WWW.FOXNEWS.COMTwo cancer drugs show promise in reversing Alzheimer's devastating effectsTwo cancer drugs could potentially slow or even reverse the effects of Alzheimers disease, a new study suggests.Researchers at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) explored how the common dementia changes gene expression (which genes are turned on or off) in certain brain cells, according to a press release from the university.Next, they looked at which existing FDA-approved drugs might counteract, or reverse, those changes.ALZHEIMER'S RISK COULD RISE WITH SPECIFIC SLEEP PATTERN, EXPERTS WARNIn analyzing millions of electronic medical records of adults over 65, the researchers identified two medications that appeared to reduce the likelihood of Alzheimers in the patients who took them. The medications letrozone and irinotecan are both approved to treat cancer. Letrozole is a breast cancer medication and irinotecan treats colon and lung cancer. When the scientists tested a combination of both medications in mice, they noted a reversal of the gene expression changes that were initiated by Alzheimers. They also discovered a reduction intau protein clumps in the brain a key marker of Alzheimers and an improvement in learning and memory."Alzheimers disease comes with complex changes to the brain, which has made it tough to study and treat, but our computational tools opened up the possibility of tackling the complexity directly," said co-senior author Marina Sirota, PhD, the interim director of the UCSF Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute and professor of pediatrics, in the press release.EATING THESE COMMON FOODS COULD REDUCE ALZHEIMER'S RISK, EXPERTS SAY"Were excited that our computational approach led us to a potential combination therapy for Alzheimers based on existing FDA-approved medications."The results of the study, which was funded in part by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation, were published in the journal Cell on July 21.While the studys outcome was promising, the researchers acknowledged several limitations, including the fact that the database they used to identify possible drugs was built from cancer cells, not brain cells. They also noted that animal models were used."Although necessary, validation in animal models may not fully recapitulate human biology," the researchers wrote.MEN FACE DOUBLE DEMENTIA RISK IF THEY HAVE A HIDDEN GENETIC MUTATIONThere was also a noticeable gender difference in response to the medications, with male mice responding better than females."As a hormone modulator, letrozole might contribute to this sex difference," the team noted. "However, the analysis remains inconclusive due to the small number of male letrozole users."The electronic medical records could also present limitations, "as data tend to be sparse and are not collected with specific research in mind."More than seven million people in the U.S. are currently living with Alzheimers, according to the Alzheimers Association. This number is expected to approach 13 million by the year 2050.There are currently only two disease-modifying medications that have been FDA-approved to treat Alzheimers, UCSF states.Lecanemab (Leqembi) and donanemab (Kisunla) are both monoclonal antibodies that are administered via IV infusions. They work by reducing the build-up of amyloid plaques in the brain, but they are only effective for those with early-stage Alzheimer's and have the potential for some serious side effects, according to experts.(Other Alzheimers medications help with symptoms, but dont treat the underlying disease.)CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTER"Alzheimers is likely the result of numerous alterations in many genes and proteins that, together, disrupt brain health," said co-senior study authorYadong Huang, M.D., PhD, professor of neurology and pathology at UCSF, in the release."This makes it very challenging for drug development which traditionally produces one drug for a single gene or protein that drives disease."Looking ahead, the researchers plan to start a clinical trial to explore the combined drugs impact on human patients with Alzheimers."If completely independent data sources, such as single-cell expression data and clinical records, guide us to the same pathways and the same drugs, and then resolve Alzheimers in a genetic model, then maybe were onto something," Sirota said in the release. For more Health articles, visitwww.foxnews.com/health"Were hopeful this can be swiftly translated into a real solution for millions of patients with Alzheimers."0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 16 Views 0 Vista previa

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMSenate Republicans call on DOJ to appoint special counsel in Obama-Russia investigationFIRST ON FOX: Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and John Cornyn, R-Texas, are asking Attorney General Pam Bondi to appoint a special counsel to investigate newly declassified information about the Obama administrations intelligence assessments about Russian interference in the 2016 election.Graham and Cornyns call for a special counsel, which Fox News Digital learned they are announcing Thursday morning, comes the day after the Department of Justice (DOJ) created a "strike force" to investigate the evidence, which was declassified by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard this month.Graham and Cornyn, both senior members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, did not address the strike force but indicated in a statement that special counsels, who are outside officials brought in to oversee politically sensitive cases, operate independently of the attorney general.Fox News reached out to the DOJ for comment on the special counsel request.DOJ FORMS RUSSIAGATE STRIKE FORCE TO INVESTIGATE DECLASSIFIED OBAMA-ERA EVIDENCE"As we have supported in the past, appointing an independent special counsel would do the country a tremendous service in this case," Graham and Cornyn said.Gabbards declassified intelligence shed new light on the Obama administrations determination that Russia sought to help President Donald Trump in the 2016 election. Gabbard alleged Wednesday during a press briefing that Obama and his intelligence officials promoted a "contrived narrative that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to