Trump is taking decisive action to bring this critical industry back to American soil
After an exhaustive investigation by the Department of Commerce under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act, President Trump is imposing significant tariffs on imported copper. This critical material is as essential now to Americas economic and national security as oil, electricity, and semiconductors.Indeed, in an era defined by artificial intelligence, grid modernization, and advanced computing, copper has become indispensable for technological innovation and defense. Our military systemsfrom aircraft and submarines to advanced weaponryrely heavily on copper, as do essential civilian sectors, including the electrical grid, telecommunications networks, and cutting-edge manufacturing.Despite coppers strategic importance, Americas copper industry continues to be hollowed out by unfair foreign trade practicesincluding state-subsidized overcapacity and below-cost dumping by countries like China, Vietnam, and India to export manipulation and predatory pricing by countries like Chile, Peru, and Mexico. These practices, often violating WTO rules, depress global copper prices and discourage investment in domestic smelting and refining facilities. Combined with burdensome domestic regulations, this has left America dangerously reliant on foreign sources for a metal critical to our defense and economic security.MORNING GLORY: PRESIDENT TRUMP AND THE UNITED STATES MASSIVE TARIFF HAUL IN HIS FIRST SIX MONTHS BACKOnce a global leader in copper mining, refining, and manufacturing, the U.S. now faces a perilous dependence on imports. Our refining capacity alone has declined by 56 percent since the late 1990s, forcing us into the absurd position of exporting raw copper ore and scrap overseas, only to re-import finished products. This isnt merely inefficientits strategically reckless. The trade deficit in copper-intensive downstream products underscores our vulnerability. Between 2010 and 2024, this deficit surged from $4.8 billion to a staggering $19.4 billion, a 302 percent increase. Last year alone, America imported nearly a million metric tons of refined copper to meet basic domestic needs. Every pound of copper imported is a pound we could and should be processing right here at home, creating American jobs and securing our supply chains. This troubling dependence is compounded by global overcapacity in copper refining, predominantly fueled by state-subsidized overproduction abroad. The result? America has become dangerously reliant on foreign sources for a metal integral to our defense and economic security. To address this threat, President Trump, acting decisively under Section 232 authority, has imposed tariffs designed to rebuild and safeguard Americas copper supply chains. Specifically, the President is implementing an immediate 50 percent tariff on imported semi-finished copper products and intensive copper derivative products. Additionally, refined copper imports will face a phased tariffstarting at 15 percent in 2027 and increasing to 30 percent in 2028. These measured steps will provide critical breathing room for U.S. companies to ramp up domestic refining and processing capabilities.Trump Tariff "panicans" will inevitably complain about costs and economic disruption. But lets be clear: these tariffs represent a modest and necessary premium compared to the enormous risks posed by continued dependence on foreign copper. We've learned from prior Section 232 actions on steel and aluminum that tariffs can successfully revitalize critical industries. Those actions attracted billions of dollars in new investment, restored domestic capacity, created thousands of jobs, and secured crucial materials for our military and infrastructure. The tariffs on copper will yield similar results. They will catalyze the revival of domestic refining and smelting capabilities, incentivize investment in new technologies, and put Americans back to work in states across our great land producing the copper we desperately need. The United States holds abundant copper reservesenough to fully meet domestic demand for approximately 40 years. Arizona alone hosts some of the country's largest deposits, including the Morenci mine, one of North America's most productive copper sources.Revitalizing Americas copper industry means revitalizing American communities. From copper mines in Arizona and Montana to smelters and processing plants in Utah, Texas, and Indiana, these tariffs will help create thousands of high-paying, blue-collar jobs. Investments will flow into exploration, refining, and downstream manufacturingboosting local economies and rebuilding the industrial heartland. This is economic nationalism for national securitys sake.CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONIn an era defined by strategic competition and supply chain vulnerabilities, we cannot afford passive reliance on foreign producers who harm our country with their massive exports. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the critical risks of relying on foreign supply chains, underscoring the need to strengthen domestic production capabilities for strategic materials like copper. These new Trump copper tariffs will help reduce America's persistent trade deficit and safeguard our economy against dangerous supply interruptions during geopolitical tensions or future global crises. Domestic production of critical materials like copper is not just sound economics; its imperative to maintain our sovereignty and security.America's copper industryand the American workers who sustain ithave waited far too long for decisive action. By invoking Section 232, President Trump is taking exactly that kind of decisive, bold action to put American security first.President Trumps message is clear: the United States will no longer tolerate economic policies that hollow out our industries and jeopardize national security. With these copper tariffs, we're taking a critical step to protect our economy, rebuild our industry, and ensure our national security.

