Over 2B users face phishing risks after Google data leak
A tech leader like Google often seems invincible when it comes to cybersecurity attacks, but that is not the case. Earlier this month, the search giant confirmed that attackers had accessed one of its corporate Salesforce instances. According to a Google spokesperson, this system stored basic, and largely publicly available business information, such as contact details and notes from small and medium-sized companies. It did not store customer data from Google Cloud or consumer products like Gmail, Drive or Calendar.Google says it terminated the malicious activity, completed an impact analysis, and provided mitigations. Therefore, no further action is required by users.NEW GOOGLE AI MAKES ROBOTS SMARTER WITHOUT THE CLOUDSign up for my FREE CyberGuy ReportGet my best tech tips, urgent security alerts, and exclusive deals delivered straight to your inbox. Google confirmed the incident and clarified that the information was mostly public business contact data and did not include passwords or payment information. The company stressed that the breach affected only a corporate Salesforce system, not consumer Gmail or Google Cloud accounts.Still, attackers are exploiting the news of the breach to fuel phishing and vishing scams, tricking people into giving up sensitive information. According to PC World, some users have already reported an increase in phishing attempts that reference Google services.STOP GOOGLE FROM FOLLOWING YOUR EVERY MOVEOne of the main tactics involves scam phone calls, also known as vishing. A Reddit post highlighted a wave of calls coming from the 650 area code, which is linked to Google's headquarters. In these calls, scammers pose as Google employees and warn victims of a supposed security breach. They then instruct users to reset their Gmail password and share it with them. This locks the rightful owner out of the account and gives the attacker complete control.Separately from the Salesforce incident, Google Cloud customers are also facing another type of attack. Hackers are trying to exploit outdated access addresses using a method called the dangling bucket. This can allow them to inject malware or steal data. Both businesses and individuals are vulnerable to losing control over sensitive information if targeted in this way.Gmail and Google Cloud serve nearly 2.5 billion people, which makes the scale of the risk significant. Although the initial breach did not expose passwords, attackers are using the news of the incident to trick people into revealing their login details.Google accounts are often a prime target for scammers. The good news is that protecting yourself doesn't require advanced technical skills. A few practical steps can drastically reduce your chances of becoming a victim.Phishing remains the most common way scammers steal Google account credentials. A fake email or text may claim your account has been locked or that you need to verify suspicious activity. Clicking the link usually takes you to a counterfeit login page that looks almost identical to the real Google sign-in screen. To avoid falling for these tricks, check the sender's email address carefully, hover over links before clicking, and avoid entering your Google password on any page that doesn't start with accounts.google.com.The best way to safeguard yourself from malicious links that install malware, potentially accessing your private information, is to have antivirus software installed on all your devices. This protection can also alert you to phishing emails and ransomware scams, keeping your personal information and digital assets safe.Get my picks for the best 2025 antivirus protection winners for your Windows, Mac, Android & iOS devices atCyberguy.com/LockUpYourTechReusing weak passwords across multiple sites is an open invitation for scammers. If one site is breached, your Google account becomes vulnerable. A strong, unique password is your first line of defense. The easiest way to manage this is with a password manager. It can generate complex passwords, store them securely, and fill them in automatically when you need them. This way, you never have to remember dozens of different logins, and attackers can't guess their way in.Next, see if your email has been exposed in past breaches. Our #1 password manager pick (seeCyberguy.com/Passwords) includes a built-in breach scanner that checks whether your email address or passwords have appeared in known leaks. If you discover a match, immediately change any reused passwords and secure those accounts with new, unique credentials.Check out the best expert-reviewed password managers of 2025 atCyberguy.com/PasswordsWHAT TO DO IF YOU GET A PASSWORD RESET EMAIL YOU DIDNT ASK FORScammers often use information they find online to craft convincing attacks. If your email address, phone number, or even past passwords are floating around on data broker sites, criminals have more tools to impersonate you or trick you into revealing more.Using a data removal service helps clean