Trump caps week with bold military moves from Pentagon name change to cartel crackdown
President Donald Trump wrapped up the week Friday signing an executive order to change the name of the Department of Defense to the Department of War.The executive order gives the green light to use the name "Department of War" as a secondary title for the Department of Defense, along with terms like "secretary of war" for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, according to a White House fact sheet. The order also calls for Hegseth to propose both legislative and executive actions to permanently cement the title as the U.S. Department of War.Additionally, a White House official told Fox News Digital that implementing the order would mean making alterations to public-facing websites and office signage at the Pentagon. For example, one change on the horizon is renaming the public affairs briefing room the "Pentagon War Annex," the official said, noting other longer-term projects also will emerge.TRUMP TO RENAME PENTAGON, RESTORING HISTORIC DEPARTMENT OF WAR IN LATEST MILITARY MOVEThe U.S. previously used the Department of War title for its military agency until 1949, but modified it to the Department of Defense to align with multiple reforms included in the National Security Act of 1947.Trump signaled in late August the change might happen."Everybody likes that we had an unbelievable history of victory when it was Department of War," Trump told reporters Aug. 25. "Then we changed it to Department of Defense."Heres what also happened this week:Trump also announced that the U.S. military strike against an alleged drug-laden Venezuelan boat in the southern Caribbean killed 11 suspected Tren de Aragua narco-terrorists Tuesday.Trump shared a video on social media Tuesday depicting the strike against the Venezuelan vessel, just days after he authorized sending three U.S. Navy guided missile destroyers to enhance the administrations counternarcotics efforts in the region."You had massive amounts of drugs," Trump told reporters Wednesday about the recent strike. "We have tapes of them speaking. It was massive amounts of drugs coming into our country to kill a lot of people. And everybody fully understands that fact. You see it, you see the bags of drugs all over the boat and they were hit."MADURO CLAIMS US SEEKS 'REGIME CHANGE THROUGH MILITARY THREAT' AMID CARIBBEAN BUILDUP"Obviously, they won't be doing it again. And I think a lot of other people won't be doing it again. When they watch that tape, they're going to say, 'Let's not do this.' We have to protect our country, and we're going to. Venezuela has been a very bad actor."After the deployment of the destroyers, Maduro said Venezuela was ready to respond to any attacks and said the ships presence in the region was "an extravagant, unjustifiable, immoral and absolutely criminal and bloody threat.""In the face of this maximum military pressure, we have declared maximum preparedness for the defense of Venezuela," Maduro said during a Monday press conference.Meanwhile, the Pentagon confirmed Thursday that two Venezuelan aircraft buzzed a U.S. Navy vessel in international waters."This highly provocative move was designed to interfere with our counter narco-terror operations," the Defense Department wrote in a statement posted to X. "The cartel running Venezuela is strongly advised not to pursue any further effort to obstruct, deter or interfere with counter-narcotics and counter-terror operations carried out by the U.S. military."Trump also unveiled plans Tuesday to move Space Commands headquarters from Colorado to Alabama putting an end to the controversy about where the command would be based.Space Command has been operating out of Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado, but Trump long has backed moving the commands headquarters to Huntsville, Alabama. But in 2023, former President Joe Biden announced that the command would remain based in Colorado.TRUMP PLANS TO MOVE SPACE COMMAND TO ALABAMA, COUNTERING BIDEN ORDER TO KEEP IT IN COLORADO"The U.S. Space Command headquarters will move to the beautiful locale of a place called Huntsville, Alabama, forever to be known from this point forward as Rocket City," Trump told reporters Tuesday.

