Giants' Rafael Devers makes surprising admission on played defense after run as designated hitter with Red Sox
Rafael Devers had a glove on Tuesday as he made his debut at first base during the San Francisco Giants' second game of a three-game series with the Atlanta Braves.Playing defense was largely a surprise, considering Devers was adamant about his desire to exclusively handle designated hitter duties when he was with his prior team, the Boston Red Sox. But, Devers' comments after the game were perhaps even more surprising.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMDevers said he actually prefers playing defense over exclusively picking up a bat during MLB games."It keeps me active. It keeps my head out of just thinking about the next at-bat," Devers said according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "Id rather be on the field than in the cage hitting all the time and thinking about the next at-bat."SURPRISED BY THE BREWERS? HOW A BUNCH OF 'AVERAGE JOES' ARE AMONG MLB'S BESTRafael Devers had a tense spring training. During the exhibition period, Red Sox manager Alex Cora and Devers appeared to be at odds about whether he would spend time on the baseball diamond covering third base.Shortly before Opening Day, Cora confirmed Devers would handle the team's designated hitter duties on a full-time basis. However, when Boston's primary first baseman Triston Casas suffered a serious injury, it prompted another proposal from the Red Sox brass.Former Red Sox pitcher and the franchise's current chief baseball officer, Craig Breslow, brought up the idea of Devers covering first base in the future, the New York Post reported in May. However, the three-time MLB All-Star reportedly shut down the idea.During his public rebuttal of the potential position change, Devers cited the Red Sox' previous instructions related to him using his glove."I know Im a ballplayer, but at the same time, they cant expect me to play every single position out there," Devers said via a translator, the Boston Globe reported in May. "In spring training, they talked to me and basically told me to put away my glove, that I wasn't going to play any other position but DH."Devers had two base hits during his first base debut with San Francisco. The Giants ultimately celebrated a 9-0 victory over the Braves on Tuesday. The Giants also won Wednesday's game against Atlanta to win the three-game series.Follow Fox News Digitals sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Pennsylvania woman allegedly used 10 different aliases to pose as nurse across multiple facilities
A 39-year-old woman is accused of using fraudulent documents and at least 10 different aliases to land nursing jobs across Pennsylvania.Shannon Nicole Womack, 39, has been charged with crimes including forgery, identity theft, procurement fraud, unlawful use of a computer, theft by unlawful taking, and endangering the welfare of care, according to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital.TEXAS WOMAN ACCUSED OF PLOTTING EX-HUSBAND'S MURDER WITH FENTANYL-LACED CHOCOLATES UNDER INDICTMENTWomack allegedly used different aliases to pose as a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse and registered nurse supervisor at nursing facilities and rehabilitation centers. Investigators say she secured the jobs through staffing agencies by submitting fraudulently signed documents. She also created a fake limited liability company (LLC), according to a news release from Pennsylvania State Police. In April, state troopers conducted a traffic stop of a Mercedes-Benz vehicle in western Pennsylvania. Womack, the driver, provided the troopers with false identification, and an investigation revealed that around 20 different aliases and seven different social security numbers were associated with her.FORMER PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER CHARGED WITH MULTIPLE SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST 3 CHILDRENInvestigators believe Womack began this pattern of fraud in 2020 and continued it across other states in the eastern part of the U.S., according to a separate news release from Pennsylvania State Police. While a motive is not yet clear, the criminal complaint outlined that Womack had also stolen medication from several healthcare facilities."This case is particularly notable as it spans multiple states along the East Coast, suggesting a broader scope than initially anticipated," a spokesperson for Pennsylvania State Police told Fox News Digital in an email. "As court proceedings unfold, we may gain further insight into the underlying motive. However, the complaint already outlines a pattern of medication theft from several healthcare facilities."COLOMBIAN WOMAN CHARGED WITH ILLEGALLY VOTING IN 2024 ELECTION STEALING $400,000 IN TAXPAYER FUNDED BENEFITSThe spokesperson added, "What stands out is not only the financial aspect, including payment for services, but also the involvement of high-value pharmaceuticals, which currently appears to be a significant link in the investigation."Pennsylvania State Police along with the Department of Health, Department of State, and multiple district attorneys and states are asking healthcare providers across Pennsylvania to review their employment records to assist in their ongoing investigation. The aliases Womack used across different areas of Pennsylvania include: Shannon Nicole Parham, Shannon Nicole Abiola, Shannon Nicole Armstrong, Shannon Abiola-Parham, Shannon Nicole Grimes, Shannon Nicole Womack, Shannon Nicole Lawson, Shannon Nicole Lethco, Shannon Nicole Robinson and Shannon Lee Lawson.