help President Trump win, selling it to the American people as though it were true. It wasn't."Graham, who previously served as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, led the Senate's inquiry into the FBI's investigation into alleged Trump-Russia collusion and released a tranche of documents in 2020 suggesting the bureau had a flimsy basis for opening its investigation into Trump.RUSSIA SAT ON INTEL OF HILLARY CLINTON'S ALLEGED HEAVY TRANQUILIZERS USE, NEW DOCS CLAIM"With every piece of information that gets released, it becomes more evident that the entire Russia collusion hoax was created by the Obama administration to subvert the will of the American people," Graham and Cornyn said.Their remarks follow Trump accusing former President Barack Obama of "treason" this week and after the DOJ opened criminal investigations into former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey.Critics say Gabbard's claims have been contradicted by past congressional reviews, some of which were led by Republicans. Obama, meanwhile, issued a statement in response to the wave of headlines suggesting he attempted to hurt Trump's election chances."Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing out of this White House with a response," Obama spokesperson Patrick Rodenbush said. "But these claims are outrageous enough to merit one. These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction."This is a developing story. WWW.FOXNEWS.COMFormer star gymnast reacts to Team USA following Trump's executive order to protect women's sportsFormer American women's gymnast Dee Worley broke her silence on the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) updating its policies to suggest it will comply with President Donald Trump's "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports" executive order.Worley told Fox News Digital that she is concerned about the "vague" nature of the new policy and that the USOPC has not laid out any clear guidelines regarding trans inclusion in women's sports, but it has simply included one paragraph in its athlete safety policy that directly cites Trump's "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports" executive order.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"I think they're intentionally leaving it vague to leave room for flips and to leave room for the athletes to sort of lose autonomy over whether the competition is fair," Worley said. "They're leaving just that little bit of wiggle room to accommodate the woke mob."The former gymnast, who competed for the U.S. national team as early as her high school years in the late 1980s, has joined other female athletes and activists, including women's fencer Stephanie Turner, in calling for the USOPC to now implement mandatory sex screening for women's competitions.Worley said that she doesn't believe any momentum on the issue will be achieved until mandatory sex screenings are implemented.Similar calls befell the NCAA after it updated its gender eligibility policy to comply with Trump in February. Worley made history at the University of Alabama as a 17-time All-American, a four-time champion and a nine-time regional champion. As a senior in 1993, she set an NCAA record with perfect 10's in five consecutive meets.Still, Worley recognized that the recent change by the USOPC indicates the impact of public pressure on the organization over the issue of trans athletes in women's sports. Worley previously criticized gymnastics legend Simone Biles for verbally attacking conservative activist Riley Gaines over the issue in June and now believes that the impact of the viral feud showed the USOPC that people aren't afraid to speak out on the issue anymore.FORMER STAR GYMNAST SLAMS USA GYMNASTICS FOR TRANS ATHLETE POLICY HANDLING"I think everybody overplayed their hand in that situation, related to Simone, starting with her, and then including the governing body. The pressure is mounting, people are no longer afraid to be called names. People are no longer afraid to stand on the side of what is right," Worley said."The fact that Simone deleted her X account is absolutely evidence that [the impact of the feud has grown since it occurred]. I do think in the overall landscape of female sports it was a watershed moment."Other athletes have directly credited the feud between Gaines and Biles as a potential motivator for the timing of the USOPC's policy change.Turner told Fox News Digital that she believes it affected the change."Simone represented a side of the debate that didn't seem very informed about this issue, and it came off as insensitive and insulting as if she had abandon all the women and girls that she claims to support," Turner said. "That really put a spotlight on this debate and how insensitive being pro-men in women's sports really is for women."Former NFL player Jack Brewer told Fox News Digital that he believed the feud impacted the recent change as well."I believe the feud between Simone Biles and Riley Gaines had a lot to do with the Olympics banning transgender athletes. It exposed public opinion, and I think President Trumps victory in the last election was a major catalyst as well. People with common sense are trying to distance themselves from this lie thats been taught to our children and has penetrated throughout our societythat somehow you can choose your gender," Brewer said."I think people in America and in this culture are just not going to accept that. This was showcased in the feud between two of Americas greatest female athletes in their respective sports. Simone Biles, by the way, is one of the greatest athletes in the history of America. For that to come out of her mouth, it really highlighted how deeply this lie has penetrated society. That was unfortunate, but sometimes you get a reality check, get slapped in the face, and you tend to wake up."Follow Fox News Digitals sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 30 Views 0 Vista previa