Miss America hopeful swaps combat boots for evening gown, says military service gives her purpose
This story discusses suicide. If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide, please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline by dialing 988.Alexia Rodrigues is trading in her combat boots for a chance at a crown. On Sunday, the pageant star is competing in the Miss America competition as Miss Rhode Island in Orlando. She previously enlisted in the Rhode Island Army National Guard during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has completed over three years of full-time active duty.MISS AMERICA SAYS SHE'S FOLLOWING THE LORD IN WORLD THAT'S 'BROKEN, POLARIZED AND DIVIDED'The 25-year-old told Fox News Digital shes eager to raise awareness about women in the armed forces. Serving has given her purpose over the years, she said."I absolutely love my job," the Warwick native shared. "I get excited every day to be able to put on my uniform, to serve my country, my community Thats what fuels me every day. What the Army does, which not a lot of companies do, is ensure that our soldiers are trained from day one on EO, which is "equal opportunity" and SHARP, which is the "Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention Program.""We have an extremely supportive team that goes through each step and ensures that every unit is taken care of and is following these policies," she shared. "Im here to show young girls that even if there is no space for you where you want to be, create that space yourself. There is no limit. Be the first and leave that door open for the next woman to come after you."Miss America, a glitzy competition, was born from a 1921 Atlantic City beauty contest just a year after women were given the right to vote, The Associated Press reported. Many participants say the organization a large provider of scholarship assistance to young women has been life-altering, opening doors for them both personally and professionally. The organization, one of the nations most recognized brands, awards more than $5 million in cash scholarships annually, plus millions more at the national, state and local levels."I think there were many things that Miss America offers that I knew aligned with my beliefs and I immediately wanted to be a part of," said Rodrigues. "Ive been competing in this organization since I was 16 years old, so Im coming up at nine years now. It took a lot of tries and a lot of resiliency to make it to this point."WATCH: MISS RHODE ISLAND CHAMPIONS FOSTER CARE REFORM AT MISS AMERICA COMPETITIONOne of the causes Rodrigues aims to highlight is supporting foster youth. It hits close to home.Rodrigues entered foster care after witnessing her biological mother battle addiction and suffering neglect. She wasnt adopted until age seven."My foster parents, who are the only parents Ive ever known I hate calling them that because, to me, theyve always just been mom and dad," she explained. "They started the process when I was fairly young, around three or four years old. It was a long journey. I believe thats where I got my resiliency. From both of them."Rodrigues created the community service initiative, "Foster Hope, Adopt a Dream," which aims to educate the public on "the realities of foster care.""What we [forget to realize] is that there are half a million children in our foster care system, and over 22,000 of them will age out every year, never knowing a loving family or a support system, not having access to higher education," she said."This will lead to one-fourth of them ending up either incarcerated, homeless, or jobless. My goal is to educate people on these statistics. While they might be very sobering, they paint a very real picture of the realities of foster care.""We dont have too many policies that cover foster care and what these children are entitled to," she pointed out.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER"I just met with Senator Reed, going over bills I would love to propose. [They would] make Rhode Island the pilot state for the Foster Youth Bill of Rights and the Foster Hope Act. Both will focus on services for children aging out of the foster care system. Theyll ensure that children in foster care know their rights and they know who to go to if their rights are being violated."Rodrigues said serving in the Rhode Island National Guard gave her the confidence to share her story and the strength to help others in similar circumstances."I was in Syracuse," she recalled. "I was in my second year studying political science. When COVID hit, my life, just like everyone elses, turned upside down. My normal became abnormal. I was sitting at home writing these essays about the change that I wanted to see, the change I wanted to create and be a part of at a time when I felt very disconnected from my community, which is a core part of who I am.""I reached out to a former Miss Rhode Island Miss Rhode Island 2015, Allie Curtis, who was a captain in the Rhode Island National Guard," said Rodrigues. "I asked her, Do you feel like youre making an impact? Why do you continue to serve? She told me her reasons, and she invited me to spend a weekend with them I immediately fell in love with the group of people, their passion for serving and the ability to be part of something bigger than myself."Tragedy has also fueled her sense of purpose. At 13, Rodrigues lost her sister, Tiffany, to an undiagnosed heart disease. Then, in 2024, her brother, Keith, died by suicide."I think grief leaves a type of pain with you that never fully goes away," said Rodrigues. "I created my resiliency tour where I went into communities, into units within the military, into classrooms, and I talked about resiliency, what the word means, what it looks like. I tell my story of loss, grief, going through foster care, being vulnerable, because not every moment on this journey did I think I was going to be OK."LIKE WHAT YOURE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSToday, Rodrigues hopes that her journey will inspire others to make a difference in their communities."There were far more moments than I would like to admit that I thought [what happened to me] was going to break me forever," she admitted."I did struggle with mental health I was fortunate I had a support system that recognized I wasnt OK, even though I would smile and say I was. Its because of them that I was able to not be OK in those moments, that I needed to just cry, break down, to feel like the world was caving in on me. After that, they helped me pick up the pieces and put myself back together.""Because of them, Im here," she said. "Its because of them that Im the woman I am today. Thats why its always been my goal as a leader to bring the message forward, be the support system that I had that far too many young kids dont."

