Lawsuit over Minnesota trans pitcher heats up with first court hearing
A lawsuit filed by three Minnesota softball players against the state for allowing a biological male pitcher to compete saw its first court hearing on Wednesday.U.S. District Judge Eric Tostrud heard oral arguments by attorneys representing the three players in a request for a preliminary injunction that would block transgender athletes from competing in girls sports in the state. One of the attorneys representing the three girls told Fox News Digital that they are arguing that current Minnesota policies violate Title IX."It fundamentally denies women equal athletic opportunities in sports that require competitive skills or contact sports, to allow males into those spaces to play against them," said Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Hal Frampton.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThe plaintiffs hope the suit will result in a permanent change to the state's sports bylaws."We're seeking a ruling that the bylaws of the Minnesota state high school league to prevent any male who asserts a female gender identity to pay women's sports, we're seeking a ruling that those bylaws fundamentally violate Title IX," Frampton said. The lawsuit names three school districts, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, Minnesota State High School League executive director Erich Martens, commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Education Willie Jett, and commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Human Rights Rebecca Lucero as defendants. One of the anonymous softball players involved in the lawsuit previously told Fox News Digital what it was like facing the trans athlete, who led Champlin Park High School to the state championship this season.HOW TRANSGENDERISM IN SPORTS SHIFTED THE 2024 ELECTION AND IGNITED A NATIONAL COUNTERCULTURE"Hitting against him is not only a physical challenge but a mental, too. Its a mental battle knowing that he has an advantage in the sport that I grew up playing, making it hard to even want to hit against him. His ability to get outs and spin the ball is a strong advantage, but like I said its also incredibly mentally challenging knowing that youre competing against someone who has unfair advantages leaving you with little to no confidence," the player said."This issue has affected me in ways that I never imagined. Its simply unfair and I hate that nothing is happening to change that. Boys should not be able to take girls spots on teams just because they are capable of doing so. I hope that more girls affected by this issue will stand up against this."The anonymous player also called out Ellison for aggressively defending trans inclusion in girls sports in the state. Ellison has filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump and the U.S. Department of Justice over Trump's "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports" executive order."Its really upsetting to know that [Ellison] isnt taking rights of girls and women seriously. He is allowing boys to compete with girls, and it is not safe and completely unfair. To know that AG Ellison is in complete support of letting boys and men take advantage of females in sports is absolutely disgusting and wrong," the player added.Minnesota's state legislature failed to pass the "Preserving Girls Sports Act" in early March, which would have stated that "only female students may participate in an elementary or secondary school level athletic team or sport that an educational institution has restricted to women and girls."Now, this lawsuit will seek to achieve the same purpose as that bill.Follow Fox News Digitals sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Texas Dem abruptly leaves call with Newsom, other party members after being told shes committing felony
Texas Democratic state Rep. Nicole Collier abruptly left a call with California Gov. Gavin Newsom and other Democratic Party members after claiming she was told she was committing a felony by participating in the meeting from a state Capitol bathroom.Collier was speaking on a call with Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin, Newsom and several others while the Texas House of Representatives was simultaneously debating a redistricting bill backed by President Donald Trump. While speaking on the call, Collier claimed that the Texas redistricting bill violates the Voting Rights Act and "will prevent black and brown individuals from selecting the candidates of their choice because theyre cracking and packing these districts."While Martin was speaking about 30 minutes into the call, Collier suddenly interrupted, saying, "Sorry, I have to leave. They said it's a felony for me to do this."ABBOTT SCORES BIG WIN IN REDISTRICTING BATTLE AS TEXAS DEMOCRATS' BLOCKADE COLLAPSES"Apparently I cant be on the floor or in the bathroom," she continued, before turning to address someone off camera."You told me I was only allowed to be here in the bathroom," she told the person off camera before turning back to the call and saying, "No, hang on. Bye everybody. Ive got to go."Both Newsom and Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., immediately expressed outrage over Colliers sudden departure."That is outrageous," said Booker. "What we just witnessed, them trying to shut her down and saying it's illegal for her to be in the bathroom and on this call, this is the lengths that theyre going to in Texas."This comes after dozens of Democratic members of the Texas House fled the state and refused to return to the legislature for two weeks to hold up the redistricting bill by breaking quorum. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and other state leaders ordered the rogue Democrats to be arrested and threatened to have them removed from office if they did not return to fulfill their duties. After the Democrats return to the legislature, members faced heightened security measures designed to ensure a quorum was maintained.Democratic lawmakers said Texas Department of Public Safety officers followed them around Monday at the state Capitol and either guarded their offices or stayed in them and tailed them when they left. They said they had to sign "permission slips" and accept the surveillance to leave the building.TIRED OF DEMOCRACY DYING: NEWSOM REDISTRICTING PUSH FACES GOP BACKLASH OVER VOTER RIGHTSRather than comply with the measures, Collier stayed on the House floor in theTexas Capitol on Monday night and Tuesday.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPDespite the Democrats' standoff, the Texas House finally approved maps Wednesday.Newsom announced he would advance a redistricting map in California to counter the Texas redistricting bill. Obama calls Newsom's California redistricting move a 'responsible approach' to GOP tactics