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMWest Point Bible crest controversy spurs Pentagon lawsuit from conservative watchdogFIRST ON FOX:A conservative judicial and government watchdog group has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Department of Defense over documents related to a controversy surrounding the U.S. Military Academy at West Point crest on Bibles in the West Point Cadet Chapel.Judicial Watch originally submitted a FOIA request in December 2024 for documents related to the Bibles, after the MacArthur Society, a group for West Point graduates concerned about potential politicization at the military academy, tipped them off to the potential removal of the crest from the Bibles. The original request for the documents said: "Upon information and belief, the West Point Crest has appeared on the cover of the Bibles in the West Point Chapel since 1984, but circa December 2024, the Crest has been removed from the Bibles."It's unclear why the crest was removed, prompting Judicial Watch to file the original FOIA request to learn more about the decision, amid concerns that the military academy is seeking to wipe out any affiliation with what the group calls "traditional values."Mixing religious material with military paraphernalia has come under scrutiny in the past. For example, all four branches of the military yanked approval in 2012 for a military series of Holman Christian Standard Bibles that were sold at military exchanges, due to concerns that the series signaled the Bible was the official religious text of the military services, according to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. The West Point crest has undergone multiple variations, but historically has featured an eagle above the school's mascot, the Black Knights.A spokesperson for West Point told Fox News Digital that the chapel's Bibles now feature the name of the military academy."The bibles purchased for the West Point Cadet Chapel are emblazoned, The United States Miliary Academy, West Point, New York,'" the spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News Digital. The Department of Defense told Fox News Digital it does not comment on pending litigation. WEST POINT DECISION TO CUT DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY FROM MISSION STATEMENT UNDER FIRE AGAIN'Even so, Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit for the documents pertaining to the Bibles Tuesday after receiving no response for the requested records."It appears the Biden administration and its leftist accomplices were determined to sever all connections between West Point and traditional values," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "They added divisive DEI programs to the curriculum and removed Duty, Honor, Country from the Military Academys mission statement. Now, we learn they removed the West Point crest from Bibles in the West Point Chapel. Its a wonder they didnt remove the Bibles."This isnt the first time West Point has come under scrutiny from the conservative watchdog.HEGSETH QUIPS '99.9%' OF DEI INITIATIVES ARE GONE FROM THE MILITARY UNDER TRUMPS WATCHIn May, Judicial Watch claimed that West Point engaged in a "cover up" scheme when it altered its mission statement in 2024 from "duty, honor, country" to "Army Values." According to the watchdog group, the change was part of an effort to advance a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) agenda.Even so, West Points mission statement has been changed nine times in the past century, and the words "duty, honor, country" didnt make it into West Points mission statement until 1998.When asked about the mission statement change in May, an Army spokesperson directed Fox News Digital to West Point Superintendent Lt. Gen. Steven Gilland's original announcement: "Our absolute focus on developing leaders of character ready to lead our Army's Soldiers on increasingly lethal battlefields remains unchanged."West Point is one of several U.S. military academies that trains students to become military officers.TRUMP DOD CREATES TASK FORCE TO ABOLISH DEI OFFICES THAT 'PROMOTE SYSTEMIC RACISM'0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 14 Views 0 Vista previa

Cibrowski's announcement during Thursday's 9 a.m. editorial call sparked lots of claps and excitement, according to one CBS News staffer who attended.A "60 Minutes" producer told Fox News Digital that Simon's appointment will lift clouds that have hovered over the newsroom in recent months. And while staffers still have their worries going forward, Simon serving as their leader in an official capacity is a "positive signal in terms of the future of 60 Minutes being able to stay true to its founding principles."Simon was first tapped to lead "60 Minutes" in April following the resignation of Bill Owens, who claimed he could no longer maintain editorial independence from corporate honchos while CBS' parent company Paramount Global was in a months-long legal battle with President Donald Trump.60 MINUTES KAMALA HARRIS INTERVIEW AT THE CENTER OF TRUMP'S CBS LAWSUIT RECEIVES EMMY NOMINATIONIt was previously reported that Shari Redstone, Paramount's controlling shareholder, wanted to keep tabs on "60 Minutes" stories pertaining to the Trump administration as she aimed to settle Trump's lawsuit against CBS News in order to pave the way for Paramount's $8 billion merger with Skydance Media, which needs FCC approval. Trump and Paramount settled the lawsuit earlier this month.Trump had accused CBS News of election interference over its handling of the "60 Minutes" interview of then-Vice President Kamala Harris in the weeks leading up to the presidential election, specifically over how her comments to an answer were edited differently between the preview clip that aired on "Face the Nation," which was mocked on social media as "word salad," versus the cleaner portion of her response that aired during the primetime special. Owens stood by the edit and refused to offer an apology.60 MINUTES STAFF STAND BY KAMALA HARRIS INTERVIEW AT THE CENTER OF TRUMP'S MAJOR PARAMOUNT LAWSUITWhile CBS News did not issue any statement of regret as part of Paramount's settlement with Trump, the network did adopt a new editorial policy that would require all raw transcripts of interviews with presidential candidates to be released.Regardless, Paramount's settlement sparked fierce condemnation among liberal critics who accuse the company of bending the knee to Trump. Tensions further escalated last week after CBS News announced it was canceling "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" in May 2026, something the network insisted was purely a financial decision.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 15 Views 0 Vista previa
