WWW.FOXNEWS.COMOakland Democratic councilman faces resistance after he proposes plan to shut down homeless encampmentsIn Oakland, Calif., District 7 Councilman Ken Houston is facing pushback as he works to crack down on the city's homeless crisis.Houston, a Democrat, has earned both praise and criticism as he pushes for a solution. His plan, introduced Thursday evening, would let Oaklands government shut down encampments even if no other shelter options are available, according to The Oaklandside. Until now, outreach workers have been required to offer housing alternatives before a camp can be cleared. The proposal also allows authorities to cite or arrest people for camping where it is prohibited.SANTA MONICA BUSINESS OWNER OFFERING ONE-WAY FLIGHTS TO GET HOMELESS OUT OF CALIFORNIA"The city of Oakland now has clear constitutional authority to prohibit encampments in public spaces," Houstons report stated. "Failure for the city to act can no longer be based on legal uncertainty.""Oakland has a moral duty to intervene compassionately but firmly," Houston said in his own words about the city that reportedly has 5,500 homeless residents as of last year, according to The Oaklandside. He also argued the "rapid growth of the unsheltered population has led to escalating threats to public safety, sanitation and environmental health. These conditions have reached a crisis point, underscoring the urgent need for comprehensive and effective policy solutions."INTERIOR DEPARTMENT ADOPTS NO-TOLERANCE POLICY FOR HOMELESS ENCAMPMENTS IN WASHINGTON, DCThe Housing & Dignity Project, a local advocacy group, is urging the council to reject the proposal. The group argued it "aligns city policy with the Trump agenda by prioritizing the removal and criminalization of people experiencing homelessness." It also warned that allowing the towing of inhabited vehicles without notice "would result only in more people living on sidewalks in deeper instability," according to The Oaklandside.Fox News Digital reached out to Houston and did not receive immediate reply.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMLGBTQ Catholics march through St. Peters Basilica in Jubilee rite as Vatican calendar entry stirs controversyOver 1,000 LGBTQ Catholics and their families walked through the Holy Door of St. Peters Basilica this weekend as part of a Jubilee pilgrimage listed on the Vaticans official Holy Year calendar. The event appeared under the neutral title "Pilgrimage of the Tenda di Gionata Association (Jonathan's Tent) and other associations" for Sept. 6, 2025 on their website. The listing marks the first time an LGBTQ pilgrimage has been included in the Vaticans Jubilee program. Many pilgrims hailed it as a sign of welcome following Pope Francis 12-year papacy, while critics in Catholic media blasted the move as undermining Church tradition.POPE LEO SIGNALS CONTINUATION OF POPE FRANCIS' WELCOMING OF LGBT COMMUNITY IN CATHOLIC CHURCHSome participants wept as they entered the basilica. "It just felt epic, like I was able to touch the hand of God," Justin del Rosario told the Associated Press, who carried a crucifix across the threshold with his male partner.Pilgrims came from the U.S., Italy and Brazil. Groups included DignityUSA, Outreach and a delegation of transgenders from Rome. Many pointed to Pope Francis record, from his 2013 remark, "Who am I to judge?" to his decision allowing priests to bless same-sex couples as paving the way for the pilgrimage. While never changing the Church's teaching on homosexuality, Francis met repeatedly with LGBT advocates.POPE LEO OPTS TO SHARE PAPAL RESIDENCE WITH FOUR ASSOCIATES, BREAKING WITH TRADITIONPope Leo XIV, only months into his papacy, did not mention LGBTQ Catholics during his Jubilee audience but met privately this week with Jesuit Fr. James Martin, who said the Holy Father echoed Francis welcoming message.Vatican officials stressed that adding the pilgrimage to the calendar was logistical, not endorsement. "They are not sponsored activities. Once it is ascertained that there is space, we insert the pilgrimage into the general calendar," Vatican spokeswoman Agnese Palmucci told Reuters.Online reaction showed sharp divides."Yes, the Vaticans first LGBTQ+ pilgrimage approved by Pope Francis a few months before his death is taking place this weekend under Pope Leo." posted Pope Crave (@ClubConcrave) on X.Others condemned it as a betrayal of doctrine. "F--- the Rules inside Saint Peters. The LGBT group La Tenda di Gionata makes their entrance into St. Peters Basilica today... this is the New Church. Behold the legacy of Pope Francis," wrote Catholic commentator Michael J. Matt (@Michael_J_Matt) on X, posting photos from the basilica.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPThe Vatican did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment. The Associated Press contributed to this report.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 19 Views 0 Anteprima