up your digital footprint. By reducing the amount of exposed information about you, it becomes much harder for scammers to target you directly. While no service can guarantee the complete removal of your data from the internet, a data removal service is really a smart choice. They arent cheap, and neither is your privacy. These services do all the work for you by actively monitoring and systematically erasing your personal information from hundreds of websites. Its what gives me peace of mind and has proven to be the most effective way to erase your personal data from the internet.By limiting the information available, you reduce the risk of scammers cross-referencing data from breaches with information they might find on the dark web, making it harder for them to target you.Check out my top picks for data removal services and get a free scan to find out if your personal information is already out on the web by visitingCyberguy.com/DeleteGet a free scan to find out if your personal information is already out on the web:Cyberguy.com/FreeScanEven the strongest password can be stolen, buttwo-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra barrier. When enabled, Google will ask for a one-time code or prompt on your phone before granting access. That means even if a scammer manages to get your password, they can't log in without also having your device.Google offers several 2FA methods, from SMS codes to app-based prompts and even hardware security keys. For the best protection, choose app-based or hardware verification rather than text messages. Many scams rely on exploiting outdated software. If your phone, browser, or operating system isn't up to date, attackers may use known vulnerabilities to install malware or hijack your session.Set your devices toupdate automatically whenever possible. This ensures you're always running the latest security patches, reducing the number of openings a scammer can use.Google provides built-in tools to help users spot suspicious activity. By visiting your Google Account's security page, you can see devices that have signed in, recent account activity, and whether recovery options like your phone number and backup email are up to date.Running a Google Security Checkup only takes a few minutes and gives you a clear overview of any weaknesses. Think of it as a health check for your digital life. The incident is a reminder that even tech giants with vast resources are not immune to security lapses. While Google insists that no passwords were exposed, the wave of phishing and vishing scams shows how quickly criminals can weaponize even partial leaks. What began as a breach of business data has spiraled into a threat facing millions of everyday users, raising questions about how secure Google's ecosystem really is.Do you believe regulators should step in with stricter rules for how cloud providers handle security lapses? Elderly women rescued from hot tub at remote Kentucky cabin
A girls trip to a remote cabin in Kentucky nearly ended in tragedy when two women in their 80s took a soak in a hot tub and could not get themselves out of the heated water, rescuers said on Friday. The group was enjoying a dip in the hot tub at a cabin in the Red River Gorge area in southeastern Kentucky earlier this month when two of the elderly women "were unable to get out of the tub because of pre-existing issues," the Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team (WSCART) said in a post on its website.Rescuers said the two women became unresponsive in the heated water after developing hyperthermia, a condition in which the body is overheated and cannot cool down.A third woman got into the hot tub to keep their heads above the swirling water, while a fourth woman called 911 for help, according to the rescue team.HIKER DIES ON ICONIC ARIZONA PARK TRAIL DURING EXTREME SUMMER HEATCaretakers at the cabin had pulled the two women out of the hot tub when WSCART and the Wolfe County Sheriffs Office arrived. One woman was partially responsive while the other was completely unresponsive and in critical condition. The unresponsive woman was taken to a shower, where the team applied cold water and ice. The partially responsive woman was moved outside where rescuers cooled her down using a hose and ice.GEORGIA POLICE OFFICERS BREAK INTO CAR PARKED OUTSIDE MALL WITH TWO CHILDREN SWELTERING INSIDE: VIDEOBoth women began to show signs of recovery after 20 to 30 minutes of cold-water immersion. EMS then transferred the women to a local hospital. No details were immediately provided about the women's pre-existing issues.WSCART said the story is a "cautionary and educational moment," warning the public that the recommended time for a hot tub soak is between 15 and 30 minutes."Ensure you are capable of exiting the hot tub once you enter, especially if you have any sort of disability," the rescue team said. "Hyperthermia and Heatstroke can be fatal, and this story could have ended much differently without the quick thinking of all those involved with this rescue."

