WWW.FOXNEWS.COMDrinking specific vegetable juice could reduce older adults blood pressure, study findsBeetroot juice, which is rich in nitrates, has been linked to changing the community of bacteria living in the mouth. Now, a new study has found that drinking this juice couldreduce older adults blood pressure.Researchers at the University of Exeter compared the response of both younger and older participants to the juice and published the study in Free Radical Biology and Medicine.COMMON DAILY VITAMIN SHOWN TO SLOW AGING PROCESS OVER 4-YEAR PERIODThirty-nine participants under age 30, plus 36 individuals in their 60s and 70s, were split into two separate two-week phases. One group consumed nitrate-rich beetroot juice shots daily, while the other group a placebo group received a version without nitrates. Each group had a "wash-out period" between phases to reset their systems.Researchers practiced bacterial gene sequencing to identify which microbes were present in the participants mouths before and after each treatment.Older adults who drank nitrate-rich beetroot juice had fewer mouth bacteria called Prevotella, which is linked to inflammation, and more helpful bacteria like Neisseria.Fox News senior medical analyst Dr. Marc Siegel told Fox News Digitalthat nitrates lead to lower blood pressure by improving flexibility, decreasing resistance in blood vessels and lowering inflammation. The patients started the study with higher blood pressure, which went down after the beetroot juice but blood pressure didnt change with those in the placebo group."We know that foods that are high in dietary nitrates such as leafy greens, beets and lettuce can help lower blood pressure," said Siegel. He added, "Nitrates are converted to nitric oxide by your body. Nitric oxide is a key molecule in vascular health as it promotes the vessels to dilate and thus reduces blood pressure."Co-author Andy Jones, a professor at the University of Exeter, said in a press release that the study shows that "nitrate-rich foods alter the oral microbiome in a way that could result in less inflammation, as well as a lowering of blood pressure in older people."CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTERLee Beniston, an associate director of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, said the "research is a great example of how bioscience can help us better understand the complex links between diet, the microbiome and healthy aging.""By uncovering how dietary nitrate affects oral bacteria and blood pressure in older adults, the study opens up new opportunities for improving vascular health through nutrition," Beniston added. Both researchers shared that more research is needed.Siegel noted that "as we age, our levels of bioavailable nitric oxide lower, so it makes sense that we see more of a benefit in consuming dietary nitrates in older patients."He said the study does support the well-established belief that a good diet, high in fresh fruits and vegetables, can help manage many chronic medical conditions. For more Lifestyle articles, visit foxnews.com/lifestyleAnyone with high blood pressure or other medical conditions should check with doctors or medical experts before making dietary changes. WWW.FOXNEWS.COMMissing hiker's body found on Wyoming mountain range a month after eerie final text to wifeA Minnesota hiker was found deceased in Wyoming's Bighorn Mountains nearly a month after he sent a final text message to his wife and was not heard from again, authorities said Thursday. The body of Grant Gardner, 38, was found underneath a ledge near the summit of the 13,000-foot Cloud Peak by a professional climbing team from North Carolina, the Big Horn County Sheriffs Office said in a statement."While it's not the outcome we hoped for, we are hopeful this will provide much needed peace and closure to the family," the sheriffs office said.Gardner went missing on July 29 in the Cloud Peak Wilderness, where he had planned a three-day hike through the Misty Moon Lake area before eventually summiting Cloud Peak.MISSING FLORIDA MAN WHO WANDERED AWAY AT POPULAR NEW ENGLAND TOURIST DESTINATION FOUND DEADPhone records showed Gardner's last known contact was a message to his wife on that day, "letting her know he'd made it to the summit," the sheriffs office has said. Authorities said the text indicated "the climb was more taxing than he expected and he was tired."In the weeks that followed, the sheriffs office, search and rescue teams and volunteers tirelessly combed the wilderness for signs of Gardner without success. On Tuesday, the professional climbing team had summited Cloud Peak and began to descend on the northern route of the peak when they made a high-altitude camp and noticed "a slight reflection a few hundred feet above them underneath a ledge," the sheriffs office said. The climbers believed it was a backpack and notified the sheriffs office via satellite. They agreed to postpone their plans and wait for rescuers to arrive. When the rescuers arrived at daylight, they found Gardners remains near the backpack, the sheriff's office said, adding that his clothing "very closely" matched the terrain where he was climbing and was difficult to