White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt lambasted media outlets Tuesday for their slow response in covering the fatal stabbing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska.Zarutska, 23, came to the U.S. seeking safety from the war in Ukraine, but was stabbed to death on a train in Charlotte, N.C., on Aug. 22. She was riding home from work at a pizzeria and still wearing her uniform when an assailant stabbed her to death. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Decarlos Brown, was arrested and charged with murder.Footage of the attack has gone viral on social media and fueled national debates about crime and public safety. Susan Collins, R-Maine, is pushing against a pair of ads from a group linked to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., that suggests she has enriched herself with stocks over her nearly three decades in Washington.The Majority Forward PAC, a political action committee that is affiliated with the Schumer-linked Senate Majority PAC, launched a $700,000 ad campaign against Collins, who is eyeing a bid for a sixth term in the Senate, but has yet to officially launch her campaign.The pair of ads, one a 30-second spot titled "Greed," the other a 15-second spot titled "This Life," target Collins for her opposition to a congressional stock trading ban by Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo. Collins is not a member of that committee.However, Trump has since warmed to the idea of a congressional stock trading ban, and lauded the push by Rep. Anna Paulina, R-Fla., as a "MASSIVE WIN" on Truth Social.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers fresh off an Arizona border tour said Tuesday Washington is deporting longtime illegal immigrants "who go to church on Sundays," instead of targeting cartels, pushing a moderate plan just weeks after President Donald Trumps "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" became law.The push comes just weeks after Congress passed H.R. 1, also known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which funneled more than $140 billion into border walls and tougher security, detention beds, and thousands of new ICE and Border Patrol agents. But the Bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus said during a news conference the law did little to fix the asylum backlog or protect longtime illegal immigrants working in the U.S., a point Hill Democrats also flagged in the law."The problem solvers want to work together to do three things: to continue to secure the border, to fix the broken asylum system, and, No. 3, to address some of the concerns we have about our long-term residents that have been here for 10, 20, 30 years, who go to work six days a week, who go to church on Sundays," Rep. A father of three who was scheduled to get married later this month was fatally shot after confronting a man he saw spray-painting graffiti on a bridge in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, police said.Kevin Doherty, 56, took pictures of 26-year-old Snehal Srivastava allegedly defacing the ground and got into an argument with him shortly before 9 a.m. on Aug. 28, according to a report by Fox 25 Boston, citing court records.The dispute escalated into a physical altercation, according to police.Doherty, who was walking home after dropping his 6-year-old son off at school, called 911 during the struggle. Dispatchers reported hearing multiple gunshots and then Doherty telling them he'd been shot before the line went silent, police said.