Federal appeals court rules against Trump's birthright citizenship executive order
President Donald Trump's executive order (EO) putting an end to birthright citizenship faced another legal setback after a federal appeals court on Wednesday ruled it to be unconstitutional. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco affirmed a lower court's decision blocking the nationwide enforcement of the EO, which would deny citizenship to babies born to people illegally or temporarily in the U.S.A three-judge panel ruled against Trump's plan in a 2-1 vote, keeping a decision first made by U.S. District Judge John C. Coughenour in Seattle in place."The district court correctly concluded that the Executive Orders proposed interpretation, denying citizenship to many persons born in the United States, is unconstitutional. We fully agree," the majority wrote.SCOTUS RULES ON TRUMP'S BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP ORDER, TESTING LOWER COURT POWERSThough the Supreme Court has since restricted lower courts from issuing nationwide injunctions, the majority in the 9th Circuit ruled against the EO after discovering the case fell under an exception left open by SCOTUS justices.States filed the case against the Trump administration after arguing that a nationwide order is needed to block the EO in order to prevent problems that would arise from birthright citizenship being outlawed in some states."We conclude that the district court did not abuse its discretion in issuing a universal injunction in order to give the States complete relief," wrote Judges Michael Hawkins and Ronald Gould, both of whom were appointed by former President Bill Clinton.Judge Patrick Bumatay, a Trump appointee, dissented after deciding that states don't have the legal right or standing to sue the Trump administration over this.He did not weigh in on the constitutionality of ending birthright citizenship.HOW THE SUPREME COURT'S INJUNCTION RULING ADVANCES TRUMP'S BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP FIGHTThe Citizenship Clause of the 14th Amendment states that people born or naturalized in the U.S., or "subject to United States jurisdiction," are American citizens, but Department of Justice attorneys argue that does not mean children are automatically American citizens based solely on birth location.Trump's EO would deny American citizenship to a child born to a mother without legal or permanent status in the U.S., and whose father does not hold legal or permanent status. The Trump administration is facing at least nine lawsuits across the country challenging the EO.The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Pam Bondi cancels appearance at anti-trafficking summit over medical issue
Attorney General Pam Bondi abruptly canceled her scheduled Wednesday appearance at CPAC's anti-trafficking summit in Washington, D.C., citing her recovery from a health issue.Bondi was expected to speak at CPAC's Summit Against Human Trafficking when it was revealed she could not make her scheduled appearance."I do have a note from the attorney general, from Attorney General Pam Bondi, that I wanted to share,"Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti told attendees.Galeotti then read Bondi's statement to the crowd.GHISLAINE MAXWELL SUBPOENAED BY HOUSE OVERSIGHT SUBCOMMITTEE AMID EPSTEIN FILES PUSH"I'm sorry to miss all of my CPAC friends today," Bondi said in her statement."Unfortunately, I am recovering from a recently torn cornea, which is preventing me from being with you," she continued. "I truly wish I was able to join you and support all of the work being done on this critical issue."After reading the statement, scattered applause was heard from the audience."We appreciate the applause for her and not boos for me," Galeotti joked. "So I will do my best to fill those big shoes."The Justice Department did not disclose additional information about Bondi's health condition.Other Trump administration officials spoke at the event, including Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and border czar Tom Homan.Bondi's canceled appearance comes as she has faced recent scrutiny over the Trump administration's refusal to release documents surrounding the case of deceased sex predator Jeffrey Epstein.According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, Bondi notified President Donald Trump in May that his name appeared multiple times in the Epstein documents. The attorney