Former Chicago police official says Democrats are 'afraid' a Trump crime crackdown in the city would work
Former head of the Chicago Police Department Jody Weis called out the two top Democrats in Illinois, arguing they are afraid of being humiliated by President Donald Trump successfully bringing down crime in the city. After Trump caused shockwaves with his crackdown on crime in Washington D.C., Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson warned the president against trying to interfere in Chicago. But Trump declared in no uncertain terms on Tuesday, "We're going in. I didn't say when, we're going in."Weis spoke to National News Desk that same day, chastising Pritzker and Johnson for opposing Trumps federal assistance efforts to combat crime.OBAMA SLAMS TRUMP'S USE OF NATIONAL GUARD TO HELP CITIES FIGHT CRIME AS 'DANGEROUS TREND'After criticizing the citys high level of Black-on-Black crime, Weis lamented that "the governor and the mayor said they dont want any help. So, to me, when you refuse help you are saying you are happy with the numbers and that is absolutely unacceptable in Chicago right now."He also criticized Pritzker specifically for walking near the lake in the early morning as if to show Chicago is safe, proposing, "Let him walk in the Austin neighborhood or the Inglewood neighborhoods at 11 oclock, because thats where many of his constituents live and theyre not going to feel safe.""I think they are afraid that people will see what can be done if politicians commit to taking action and really want to make a difference," Weis said. "Thats really the only reason I can think of because otherwise, it makes no sense."And if you look at what Mayor Muriel Bowser has done in D.C. shes embraced it and its made a huge difference. I wish they would learn from her."CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTUREAfter Trump announced his plans to deploy National Guard troops and assume oversight of the Metropolitan Police Department, Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser initially expressed concern. However, she admitted at a press conference last week that the federal surge has had a noticeable impact on one of America's most dangerous cities, including a whopping 87% reduction in carjackings.Fox News Digital has reached out to Pritzker and Johnson and did not receive an immediate reply.

Cowboys great Troy Aikman questions Jerry Jones' priorities after Micah Parsons trade
Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones decision to trade Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers a week before the 2025 season began certainly raised eyebrows about his role as general manager.Jones notably said in his Netflix docuseries, "Americas Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys," that he continued to be the general manager because he liked the "pain." The trade of Parsons certainly inflicted some anguish on Cowboys fans who have been longing for the franchise to at least get back to the NFC Championship Game.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMTroy Aikman made his thoughts known in an appearance on "The Rich Eisen Show.""I saw Jerry talk about the fact that, having the Cowboys as a discussion point is meaningful to him. And if people arent talking about the Cowboys, then hell do things to stir it up. So, he kind of walked into that and has given the impression that supersedes winning," Aikman said. "In some ways, Im sure Jerry and the Jones family, and everyone is tired of the fact that they havent been to a championship game, let alone a Super Bowl in 30 years."So, then when you deflect that, then essentially the valuation of your franchise or the attention and the exposure, or the drama or as Jerry said the fact that the Cowboys are a soap opera 365 days a year, that then becomes the scoreboard instead of winning and losing on the field. And, do I think that winning is not important to Jerry Jones? Not at all. I think Jerry wants to win more than anything else and I think hes very exhausted of the fact that this team, although theyve won a lot of regular-season games but yet theyve only won four playoff games and thats hard