An American-Asian teenager set out on a journey to do good by raising funds for cancer research until this adventure came to an abrupt halt.The young pilot, Ethan Guo, set out in his small plane to become the youngest person to fly solo across the world.Guo was detained by Chilean authorities in Antarctica, The Associated Press (AP) reported.'CARBON PASSPORTS' WOULD TRACK TRAVEL AND EVEN RESTRICT HOW SOME PEOPLE TAKE VACATIONAuthorities allege the 19-year-old landed his Cessna 182Q plane without authorization and provided "false flight plan data" which launched an investigation.He was authorized to fly only over Punta Arenas, Chile, according to prosecutors, as AP reported, but Guo continued going south.By his own choice, Guo has been staying at aChilean territory military base, since he's been unable to get a flight out due to weather conditions, according to AP.The Chilean territory covers a region in West Antarctica as well as nearby islands, according to The Oxford Science Park.Guo was first charged with handing false information to ground control and landing without authorization until an agreement was reached between his attorneys and Chilean prosecutors, AP noted.AMERICAN OFFICIALS WARN NIGERIAN WOMEN AGAINST BIRTH TOURISM: 'THIS IS NOT PERMITTED'In its 2024 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices, the U.S. State Department examined whether Chile engages in prolonged detention without charges."The constitution prohibited arbitrary arrest and detention and provided for the right of any person to challenge the lawfulness of their arrest or detention in court," the report stated. A new Illinois law mandating annual mental health screenings for students in the third through 12th grades is drawing concern from parents and policy experts, who say the measure, and the way it could be implemented, raises more questions than it answers."What does that [screening] entail?" asked Cata Truss, a Chicago mother, grandmother, and former educator."A child dealing with trauma may show the same signs as one with mental illness, but you dont want to treat or medicate them the same."Though parents will reserve the right to opt their children out of the mental health screenings, the law leaves key details to be determined by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), which has until September 1, 2026, to develop guidance on how screenings will be conducted, how follow-up referrals will work, and how student privacy will be protected.ILLINOIS' POPULATION IS AGING 'FASTER' THAN THE REST OF THE COUNTRY, EDITORIAL WARNSIllinois moms, including Truss, voiced their skepticism while appearing on "Fox & Friends First," citing transparency gaps and their own fears of overreach."We do need an increase in our mental health [services] for our children," said Christine McGovern, also a former public school teacher.But McGovern is concerned the measure could open the door for overreach and the "alienation of parents," which she identified as the "biggest issue" she encountered during her tenure in education.Policy attorney and parent Mailee Smith is concerned that several provisions in the law remain vague, including how parents are supposed to opt their children out of the screenings."Are parents going to be told every year they can opt out? And if you think that your child may be suffering from some sort of mental episode, get your own screening. Go out and allow your child's doctor to be the catalyst for whether or not you make the decision to deal with that, whether it's mental illness or whether it's trauma."Fox News Digital previously reached out to Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker, who signed the measure on July 31, for comment, but did not receive a reply.The broader national debate over mental health screenings also roused concerns from author Abigail Shrier, who recently shared that her middle school-aged son was given a mental health screening at an urgent care center after he went in, complaining of a stomachache.In an article with The Free Press, Shrier said she requested a copy of the survey and photographed it. She proceeded to detail the questions, which asked whether he had wished he were dead or was thinking about killing himself.Shrier questioned whether such screenings plant harmful ideas in childrens heads or bear the potential for false positives.Local reports say Illinois' approach will use a self-assessment tool and that state lawmakers have identified the screenings as a method of detection rather than diagnosis."Tens of thousands of Illinois kids will be encouraged to think of themselves as sick," she claimed.Supporters of the law argue that the goal is to identify anxiety, depression, or trauma before it escalates. A historic summit is set to be held between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.Though specifics on the summit like the time and exact location remain unknown, all eyes will be on the talks as world leaders wait to see what, if anything, can be accomplished in Putins first trip to the U.S. in a decade.Heres what we know:VLADIMIR PUTIN TO RETURN TO US FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A DECADEWhite House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on Tuesday that Trump will travel