Former President Barack Obama on Wednesday said he respects California Gov. Gavin Newsom's push for a redistricting plan to add more Democratic seats in the blue state."I believe that Gov. Newsoms approach is a responsible approach. He said this is going to be responsible. Were not going to try to completely maximize it," Obama said at a fundraiser Tuesday on Marthas Vineyard in Massachusetts, according to excerpts obtained by The Associated Press."Were only going to do it if and when Texas and/or other Republican states begin to pull these maneuvers. Otherwise, this doesnt go into effect," he added.OBAMA PRAISES DEMOCRATS WHO FLED TEXAS REDISTRICTING VOTE AS INSPIRINGIn a post Wednesday on X, Obama said gerrymandering shouldn't be a part of politics. Instead, it should be a "fair fight" between Republicans and Democrats based on the competition of ideas.Changes in Texas and California's House seats could shift control of Congress in 2026. Some analysts say Democrats could pick up as many as five additional seats in California if Newsoms plan succeeds, potentially canceling out Republican gains in Texas. The plan by Newsom is intended to counter a move by Texas over congressional redistricting ahead of next year's midterm elections. In Austin, the GOP-dominated state House of Representatives last week resumed meeting at a second straight special session called by conservative Republican Gov. Greg Abbott. But Republicans in the Texas House were prevented from holding votes on a new map for two weeks when dozens of Democratic state representatives fled the state to deny the GOP a quorum in the Texas House.NEWSOM UNVEILING CALIFORNIA REDISTRICTING EFFORT TO COUNTER TRUMP-BACKED PUSH IN TEXAS"Since Texas is taking direction from a partisan White House and gerrymandering in the middle of a decade to try and maintain the House despite their unpopular policies, I have tremendous respect for how Governor Newsom has approached this," Obama wrote on X.The former commander in chief said Newsom put forward a "smart, measured approach" designed to address "a very particular problem at a very particular moment in time."Newsom is moving to hold a special election this year to get voter approval to undo the constitutional amendments that created the nonpartisan redistricting commission, Fox News Digital previously reported.California Republican lawmakers have vowed to fight it.Fox News Digital's Paul Steinhauser and Jasmine Baehr and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Vance tells Musk to stay 'loyal' to Trump's Republican Party amid third party speculation
Vice President JD Vance cautionedElon Musk against forming a third political party in an exclusive interview on "The Ingraham Angle," saying the billionaire could wield more influence by staying "loyal" to the Republican Party and President Donald Trumps MAGA movement."My advice to Elon would be to try to fix the Republican Party. Try to push it in your own way. Disagree with me all you want, disagree with the president of the United States, but don't pretend that you can make a big difference with a third party," Vance said Wednesday."I think Elon would make a much bigger difference if he stayed loyal to President Trump's Republican Party, and if he had disagreements, express those disagreements from the inside as opposed from the outside."ELON MUSK CONNECTS WITH INDIE ANDREW YANG ON BILLIONAIRE FORMER TRUMP ALLY'S THIRD PARTY PUSHThe former Ohio senators comments came after The Wall Street Journalreported Musk is pausing plans to start the America Party to focus on his companies.Fox News parent Fox Corp. and The Wall Street Journal parent News Corp share common ownership.Musk announced in a post on his social mediaplatform X, formerly Twitter, in July that the America Party would be formed to give people their "freedom" back, amid criticism about the two-party system."When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy," he wrote. The former special government employee who served in an advisory role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) publicly split with Trump earlier in2025 over his support for Trump's "big, beautiful bill." Musk argued the bill would add trillions to an already ballooning U.S. national debt and could undermine DOGEs work of cutting government spending.Musks allies, according to the WSJ, said the SpaceX CEO hasnt officially ruled out creating the new party and could change his mind.TRUMP DISMISSES MUSK'S POLITICAL AMBITIONS AS 'RIDICULOUS' IN SHARP REBUKE"I do think that it would be a huge mistake for Elon to go forward with a third party, and my argument to him is whether you like it or not, you are now perceived by the far-Left as on the side of the American Right," Vance told Fox News host Laura Ingraham."You believe in law and order, you believe in closed borders, you believe in economic growth and prosperity, you believe in making things in the United States of America. The idea that Elon is ever going to go back to being sort of in the middle, where Democrats and Republicans both like him, that's just not going to happen. He is perceived as being on the American Right."The vice president also denied talking to Musk or other donors about a potential 2028 presidential run amid reports that the worlds richest man could financially back Vance.Reuters reported thatMusks America PAC spent nearly $300 million during the 2024 election in favor of Trump and other Republican candidates.