to stomach."MICAH PARSONS' AGENT REVEALS COWBOYS CONTRACT DETAILS AFTER TRADE, RECORD-BREAKING DEAL WITH PACKERSDallas struggles in the postseason since the teams last Super Bowl win have been notable. They have been to the playoffs 13 times, including three out of the last four years. The team has not been able to get past the divisional round of the playoffs.Last season, the team suffered several injuries, including to Parsons, which hampered the effort to get to the postseason tremendously. The team made some additions in the offseason with the acquisition of wide receiver George Pickens and the selection of offensive lineman Tyler Booker in the draft.Dallas opens the season on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Eagles.Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

'Remarkable' ancient sun hat, possibly worn by Roman soldier, unveiled for first time
A one-of-a-kind sun hat, likely worn by a Roman soldier in Egypt, was recently unveiled for the first time and its survival is considered miraculous. The sun hat is currently on display at the Bolton Museum in Greater Manchester, England. It was found at the Illahun archaeological site in the Egyptian city of Faiyum in 1888.The accessory was donated to Boltons first museum, the Chadwick Museum, in 1911, and had been in storage for nearly 115 years until now.ARCHAEOLOGIST SOLVES 'JIGSAW PUZZLE' OF ANCIENT ROMAN FRAGMENTS HIDDEN FOR NEARLY TWO MILLENNIAIan Trumble, a curator of archaeology for Bolton Library & Museum Services, told Fox News Digital the hat survived thanks to Egypts dry conditions."In Egypt, textiles are often well-preserved in areas where the ground has remained dry, but do not survive in wetter areas nearer to the Nile or in lowland and valley areas that were prone to flooding, such as the Valley of the Kings," he said."This hat was excavated from a drier area of the city, but the Faiyum is generally a wetter area, so the survival of this piece is still quite remarkable."The hat is believed to be between 2,100 and 2,400 years old, dating to either the Greek or Roman period of Egyptian history."Our current theory is that it was worn by a soldier, who could have adapted it for Egyptian conditions when they moved with the Roman army from Anatolia to Egypt," Trumble said.ARCHAEOLOGISTS UNCOVER NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN TOMBS OF ANCIENT EGYPTIAN OFFICIALSThere are only two similar hats in existence, the expert noted. One is in Manchester, while the other is in Florence."We believe that Boltons example was always the more complete survival, but now that the conservation has been done, we believe it to be the best example in the world," said Trumble. The hat is made of woolen felt, but the exact type of wool is unknown until further testing.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTERIt would have been "particularly susceptible to damage from pests and natural degradation," the curator observed."The exterior of the hat is of a cream-colored wool, whereas the interior is a dyed red wool," Trumble said."The conservation allowed us to examine the construction of the hat in more detail, and it appears that the conical body of the hat may have been made earlier than the scalloped brim, as the brim is of a less dense felt and seems to have been added onto the body in a different type of stitch."The hat now sits in the entrance case to the museum's Egypt galleries. It will be moved to a permanent display in September. For more Lifestyle articles, visit foxnews.com/lifestyleThe Bolton Museum boasts the largest collection of ancient Egyptian textiles in the United Kingdom. Its collection spans over 7,000 years of Egyptian history, Trumble told Fox News Digital. The hat joins more than 8,000 other individual pieces in the museum."The fragility of the hat was one of the reasons that it was never put on display and could only remain flat," he noted."As part of the conservation, it has been cleaned and strengthened with a sympathetic support lining, allowing us to display it for the first time We are hoping that we can conduct further research into the hat in the future to find out more about its history."