First on Fox: Republican firebrand Nancy Mace launches bid for South Carolina governor
EXCLUSIVE Rep. Nancy Mace, the South Carolina Republican with a large national profile, on Monday declared her candidacy for Palmetto State governor."I'm running to put South Carolina first," Mace, a three-term House member who represents a coastal congressional district in the state's Lowcountry, said in a statement shared first with Fox News Digital.Mace, as she launched her campaign, argued that "we can continue doing the things weve always done," as she took aim at what she called "weak leadership" in the state."Or we can chart a new course one filled with common sense and bold policies to hold the line for South Carolina," she emphasized.HOUSE FREEDOM CAUCUS MEMBER RALPH NORMAN JUMPS INTO SOUTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR'S RACEAnd Mace went up on a newly launched campaign website with a 10-point agenda that she called "a clear, conservative, common sense roadmap to rebuild South Carolina from the ground up:"Mace followed her announcement with a campaign policy event Monday morning in Charleston at the Citadel, which is South Carolina's public military college and her alma mater."This morning I'm making it official," she told supporters. "I'm running for governor because South Carolina doesn't need another empty suite."Mace enters a crowded GOP primary field in the 2026 race to succeed term-limited Republican Gov. Henry McMaster, who is the Palmetto State's longest-serving governor.South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette and state Sen. Josh Kimbrell are all seeking the GOP nomination in the reliably red state. They were joined a week ago by Republican Rep. Ralph Norman, who declared his candidacy.SOUTH CAROLINA ATTORNEY GENERAL ALAN WILSON LAUNCHES BID FOR GOVERNORMace, in a recent interview with Fox News Digital ahead of her launch, said that "we're starting out front, in the lead, and it's a two-man race" between her and Wilson. And she pledged that "I will fight to the finish, and I will take out South Carolina's Attorney General, because he's turned a blind eye on women and on children and on the state for a lot of reasons. He might force me to do this."Mace, in a bombshell speech on the U.S. House floor in February, alleged that Wilson ignored evidence of sexual assault against her and other women. In her hour-long speech, Mace accused four men, including her ex-fiance, of sexual crimes and said she was among the victims.Wilson vehemently denied Mace's accusations, saying at the time "that allegation was never made to me no one in my office."Wilson, in a statement to Fox News a week ago, argued that "Nancy Mace is a liar who will do anything to get attention to distract from her liberal voting record. Ive served our country and dedicated my civilian career to protecting children.""Her attacks are, again, categorically false and are just a distraction from her liberal agenda," he added. "South Carolina families need a Governor who will fight for our values, not someone who will compromise them for political gain and social media clicks."And Wilson's campaign highlighted that every sheriff in Mace's congressional district has endorsed his campaign for governor.Mace, who dropped out of high school at age 17, and worked at a Waffle House before eventually becoming the first female graduate of the Citadel's Corps of Cadets, won election to Congress in 2020. She defeated Democratic Rep. Joe Cunningham, to become the state's first Republican woman elected to the House.Mace, who worked on President Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, strongly criticized his actions surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, when Trump supporters attempted to upend congressional certification of now-former President Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 election.NANCY MACE ARGUES RUSSIAGATE A POLITICAL HIT JOBTrump backed a primary challenger against Mace when she was up for re-election in 2022, but she successfully won re-nomination and re-election.Mace later came to Trump's defense after the then-former president was indicted for mishandling classified documents. And she endorsed Trump in the 2024 Republican presidential primaries, as he topped a large field of rivals, including former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.Trump's grip over the GOP, thanks to his 2024 victory to win back the White House, is stronger than ever, and his endorsements in GOP nomination races are extremely influential.Asked if she could land the president's endorsement, Mace told Fox News Digital, "I'll be working very hard if I get in to earn his support."And in her campaign launch video, Mace uses a clip of Trump calling her a "fighter" in a speech, and adding that "when she sets her sight on something, she's tough."Mace has leaned hard into cultural issues in recent years, including leading the charge to prevent Democratic Rep. Sarah McBride of Delaware, the first openly transgender member of Congress, from using the women's restrooms in the House. And Mace, in her campaign launch, vowed to defend what she called "biological reality and stop the radical gender agenda.""No child is born in the wrong body. No boy belongs in a girls locker room. And no teenage girl should lose her scholarship to a boy in a skirt," she argued. "I've already started shutting down this woke ideology at South Carolina schools, and will do significantly more to gut this abusive ideology and ship it out of state."