Trump admin threatens to cut millions in federal funding from 3 states over trucker English language rules
California, Washington and New Mexico may lose millions of dollars in federal funding if they continue to fail to enforce English language requirements for truckers, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced Tuesday.Duffy said the three states have 30 days to comply with federal English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements after an investigation into a deadly crash in Florida earlier this month revealed the states made significant failures regarding the illegal immigrant truck driver who made an illegal U-turn."This is about keeping people safe on the road. Your families, your kids, your spouses, your loved ones, your friends," Duffy said. "We all use the roadway, and we need to make sure that those who are driving big rigs semis can understand the road signs, that theyve been well-trained."Duffy referred to the deadly Aug. 12 crash involving Harjinder Singh, a 28-year-old who officials say hails from India and is in the country illegally.FLORIDA AG ANNOUNCES PROBE OF SANCTUARY JURISDICTIONS THAT GIVE TRUCKING LICENSES TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTSSingh was operating a commercial semi-truck with a trailer on theFlorida Turnpikein Fort Pierce when he allegedly attempted a U-turn in an unauthorized area before the trailer jackknifed and collided with a minivan, killing all three of its passengers, according to officials.Singh was given a CDL test following the crash and failed, according to Duffy.Duffy said Singh got his CDL license in California and Washington state before getting pulled over for speeding in New Mexico in July. Duffy said Singhs rig was not taken out of service even though he could not speak English.Duffy said the ELP rule went into effect in June, making it so that truck drivers who were not proficient in speaking English would be taken out of service. He added that California, Washington and New Mexico have hardly enforced the rule.BLUE STATE INVESTIGATES HOW ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT TRUCKER GOT LICENSE BEFORE DEADLY FLORIDA CRASHJesse Elison, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration chief counsel, said all three of these states will have 30 days to respond and present a corrective plan or else lose funding.California could lose $33 million, while Washington and New Mexico could lose $10.5 million and $7 million, respectively, Elison and Duffy said.Further steps could be taken should these states fail to comply, according to Duffy, though he declined to elaborate on the specifics."We don't want to take away money from states, but we will take money away and we'll take additional steps that get progressively more difficult for these states," Duffy said. "There's a lot of great tools that we have here that we don't want to use."

Man receives world's first pig lung transplant in groundbreaking medical procedure
A man in China became the first recipient of a pig lung. The genetically modified pig organ was transplanted into the 39-year-old, according to an Aug. 26 report by the journal Nature. The procedure took place last year, performed by researchers at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangshou Medical University in China.GIRL WITH HEART FAILURE CALLS DAD WITH LIFE-CHANGING MESSAGE AFTER 200-DAY HOSPITAL STAYAlthough the man was brain-dead after experiencing a cerebral hemorrhage, the lung survived for nine days. The left lung came from a pig with six genomic edits, created by research firm Chengdu Clonorgan Biotechnology in China.Pig organs have been successfully transplanted into humans in the past, and clinical trials for pig liver and kidney transplants in humans were green-lighted in the U.S. this year.In this first trial, the researchers and doctors aimed to determine how a lung would hold up against the human immune response and the possibility of "hyperacute rejection."In the Nature journal article, the researchers reported the success of this recent transplant, noting no signs of rejection or infection within the 216-hour monitoring period. In the first 24 hours, the team observed lung swelling and tissue damage during the procedure. On days three and six, the team noticed damage caused by antibodies attacking the organ, but this was reduced by day nine.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTERThe study was then ended at the request of the patients family on the ninth day, the report stated."Although this study demonstrates the feasibility of pig-to-human lung xenotransplantation, substantial challenges relating to organ rejection and infection remain," the researchers concluded."Further preclinical studies are necessary before clinical translation of this procedure."Muhammad Mohiuddin, a surgeon and researcher at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, who led the first pigheart transplant into a living person in 2022, told Nature that lungs are the "most difficult organ to transplant," as theyre more prone to being attacked by the immune system. For more Health articles, visitfoxnews.com/healthMohiuddin applauded the researchers effort and called it a "first step" toward lung xenotransplantation, or the use of organs from other species into humans.Fox News Digital reached out to the researchers for comment.