Study disputes Gaza genocide charges, finds flawed data amid Hamas-driven narrative
FIRST ON FOX: A new study disputes claims thatIsrael committed genocide in Gaza following Hamas Oct. 7, 2023, massacre, arguing that allegations of starvation, indiscriminate bombing and deliberate civilian killings lack verifiable evidence. The report by researchers from the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies at Bar-Ilan University, "Debunking the Genocide Allegations: A Reexamination of the Israel-Hamas War" (2023-2025), contends that the genocide narrative has been driven by faulty data, uncritical sourcing and a humanitarian system vulnerable to manipulation.A key element of the genocide accusations is the claim that Israel deliberately starved Gazas population. The study argues that "claims of starvation prior to March 2, 2025, were based on erroneous data, circular citations, and a failure to critically review sources." While U.N. officials and rights groups maintained that 500 trucks a day were needed to prevent famine, prewar U.N. figures show Gaza averaged 292 daily in 2022only 73 of them carrying food.UN EXPERT REPEATS ISRAEL 'GENOCIDE' CLAIMS AFTER US CALLS FOR HER REMOVAL"That was completely adequate to meet demand," report co-author Danny Orbach told Fox News Digital. The study says Israel regularly surpassed the food supply needed during the war, averaging more than 100 trucks a day through March 2025. During a ceasefire-for-hostage deal, that number climbed to about 600 daily."The idea thatHamas didnt seize aid is absurd," Orbach said. "In every conflict, armed groups take the bulk of humanitarian supplies. We have documents and testimonies proving Hamas did so."The report argues that genocide allegations spread through what Orbach called an "inverted funnel of information." Journalists and aid workers in Gaza often depended on Hamas-linked translators and fixers, whose accounts filtered into U.N. reports, mainstream media and online platforms."The average Westerner sees dozens of reports about Israeli crimes and assumes they must be true. But they all trace back to a handful of Hamas-affiliated sources," Orbach said. The second factor is "humanitarian bias"the tendency to exaggerate conditions to prompt action. "Organizations warn of famine before it happens, relying on dubious facts to change reality. Questioning becomes an immoral act," Orbach said. The genocide allegation also rests on claims that Israel intentionally targeted civilians, but the study acknowledges civilian deaths while finding no evidence of a systematic policy of massacre.Orbach cited BBC data showing that between May 2024 and January 2025, 550 people were killed in designated safe zonesjust 2.1% to 3.5% of total casualties, even though half of Gazas population was concentrated there for much of the period.ISRAEL TURNS TABLES ON UN OFFICIAL CLAIMING 'GENOCIDE' IN GAZA WITH BASIC QUESTIONS"That indicates the zones were relatively safe, despite Hamas using them to launch rockets," Orbach stated. The report notes that context is crucial, stating that Hamas deliberately positioned itself in civilian areas, used human shields, and blocked evacuations to increase civilian casualties and international condemnation of Israel."Hamas exposes its own people to danger intentionally so Israel will be blamed," Orbach said. While critics have accused the Israeli Air Force of indiscriminate bombing, the study finds that strikes generally targeted military objectives, though civilian casualties were inevitable."The IDF is the first army in history to issuefocused warnings, deliver large-scale aid into enemy territory, and sacrifice surprise to protect civilians," he said. "You cannot fight an enemy embedded in 500 kilometers of tunnels, dressed as civilians without massive destruction."The study pays particular attention to casualty figures published by the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, claiming they were manipulated to create misleading impressions of the demographics of the dead. It presents alternative statistical models suggesting combatant fatalities may have been underreported, distorting the civilian-to-combatant ratio. The report says that genocide requires systematic intent to destroy a peoplesomething it finds absent in Gaza. "You dont see the hallmarks of genocidal warfare here," Orbach said. "There are no campaigns of rape, frontal massacres or close-range executions. In other conflicts inthe Middle East, dozens of such atrocities occurred in just a few hours of fighting."Orbach and his fellow authors conclude that allegations of genocide against Israel rely on politicized narratives, selective data and the exploitation of humanitarian discourse."Analyzing devastation or civilian deaths without understanding Hamas tactics is absurd," he stated.