CNN data guru calls President Trump most influential president this century
CNN data guru Harry Enten said on Friday that President Donald Trump is the most influential president this century because of his tariffs and immigration policies."The highest since the 1930s up from, get, this just 2% last year. As I'm going to talk about in this segment, I can't think of a more influential president during this century, and it starts here with tariffs. He said he was going to raise tariffs, and despite the claims otherwise, he is in fact doing that. The effective tariff rate at this point looks to be nine times as high as it was last year. The highest since the 90s," Enten said.Trump is increasing the tariff on Canada from 25% to 35% beginning on Friday, after the Trump administration said the neighbor to the north failed to help curb the imports of fentanyl and other illicit drugs.WATCH: DEM SENATOR AGREES WITH GOP THAT TRUMP'S MAKING PROGRESS ON TRADE WARThe White House noted that Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to increase the tariff in an effort to hold Canada accountable for its role in the flow of illicit drugs into the U.S. Additionally, Trump signed another executive order on the same day to modify the reciprocal tariff rates for some countries to further address the United States trade deficits. The action reflects Trumps efforts to protect the U.S. from foreign threats to national security and the economy by securing "fair, balanced and reciprocal trade relationships," the White House said.Enten said that Trump's immigration policies factor into Trump's significant influence as well.TRUMP THREATENS 35% TARIFF ON CANADA GOODS OVER DANGEROUS CROSS-BORDER FENTANYL DISPUTE"It is not the only way that Trump is remaking America. What are we talking about? Well, let's jump. The other big thing that Trump ran on was immigration. How about net migration in the United States? Get this, it's down. It's going to be down at least 60%. We may be dealing with, get this, negative net migration to the United States in 2025," Enten said.He continued, "That would be the first time there is negative net migration in this country in at least 50 years. We're talking about down from 2.8 million in 2024. So Donald Trump has always run on tariffs, and he's running a hawkish line on immigration. And on both of those issues we are seeing record high tariff rates for this century going all the way back, well back into the early part of the 20th century. And when it comes to immigration, net migration We are seeing record low levels way down from where we were during the Biden administration."CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Abbott threatens to remove House Dems from office following dramatic departure to avoid vote
Republican Gov. Greg Abbott threatened to arrest and expel the Texas House Democrats who fled the state to avoid a redistricting vote if they do not return by Monday afternoon.Dozens of Texas' Democratic state representatives arrived in Chicago Sunday night to stall the vote. Shortly after Abbott released his statement, the Texas House Democratic Caucus issued a simple response, writing: "Come and take it."The statement also described Republicans' proposed districts, which would potentially secure five new GOP U.S. House seats in next year's midterm elections, as a "racist mid-decade redistricting scheme."Abbott criticized the Democrats' dramatic departure, starting his call for them to return with, "real Texans don't run from a fight."TEXAS DEMOCRATS FLEE STATE TO BLOCK TRUMP-BACKED REDISTRICTING VOTE IN DRAMATIC LEGISLATIVE MOVE"Rather than doing their job and voting on urgent legislation affecting the lives of all Texans, they have fled Texas to deprive the House of the quorum necessary to meet and conduct business," he wrote. At least 100 members of the 150-member Texas House must be present to conduct business, and approximately 50 of the Democrats have left. Abbott said their commitment to voting as elected state officials is a duty and is "not optional."The Texas House is set to reconvene at 3 p.m. on Monday and Abbott said the "derelict Democrat House members must return" by then or face being removed from their positions by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. The Republican AG has already stated that the lawmakers "should be found and arrested no matter where they go."TRUMP, REPUBLICANS RACE TO REDRAW TEXAS CONGRESSIONAL MAP AS DEMOCRATS THREATEN LEGAL WARAbbott also said a legislator determined to have "forfeited his or her office due to abandonment" can be removed from office under the Texas Constitution, thereby creating a vacancy, which the governor can "swiftly fill" under Article III, Section 13.Removal from office is not the only threat facing the lawmakers on the run, as Abbott warned that "soliciting funds to evade the fines they will incur under House rules" is potentially a felony."Any Democrat who solicits, accepts or agrees to accept such funds to assist in the violation of legislative duties or for purposes of skipping a vote may have violated bribery laws," he wrote, citing the Texas Penal Code. He added that anyone who "offers, confers or agrees to confer" money to the fleeing lawmakers could also face charges.Abbott concluded his statement by saying he will "use [his] full extradition authority to demand the return to Texas of any potential out-of-state felons."The proposal's current design, which is not final, would tilt traditionally blue cities like Dallas and Houston in favor of Republicans, and would move Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett out of her own district, according to a previous Fox News Digital report.During a news conference in Chicago on Sunday, House Democratic Caucus Chair Rep. Gene Wu said the lawmakers are "not here to play political games. Were here to demand an end to this corrupt process."Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker shared his support for the Texas Democrats during the news conference, describing their departure as a "righteous act of courage," while claiming Republicans want to silence "millions of voices, especially Black and Latino voters.""Texas Democrats were left with no choice but to leave their home state, block a vote from taking place and protect their constituents," Pritzker said. The lawmakers have not stated a potential timeline for returning to Texas.