notice.TRAGEDY STRIKES AT POPULAR NATIONAL PARK AS CLIMBER MEETS FATAL END ON MOUNTAINGardner's body was recovered from the mountain and was brought home to his family. The 38-year-old is a father of two children, ages 13 and 11, Cowboy State Daily reported. His wife, Lauren, previously told the outlet that her husband had been hiking for over a decade and liked to go solo."Its all definitely surreal," she told the outlet as the search was still ongoing. "And Im in shock, I think, and trying to stay strong for the kids. This has never happened in all the years hes gone out. He knows what hes doing and has the skills. Im just hoping right now."The sheriff's office noted that the case was given to the Big Horn County Coroners Office to determine time, manner and cause of death, as is routine."Nothing should be read into this transition," the sheriffs office said. "We believe Gardner succumbed to a tragic accident as we all have surmised."The sheriffs office also thanked the professional climbing team for their help, saying they were in the right place at the right time."Special thanks to a spectacular professional group of technical climbers who were in exactly the right spot, at the right moment, with the right light, to notice a small piece of fabric on a pack that was otherwise undetectable, for selflessly aborting their plans and working with SAR Teams to find Gardner, providing closure to his family," it said.Fox News' Greg Norman contributed to this report.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 26 Views 0 voorbeeld

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMDwayne Johnsons fear fueled an MMA-style transformation for his most challenging role yetDwayne "The Rock" Johnson put his fears aside to take on a very different role than the action-packed parts hes known for.Johnson transformed into MMA fighter Mark Kerr for the sports drama, "The Smashing Machine." In an interview with Vanity Fair, Johnson explained that this was the first role in years that made him nervous."It was very real. I had not experienced that in a very, very, very long time, where I was really scared and thinking, I dont know if I can do this. Can I do this?DWAYNE 'THE ROCK' JOHNSON'S PLANE FORCED TO RETURN TO HAWAII DUE TO 'MECHANICAL ISSUE'"I realized that maybe these opportunities werent coming my way because I was too scared to explore this stuff," he told the outlet. To properly take on the role, Johnson had to be plastered with 13 to 14 prosthetics every day and would just "disappear" when he walked on set."I just sat in front of that mirror for three to four hours and watched it all change. There were about 13 or 14 different prosthetics. Subtle, yet I think very impactful. By the time I got to set, I was Mark Kerr and I felt it, from how he walked to how he talked and how he looked at life," he said.Johnson became familiar with Kerr's story after seeing it portrayed in the 2002 documentary, "The Smashing Machine." In the doc, he saw Kerr battle his painkiller addiction, which hit close to home for the actor."I lost a lot of my friends to addiction and to suicide in the late 90s, early-to-mid 2000s, there were a lot of untimely, very early deaths," Johnson recalled."What a walking contradiction in the most beautiful way Mark was and still is. Soft-spoken, sweet, kindyet at one time the most lethal man on the planet," Johnson said. After watching the documentary, he immediately respected Kerr for getting himself out of a dark situation and hoped to play him on screen one day.Fast-forward two decades; Johnson was given the opportunity by Benny and Josh Safdie. Johnson's "Jungle Cruise" co-star, Emily Blunt, also stars in the movie as Kerr's then-girlfriend, Dawn Staples.Dawn and Mark's volatile relationship will be a focus of the film. The couple's final fight takes place at their home and Safdie made sure to hide the cameras in the movie set."You didnt see a camera you didnt see a light, a setup, nothing," Johnson told the outlet.Blunt chimed in, "It was like High Noon in the kitchen a lot of the time, and that was incredibly transporting and rattling, because you dont have the technicalities around you that help you flash in and out of this pain of what you are portraying.LIKE WHAT YOURE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS"We would be shaken. The movie was sponsored by tequila, just for us to come down from some of those scenes. They were bonkers to try to come back to earth from."Blunt was able to look at Dawn and Mark's relationship from another perspective, since she was able to work closely with the pair during filming."However eruptive that relationship was, it was centered in this huge need for each other a codependency," Blunt said. "Its an all-consuming existence to be a fighter, and you need everybody in your life to get in line with that. I just dont think Dawn was the kind of person just to get in line."She continued, "Ive actually never played somebody who is still with us. Im very grateful to her. I just needed to be her advocate."Johnson credited his close friendship with Blunt for their on-screen chemistry."If Emily and I werent best friends, I dont know that we couldve gone to the places we went