Spencer Pratt enlists Sen. Rick Scott for federal investigation into California wildfire response
Spencer Pratt has enlisted U.S. Senator Rick Scott in his battle with California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass over their handling of the devastating California wildfires. On Wednesday, the 42-year-old former reality star, who lost the home that he shared with his wife Heidi Montag in the Palisades Fire last January, shared a video on Instagram in which he appeared alongside the Florida politician. In the clip, Pratt revealed that he had asked Scott to help him push for a federal investigation into the fires."Since Gavin Newsom hasn't given us our Palisades investigation, Karen Bass just yesterday said she's delaying hers. The victims aren't they're not OK with that. So we got Senator Rick Scott, flew in from Florida, and I let him know that the victims out in the Palisades are demanding a congressional investigation," Pratt said, which appeared to be filmed in the Pacific Palisades."And Senator Rick Scott said" Pratt continued as he pivoted the camera to Scott.SPENCER PRATT AND HEIDI MONTAG SUE THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES, LADWP AFTER PALISADES FIRE"I'm gonna do my best to make sure it happens," Scott said."So stay tuned, I'll obviously keep you posted," Pratt told his fans. "We are gonna get to the bottom of how our town burned down and how 12 senior citizens were killed. So stay tuned."Fox News Digital has reached out to representatives for Newsom and Bass for comment.APP USERS CLICK HERE TO VIEW POSTThe Palisades Fire, which ignited in the afternoon on Jan. 7 in the Santa Monica Mountains, resulted in 12 confirmed deaths. The fire burned over 23,000 acres and destroyed more than 6,000 structures before it was fully contained on Jan. 31.Later on Jan. 7, the Eaton Fire began in the San Gabriel Mountains and greatly impacted the city of Altadena. The fire killed at least 19 people and destroyed more than 9,000 structures. The Eaton Fire burned over 14,000 until it was also fully contained on Jan. 31.Since the fires, Pratt, whose parents also lost their home, has led a social media crusade against Newsom and Bass, whom he has accused of mismanagement, corruption and "criminal negligence" in their response to the disaster. In January, Pratt and Montag sued the city of Los Angeles and the Department of Water and Power over the destruction of their home. According to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital, the reality stars alleged "inverse condemnation," a legal concept that allows property owners to seek compensation when the government damages property."The Hills" alums filed the suit with 20 other property owners on Jan. 21, blaming the City of Los Angeles and the utility company for causing damage to their homes.LIKE WHAT YOURE READING? During his trip, Pratt advocated for a federal investigation into Newsom and Bass's actions."Im literally their worst nightmare because I have nothing to lose, and all Im ever gonna do is just post actual facts," Pratt told Variety in August. He continued, "The more of these meetings I take, the more I find out about how preventable this was. Its actually criminal negligence because in the Palisades fire alone, 12 people died. These people shouldnt have died."While speaking with Varity, Pratt confirmed that he did not have a meeting with President Donald Trump during his trip to the nation's capital and explained that his cause was nonpartisan."The victims are across all the party lines, mainly Democrats, and they have been sending me a list of questions and requests to [present] to this administration," Pratt said. "They do not care whos sitting in the White House. They just want answers. They want results.""They want things solved," he added. "Like I would have flown to Washington if an alien from Mars was sitting in the White House. I dont care. Im here to activate."Pratt also praised Bondi, whom he said had been "incredible" in her dedication to investigating the origin and response to the fires."Ive felt so powerless against Bass, LADWP, Newsom, and Im just throwing these TikToks out at such a powerful entity," he said. "To be able to be in a room with people who can get me information legally, thats gonna help everyone in the Palisades get the answers that we havent had for seven months, like the investigation into the origins of the Palisades fire.""So, to be in front of somebody who can provide answers to the victims who have been literally thinking about this all day long for over seven months, that was life changing," he continued. "Like I went through a portal on that one."CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTERDays after the fire, Pratt asked fans of himself and Montag for their help. In an effort to support the couple, fans catapulted Montag's debut album "Superficial," released in 2010, to the top of the iTunes charts, where it secured the No. 1 spot for both song and album."Everything I ever bought in my life burned down. Everything my parents ever bought in their life burned down. Like the stakes are so real," Pratt said."Im doing this because they destroyed my life," he continued. "And for the last seven months, I focused on all the good things with Heidis music and the positives, but once that wore off, its like, I cant ever have my life back. And when you really see everything laid out and the whole way theyve spun it, it was just the biggest bunch of lies. Propaganda. This was the most preventable thing that could ever have been.""Im becoming worse of a nightmare for them every day because now people are finding my number other people whose lives burned down and they send text messages that are like rocket fuel to me," Pratt added."Ill start getting emotionally drained and its a lot to manage my anger and hurt and then its like, Buckle up. Theres so many people that need you to keep on this. This isnt a three-week thing. This is gonna be 10 years."
