is dwindling.A comeback, he said, is unlikely. "Any revival would need to be as a nostalgic, re-branded product lower sodium, fewer preservatives, maybe even turkey- or plant-based."Stafford agreed that elevated "nostalgia marketing" could give olive loaf a boost, but its expiration date has likely passed."Despite using strategic and clever marketing tools, the potential return of olive loaf has key challenges, such as its visual and textural oddness, which many people find off-putting," she said.Smith has some ideas, however."Surround it with something louder," she suggested. "Put olive loaf cubes on a vintage-style charcuterie board with pickled onions, hot mustard and crackers. I love the olives. Bring 'em on."

I Dream of Jeannie star Barbara Eden shares real reason why first season was filmed in black and white
Barbara Eden had a big secret while filming the first season of "I Dream of Jeannie."Sixty years later, the actress is uncorking the truth of why the 1960s sitcom was first shot in black and white before switching to color."I was going to have a baby," Eden recently told People magazine. "And so they started fast. I think they thought I was going to die or something. They didn't want to invest the money in color."I DREAM OF JEANNIE STAR BARBARA EDEN NEVER SAW HERSELF AS A SEX SYMBOL DESPITE ICONIC COSTUMEIt had long been assumed that showrunners worried about how the shows special effects would look in color, prompting them to play it safe, People reported. However, they were actually more concerned about hiding Edens growing baby bump."The same day thatI Dream of Jeannie sold, the doctor told me I was pregnant," Eden previously told the outlet. "I was thrilled. I was so happy, but I knew they'd have to replace me. Well, God love [I Dream of Jeanniecreator] Sidney Sheldon. He got to work, and we did the first 13 shows with me pregnant."Eden gave birth to her son, Matthew Ansara, on Aug. 29, 1965. Eden starred in the show from 1965 to 1970.Ansara died in 2001 from an accidental heroin overdose. He was 35.In 2021, Eden opened up to People magazine about losing her son. She and her first husband, Michael Ansara, had tried for nearly seven years to conceive before their son was born."When Matthew was clean and sober, he was such a beautiful human being, inside and out," said Eden at the time. "Drugs are inexplicable. It's so frustrating."CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTERAnsara struggled with addiction for 14 years, cycling in and out of rehab."At first, we didn't recognize the behavior the sleeping and the bouts of anger that would come up all of a sudden with this charming, darling boy," Eden admitted. "I was scared to death. I didn't know what to do. He was too young to know he needed rehab or help. It's a wonder that he lived to be 35."Eden said she grappled with guilt after Ansaras death."I don't think there's anything worse than to lose your child," she told the outlet. "As a parent, I had a lot of guilt and anger, and following his death, I was always on the edge of tears. Even though he was 35, he was still my baby.""I began to speak with parents who were going through the same thing," she continued. "I think parents should know that it's not a bad thing to be strict with your child. If you know what's going on, you have a chance to help. Ultimately, it's up to them, but there's hope."Eden said you can never truly "cope" with losing a child. Instead, she chose to live day by day and count her blessings.LIKE WHAT YOURE READING? Most recently, on the 60th anniversary of "I Dream of Jeannie," Eden told Fox News Digital she never felt Jeannies powerful presence overshadowed her Hollywood career."I was always content and happy with her," she explained. "Even when I was doing Jeannie, I was lucky enough to still be doing other things. I opened the MGM Grand inLas Vegas. I went back to singing again."WATCH: ELVIS PRESLEY'S 1968 BORDELLO SCENE WAS CUT FOR BEING TOO RACY: DOC"When we had breaks shooting Jeannie, I would do another film in between and then go back. It was a long ping-pong. And Im so pleased that people still like her. I had no idea that the show would have the impact that its had all over the world.""Back then, I didnt think about being famous," she reflected. "I was just working. I didnt have time to sit back and say, I made it. I just didnt. You cant do that when youre working hard.""And I dont think there was one secret behind the shows success," said Eden. "I think its the combination of a really good idea, a terrific cast . . . it just worked. And that magic doesnt always work. You can have very fine actors, but if the writing isnt right, so many things can go wrong. But we were lucky."The star hasnt thought about what she would like to do next. Shes too busy staying active."I hope to accomplish whatever is thrown at me," she laughed. "I look forward to the next challenge."