5 everyday foods and drinks silently damaging your long-term health, say nutrition experts
As more Americans turn to healthier options and substitutes when it comes to their daily diets, some everyday food and drink choices could be standing in the way of their health goals.Fox News Digital spoke with three nutrition experts about everyday foods and drinks that are doing more harm than most people realize. These daily treats range from habitual drinks to common snacks and experts urge Americans to take a closer look at what they consume.EXPERTS REVEAL HIDDEN WAYS SUGAR ACCELERATES AGING BEYOND JUST WEIGHT GAINSee the culinary culprits below and the reasons for their inclusion on this list. These are five worth noting.Microwave meals may be quick and convenient, but they often come with hidden health risks, according to Alma Simmons, a registered dietitian nutritionist at Ohio State University."Frozen meals also have levels exceeding half your total daily limit of sodium (salt), causing increased blood pressure, retention of water and possible kidney strain," she told Fox News Digital.HOMEMADE VS. PROCESSED FOODS: STUDY CHALLENGES WHAT WE THINK IS HEALTHIER"In addition, most frozen meals contain unhealthy fats (saturated, trans), preservatives and additives linked to cardiovascular disease, inflammation and potentially carcinogenic nitrosamines."She also said that heating up certain plastics even "microwave-safe" ones can leach endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Also, frozen meals are low in nutrients, said Julia Zumpano, an Ohio-based registered dietitian with Cleveland Clinic's Center for Human Nutrition."[This] can lead to nutrient deficiencies if nutrient-dense foods are not consumed in combination with these meals," she told Fox News Digital. It's best to exercise caution against daily diet sodas, as they have the potential to harm the gut biome, said Simmons."The artificial sweeteners, like aspartame, used in diet sodas may interfere with gut microbiota and insulin sensitivity, though mechanisms are still debated," she said.EXPERTS SAY QUITTING DIET COKE CAN IMPROVE HEART HEALTH AND GUT BALANCEDrinking diet soda is also just as harmful for your teeth as full-sugar soda, Simmons said."Due to acidity, tooth erosion and dental decay still occur with zero-sugar drinks," she said.Zumpano echoed Simmons' advice, noting that diet sodas can still cause elevated triglycerides, blood sugars and weight gain."Diet drinks can negatively impact the gut microbiome and increase your cravings for sweets and carbs, therefore inhibiting weight loss or appetite control," the nutritionist said. The amount of salt, unhealthy fats and calories in chips makes them a poor choice for a daily treat, said Lauren Manaker, a registered dietitian based in South Carolina.HEALTHY, SATISFYING ALTERNATIVES TO POTATO CHIPS: 'YOU'LL ADJUST'"Eating them daily can contribute to high blood pressure and make it harder to feel full, leading to overeating," she said."Too much sodium can strain your heart and kidneys, while the lack of nutrients means they don't provide lasting energy or satiety," she also told Fox News Digital. She recommended chips as an occasional treat or swapping them for other salty snacks."Try alternatives like air-popped popcorn or roasted chickpeas for more nutrients," Manaker advised.Your sugary pre-work pick-me-up might bring you a lot of joy but it can also raise serious health concerns.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTERExcess sugar in coffee can spike your blood sugar levels and leave you feeling tired later, Manaker warned."Drinks like flavored lattes or Frappuccinos can pack a surprising amount of added sugar, sometimes more than a dessert," she said."Drinking them daily can lead to energy crashes and increase the risk of weight gain or insulin resistance over time."Instead, she suggested retraining your palate by going for unsweetened coffees and saving the sugary versions as an occasional treat. The hardest habit for some Americans to quit is drinking alcohol. For more Lifestyle articles, visit foxnews.com/lifestyleDaily alcohol consumption "can strain your liver, disrupt sleep and increase the risk of long-term health issues like high blood pressure and certain cancers," said Manaker."Even small amounts can add up over time," she said. Its mood-disrupting qualities and empty calories make it a less-than-ideal daily habit and Manaker encouraged limiting alcohol to a few days a week."Always pair it with water to stay hydrated," she said."Or try a mocktail."

Trump's global reset of trade relationships will remain in the spotlight this week
President Donald Trump's global reset of trade relationships will remain in the spotlight this week as his administration moves forward with sweeping new taxes on imports. The White House said last week that the new tariff rates, originally slated to take effect Aug. 1, will come into force on Thursday in order to give U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials additional time to prepare to collect the duties.WHERE TRUMP'S TARIFFS STAND NOW AND THE WINDING ROAD THAT LED US HEREIn the days leading up to the Aug. 1 deadline, Trump announced trade deals with Japan, the European Union, and South Korea.
