Illinois leaders are pushing back on President Donald Trumps suggestion that he might send in National Guard troops to the state to crack down on Chicago crime akin to what hes done to address crime in Washington.While Trump has floated that multiple other cities in the U.S. including Chicago and New York could also receive an influx of National Guard troops to cut down on crime, Illinois leaders are sounding the alarm and making it clear those troops arent welcome in the Land of Lincoln."Forcing the military, uninvited, into Chicago to intimidate Americans in their own communities does not make our nation stronger, it simply distracts the military from executing its core mission of keeping Americans safe from real adversaries who wish us harm," Sen. On the four-year anniversary of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and the Abbey Gate bombing that killed 13 American service members veterans who risked their lives to rescue civilians trapped in Kabul are now speaking out.Dennis Price, a special operations forces (SOF) veteran and founder of "Heroes for Humanity," worked to rescue many trapped in the newly-Taliban-controlled territory."On this four-year anniversary of the disastrous Afghan withdrawal carried out by the previous administration, we remember a failure that will haunt thousands," Price said."Their stories are written in blood and will forever go down in history as such. The U.S. Coast Guard on Monday offloaded more than 76,000 pounds of illegal drugs in Florida, marking the largest-ever drug seizure in a single operation in its history.The Cutter Hamilton offloaded the drugs at Port Everglades, Florida, as part of Operation Pacific Viper. The drugs, which totaled 61,740 pounds of cocaine and 14,400 pounds of marijuana, were worth $473 million, the agency said.With a lethal dose of cocaine being as little as 1.2 grams, the amount offloaded by Hamiltons crew was enough to potentially kill 23 million people, the Coast Guard said.COAST GUARD OVERHAUL TAKES OFF AMID TRUMP ADMINISTRATIONS IMMIGRATION, NARCOTICS CRACKDOWN"To put this into perspective, the potential 23 million lethal doses of cocaine seized by the U.S. Coast Guard and our partners are enough to fatally overdose the entire population of the state of Florida, underscoring the immense threat posed by transnational drug trafficking to our nation," said Rear Adm. On July 23, the crew seized more than 9,160 pounds of cocaine from a vessel near Socorro Island, Mexico.The Coast Guard noted that 80% of illegal drug interdictions are made on the high seas.

A U.S. District judge on Tuesday rejected Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugans request to dismiss allegations that she helped an undocumented immigrant evade federal authorities earlier this year.Dugan was arrested in April after allegedly helping Eduardo Flores-Ruiz avoid plainclothes Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents who were trying to serve him a warrant.Her attorneys argued she is entitled to judicial immunity for her official acts. They also said the federal government overstepped its authority by arresting and charging her.The defense team also claimed the charges violate the U.S. Constitutions 10th Amendment and the principle of separation of powers.FEDERAL CASE AGAINST MILWAUKEE JUDGE ACCUSED OF CONCEALING ILLEGAL MIGRANT SHOULD CONTINUE, JUDGE RECOMMENDSDugans attorneys further argued that Dugan can only be charged with conduct "wholly unrelated" to her judicial duties, such as taking bribes or violating constitutional rights, though she has not been accused of either in this case.U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman ruled on the motion Tuesday."Ultimately, as the Supreme Court has stated, the official seeking absolute immunity bears the burden of showing that such immunity is justified for the function in question," Adelman wrote, adding that Dugan has not done so here. "I cannot say as a matter of law that the defendants alleged conduct falls within even this more limited version of immunity."MILWAUKEE JUDGE NOT IMMUNE FROM CHARGES AFTER ALLEGEDLY HELPING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT EVADE ICE, PROSECUTORS SAY"There is no basis for granting immunity simply because some of the allegations in the indictment describe conduct that could be considered part of a judges job," Adelman added.Prosecutors allege that Dugan helped Flores-Ruiz and his attorney exit her courtroom through a back door on April 18, after learning that ICE agents were in the building to arrest him.TRUMP ADMIN MAY NOT DEPORT MIGRANT TO CONGO DURING IMMIGRATION PROCEEDINGS, FEDERAL JUDGE RULESA federal indictment alleges Dugan "falsely" told the agents they needed a judicial warrant and directed them to go to the chief judges office. Dugan then addressed the case off the record instead of holding the scheduled hearing. Flores-Ruiz faces three misdemeanor battery charges, and despite Dugans efforts, he was arrested.Adelman has scheduled a hearing about Dugans motion for Sept. 3.Both federal prosecutors and Dugans defense team have said they would like a trial to begin before the end of the year. President Donald Trump on Tuesday told reporters that he believes crime will be a major focus in the 2026 midterm elections, a theme he has hit on heavily in recent days to drum up support for his controversial "federalization" push in Washington, D.C.Speaking Tuesday at a Cabinet meeting in the White House, Trump was asked about his push to "federalize" the nation's capital by invoking the D.C. Home Rule Act to deploy hundreds of D.C. National Guard troops throughout the city an effort he has suggested on more than one occasion should be adopted by some Democrat-led cities, including Chicago."I think crime is going to be the big thing," Trump said, in regard to the 2026 midterm elections. The rest of his answer was unambiguous if hyperbolic and lacking in specifics."The Republicans are the party that wants to stop crime," he said.