Fever star Sophie Cunningham continues condemnation of WNBA commissioner: Cathy, no one cares
Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has been among the most outspoken WNBA players to address the recent controversy surrounding Commissioner Cathy Engelbert. During her latest podcast episode, Cunningham continued to speak out, calling out the league boss for acting out of self-interest.Both on social media and during her exit interview on Wednesday, Cunningham spoke at length about her issues with Engelbert and league officiating."Im just tired of our league. They need to step up and be better. Our leadership from top to bottom needs to be held accountable. I think there are a lot of people in positions of power in theWNBA, who they might be really great business people, but they dont know s--- about basketball. And thats gotta change."CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMIn the latest episode of her podcast,"Show Me Something," Cunningham expanded on her thoughts amid the current collective bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations."At the end of the day, everyones fed up fed up with how the league is treating us."They should be ashamed of themselves for what theyre giving back to us because it's nothing. It is nothing. Theyre not listening. The thing is, theyre not even engaging with us. It is bad."Cunningham, whose first season with the Fever was cut short due to injury, again addressed Engelbert. She said Engelbert lacked the qualities of a "great leader," and said that recent comments from the commissioner were out of self-interest.WNBA COMMISSIONER DENIES ALLEGED STATEMENT SAYING CAITLIN CLARK SHOULD BE 'GRATEFUL' TO LEAGUE FOR SUCCESS"Great leaders want to see other people be more successful than them, they want to make sure that theyre cared for," Cunningham said. "And I get it, shes the business side of it. Like, I get it. But you can be respectful and treat your product the product of why people are paying attention, why people are buying certain jerseys treat your product with respect."Like, be a great leader. Shes not. Shes not in any sense. The disrespect is just crazy to me.""I think this just such a pivotal point in the WNBA because theres so many eyes on us, theres so many new fans theres millions of millions, I should say, of new fans and at the end of the day shes worried about her. In all of her statements its like, Well, I got us here and I , Cathy no one cares. Literally, no one cares."Engelbert addressed the media Friday, and was asked about comments Napheesa Collier alleged she made about star playerCaitlin Clark. Engelbert denied the accusations."Obviously, I did not make those comments. Caitlin has been a transformational player in this league. She's been a great representative of the game. Shes brought in tens of millions of new fans to the game," she said."There's a lot of inaccuracy out there through social media and all this reporting," she later added. "A lot of reporting, a lot of inaccuracy about what I say, what I didn't say."The players association and the WNBA agreed to an eight-year agreement in 2020, but last year the WNBPA voted to opt out of the agreement early. UK warns Palestinian protest group to stand down after synagogue attack: 'Respect the grief of British Jews'
The United Kingdom's government and police urged organizers of a planned anti-Israel protest to cancel the event following this weeks deadly synagogue attack, saying demonstrators should "respect the grief of British Jews.""I know that planned protests over the weekend, just a few days before the anniversary of the October 7 attacks, as well as in the shadow of the Manchester attack, will cause distress," British Prime Minister Keir Starmer wrote in an opinion piece for The Jewish Chronicle. He called on the protest organizers to reconsider and to "respect the grief of British Jews this week.""This is a moment of mourning. It is not a time to stoke tension and cause further pain," Starmer added.UK SYNAGOGUE ATTACK AND HAMAS HOSTAGE CRISIS UNDERSCORE DEADLY YOM KIPPURAnti-Israel protesters in the U.K. went ahead with their demonstration, disregarding pleas from the government and police to cancel the event after this weeks deadly synagogue attack.London Metropolitan Police, often called the Met, not only urged organizers to cancel or delay the protest, but also sent a warning that there would be arrests."By deliberately choosing to encourage mass lawbreaking on this scale, Defend Our Juries are drawing valuable resources away from the communities of London at a time when they are needed most," Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said in a statement.Rowley said that if Defend Our Juries did not heed warnings to delay or cancel the protest, the group should be aware that its activities would be met with police response. As demonstrators gathered in Londons iconic Trafalgar Square on Saturday, they held signs reading, "I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action."U.K. Parliament moved to ban Palestine Action in July, saying the groups "orchestration and enaction of aggressive and intimidatory attacks" passed the thresholds established in the Terrorism Act 2000.However, Defend Our Juries, the organization behind Saturdays protest, is demanding the ban be lifted. Defend Our Juries claims Palestine Action was labeled a terror group "for trying to stop crimes against humanity and for exposing the British governments complicity in genocide."The Met described the scene at Trafalgar Square on Saturday as "busy" and said officers made several arrests in the area. Police noted on X that "quite a few people in the crowd appear to be observing/supporting but not carrying placards themselves."WHO IS THE BRITISH CITIZEN OF SYRIAN DESCENT ACCUSED OF SYNAGOGUE TERROR ATTACK?On Thursday, as Jews marked the holiest day on their calendar, Yom Kippur, an attacker targeted worshippers at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue.