general said earlier this year that an Epstein "client list" was on her desk before the Justice Department and FBI recently claimed that Epstein killed himself and that there was no evidence he kept such a list. Bondi also walked back her earlier comments, saying she was referring to the Epstein case file, not a "client list."FEDERAL JUDGE RULES ON TRUMP'S REQUEST TO UNSEAL EPSTEIN GRAND JURY TRANSCRIPTSTrump has sought to avoid the Epstein topic in recent weeks, repeatedly arguing the issue does not matter anymore. He also said he no longer wants the support of his past supporters who continue to press the Epstein case, criticizing them as "weaklings."The president said at the White House last week that Bondi could release "whatever's credible" related to the Epstein case as he defended her work on the matter and criticized Republicans who are still pushing for Epstein material to be released."He's dead. He's gone," Trump said of Epstein. "And, all it is, is the Republicans, certain Republicans got duped by the Democrats, and they're following a Democrat playbook and no different than Russia, Russia, Russia and all the other hoaxes."The administration eventually asked for a judge to unseal transcripts from Florida grand jury proceedings into Epstein amid calls for transparency about the case, but the request was denied.

Notable NFL stars who are off the field as training camp arrives
NFL training camp has finally arrived, which means we are that much closer to football season. However, for at least a few players, the season may be delayed. It is hardly uncommon for players to sit out of training camp in the wake of contract negotiations, as players do not want to risk injury in practice before getting their bag. It's worked for some (Darrelle Revis), while others (Le'Veon Bell and Haason Reddick) lost their gamble.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMSome situations are more complicated than others, but we compiled a list of several players off the practice field as they eye new contracts.Parsons is currently claiming that back tightness is the reason he is not practicing, but he did tell Fox News Digital earlier this year that he would likely hold out without a new deal which he still does not have. His 52.5 career sacks are the sixth-most by any player in his first four seasons, and he finished second, second and third in the Defensive Player of the Year voting in each of his first three years. It is safe to say he deserves to break the bank. However, instead of signing a deal, he and owner Jerry Jones have taken shots at one another in the last couple of days.McLaurin signed a three-year extension reportedly worth over $68 million prior to the 2022 season that kicked off in 2023. Now, with one year remaining on that deal, and arguably the best season of his career, McLaurin is holding out for a new deal. It's a rather inopportune time for McLaurin to hold out, as the Washington Commanders want to avoid a sophomore slump with Jayden Daniels. However, McLaurin, who turns 30 on Sept. 15, just racked up a career-high 13 touchdowns to go along with his fifth-consecutive 1,000-yard season.DOLPHINS PLAYER AIRLIFTED TO HOSPITAL AFTER TRAINING CAMP INJURY SCAREThe Cincinnati Bengals and their star defensive end have been at a standstill. Hendrickson skipped all the Bengals offseason activities leading up to the start of training camp. The 30-year-old earned First-team All-Pro honors after his NFL-leading 17.5 sacks last season. But he recently said the Bengals have been silent regarding a new deal, and Hendrickson has said he will not play under his current contract. This season marks the final year of Hendrickson's deal.Hendrickson turned 30 in December, has been with Cincinnati since 2021 and has been an absolute steal for them. He spent his first four seasons with the New Orleans Saints but failed to put up numbers until his final season there, recording a career-high at the time of 13.5 sacks after just 6.5 in his first three NFL seasons.Make that two edge rushers that the Bengals won't sign this one being the 17th pick of this past April's draft. The Bengals are reportedly trying to change the way their first-round rookie contracts are done, which would allow the team to void future guarantees. The contract battle has resulted in a war of words between the two sides. Not exactly a great start to the career. Stewart did not participate in mandatory minicamp last month, either.Like Parsons, Anzalone is dealing with an injury, but he has been vocal about wanting a new deal, as well."I want to retire a Lion. I want that opportunity. Thats how I feel. Im disappointed. Lets just say that," Anzalone said on Tuesday morning when asked about a potential new deal with his Detroit Lions, via MLive.com.Anzalone is currently entering the final year of an $18.3 million deal with Detroit, whom he has spent the last four seasons with.Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X,and subscribe tothe Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Tower of London dig reveals Black Death-era skeletons below popular tourist site: 'Tip of the iceberg'
Archaeologists recently uncovered the ancient skeletons of possible Black Death victims buried just beneath one of London's most popular tourist spots.Historic Royal Palaces (HRP), the organization that manages the Tower of London, shared the news with Fox News Digital. The discoveries were made during an excavation in the spring, marking the first dig at the Tower of London in three decades. It took place ahead of a scheduled renovation of the Church of St. Peter ad Vincula, a chapel that dates back to the 15th century.SINKHOLE IN HISTORIC CITY REVEALS MEDIEVAL HOSPITAL HIDING JUST BENEATH STREET LEVEL"As a final resting place for many who lived or were imprisoned within the Towers walls including three queens and two Catholic saints [the church] undoubtedly has a few stories to tell," HRP said. "But much of its earlier history remains unknown."It added, "Now, finds from the most significant excavation at the Tower in a generation are beginning to shed light on both the development of its chapel and some of the people connected with it."One of the most eyebrow-raising finds was a mass grave of 14th-century skeletons, which officials said were "possibly linked to the Black Death."In a separate discovery, archaeologists found even older graves in coffins likely belonging to high-status individuals.HISTORY BUFF UNCOVERS LOST MEDIEVAL MONASTERY THANKS TO STRANGE MAP SYMBOL"Three skeletons from the late 12th or early 13th century were also uncovered," the statement read. "These individuals appeared to have been buried in coffins an unusual practice at the time, possibly indicating high-status burials."In total, the remains of 20 individuals were found during the excavation.Officials also identified a fragment of a burial shroud at the site, which HRP described as "extremely rare" since it is made of fabric."One separate burial contained two 12th- to early 13th-century pots filled with charcoal exceptionally rare examples of medieval grave goods previously recorded only once in England," the statement added."These finds will now undergo further scientific analysis."CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTERAlfred Hawkins, a curator of historic buildings at HRP, described the excavation as a "generational opportunity.""These excavations were essential as part of our mission to provide greater access for people to visit this important place of worship, but they have also given us an amazing opportunity to explore the site in more depth than ever before," he said.In addition to the skeletal finds, archaeologists also uncovered "tantalizing hints of the chapels earlier incarnations," HRP said.Though the current chapel was built in 1520, officials found evidence of "a large-scale burning event," which points towards the destruction of an earlier structure likely the one built by Edward I in 1287.For more Lifestyle articles, visit foxnews.com/lifestyle"A compacted layer of Reigate stone unearthed during the dig may date even earlier potentially to works by Henry III in 1240," HRP said. "Elsewhere, a large section of wall and what may be a floor surface could be remnants of Henry Is 12th-century chapel, about which very little is known.""This marks the first major archaeological dig in this part of the Tower, offering a rare opportunity to redraw the map of the medieval fortress and enhance our understanding of those who lived, worshiped, and died there."Jane Sidell, principal inspector of ancient monuments at Historic England, said the project helps gain insight into Tower residents "in a way we have never been able to do before.""But this is just the tip of the iceberg there is so much more to learn through further analysis of the people, as well as the buildings, of one of Englands most evocative historic monuments."