Cracker Barrel anti-woke critics slammed as unintelligent by Boston Globe food critic
A Boston Globe food critic defended Cracker Barrels controversial rebrand in a new piece, mocking detractors as having "biscuits for brains.""It would be nice if every single small thing did not now have to become a pawn in a ginned-up culture war," Devra First wrote Tuesday. "However, the Tennessee-based restaurant chain Cracker Barrel has rebranded, and according to some people with biscuits for brains, its new logo is woke. There is so much to be outraged about. This isnt it."Cracker Barrel has faced backlash since unveiling a text-only logo on Aug. 18 that removed its longtime "Uncle Herschel" character. The chain has also come under fire for remodeling its restaurants, swapping its nostalgic country-kitsch decor for a brighter, contemporary look.At the same time, the companys diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs have drawn criticism from conservative activist Robby Starbuck, who has targeted similar policies at other major brands.CRACKER BARREL DISMISSES CRITICS AS 'VOCAL MINORITY' WHILE RIVAL RESTAURANT ADDS TO BACKLASH"This was a refresh for a restaurant founded in 1969," First scoffed. "People reacted as if a historic landmark were being defaced."She noted that the rebrand was aimed at attracting new customers, after CEO Julie Felss Masino said last year the company needed to stay "relevant."First also pushed back on Starbucks claim that the redesign is part of a broader effort to abandon Cracker Barrels traditional customer base. The company previously faced some right-wing criticism for celebrating Pride Month by painting its iconic rocking chairs in rainbow colors."It was very much about a logo, until the involvement of those who would define American pride so narrowly," First argued. She recalled a recent lunch at Cracker Barrel where she saw a diverse mix of customers across ages, races, and backgrounds.CONSERVATIVE ACTIVIST SLAMS CRACKER BARREL; COMPANY LEFT REELING AFTER LOGO REDESIGN"Lunch at Cracker Barrel showed me why they care," she wrote about the company's critics."We were all equally welcome. It doesnt matter whats on the sign. Theres a seat for everyone at the table, and thats not going to change."Starbuck fired back, telling Fox News Digital, "The fact that some braindead legacy media puppets still want to pretend this is just about a logo is hilarious."DAVID MARCUS: CRACKER BARREL ABANDONS CUSTOMERS, TRADING AUTHENTICITY FOR CORPORATE SLOP"People now understand this goes much deeper with Cracker Barrel funding all-ages Pride events and doing woke pronoun training at their corporate office. We wont fund values that are contrary to our deepest held beliefs. Since they didnt learn from Bud Light, we intend to teach Cracker Barrel a lesson about who their customers are."Cracker Barrel has stood by its recent moves, noting that 87% of respondents in company research either loved or liked the new logo."Our values havent changed, and the heart and soul of Cracker Barrel havent changed," a spokesperson previously told Fox News Digital."And Uncle Herschel remains front and center in our restaurants and on our menu. He is the face of The Herschel Way, the foundation of how our 70,000-plus employees provide the country hospitality for which we are known," the spokesperson added.Fox News David Spector contributed to this report.