to. That closeness created the trust, which then allowed for the vulnerability, which then allowed for [us to] go anywhere," he said.Blunt echoed similar remarks about her co-star and told Vanity Fair, "It seemed to be an effortless immersion like a full disappearance, spooky. From day one, he was elsewhere."CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTERShe added: "He has absorbed and borne witness to so much of what Mark has experienced that it was such a beautiful thing to watch this person let go of having to be an image, of having to be The Rock, and crack himself in half for this role."Johnson is grateful to be taking on a different role than those he's used to, such as "Jumanji" and "Red One.""After all these years Ive been making movies, it became so glaring to me. Its almost like a Theres a song from George Strait called Where Have I Been All My Life? This reminded me of that. Where have I been?"The thing I was fearing is the thing that actually gives me the greatest peace a safe place to explore all this stuff that Ive experienced over the years. I have a place to put it," he said."The Smashing Machine" premiered Labor Day Weekend at the Venice Film Festival and will be released in theaters Oct. 3.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP0 Reacties 0 aandelen 26 Views 0 voorbeeld

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMKhanna, Massie to hold news conference with Epstein victims: 'People are going to be outraged'MANCHESTER, N.H. With Congress back in session this week, Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California and Republican Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky are reigniting their push for the Justice Department to release files in the Jeffrey Epstein case.Khanna says that "people are going to be outraged" after seeing a news conference he and Massie are holding on Wednesday with 10 victims of the late convicted sex offender. The news conference is part of the effort by Khanna and Massie to pass through the House a bill requiring the Justice Department to release its files on the Epstein case."These victims haven't spoken for decades. When Epstein got that lenient plea deal, no one talked to the victims or their lawyers," Khanna said Monday in a Fox News Digital interview.A NEXT STEP IN THE JEFFREY EPSTEIN INVESTIGATION INVOLVES HIS BIRTHDAY BOOK"My belief is, when the American people actually hear the victims for the first time, they are going to sympathize, their hearts are going to be broken, and all the victims are saying is for closure," he predicted.EPSTEIN ESTATE HIT WITH NEW HOUSE SUBPOENA FOR 'CLIENT LIST,' CALL LOGSKhanna argued that "there are a lot of other rich, powerful men, politicians, business leaders, who have committed abuse and who have not been held accountable. That's what we're going to hear on Sept. 3, and people are going to be outraged, and I don't see how, after that, the House can't vote for the release of these files."The White House's handling of the Epstein case sparked outcry earlier this summer, after the Justice Department and the FBI appeared to close the book on their investigation after announcing they had uncovered no evidence of an Epstein client list. The move infuriated many of President Donald Trump's MAGA supporters and allies who had anticipated blockbuster revelations with some calling for Attorney General Pam Bondi to be fired. And the president aggravated some in MAGA world a month ago by calling the Epstein case a Democratic hoax and arguing that "PAST supporters" had "bought into this bullsh--."TRUMP DOJ HANDING EPSTEIN DOCUMENTS TO HOUSE OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE ON FRIDAY AS SUBPOENA DEADLINE LOOMSKhanna and Massie are optimistic they have the votes."I'm confident we're going to get the 218 votes for the discharge petition," Khanna told Fox News Digital, as he was interviewed ahead of addressing the New Hampshire AFL-CIO's annual Labor Day breakfast."We've got 212 Democrats and 12 Republicans, including Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert. Look, this is not about Donald Trump, and it's not partisan. This is about justice for the victims of rich and powerful men who abused underage girls."And he emphasized that "in this country, people want transparency. They want accountability. I'm confident we're going to get the 218 votes for the discharge petition."Epstein died by suicide in a New York federal prison in 2019 while awaiting federal charges related to sex trafficking,In the ensuing years, there has been intense speculation and theories on who else may have been involved in the sex ring the financier allegedly operated.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 37 Views 0 voorbeeld

