MLB's Rob Manfred teases realignment with expansion, baseball fans torch idea
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred floated the possibility of breaking up the American and National Leagues and realigning teams based on geography.Manfred appeared on ESPNs broadcast of the Seattle Mariners and New York Mets game, which took place in front of Little League baseball players in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"In my mind, I think if we expand, it provides us with an opportunity to geographically realign. I think we could see a lot of wear and tear on our players in terms of travel," Manfred said. "And I think our postseason format would be more appealing for entities like ESPN because youd be playing up out of the east, out of the west. And that 10 oclock time slot where we sometimes get lost in Anaheim, would be two West Coast teams. That 10 oclock slot thats a problem for us sometimes becomes a real opportunity for our West Coast audience."I think the owners realize that theres demand for Major League Baseball in a lot of great cities. And we have an opportunity to do something good around that."Manfred said that he hoped to have two teams picked out before he retires in 2029. MLB believes that Nashville, Tennessee, and Salt Lake City could be the next expansion cities, according to USA Today.Baseball fans werent exactly thrilled to hear Manfred talk about realignment. The National League was founded in 1876 and the American League was formed in 1901. The historical aspects of the sport is what adds to the beauty of the game.YANKEES BROADCASTER DAVID CONE REVEALS SECRET BEHIND HIS LEGENDARY 'CONEY-ISMS' COMMENTARY STYLEIts unclear how realignment would look. Former MLB general manager Jim Bowden floated an idea back in May 2023.He predicted in an article in The Athletic that MLB could move to an Eastern and Western Conference format "consisting of four geographically-aligned divisions apiece. Four teams per division, 16 teams per conference."The Eastern Conference would consist of the East Division (Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies), North Division (Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Guardians, Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays), Mid-Atlantic Division (Baltimore Orioles, expansion team, Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals) and Southeast Division (Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, expansion and Tampa Bay Rays). The Western Conference would consist of the Midwest Division (Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers and Minnesota Twins), Southwest Division (Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers), Pacific Coast Division (Colorado Rockies, Athletics, Seattle Mariners and San Francisco Giants), West Division (Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres).Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Tariff uncertainty threatens $490B in US manufacturing investment, report warns
FIRST ON FOX: A new report from the Joint Economic Committee Minority warned Monday that fallout from President Donald Trump's trade policy could slash U.S. manufacturing investment by as much as $490 billion by 2029.Such investments that businesses may defer because of trade uncertainty include capital expenditures on new factories, plants, and production facilities, along with research and development and purchases of advanced manufacturing equipment.POWERFUL MANUFACTURING ASSOCIATION PENS REGULATION REBALANCING PLAN FOR TRUMP ADMINThe report, compiled by Democrats, cautions that delaying these kinds of investments not only slows innovation but also risks fewer factory jobs, weaker supply chains, and diminished U.S. competitiveness against global powerhouse rivals like China."Strengthening American manufacturing is critical to the future of our economy and our national security," said Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), ranking member of the Joint Economic Committee. "While President Trump promised that he would expand our manufacturing sector, this report shows that, instead, the chaos and uncertainty created by his tariffs has placed a burden on American manufacturers that could weigh our country down for years to come."The Republican Joint Economic Committee Majority did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.TRUMP CALLS TARIFF WINDFALL 'SO BEAUTIFUL TO SEE' AS CASH SAILS INThe committee drew parallels between U.S. tariff ambiguity and the U.K.s economic experience after Brexit. Its analysis relies on long-term projections of nonresidential fixed investment from the Congressional Budget Office, released in January 2025, and Bank of England research on how prolonged trade policy confusion curbed business investment in the U.K. from 2016 to 2021.Brexit refers to the U.K.s 2016 decision to leave the European Union, then a 28-member political and economic bloc that set common rules on trade, immigration, and