'It's a trap': Trump mocks Chuck Schumer, Dems for stepping on political landmines
President Donald Trump mocked Democrats for holding to positions he says are deeply unpopular on Monday, calling out Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in particular.Trump made the comments during a televised meeting with his cabinet members, touting voter registration numbers that were heavily in favor of Republicans."The Republican Party has picked up four million new people. Four million. The Democrats have lost two-and-a-half million. Other than that, they're extremely happy," he joked. "No, they're very depressed."Trump went on to say that crime is the "new box that they've fallen into," referencing a television analyst who warned Democrats not to fight Trump on the issue.AMID PLUNGING POLLS, ANEMIC FUNDRAISING, DEMOCRATS LOOK TO REBOUND AT PARTY'S SUMMER MEETING"He's a Democrat consultant and he was screaming, No, no, no! Dont let him do this to you! It's a trap! It's another trap!'" Trump quoted."What he's talking about is like men playing in women's sports. They said that's an 80-20 issue no, it's a 97-3," Trump said. "I saw a politician today, that you all know very well, fighting like hell for men playing in women's sports.""I agree they're human beings, but you can't have a seven-foot man playing basketball with the women. You know, just one of those little problems in life," he continued. The president then went on to predict that "poor, stupid Chuck Schumer" will continue fighting him on both the transgender issue and on crime."This is the best of all. They're gonna fight me," Trump said.DNC CHAIR TELLS FOX NEWS PARTY HAS HIT ROCK BOTTOMTrump's comments come as the Democratic Party is trying to escape the political wilderness after last year's elections, when Democrats lost control of the White House and the Senate, and fell short in their bid to win back the House majority. Republicans, meanwhile, made gains with voters who make up key parts of the Democratic Party's base. The Democratic National Committee also faces a massive fundraising deficit at the hands of the rival Republican National Committee, fueled in part by major party donors cutting back their contributions as they express their frustrations with the national party committee.Fox News' Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report

White House accuses Pritzker, Illinois Dems of whining while Chicago crime rages
The White House fired back at the barrage of criticism from Illinois Democrats over President Donald Trump's threat to send U.S. troops to Chicago."If these Democrats spent half as much time addressing crime in their cities as they did going on cable news to complain about President Trump, their residents would be a lot safer," White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told Fox News Digital.During a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Trump himself confirmed that he's "willing to go to Chicago, which is in big trouble," adding that Gov. JB Pritzker, D-Ill., considered a likely 2028 presidential hopeful, "refuses to admit that he has problems huge problems."Pritzker and his fellow Illinois Democrats Sens. Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Attorney General Kwame Raoul railed against Trump as a "wannabe dictator" on Monday as the White House weighs deploying the U.S. National Guard to Chicago.PRITZKER RAILS AGAINST 'UN-AMERICAN' POSSIBLE NATIONAL GUARD DEPLOYMENT BY TRUMP"Donald Trump wants to use the military to occupy a U.S. city, punish its dissidents and score political points. If this were happening in any other country, we would have no trouble calling it what it is a dangerous power grab," Pritzker said.TRUMP'S WEEK SHAPED BY CRIME AGENDA, POTENTIAL GUARD DEPLOYMENT TO CHICAGOPritzker called the potential move "exactly the type of overreach that our country's founders warned against.""What President Trump is doing is unprecedented and unwarranted. It is illegal. It is unconstitutional. It is un-American," he added. When reached for comment regarding Pritzker's criticism, the White House shared a fact sheet on Chicago crime, which includes local reporting that indicates, for the past 13 years, Chicago has had the most murders of any U.S. city.It also includes FOX 32's report that more illegal guns are recovered in Chicago than in Los Angeles or New York City combined. The City of Chicago is pushing back with its own fact sheet, arguing Johnson's primary focus has been "driving down violent crime in Chicago" during his first two years as mayor."In the first six months of this year, Chicago has seen a 33% reduction in homicides and a 38% reduction in shootings," the mayor's office said, citing year-to-date crime statistics.Johnson also highlighted a "citywide homicide clearance rate of 77.4%," which his office said is "the highest in more than a decade," as the mayor emphasizes mental health and a "holistic approach to community safety.""It's very safe right now," Trump said of Washington, D.C., during his Cabinet meeting on Tuesday. For nearly two weeks, Trump has carried out a crackdown on crime in Washington, mobilizing more than 2,200 National Guard troops to patrol the streets of the nation's capital."It's going to get so good that this will be the safest capital there is. It'll be one of the safest places in our nation anywhere," Trump told his Cabinet, adding that "12 days ago, it was the most unsafe place in our nation."Trump has floated deploying troops to other U.S. cities as well, including Baltimore, Md., where he was met with criticism by another potential 2028 presidential contender, Democratic Gov. Wes Moore.