AI video tech fast-tracks humanoid robot training
One of the biggest hurdles in developing humanoid robots is the sheer amount of training data required. Teaching machines to act like humans demands massive video datasets. Collecting that data is expensive, time-consuming and difficult to scale. This challenge has slowed progress toward making robots useful in everyday environments such as homes, hospitals and offices.Sign up for my FREE CyberGuy ReportGet my best tech tips, urgent security alerts, and exclusive deals delivered straight to your inbox. Instead of relying solely on endless hours of physical-world data, Vidar generates synthetic training environments from just a small amount of real video. By blending real data with AI-generated video, Vidar makes training more efficient, scalable and affordable.Vidar works by decoupling perception from control. First, it uses ShengShu's Vidu video model to learn from both real and synthetic videos. Then, a task-agnostic system called AnyPos translates that knowledge into motor commands for robots. This modular setup allows for faster training and easier deployment across different types of robots.Unlike traditional methods that require robots to physically interact with the world to learn, Vidar can simulate complex, lifelike scenarios virtually. Remarkably, it only needs about 20 minutes of training data, between 1/80 and 1/1200 of what leading models require. That efficiency makes it possible to scale robot training to levels never seen before.CHINESE TECH FIRM SHARES ROBOT TRAINING SECRETS WITH THE WORLDVidar is more than just a research tool. Its design means robots can adapt quickly to new tasks and environments. That could unlock real-world applications in eldercare, home assistance, healthcare, and smart manufacturing. By bridging the gap between simulation and reality, Vidar is positioning humanoid robots as practical helpers rather than futuristic concepts.HUMANOID ROBOT PERFORMS MEDICAL PROCEDURES VIA REMOTE CONTROLFor consumers, Vidar brings the idea of household or workplace robot helpers closer to reality. Instead of waiting decades for robots to mature, scalable training could speed up deployment in everyday settings. This could mean robots assisting you with chores, supporting eldercare, or even helping in medical environments sooner than expected.Take my quiz: How safe is your online security?Think your devices and data are truly protected? Trump escalates fight with Pritzker as bloody Chicago weekend sparks troop warning
President Donald Trump and his administration have launched a crusade against Illinois lawmakers whove refused offers to send in National Guard troops to Chicago following a violent Labor Day weekend in the city. While Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and other state leaders remain adamant that National Guard troops are not welcome in Chicago, the Trump administration has turned up the heat on Pritzker to accept them amid Trumps crime crackdown in Washington."At least 54 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, 8 people were killed... Pritzker needs help badly, he just doesnt know it yet," Trump said in a Tuesday social media post. "I will solve the crime problem fast, just like I did in DC. Chicago will be safe again, & soon. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"WHITE HOUSE SLAMS PRITZKER, BLUE CITIES AS CRIME FIGHT ESCALATES: 'DECLINE IS A CHOICE'Trump issued another post on social media Tuesday morning, labeling Chicago the "murder capital."Trump doubled down on his sentiments later in the Oval Office, and said that places like Afghanistan "dont even come close" to the crime in Chicago. Additionally, he said he had decided he would send National Guard troops to Chicago, despite Pritzkers opposition."If the governor of Illinois would call me up, I would love to do it," Trump told reporters later on Tuesday. "Now, we're going to do it anyway. We have the right to do it because I have an obligation to protect this country."Other members of the administration also weighed in on Chicagos violence over Labor Day weekend. For example, JD Vance shared a post quoting Pritzker claiming that Trump was "manufacturing a crisis," while depicting Chicago Labor Day crime statistics.Additionally, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said that Democrats would rather let their constituents suffer than accept Trumps offer.PRITZKER SAYS 'ACTION WILL BE MET WITH A RESPONSE' AFTER TRUMP THREATENS TO SEND NATIONAL GUARD TO CHICAGO"Local Democrat leaders would rather knowingly put their residents in harms way than let President Trump help," Jackson said in a Tuesday post on X. "These people are sick!"Pritzkers office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital. However, Pritzker remained staunch in his opposition to National Guard troops in Chicago following Trumps social media posts."Just a lovely day here," Pritzker said in a video posted to social media Tuesday. "No emergency, so Donald Trump understands, no emergency in the city of Chicago to send troops in."Separately, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said in an August statement that crime is down in Chicago. He said the city in the past year has reduced homicides by more than 30%, robberies by 35% and shootings by almost 40%.Even so, the White House has pointed to local reports that Chicago has had the most murders of any U.S. city for the past 13 years. However, 2024 FBI data shows that Chicago does not have the most murders per capita and isn't listed in the top five cities for murder per capita.Pritzker previously has called Trumps push to bring National Guard troops to Chicago "unconstitutional" and "un-American."GOV. PRITZKER SAYS TRUMP TRYING TO 'MANUFACTURE A CRISIS' AS ADMIN PLANS NATIONAL GUARD DEPLOYMENT TO CHICAGONational Guard troops are reserve forces that are activated to handle state and federal operations, like natural disasters. State governments typically oversee their respective National Guard forces. However, the federal government oversees the District of Columbia National Guard. In June, Trump deployed California National Guard troops to Los Angeles in response to immigration riots there controversially circumventing the authority of California Gov. Gavin Newsom.Newsom, a Democrat, ultimately filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration for federalizing the National Guard to respond to those riots. A federal judge in California ruled on Tuesday that Trumps decision to deploy the troops to Los Angeles violated federal law.

