Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is considering reversing a ban on the "shark attack," the time-honored aggressive practice used by drill sergeants to train U.S. Army recruits in basic training.The practice was usually employed at the beginning of training by having several drill sergeants swarming trainees and yelling in their faces at the top of their lungs."It starts at basic training. It starts at our military academies," Hegseth said Thursday during an appearance on "The Will Cain Show.""We are going back to basics. Drill sergeants will be drill sergeants with knife hands who ensure, who maintain good order and discipline and train up great recruits who will make great formations. Just like we need military officers with that same rigorous discipline and background. Senior leaders believed the practice was outdated but stressed at the time that the Army was not going soft despite the absence of the in-your-face pile-on trainees were subjected to.Supporters of the shark attack said it helps trainees transition from civilian to military life and prepares them for the chaotic environment some will experience on the battlefield."The secretary is very excited to be making basic training great," Defense Department press secretary Kingsley Wilson said Thursday. "Again, I can confirm that he's going to be looking at basic training and making sure that the standards are where they should be."We want our warfighters to be strong, and that starts in basic training, and we want to make sure we really, again, go back to basics. And shark attacks are going to be something that he is looking at reinstating."One Army unit recently reversed a ban on "tossing bays," another traditional practice in which drill sergeants overturn bunks and mattresses, wall lockers, garbage cans and other items in the bays where enlisted trainees sleep, forcing them to clean the area.A July 31 memo by Col. Christopher J.C. Hallows, commander of the 197th Infantry Brigade, which trains infantry soldiers, announced that bay tossing was "strictly prohibited.""Drill sergeants will not toss the bay to include flipping mattresses, knocking over wall lockers, touching and/or damaging Trainee personal items or equipment," the memo states. "Drill sergeants will not use bay tossing for any reason to include methods of corrective action."On Sunday, Hallows issued another memo reversing the ban.On Thursday, Hegseth noted that bay tossing and the shark attack have been part of basic training for decades."It's the basic stuff that anyone who went through any form of basic training for decades understood as a recruit, you were going into a crucible," he said. "You were going to be forged. You were gonna be challenged. Authorities in Florida arrested a Palm Coast woman who allegedly posed as a nurse and provided care to thousands of patients despite lacking the proper credentials.The Flagler County Sheriffs Office (FCSO) confirmed that 29-year-old Autumn Bardisa was taken into custody at her home while dressed in medical scrubs in a statement released on the department's Facebook page.She is accused of presenting herself as a licensed nurse and administering medical care to more than 4,400 people between June 2024 and January 2025.Investigators determined Bardisa never held a valid nursing license during that time. She had been employed at AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway beginning in July 2023, but her contract was terminated in January 2025 due to internal concerns.PENNSYLVANIA WOMAN ALLEGEDLY USED 10 DIFFERENT ALIASES TO POSE AS NURSE ACROSS MULTIPLE FACILITIESThe arrest capped a seven-month probe conducted by state and federal health agencies. This raised flags among coworkers, one of whom checked the status of her license and found that Bardisa only held an expired certified nursing assistant license. The discovery was then brought to the attention of hospital administrators.Further investigation revealed Bardisa had never submitted documentation to confirm her identity. As a result, AdventHealth ended her contract and alerted the sheriffs office, prompting a wider criminal inquiry.The investigation, conducted alongside the Florida Department of Health and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, included interviews with hospital staff and the nurse whose license Bardisa had allegedly used. The Department of Defense plans to build the largest federal migrant detention facility in the U.S. to date, at Fort Bliss in Texas, which is expected to have up to 5,000 beds for illegal aliens.Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson announced the project during a press briefing Thursday, stating that construction began in July."Since then, work has begun for initial detainment capacity of 1,000 illegal aliens with initial operating capacity likely to be achieved by mid to late August," Wilson said. Police have made a second arrest in response to the ongoing incidents of green sex toys being thrown onto courts during WNBA games.The latest alleged culprit, 18-year-old Kaden Lopez of Arizona, was arrested after police say he threw a sex toy into the crowd during Tuesday's WNBA game between the Phoenix Mercury and Connecticut Sun, according to FOX 10.Police say Lopez pulled the sex toy from his sweater pocket at Tuesdays game and threw it toward the seats in front of him, striking a spectator in the back.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"Video footage shows Lopez, sitting in his seat, he retrieves the green [object] from his sweater front pocket then throws the [object] forward. A zoo in Europe is inviting the public to turn unwanted pets into prey, calling for donations of fluffy rabbits and family guinea pigs to be euthanized and fed to its predator residents.The Aalborg Zoo in Denmark announced the program in a Facebook post, sparking public uproar, including the ire of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)."If you have an animal that, for various reasons, needs to be rehomed, you are welcome to donate it to us. The animals are humanely euthanized by trained staff and then used as feed," the zoo wrote in the social media post. A brush fire was quickly moving across parts of Southern California on Thursday, spurring evacuations of the area as fire officials worked to put out the blaze.The Canyon Fire broke out on Thursday afternoon east of Lake Piru in Ventura County, earlier estimated at about 50 acres, before spreading to more than 1,000, according to fire officials.The fire began burning north of Highway 126 east of Los Angeles County before it later spread into the county, officials said.LOS ANGELES MAYOR BASS SAYS 'HELL YEAH' SHE REGRETS GHANA TRIP AFTER WILDFIRES RAVAGED CITYEvacuations were ordered for the Lake Piru Recreation Area and parts of the surrounding area. Several zones are under evacuation order and warning," the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.Water-dropping aircraft responded to the blaze, as firefighters were using Lake Piru, a reservoir in Los Padres National Forest northwest of Los Angeles, to refill firefighting aircraft, NBC 4 reported.The Canyon Fire was one of at least four burning in Southern California on Thursday.It was not clear what caused the fires in the Golden State.This comes after multiple wildfires swept across Southern California at the beginning of the year, burning more than 50,000 acres and destroying more than 18,000 homes and structures.