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMKari Lake cuts 532 government positions at Voice of America, parent agencyKari Lake, the acting CEO of the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which oversees Voice of America (VOA), announced Friday that 532 government positions have been eliminated.Lake has been tasked with restructuring USAGM and its affiliated broadcasters after President Donald Trumps March 14 executive order, which aimed to dismantle USAGM operations. But Trumps order has faced legal hurdles, and a federal judge blocked Lake from firing Michael Abramowitz as Voice of Americas director last week.As Americans headed into Labor Day Weekend, Lake announced her latest plans."Tonight, the U.S. Agency for Global Media initiated what is known as a reduction in force, or RIF, of a large number of its full-time federal employees. We are conducting this RIF at the President's direction to help reduce the federal bureaucracy, improve agency service, and save the American people more of their hard-earned money," Lake wrote in a memo that she posted on social media.APPEALS COURT BACKS VOA OVERHAUL KARI LAKE SAYS WILL 'MODERNIZE' AGENCY: HUGE VICTORY FOR PRESIDENT TRUMP"USAGM will continue to fulfill its statutory mission after this RIF and will likely improve its ability to function and provide the truth to people across the world who live under murderous Communist governments and other tyrannical regimes," Lake continued. "I look forward to taking additional steps in the coming months to improve the functioning of a very broken agency and make sure America's voice is heard abroad where it matters most."The Washington Post reported that "multiple recipients" of the memo said the termination date is Sept. 30.The move is the latest attempt to dismantle VOA, an international broadcaster originally created to combat enemy propaganda during World War II.VOICE OF AMERICA RESTORED BY JUDGE AFTER TRUMP DISMANTLED TAXPAYER-FUNDED OUTLET IN MARCHVOA White House Bureau chief Patsy Widakuswara, one of the lead plaintiffs suing Lake over her attempts to shutter VOA, issued a statement about the memo."We find Lakes continued attacks on our agency abhorrent. We are looking forward to her deposition to hear whether her plan to dismantle VOA was done with the rigorous review process that Congress requires," Widakuswara said."So far we have not seen any evidence of that, and as such we will continue to fight for what we believe to be our rights under the law," she continued.Trumps executive order led to the administrative leave of about 1,300 VOA employees and the termination of numerous contracts, effectively pausing the broadcaster's activities for the first time in its 83-year history.VOICE OF AMERICA EMPLOYEES FILE LAWSUIT AGAINST THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION AFTER PRESIDENT DISMANTLED AGENCYCLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPFox News Digitals Jasmine Baehr and Emma Colton contributed to this report.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 37 Views 0 voorbeeld

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMPrevious CDC directors accuse RFK Jr. of endangering all Americans in NY Times essaySeveral former directors and former acting directors at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) condemned Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in a joint New York Times guest essay on Monday. In the essay, the nine officials across Democratic and Republican administrations accused the Trump appointee of weakening the nations public health system."What Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has done to the CDC and to our nations public health system over the past several monthsculminating in his decision to fire Dr. Susan Monarez as CDC director days agois unlike anything we have ever seen at the agency, and unlike anything our country has ever experienced," they wrote.CDC DIRECTOR SUSAN MONAREZ REFUSES TO BE FIRED AS OTHER OFFICIALS CALL IT QUITSMonarez was removed as the head of the agency last week, less than a month after her confirmation. She reportedly refused Kennedy's directives to adopt new limitations on the availability of some vaccines, including approvals for COVID-19 shots.Four other senior CDC officials resigned, pointing to Monarezs removal, as well as Kennedys vaccine policies, as the reasons for their exit. Additionally, hundreds of workers at the agency also walked out of the CDC's headquarters in Atlanta last month in support of their former colleagues. The Times guest essay's authors William Foege, William Roper, David Satcher, Jeffrey Koplan, Richard Besser, Tom Frieden, Anne Schuchat, Rochelle P. "He canceled investments in promising medical research that will leave us ill-prepared for future health emergencies. He replaced experts on federal health advisory committees with unqualified individuals who share his dangerous and unscientific views."They also blasted the secretary for ending U.S. support of global vaccination programs and justifying the move with "flawed research" and "inaccurate statements." Additionally, they said he supported federal legislation that would cause "millions of people with health insurance through Medicaid to lose their coverage."The collection of former directors said that, because of these actions, rural Americans and people with disabilities will have less access to health care, lower-income Americans will have less access to treatment, and children could lose access to "lifesaving vaccines."CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTUREIn his own New York Times guest essay published on Saturday, Sen.