to Anchorage on Friday morning for what she described as a "listening exercise" with Putin.Trump, who on Monday described the talks as a "feel-out meeting," has made clear that his chief agenda item will be to determine whether a ceasefire in Ukraine is even possible.When pressed by reporters this week as to what he specifically hopes to achieve from the in-person talks with Putin particularly following seemingly positive calls that only resulted in a "frustrated" Trump and continued Russian bombardment in Ukraine the president was light on specifics.Though he told reporters that he thinks he will know whether a ceasefire deal with Putin is even possible within the first "two minutes.""I'm not going to make a deal. It's not up to me to make a deal," he said. "I think a deal should be made for both [Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy]."Id like to see a ceasefire. I'd like to see the best deal that could be made for both parties. "They will not bring anything. These are dead decisions. "Probably your two choices were go to Russia which Trump would never do or invite him here."It also exposes the challenge that you can't solve this without Ukraine and without Europe," he added.But Alaska also has a shared history with the U.S., which Washington purchased from Saint Petersburg then the capital of Russia in 1867.Though this shared past was championed by some in Russia and the U.S., like the Kremlins special economic envoy Kirill Dmitriev, who called it the "perfect stage" for the Putin-Trump talks, others took to social media to suggest it showed the precarious nature of sovereign borders.ZELENSKYY TELLS PUTIN TO 'BE BRAVE' AND FINALLY AGREE TO TRILATERAL MEETING WITH TRUMPZelenskyy does not appear to have been officially invited to the talks, which the White House on Tuesday confirmed are the result of a direct invitation from Putin."The president is agreeing to this meeting at the request of President Putin," Leavittsaid Tuesday. "And the goal of this meeting for the president is to walk away with a better understanding of how we can end this war."Zelenskyy is set to hold talks with the U.S. president ahead of the high-level bilateral meeting on Wednesday alongside other European leaders.Zelenskyy has repeatedly said he is open to meeting with Putin directly to end the war, though Putin has thus far refused.Trump on Monday said his goal is that following his meeting with Putin, the Kremlin chief will sit down with Zelenskyy to begin hashing out terms for a ceasefire whether or not it includes him in direct negotiations."Ultimately, I'm going to put the two of them in a room. I'll be there, or I won't be there," Trump said Monday. "Kellen Moore's proven, I think, over the last few years to be an incredible innovator offensively and build offenses around his quarterbacks. Coaching Dak [Prescott] down in Dallas, coaching Jalen Hurts last year to a Super Bowl championship. So, I mean, he's got quite the track record now, too. So I think all that to be said, you know, I think everyone is excited within the Saints' locker room, just about what they can create offensively. Obviously, you try to get these QBs up to speed, see who's going to be the starter."Still a ton of experience and depth on defense. Probably one of the best offensive lines in football when you really look at it. Man for man, you drafted first round tackles here at the last, what, three years? So, they're building a team the right way. They're building it in the trenches, you know, with the O and D lines. And I think they got a bunch of skill guys, too. [Chris] Olave and [Rasheed] Shaheed can blow the top off. [Alvin] Kamara is one of the most dynamic backs in the league. You're adjusting to a new offense, new speed of the game, just new mode of operation. And so I think for Bo, it'll be a much higher level of comfort this year. I think there's high expectations for the Broncos this year, as there should be. The mother of former WNBA player Sophie Brunner was identified as the victim of a head-on collision involving an illegal immigrant, Illinois officials said on Tuesday.Darcy Connolly-Brunner, 61, and Rolando Ico-Choc, 30, both died when Ico-Choc drove his Nissan Altima crossed the center line on Illinois Route 26 in Stephenson County into Connolly-Brunners Ford Edge on Aug. 9, Stephenson County Sheriff Steve Stovall said at a press conference.Both were killed in the crash.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMStovall said it was believed that Ico-Choc was a Guatemalan national who had lived in Freeport once before and that alcohol may have played a role in the crash, according to WIFR-TV."One of the lives was someone I knew well, Darcy Connolly-Brunner," Stovall added. "Darcy was more than just a member of the community, she was a friend. She was a kind and giving person who cared deeply for her family and friends."Stovall also revealed that Ico-Choc had a criminal past. Records show that he was charged with aggravated DUI with a license suspended or revoked in 2023. Officials said there was no indication that Connolly-Brunner was under the influence.Illinois state Sen. Andrew Chesney, R-Freeport, said Homeland Security officials confirmed with him that Ico-Choc was in the country illegally.