Democrats grapple with progressive agenda versus moderate appeal as party regroups in Trump era
Democrats convened as a party for the first time this week since last falls electoral bloodletting.Democrats must right their ship in 2026 and 2028.But the question is whether the party will still list to the left.At the Democratic National Committees summer meeting in Minneapolis, DNC member Bill Owen focused on DEI.MIDTERM ELECTIONS ARE AS UNPREDICTABLE AS EVER AS 2026 LOOMS"To my Republican friends and fellow citizens, I say, who profess to be active Christians, I remind them that DEI is the very foundation of the Christian church," said Owen. Some Democrats are still pitching progressive ideas, like packing the Supreme Court."It calls upon us to call on Congress and the White House when Democrats retake them, to revisit the size and structure of the Supreme Court," said DNC member Laurence Zakson from California. "It is important to all of us that the courts be a check on the executive branch."President Trump isnt on the ballot in 2026, but midterm elections are almost always a referendum on the president and his performance. Thats why Democrats are still targeting their favorite foil: Trump.REPUBLICAN SEN. JONI ERNST OF IOWA WON'T SEEK RE-ELECTION"We are not giving over this country to some dictator with swollen ankles who thinks that he's going to be a king," said Malcolm Kenyatta, a DNC member from Pennsylvania. One delegate from California argued that because of ICE raids, things were even better during the COVID-19 pandemic for Latinos."We're living in worse times than the times of the pandemic. It is just grueling. Many families, whether documented or undocumented, have gone without working," said Democratic delegate Ada Briceo. "It's just a huge struggle."Tough subjects still expose fissures in the party.Democrats remain split over the Middle East crisis. The party rejected one resolution over the Middle East sidestepping the issue of supplying weapons to Israel."The Democratic Party may not have influence when it comes directly to negotiations with Hamas," said DNC member Allison Minnerly. "But what they do have control of is the weapons and funding that they supply for the Israeli government."The DNC finally approved a resolution authored by DNC Chair Ken Martin, demanding a cease-fire and supporting aid shipments."This crisis in Gaza is urgent. And my resolution is focused on the humanitarian crisis and makes clear that it must be addressed as the emergency that it is," said Martin. "Now I know that there are some who are interested in making changes today. But as we've seen, there is a divide in our party on this issue."The DNC green-lighted the resolution. And then, after adoption, Martin withdrew it."No one should confuse unity with unanimity," said Martin. "We can disagree in this party and still be unified. And as a result, I'm going to ask us to withdraw this resolution."So much for clarity.FIGHTING OVER POLICING DC MOVES TO CONGRESS AS PARTIES SPLIT ON CONTROLThat said, Democrats are trying to revert to the former core of the Democratic Party: organized labor. Trump coaxed many blue-collar workers and union laborers into his coalition in 2024. Now Democrats are trying to reclaim that crucial bloc."Working people have to understand that a way to stand up and to respond is by organizing and organizing politically through the Democratic Party, because the most important form of resistance is voting and voting Democratic," said DNC member Stuart Appelbaum.Democrats are searching for good signs. One is that they have overperformed expectations in more than 40 special elections at the local level across the country since Trump took office. That includes flipping a solid red district in an Iowa state Senate contest in late August."We know the work in front of us," said Martin. "Rebuilding trust with so many people in this country right now who've lost faith in the Democratic Party."But as the president deploys federal troops to the streets of Washington, D.C., and has his eyes on Chicago, Los Angeles, Baltimore and Boston, one veteran Democrat believes the party remains clueless on crime."Democrats should have responded strongly and said, Yes, let's work together. I'll meet you in the White House. We'll see how we could reduce these murders," said longtime Democratic pollster Mark Penn on Fox.The DNC concluded its summer meeting in Minneapolis just as there was a deadly mass shooting at a nearby Catholic