WWW.FOXNEWS.COMLetitia James' lawyer blasts Ed Martin's 'bizarre' 'stunt' at New York AG's houseA lawyer for New York Attorney General Letitia James wrote a scathing letter this week to Department of Justice official Ed Martin, excoriating him for visiting James' house and for suggesting she resign from her position.Abbe Lowell, a prominent white-collar lawyer representing James, told Martin in a letter obtained by Fox News that Martin's stop by the attorney general's residence in Brooklyn last week was a "truly bizarre, made-for-media stunt.""This orchestrated photo opportunity for your go-to media outlet, during an investigation, with the intent and/or result to prejudice Ms. James is outside the bounds of DOJ and ethics rules," Lowell wrote.Martins visit was documented by the New York Post on Friday. He later told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo he wanted to "lay eyes on it" and "see the property." Martin shared a photo on Wednesday on X of the visit.HOW TRUMP'S 'NO SHRINKING VIOLETS' DOJ IS DIGGING IN ON SCHIFF'S MORTGAGE DEALINGS AS LEGAL PERIL LOOMSLowell's letter comes after the DOJ initiated two grand jury investigations into James, one in the Northern District of New York related to her civil fraud lawsuit against President Donald Trump and one related to mortgage fraud allegations in Virginia, where James helped her niece purchase a home in 2023.Martin, who is serving as Pardon Attorney for the DOJ and leading a "weaponization" task force, was given special prosecutorial privileges to carry out the mortgage fraud probe into James as well as one into Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., in Maryland. Both James and Schiff have denied wrongdoing and blasted the investigations as political retribution.Lowell echoed that sentiment in his letter this week and noted that Martin made the unusual move of calling for James to resign amid his federal investigation into her.DOJ OPENS GRAND JURY INVESTIGATION INTO LETITIA JAMES TIED TO TRUMP CIVIL CASE"Just four days into your role, no search for facts or questions of law; instead, you twice called for Ms. James to resign," Lowell wrote. "DOJ has firm policies against using investigations and against using prosecutorial power for achieving political ends. This is ever more the case when that demand is made to seek political revenge against a public official in the opposite party of the Administration. Let me be clear: that will not happen here."Martin called for James to step down in a letter to Lowell earlier this month, which Lowell said violated codes of conduct and court precedents."At this time, Letitia James would best serve the good of the state and nation by resigning from office to address the issues in the referral. I would take that as an act of good faith," Martin wrote.Martin described his letter as "confidential" and shared a social media post featuring it on his X account.Martin said a media leak of a letter Lowell wrote in April was "professionally unacceptable and personally insulting.""To that end, I specifically ask that you redouble your efforts to not leak this confidential letter," Martin said. "I prefer not to have to move in court to stop you or your client from leaking."A DOJ spokesperson and a representative for Lowell did not respond to a request for comment for this story.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 4 Visualizações 0 Anterior

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMNewsom-style redistricting efforts critiqued by California Democrats as recently as July, statements showAs California Democrats appear poised to put Gov. Gavin Newsoms mid-census redistricting efforts on the ballot in November, some of their recent statements appeared to belie support for such a scheme.Golden State Republicans, outnumbered 90-29 overall in Sacramento, hit back Tuesday with a list of recent statements Democrats made suggesting they could not see supporting any such plans with some commenting as recently as July."Democratic legislators have also been crystal clear about their support for independent redistricting as recently as July," Senate GOP lawmakers said in a statement obtained by Fox News Digital."But in just a few weeks, a mysterious case of collective (and selective) amnesia seems to have set in. Lets rewind the tape and hear them in their own words."POTENTIAL PELOSI SUCCESSOR RE-UPS BILL TO BAN ICE FROM OBSCURING IDENTITIES: SHUT THIS MASK ST DOWNDuring a state Senate Elections Committee hearing, Sen. Benjamin Allen, D-Santa Monica, spoke about the importance of redistricting commissions versus "incumbents draw[ing] their own lines.""I know there are some downsides. Of course, the devil's in the details as to how these are established ... I'm sensitive to the legislature just coming in big footing and trying to impose a particular model on a community," Allen said in July."Politicians shouldnt be drawing their own lines," he also said in 2023.Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria of Merced, who also spoke at the meeting on a county redistricting commission proposal in her district, said voters wanted a "more transparent process" that gives them a "seat at the table.""I think that the State Redistricting Commission has been a good model in demonstrating that a process can work.""Since the establishment of the California Statewide Citizens Redistricting Commission in 2008 by Proposition 11, California has taken numerous steps to put the responsibility for drawing California's electoral districts in the hands of its citizens at every level of government. What has previously been a closed-door process in many parts of the state has been opened up to interested citizens," Soria also said in her July 16 remarks.CALIFORNIA REPUBLICANS ACCUSE NEWSOM OF 'SINISTER REDISTRICTING SCHEME' AFTER TRUMP MOCKERYSpeaking in 2023 during committee consideration of an ultimately-vetoed bill to create a format for county redistricting commissions, state Sen. Scott Wiener said "everyone should have