Archaeologists uncover house tied to Isaac Newton beside his legendary apple tree
British archaeologists recently found the remnants of a 17th-century house where Isaac Newtons mother lived not far from the site of his famous apple tree. The National Trust announced in a recent press release that it had found a trove of everyday objects from the site of his mother's former house near Woolsthorpe Manor, an estate-turned-museum near Grantham, Lincolnshire.Isaac Newton was born and raised at Woolsthorpe Manor. In 1665, he left Cambridge University during the Great Plague, and legend holds that he developed his theory of gravity thanks to a tree on the property.SINKHOLE IN HISTORIC CITY REVEALS MEDIEVAL HOSPITAL HIDING JUST BENEATH STREET LEVELThough he and his mother lived on the same property, they didn't live under the same roof. After his father died, Newton's mother, Hannah Ayscough, left him to be raised by his grandparents when she married a vicar. When her second husband died, Ayscough arranged for a house to be built next to Woolsthorpe Manor. She lived there with her children from her second marriage.Archaeologists believe that Ayscough's house was demolished after a fire destroyed it in the early 1800s but its remains have only just been uncovered in new excavations.TOWER OF LONDON DIG REVEALS BLACK DEATH-ERA SKELETONS BELOW POPULAR TOURIST SITE: 'TIP OF THE ICEBERG'"Searching for the exact location of the house, the archaeologists discovered rubble from its demolition and intriguingly, some objects which might have been in the house when the Newton family was there," the National Trust's statement said. The artifacts included thimbles, a needle remnant and buttons in addition to animal bones that showed signs of butchering.Staffordshire-type slipware a style of 17th-century tableware was also found, along with a Bellarmine jug and a "jetton," or token used for gaming.Though the famous apple tree on the property blew down in the early 19th century, another one was regrown at the same location in 1820, where it remains to this day.Allan King, a communications manager for the National Trust, told Fox News Digital that Newton likely visited the property frequently."Isaac Newton didn't actually live in the house, but it was very close to Woolsthorpe Manor where he lived," said King.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER"So, of course, it would be expected that he would have visited frequently and likely shared family meals there."There are no current plans for another dig of the area, though archaeologists haven't ruled out other excavations, the official added. New Jersey homeschool families fight back as state tries to mandate DEI teachings in their homes
A new bill in New Jersey could require homeschooling parents to teach their kids about controversial topics such as diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).The proposal, which is still under review, would force homeschooling parents to submit a curriculum in line with state learning standards. That includes subjects like gender identity, sexual orientation, DEI and climate studies. It would also add more oversight to homeschooling, requiring families to submit a portfolio of student work every year to be evaluated by either a teacher or a licensed psychologist. Some parents say they wont comply even if the bill passes.BATTLE OVER DEI HEATING UP IN NORTH CAROLINA"Our family is not going to teach anything that directly opposes the Word of God," said Michele Latour, a homeschooling parent in New Jersey."And we're pretty firm on that."New Jersey is one of a dozen states with looser homeschooling restrictions. Opponents of the bill argue that it could be considered government overreach or an invasion of family privacy.TRUMP-APPOINTED JUDGE STRIKES DOWN ANTI-DEI MEASURES FROM EDUCATION DEPARTMENTSupporters claim the new rules would help improve transparency about what kids are being taught at home. They also say it could potentially help protect children from being trapped in abusive situations.SUPREME COURT DECIDES WHETHER TO ALLOW PARENTS TO SHIELD CHILDREN FROM LGBTQ BOOKS IN SCHOOL"Homeschooling is very diverse in our state," homeschooling parent