elementary school."Everything we do is to make sure that things like this never happen again. Especially to these little, little children," said Martin. In a post on social media, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who analysts believe has his eye on the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, said the country cant even get through the first week of school without a shooting."The GOP will do absolutely nothing" on gun violence, declared Newsom, adding that the Republican response was "sick."Democrats have 14 months to figure all of this out before the midterms. Democrats are tinkering with conducting a mini-convention next year to energize voters ahead of the midterms. Success in 2026 would certainly invigorate the party ahead of the presidential election."Because we are living in unprecedented times, and, as everyone has said, we have to fight fire with fire," said North Carolina DNC member Reyna Walters-Morgan, citing what unfolded in recent weeks over congressional redistricting in Texas. "We have to say thank you to the Democrats in Texas."An immediate report card will come for the Democrats in less than a month. The Democratic base will watch how House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., wrestle with Trump over a potential government shutdown on Oct. 1. Democrats must demonstrate some fight. Democratic votes are needed to avoid a shutdown. But some Democrats believe that mounting a fierce defense could trigger a shutdown and that would actually help Trump and the GOP.What this underscores is that Democrats have incredibly challenging hands to play right now both on Capitol Hill and across the country. But what Democrats must decide first is if they hold to liberal principles or tilt toward the right to attract moderate voters and Republicans who Trump tapped for his coalition.Running against Trump didnt work in 2024. So Democrats must chart their own electoral path, even if that infuriates forces which lug the party to the left.

Minneapolis Catholic school shooter's life marked by chaos before mass killing: timeline
A week after a crazed 23-year-old shot and killed two children and injured 18 more victims at a Catholic mass in Minneapolis, details about a chaotic personal life and a meticulously planned attack by a maniac who was "obsessed with the idea of killing children" have begun to unravel. Robin Westman, formerly Robert Westman, committed the heinous act at the Annunciation Catholic Church the morning of Aug. 27 before committing suicide at the scene. As a child, Westman attended both the school and the church, which is located next door. The years and months leading up to the unthinkable mass shooting appear fraught with chaos in the shooter's personal life.MINNEAPOLIS POLICE REVEAL MORE ABOUT CHURCH SCHOOL SHOOTER'S MOTIVECourt records show that Mary Grace Westman and her ex-husband, James Westman, divorced in 2012. Robin, then Robert, was 11 at the time and had two older siblings. The custody agreement showed Mary Grace as his primary caretaker, with his father given custody every other weekend. Both parents had Minneapolis addresses until at least 2021.Citing police records, NBC reported that local police responded to a "criminal offense" at the suburban Westman home. Further details are scant, but the case was closed. Two years later, police in Eagan, Minnesota were called to the home, this time for an incident described only as "mental health."The incident report noted that Eagan police "assisted Mendota Heights with a check welfare of a juvenile," according to NBC.It is unclear who the juvenile in need of a mental health check was.Robert Westman became Robin Westman in 2019.Westman's mother, Mary Grace Westman, signed off on the name change.Court documents show the shooters mother applied for her son to legally change his name, writing in 2019, "minor identifies as female and wants her name to reflect the identification."MINNEAPOLIS CHURCH SHOOTER ROBIN WESTMAN'S FORMER CLASSMATE SAYS SHE KNEW SOMETHING WAS OFF'Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara confirmed that the shooter's mother worked at the school for several years, and retired in 2021.According to a warrant, James Westman told police that Westman had "recently" broken up with a romantic partner. In that same warrant, the elder Westman told police that the shooter moved in with a friend at the St. Louis Park address that police searched after the shooting.Neighbors speculated