Louisville mayor shifts city's immigration policy after legal threat from DOJ
The mayor of Louisville, Kentucky, informed the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday that he is shifting the city's more restrictive policy on federal immigration detainers after the government warned it would sue over it.Mayor Craig Greenberg, a Democrat, wrote in a letter obtained by Fox News Digital that the policy change was partly to avoid being targeted as a "sanctuary" city, a term used to describe jurisdictions with policies at odds with federal immigration enforcement."My understanding is that, by returning to our pre-2017 practices and again honoring 48-hour detainers, thereby functionally extending the notice period to DHS from 5-12 hours to 48 hours, Louisville will no longer be considered a sanctuary jurisdiction and, as a result, will no longer be vulnerable to the negative consequences of this designation," Greenberg wrote to Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate. "The city will, therefore, adjust its detainer policy to avoid litigation over DOJ's allegations of federal preemption."DOJ SUES NEW YORK FOR SANCTUARY POLICY UNDERMINING IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENTThe mayor's reversal comes after the DOJ warned in a letter last month that Louisville's detainer policy hindered the Trump administration's ability to crack down on immigration there. The DOJ told Greenberg non-compliant states and cities have faced legal action and freezes on federal funding.Detainer policies are one of the most common reasons that cities become designated as sanctuaries for illegal immigrants.Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) uses detainer forms to notify jails that federal authorities have identified a possible illegal immigrant in local custody that ICE wants to detain. Sanctuary jurisdictions have policies in place to ignore those notices. In the case of Louisville, the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections was not honoring the 48-hour period ICE requested to hold suspects, thereby releasing the suspects from custody before ICE could arrest them. The revelation of Louisville's policy shift comes after Attorney General Pam Bondi mentioned Tuesday morning in an X post that the city was "dropping its sanctuary city policies," though she did not mention details.TWO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS CONNECTED TO CBP AGENT SHOOTING ENTERED US ILLEGALLY UNDER BIDEN"This should set an example to other cities," Bondi said. "Instead of forcing us to sue you which we will, without hesitation follow the law, get rid of sanctuary policies, and work with us to fix the illegal immigration crisis."The DOJ has also brought immigration-related lawsuits in New York, Chicago, Colorado and elsewhere, though judges have not weighed in on the merits of the government's arguments at this stage of litigation.

China denies wrongdoing in preventing dozens of Americans from leaving under shadow 'exit ban'
China denied on Tuesday that it is doing anything wrong as it reportedly prevents "dozens" of Americans from leaving the country under an "exit ban" policy, including at least one U.S. government official.Reports emerged Monday afternoon that an American citizen, an employee of the Commerce Department, has been barred from leaving China and prevented from returning to the U.S. since his passport, credit card, cellphone and iPad were seized on April 14, reported The New York Times. The passport was reportedly returned to the individual one week later on April 22, though he was told he was not allowed to leave China.IRAN SEEKS CHINA, RUSSIA HELP TO STALL UN SANCTIONS AHEAD OF NUCLEAR TALKS WITH EUROPEANSThe identity of the government official remains unknown, though a spokesperson for the State Department confirmed to Fox News Digital that the individual is a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office employee and was traveling to China "in a personal capacity."While it is unclear if any other U.S. government officials have been barred from leaving China, a spokesperson for Beijings foreign ministry, Guo Jiakun, told reporters on Tuesday during a press briefing that he had no additional details to share."China upholds the rule of law and handles entry and exit affairs in accordance with the law," he said.In response to Fox News Digital's questions, the State Department said, "The Chinese government has, for many years, imposed exit bans on U.S. citizens and other foreign nationals in China, often without a clear and transparent process for resolution."We track these cases closely, and have raised our concern with Chinese authorities about the well being of our citizens and impact these arbitrary exit bans have on our bilateral relations and urged them to immediately allow impacted U.S. citizens to return home," a spokesperson added. MICROSOFT ENDS USE OF CHINA-BASED COMPUTER ENGINEERS FOR CERTAIN DEFENSE DEPT PROJECTS AMID ESPIONAGE FEARSThe department in November 2024 issued a Level 2 travel advisory for Americans considering travel to China. The advisory issued a warning to "exercise increased caution" due to Beijing's "arbitrary enforcement of local laws, including in relation to exit bans."A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., said they were "not aware of" the case's details, but added, "China always welcomes foreign citizens, including those of the United States, to come to China and guarantees their safety and legitimate rights and interests in China in accordance with the law, including freedom of entry and exit."Meanwhile, foreign citizens in China should also respect and abide by Chinese laws," the spokesperson added. While the Universal Declaration of Human Rightshas enshrined the "right to freedom of movement," which says "everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country," it is not an absolute right, and nations can choose to hold individuals depending on certain conditions, including national security concerns. It is unclear why the Commerce Department employee has been blocked from returning to the U.S. where his wife also lives, though he was apparently questioned by Chinese intelligence authorities about his prior military service.Reporting has suggested that dozens of Americans have been barred from leaving China, including Wells Fargo Managing Director Chenyue Mao.Mao is the latest business executive to be barred from leaving China, which has become increasingly common in recent years, prompting Wells Fargo to suspend all travel to China earlier this month. The Wells Fargo banker has reportedly been blocked from leaving China over her alleged link to a criminal investigation. How long she will be required to stay in China remains unclear.Neither the Commerce Department nor Wells Fargo immediately responded to Fox News Digitals questions regarding this report.