Bryan Kohberger transferred to maximum security state prison
Bryan Kohberger will spend the rest of his life in prison, but the details about how and where he'll be kept are still emerging. The 30-year-old former criminologist received four consecutive life sentences plus another 10 years for the murders of University of Idaho students Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20.A source with knowledge of the case told Fox News Digital Kohberger was already in custody at the state prison in Kuna, about 16 miles from the Ada County courthouse, by Wednesday afternoon.Kohberger's sentence amounts to "life and death in prison," as Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson put it during a rare news briefing after the hearing.IDAHO VICTIMS' FAMILIES TO ADDRESS KILLER DIRECTLY AT KOHBERGER SENTENCINGThe Idaho Department of Correction declined to give specific details about the transfer process."Once in IDOC custody, the person goes through a Reception and Diagnostic Unit (RDU) process to evaluate their needs and determine appropriate housing placement; this process takes 7-14 days," a spokesperson told Fox News Digital. "We wait until a person completes RDU to determine their classification, housing placement, and privileges."BRYAN KOHBERGER TRADED DEATH PENALTY FOR LIFE SENTENCE THAT COULD STILL END VIOLENTLY BEHIND BARSWATCH: Sister of Kaylee Goncalves speaks out during Bryan Kohberger's sentencing hearingThat evaluation will include a psyche check to determine whether Kohberger may be a threat to himself, other inmates, or prison staff, said Paul Mauro, a retired NYPD inspector and Fox News contributor who has closely followed the case. He'll probably be placed in solitary confinement, Mauro said, at least for a while. But inmates are typically not kept there indefinitely, he said, and eventually he could wind up in general population with other killers.BRYAN KOHBERGER PLEADS GUILTY TO IDAHO MURDERS"In the general population, he is vulnerable, and he's notorious and in prison, especially for lifers, your reputation as being dangerous and just your reputation in general is the currency," he said. "So there could be somebody looking to do him. On the other hand, we do want to remember Idaho is a death penalty state, and if you're in for life, and you kill somebody, well, that's going to get you to death penalty."Kohberger could try to request an out-of-state transfer, but that would be a rare move, according to Josh Ritter, a criminal defense attorney and the host of "The Courtroom Confidential" podcast."He's not going anywhere," he told Fox News Digital.FOLLOW THE FOX TRUE CRIME TEAM ON XDuring their impact statements during Kohberger's sentencing Wednesday, the victims' families delivered a range of messages, from outrage to forgiveness."They ran the gamut, right, you have people who were willing to forgive him, and saying you know, 'If you ever want to talk, please call me I'll hear you out,' and then you had people who we're wishing death on him," Mauro told Fox News Digital.Kristi Goncalves, Kaylee's mother, invoked the words Kohberger is believed to have said to the victims, overheard by one of the surviving roommates.SIGN UP TO GETTRUE CRIME NEWSLETTER"When those prison doors slam shut behind you, I hope that sound echoes in your heart for the rest of your meaningless days," she said. "I hope it reminds you of what we all already know. You're nothing. May you continue to live your life in misery. But it's OK because they're there 'to help you.' Hell will be waiting."Goncalves' father and sister also alluded to how he may be treated poorly by people bigger than him behind bars."They want to be in his head. They want him living in fear. They want him thinking in terms of that not only is he a failure, which is what they were calling him, but that he is a target," Mauro said. "They want that on his mind, which is a very wearing thing."LIKE WHAT YOU'RE READING? FIND MORE ON THE TRUE CRIME HUBKohberger's already been rubbing fellow inmates the wrong way, according to files released by the Moscow Police Department Wednesday evening.Investigators overheard a male inmate talking with a female prisoner about Kohberger during jail transport. He called Kohberger a "f---ing weirdo" and said he would've beat him up if he wasn't worried about getting punished for it.Asked if he thought Kohberger committed the crimes, he said yes."His eyes tell a story," he said.Another inmate told investigators that Kohberger spent hours each day video chatting with his mother while in custody.According to the interview, the inmate was watching sports during one of those calls and said "you suck" at a player on TV.Kohberger, who overheard the comment, allegedly "immediately got up and put his face to the bars" and "aggressively asked if [the inmate] was talking about him or his mother."The inmate said this was the only time he witnessed Kohberger lose his temper.