Amanda Roberts told Fox News, explaining there are some in the homeschooling community in favor of the bill."There are Democrats who homeschool, there are Republicans who homeschool, there are Independents who homeschool, and not everyone's against that."THE FIGHT OVER CHARTER SCHOOLS IN SOME OF AMERICA'S RURAL STATESThis battle between parental rights and state oversight isnt limited to New Jersey. Across the country, states have taken very different approaches to homeschool parameters.Texas and Missouri, which are both red states, have some of the loosest requirements, while New York, run by Democrats, enforces some of the strictest regulations.Earlier this year, Illinois lawmakers introduced a bill that would have added new reporting requirements for homeschooling families. They wouldve had to notify local districts, submit coursework and materials, and maintain records of medical exams and vaccinations.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPHomeschooling families rallied against the measures outside the capitol in Springfield. Member of trans vegan cult pleads not guilty to killing Border Patrol agent in first hearing on murder charge
A woman accused of shooting and killing a U.S. Border Patrol agent pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges on Friday, marking her first court appearance since prosecutors said they would seek the death penalty for the suspect linked to a transgender vegan cult that has been tied to multiple killings across the country.Teresa Youngblut, 21, pleaded not guilty in federal court in Burlington, Vermont, to the shooting, which took place during a traffic stop in January. The superseding indictment, returned by a federal grand jury last month, charged Youngblut with the murder of Agent David Maland, the assault of two other agents with a deadly weapon and related gun offenses.Attorney General Pamela Bondi has formally authorized the pursuit of capital punishment in the case, and the acting U.S. attorney for the District of Vermont has filed a notice of intent to seek the death penalty, the agency said last month.SUSPECT IN BORDER AGENT KILLING FACES DEATH PENALTY: DOJInvestigators have linked Youngblut to the "Zizians," a self-described vegan, anti-government, transgender-rights collective that authorities say has been tied to six killings across three states, the Associated Press reported.TEXAS BORDER PATROL SHOOTER DETAILS REMAIN SCANT AS VIOLENCE AGAINST ICE, CBP AGENTS SURGESDuring the Jan. 20 traffic stop along Interstate 91 in Coventry, Vermont, prosecutors allege that Youngblut exited the Toyota Prius she was in with her companion, Felix Bauckholt, before shooting at the law enforcement officers without warning killing Maland and endangering two other Border Patrol agents. An agent returned fire, and Bauckholt was killed and Youngblut was wounded.During the Friday appearance, Youngblut's hair was styled in braided pigtails, and she donned an oversized sweatshirt, a mask and baggy pants, according to the AP. Her parents watched her enter the courtroom, where her mother smiled and waved to her as she was later handcuffed and escorted out, the AP reported.Following Youngblut's not guilty plea, Judge Christina Reiss turned to matters of pretrial discovery. The defense wanted to make sure that the accused killer's medical records remain confidential, noting they are extensive. Reiss affirmed that medical and mental health records are considered privileged material, the AP reported.Youngblut, who is currently being held in federal custody, also has new legal representation. 'The Conjuring: Last Rites' Review: Last Rodeo, Last Fumes