to have an independent redistricting commission.""I agree that the commissioners should not be appointed by elected officials, which affects my city," said the San Francisco lawmaker who recently filed to run for Rep. Nancy Pelosis seat when she vacates it.Across the Bay, state Sen. Jesse Arreguin of Berkeley commented in July that taking redistricting "out of the hands of an elected body empowers residents to help draw lines and make the process more impartial.""Elected officials inherently have an interest in drawing boundaries to effectuate their interests, whether intentional or not," Arreguin said during a July hearing regarding the aforementioned legislation to create a redistricting commission for Merced County.Assemb. Avelino Valencia, D-Culver City, added in 2023 that "independent citizen redistricting commissions help with fairness in the redistricting process and prevent the manipulation of district boundaries for political gain by elected officials.Valencia said the commission increases transparency and prioritizes local input.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPCalifornia Republicans cited at least six other Democrats who had previously sung the praises of independent commissions.Newsoms effort, which he announced at a press conference following an all-caps social media dig at President Donald Trump, would redistrict new maps without the Citizens Redistricting Commissions input for every election through the 2030 census if voters so approve in November.State Sen. Roger Niello, R-Rancho Contreras, said he at least stalled the process somewhat on Monday by indicating in a letter to the Senates secretary that he would withhold approval of unanimous consent requests for Tuesdays legislative session."The majority party drafted new congressional districts behind closed doors with D.C.-based political operatives to undermine the work of Californias citizen-led commission in charge of redistricting," Niello said in a statement."Politicians shouldnt choose their voters."Additionally, Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton, a former Fox News host, is launching "legal war" against the redistricting plan.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 10 Visualizações 0 Anterior

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMChris Matthews tells Dems to abandon 'all this other crap' on open borders and trans issues, focus on economyFormer MSNBC host Chris Matthews criticized the Democratic Party on Wednesday and said it needed to focus on the economy rather than issues like attacking the Trump administration's immigration policies and defending transgender athletes competing in womens sports. While discussing the Democratic Party's low popularity on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Matthews pointed in part to the Biden administration's poor handling of illegal immigration as a reason, saying, "The polling will tell you, the open border what seemed like an open border for four years.""Today, the border has been closed since January and not a peep out of any Hispanic leader. Nobody has complained because they know that surge at the border was killing the Democrats," he added.DEMOCRATIC REP CALLS ON PARTY TO TOLERATE DISSENTING IDEAS ON CONTROVERSIAL ISSUESIdentifying another possible factor in Democrats' sinking approval, Matthews cited how transgender policies impacted the 2024 presidential election: "On the issue of trans people playing womens sports, that ad ran in every sports event, starting with the World Series. It never stopped. It showed up around the third quarter and everybody's like, whats that? Thats insane."The ad in question from President Donald Trump's campaign featured a narrator telling voters: "Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you."Matthews said issues such as trans people participating in sports were 80/20 issues and added that the party couldnt make it a lead issue, before arguing that Democrats' focus should be on the economy."Theyve got to pick three hard economic issues: interest rates, inflation, tariffs. And they got to say thats what were running on. Not all this other crap," the former MSNBC host said."Im going to go after real things and affordability and that's how we're going to win the close election, and it's going to be close, in '26," he said.TRANS DEM REP. MCBRIDE SUGGESTS PARTY WENT TOO FAR WITH TRANSGENDER AGENDA BEFORE PUBLIC WAS READYCo-host Joe Scarborough agreed and suggested the Democratic Party diffuse the issues. He urged acknowledging that the southern border was a problem during the Biden administration while, at the same time, being humane in dealing with immigration."Then you go to the trans issue. The Democrats just didnt want to talk about, despite the fact that 85% of Americans did not want men who transitioned after puberty competing against young women, young girls, right? So, of course, we understand why 85% of people are against that. And no, we dont think thats fair. Were for fairness, but were also for compassion. Lets figure out what we can do here thats fair to young women, fair to young girls,'" the MSNBC host said.Scarborough also emphasized focusing on affordability. CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTUREMatthews also called out the Democratic Party earlier this month over its response to Trump's plan to combat crime in Washington, D.C."I think this is a strength move against the big cities who are in a difficult situation on crime. And the murder rate, you cant keep saying violent crime is down with the murder rates up. To the average person, the murders are about life and death. You dont brag about a rising murder rate. And the Democrats are, I agree with you, Mika, theyre falling into the trap of defending whats indefensible," he said during an August 13 appearance on "Morning Joe."CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPFox News' Jamie Joseph contributed to this report.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 8 Visualizações 0 Anterior