that Westman could have moved into the new location just two weeks prior to the shooting, while some said he moved in earlier this summer.Westman visited the church in the weeks leading up to the shooting in order to "scout" the location, CNN reported. He had interactions with people there, and told them he was trying to reconnect with his faith. The soon-to-be mass killer may have been to the location more than once leading up to the attack, according to journal writings analyzed by The New York Post.According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, Westman left his job at a marijuana dispensary called RISE only 11 days before the shooting. An unnamed coworker told the paper that he worked as a "personal care specialist" and worked with patients who were part of a state medical marijuana program. That coworker cryptically said "recent events have been the catalyst for this thing he has been planning for a long time."RISE said in a statement that it was "deeply saddened" by the shooting, and offered condolences to the victims, their families and the community as a whole."We have been informed that the individual identified by authorities as the shooter was a former employee of our RISE Dispensary in Minnesota for several months this year," the company said. This individual was not employed by the company at the time of the incident."The company said it is fully cooperating with investigators. The day before the shooting, the Collier County Sheriff's Office responded to a juvenile welfare check at Mary Grace Westman's Naples, Florida condo.Deputies were looking for a child and the child's mother who they say previously lived with Westman at the home. "Contact was made with Mrs. Westman who stated the juvenile and the juveniles mother had previously lived there and were no longer living with her," the Collier County Sheriff's Office told Fox News Digital."Deputies later contacted the mother of the juvenile and confirmed the juvenile was okay. This call for service was not related to the incident in Minneapolis or the shooter."GUNS USED BY MINNEAPOLIS CHURCH SCHOOL SHOOTER ROBIN WESTMAN WERE PURCHASED LEGALLY, POLICE SAYWestman opened fire from outside the church just before 8:30 a.m. and fired more than 100 rounds, killing two and injuring eighteen others, including 15 children. The shooter wore all black and was found in possession of four firearms. The doors to the church were locked before mass began, which police said "likely saved countless lives."Police arrived on the scene within minutes, and by 9:00 a.m., announced that there was no further threat.8yearold Fletcher Merkel and 10yearold Harper Moyski were later identified as the deceased victims.Later in the day, a search warrant was executed at a St. Louis Park residence where Westman had been staying with a romantic partner until a recent breakup.Police also made contact with James Westman, the shooter's father, who confirmed that the shooter drove a minivan police found at the scene. The FBI arrived at the Naples condo in the afternoon, though she was not home when agents arrived, according to WINK.GRIEVING FATHER CALLS MINNEAPOLIS SHOOTER A 'COWARD' WHO TOOK LIFE OF HIS 8-YEAR-OLD SON FLETCHER DURING MASSMary Grace Westman has refused to cooperate with police in the wake of the attack, and has hired an attorney."She is completely distraught about the situation and has no culpability but is seeking an attorney to deal with calls like this," attorney Ryan Garry told Fox News. While the shooter's exact motive remains unknown, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Minnesota Joe Thompson said hatred aimed at everyone played a significant role."The shooter expressed hate towards almost every group imaginable. The shooter expressed hate towards Black people. The shooter expressed hate towards Mexican people. The shooter expressed hate towards Christian people. The shooter expressed hate towards Jewish people," Thompson continued. "In short, the shooter appeared to hate all of us. The shooter's heart was full of hate. There appears to be only one group that the shooter didn't hate. One group of people who the shooter admired. That group were the school shooters and mass murderers that are notorious in this country."The FBI is investigating the mass shooting as a hate crime.Mary Grace Westman did not return a comment request.Fox News' Michael Dorgan, Greg Wehner, Brooke Taylor, Stephanie Price and Greg Norman contributed to this report.