regulation."This had long-term consequences for growth: Economists have estimated that, in the years following the Brexit vote, the U.K.s real gross domestic product (GDP) was 4 to 8% lower than it would have otherwise been, primarily due to businesses pulling back on investment amidst high uncertainty," the Joint Economic Committee Minority wrote in the report. The group calculates that a similarly prolonged period of trade instability in the U.S. could reduce manufacturing investment by 13% annually, totaling about $490 billion by 2029.The committee adds that even if trade fears were resolved immediately, the damage already inflicted on the sector would linger. The report noted that the turmoil businesses faced in just one month April could still lower investment by an average of 1% annually through 2029, equal to about $42.2 billion in lost manufacturing spending.Manufacturers are especially vulnerable to policy swings because decisions like building factories or purchasing advanced equipment require years of planning and carry significant costs that are difficult to reverse. Here is the full report from the Joint Economic Committee Minority:

Flashback: What happened the previous time Zelenskyy met with Trump in the Oval Office
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit the White House Monday to meet with President Donald Trump, following the U.S. president's Friday meeting in Anchorage, Alaska, with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The visit marks the first time Zelenskyy has returned to the White House since February, where he sparred openly with Trump and Vice President JD Vance in the Oval Office over engaging in diplomacy with Russia to end the conflict. The encounter prompted Vance to ask the Ukrainian leader if he'd "said thank you once this entire meeting."The tense exchange started after Zelenskyy challenged Vances statements that diplomacy was the right path to end the conflict. Zelenskyy questioned the value of diplomacy, and brought up that Putin has broken other agreements in the past.JD VANCE STEPS INTO THE SPOTLIGHT DEFENDING TRUMP'S FOREIGN POLICY IN OVAL OFFICE DUSTUP WITH ZELENSKYY"What kind of diplomacy, JD, you are speaking about?" Zelenskyy said. "What do you mean?"Vance said, "Im talking about the kind of diplomacy thats going to end the destruction of your country.""Mr. President, with respect, I think it's disrespectful for you to come into the Oval Office to try to litigate this in front of the American media," Vance said. "Right now, you guys are going around and forcing conscripts to the front lines because you have manpower problems. You should be thanking the president for bringing it, to bring it into this country.""Have you ever been to Ukraine, that you say what problems we have?" Zelenskyy said."I've actually watched and seen the stories and I know that what happens is you bring people, you bring them on a propaganda tour," Vance said. "Mr. President, do you disagree that you've had problems bringing people into your military? And do you think that it's respectful to come to the Oval Office of the United States of America and attack the administration that is trying to, trying to prevent the destruction of your country?"TRUMP SAYS ZELENSKYY CAN COME BACK WHEN HE IS READY FOR PEACE AFTER FIERY WHITE HOUSE EXCHANGEThe exchange prompted Trump to temporarily put a pause on peace negotiations, saying that Zelenskyy could return to the White House when he was "ready" for peace. Following his departure from the White House, Zelenskyy then posted a statement on X thanking the U.S., Trump, Congress and the American people for their support for Ukraine.Unlike the meeting in February, Zelenskyy will be joined Monday by other European leaders who have backed Ukraine, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.Meanwhile, Trump said that its up to Zelenskyy whether the war with Russia comes to an end, and stipulated that doing so would require certain land concessions to Russia. He also ruled out NATO membership for Ukraine under a potential peace deal.WHERE ZELENSKYY IS HEADED FOLLOWING TENSE WHITE HOUSE EXCHANGE WITH TRUMP, VANCE"President Zelenskyy of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to, or he can continue to fight," Trump said in a Sunday post on social media. "Remember how it started. No getting back Obama given Crimea (12 years ago, without a shot being fired!), and NO GOING INTO NATO BY UKRAINE. Some things never change!!!"Even so, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff said Sunday that Putin has agreed to permit the U.S. and other European allies to provide bolstered protection for Ukraine, akin to protections offered under NATOs Article 5 mutual defense clause."We were able to win the following concession that the United States could offer Article 5-like protection, which is one of the real reasons why Ukraine wants to be in NATO," Witkoff said in an interview with CNN.