Ever ride a roller coaster so many times it loses its thrill? I wouldnt know I hate roller coasters.Still, thats how it felt watching "The Conjuring: Last Rites.""Last Rites" marks the fourth and final "Conjuring" film spanning 12 years and the ninth entry in the so-called "Conjuring" universe (there were five spinoffs, so clearly a fruitful franchise for Warner Bros.). The films follow real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played once again by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, with each film based on one of their cases. "Last Rites" centers on their final case.We revisit the Warrens in 1986, giving a lecture about their work in a near-empty auditorium. The few college students who bothered to attend were more fixated on cracking "Ghostbusters" jokes. At this point in their careers, the Warrens had stepped away from investigations Ed insists it's merely a "hiatus" but hates to admit it's to prevent another heart attack.SPLITSVILLE REVIEW: MAKING COMEDIES GREAT AGAINThe film, however, actually begins with a flashback in 1964 when Ed and a very pregnant Lorraine pursue their first demonic case, finding them in an antique store where they come across a haunted full-length mirror with three creepy babies carved at the top. Feeling an evil presence, Lorraine gently touches the glass, which immediately cracks, and she instantly goes into early labor. They rush to the hospital and Lorraine delivers a stillborn child. Moments later, as Lorraine desperately prays to God with her lifeless baby in her arms, the baby suddenly lets out a cry. Ed and Lorraine welcome their miracle child, Judy.BROTHER OF THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT REAL-LIFE POSSESSION SUBJECT RESENTS HOLLYWOOD'S RETELLINGMeanwhile, in "present day" West Pittston, Pennsylvania, the lives of the Smurl family are turned upside down after Grandma and Grandpa unwittingly give their adolescent granddaughter the same possessed mirror for her confirmation gift, and still with the crack no less! Don't worry though, they say the glass can be replaced. Why they didn't replace the glass themselves before gifting the mirror or hand their granddaughter some cash instead is anyones guess.Like any haunted house flick, the paranormal activity begins subtly; a candle blowing out, a toy doll moving on its own, a mysterious figure lurking in the shadows, but when the light turns on it's just a poster of John Wayne. You know, the usual stuff. Things get worse for the Smurls after the two teen daughters throw away (or at least attempt to throw away) the ugly mirror."Last Rites" has a bloated runtime of 2 hours and 15 minutes, yet the Warrens don't even arrive in West Pittston til nearly an hour-and-a-half into the film. That's because much of it focuses on Judy (Mia Tomlinson), who has the same gift/curse of sussing out ghosts and demons as her mother, but lacks the skills to fend them off. This eventually leads to Judy and her parents teaming up "Avengers: Endgame" style to defeat the demon that has haunted them and the Smurls once and for all in a not-so-climactic battle. We also spend a lot of time with Judy's boyfriend Tony (Ben Hardy) as he desperately seeks the approval of her parents, but don't count on him for much as far as demon hunting goes. He's kinda useless.Farmiga and Wilson remain the heart of "The Conjuring" franchise and carry "Last Rites" across the finish line just barely. Here, Farmiga brings more emotional weight as Lorraine struggles with the constant burden of protecting Judy from the literal demons that haunt them. But the heightened family drama came at a cost.CLICK HERE FOR THE LATEST MEDIA AND CULTURE NEWSGood horror depends on memorable scares. The first "Conjuring" film nailed that with its dread-inducing "hide and clap" scene. By contrast, "Last Rites" delivers half-hearted scares youll struggle to recall once the credits roll. One could chalk it up to poor writing or uninspired direction. Michael Chaves returns to the director's chair (following 2021's "The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It" and the 2023 spinoff "The Nun II"), living in the shadows of his franchise predecessor James Wan, who is only credited as a producer. Wan was a visionary commander behind the camera while Chaves was simply on autopilot."The Conjuring: Last Rites" serves to wrap up Ed and Lorraine Warren's story, but it's not the epic conclusion that it's billed to be. The absence of genuine frights leaves their final chapter also the weakest. For horror fans out there, only the first two installments are worth your time."The Conjuring: Last Rites" is rated R for bloody/violent content and terror. Running time: 2 hours, 15 minutes. In theaters now.