John Cornyn and his GOP challenger, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, appears to be tightening.Paxton, a MAGA champion and longtime ally of President Donald Trump who has been battered over the past decade by multiple controversies, enjoyed a comfortable double-digit lead over Cornyn in polling at the beginning of the summer. But the most recent surveys point to a closer contest, as the two Texas heavyweight politicians blast each other in what's turned into an expensive and bitterly brutal battle."While many in the media were writing Senator Cornyns political obituary in May and June, the current state of the race paints a far different picture," argues a state of the race memo from the Cornyn campaign that was released on Wednesday.RIVALS IN TEXAS REPUBLICAN SENATE PRIMARY COMPETE TO WRANGLE RUNAWAY DEMOCRATSThe memo from top Cornyn political advisers, which was shared first with Fox News Digital, highlights that "the race has significantly tightened with momentum on our campaigns side, with plenty of room for continued growth."TRUMP NOT ON BALLOT BUT FRONT-AND-CENTER IN 2025 ELECTIONSAnd the memo points to what it describes as "Ken Paxtons Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Summer," which included the blockbuster news that Paxton's wife of over 30 years filed for divorce on "biblical grounds," as well as reports alleging Paxton committed mortgage fraud by claiming multiple properties as his primary residence on bank loans.Paxton, in an interview Tuesday on Fox Business' "Mornings with Maria," pushed back against the allegations and accused Cornyn of "absolutely lying.""John Cornyn doesnt tell the full story. He slants it to make it seem like something bad happened," Paxton told host Maria Bartiromo.Paxton also took issue with the latest polls, saying "I dont think its as close as" the surveys suggest."I think the voters of Texas are pretty smart, especially Republican voters. In a primary, they know what John Cornyn hasnt done. They know what he has done," he added.SENATE DEMOCRATS RECRUITING TOP CANDIDATES IN PUSH TO WIN BACK MAJORITYAnd Paxton claimed that Texas Republicans "know that hes [Cornyn] voted against them on 2nd Amendment issues. Hes not been a Donald Trump supporter. Hes not been a border wall supporter. Hes been against the issues that most Texans have really cared about a lot. Thats going to come out in this election."And Paxton pledged that "well have enough money to talk to the voters about his record and my record."Senate Majority Leader John Thune, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), and the Senate Leadership Fund, the top super PAC backing Senate Republicans, are supporting Cornyn. But Trump, to date, remains neutral.Paxton spotlighted in his Fox Business interview that "Ive been a supporter of his [Trump] from the beginning and unlike John Cornyn, I havent flip-flopped in the last couple of months because I thought it was something popular.""We are very different in our loyalty and our approach to President Trump," he added.FOUR KEY SENATE SEATS THE GOP AIMS TO FLIP IN NEXT YEAR'S MIDTERM ELECTIONSBut Cornyn campaign senior adviser Matt Mackowiak, pointing to the tightening polls, told Fox News "the reason is Texas GOP primary voters are learning more about Senator Cornyns record of voting with President Trump more than 99% of the time and delivering conservative victories for Texas.""We have a plan to win this race, and we are executing it," Mackowiak touted. There's the possibility another Republican could enter the Senate primary.Three-term Rep. Wesley Hunt, a rising MAGA star who represents a Houston-area district, has been mulling a Senate run for months. Sources confirmed to Fox News earlier this year that Hunt had made his case to Trumps political team that he's the only person who can win both a GOP primary and a general election. As Hunt considers a Senate run, an aligned super PAC has been upping its ad spending throughout Texas this summer, to increase the congressman's name recognition in the state.