New TSA program launched to eliminate double screenings for international flights
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will begin implementing its new "One Stop Security" program (OSS) on Tuesday, Fox News Digital has learned. The congressionally authorized pilot program allows passengers arriving in the U.S. from international airports with connecting flights to bypass TSA rescreening. (See the video at the top of this article.)Major U.S. airline carriers American Airlines and Delta Air Lines have partnered with TSA to launch the program from Londons Heathrow International Airport.NEARLY 20-YEAR SHOE-OFF AIRPORT SECURITY POLICY IS ENDED BY TRUMP ADMINISTRATIONAmerican Airlines led the way with the first flight to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Friday.Delta Air Lines will launch its one-stop flight arriving at Atlantas Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport by the end of July, according to TSA.TSA Deputy Administrator Adam Stahl, based in Washington, D.C., told Fox News Digital on Tuesday there will be more foreign airports added to the program in the month ahead."It really is a commonsense security approach for us to streamline security from abroad to the United States," said Stahl. "It really underscores and piggybacks onto the president's and the administration's golden age of travel."For more Lifestyle articles, visit foxnews.com/lifestyleStahl said TSA is carefully monitoring the OSS program by looking at improvements in the "turn time of the airport" and is expecting significant connecting time reduction. He said there are "no impacts to security.""We conduct rigorous threat screening and monitoring and just security assessments for that last point of departure airport, that foreign airport that's interested and eligible to make sure that there's a commensurate level of security."When asked what the airline checkpoint process will look like for Americans in the next three years, Stahl said he expects it to be fully automated from curb to gate."We really are envisioning a fully frictionless process, one that's fully automated, that's tech-enabled, that is as seamless as possible," he said.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER"We are going to do everything we can," he said. "[Secretary Noem] is going to do everything we can to bring in side-by-side partners, the private sector, public sector, airlines, airports and other stakeholders to really create an American travel and transportation security system that every single American is proud of."The new policy comes as the U.S. prepares to streamline large events taking place across the country, such as the America250 events, the Olympics and the FIFAWorld Cupmatches.Earlier this month, Department of Homeland Security Sec. Kristi Noem announced the immediate end of the shoe-off requirement at TSA security checkpoints at every airport nationwide."In those 20 years since that policy was put in place, our security technology has changed dramatically. It's evolved. TSA has changed," she said at the presser.Stahl reiterated Sec. Noems comments that TSA is looking into ending the longstanding liquid rule about carry-ons."We're aggressively looking at every element of the checkpoint, every element of security at large."While Stahl shared he cannot get into threat assessments and risk posture, he said TSA is "working aggressively every single day" to determine how to best optimize travel for the American taxpayer.TSA is also implementing a "Families on the Fly" program giving certain benefits to families, such as dedicated family lanes at select airports and discounted PreCheck fees.

Maine's Dem governor laughs off questions when confronted about alleged past cocaine use
FIRST ON FOX: Maine Democrat Gov. Janet Mills laughed off and ignored questions about her alleged past cocaine use when confronted in a video obtained by Fox News Digital."Janet Mills, did cocaine give you the courage to stand up to President Trump at the governor's breakfast?" Mills was asked earlier this month when confronted during a tour of Brodis Blueberries in Maine. The questioner was referring to a National Governors Association (NGA) meeting at the White House in February where Mills and Trump publicly sparred over biological men playing in women's sports.Last month, Fox News Digital exclusive reporting revealed the Department of Justice contradicted Mills' decades-old claim that the investigation over her alleged cocaine use was politically motivated.SEN TUBERVILLE RIPS 'COMPLETE IDIOT' JANET MILLS AS MAINE CONTINUES TO DEFY TRUMP'S TRANSGENDER ATHLETE ORDERAfter Mills seemingly laughed at the question and kept walking, she was asked a follow-up question."Have you ever been under the influence while making critical decisions for the state of Maine?"Mills continued walking and declined to answer that question as well.Fox News Digital reached out to Mills' office for comment but did not immediately receive a response. In early 1990, the U.S. Attorneys Office (USAO) in Maine, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Maines Bureau of Intergovernmental Drug Enforcement (BIDE) investigated Mills, then a sitting district attorney in Maine, after a drug suspect accused her of using cocaine. The investigation was eventually dropped without charges being filed. Mills has maintained that the investigation never had any merit and that she was politically targeted for her Democratic affiliation and criticism of BIDE. In 1990, she and two other district attorneys in Maine criticized BIDE for inflating arrest numbers through excessive enforcement of low-level drug offenders.BONDI SLAMS MAINE GOV FOR BRUSHING OFF TRANS ATHLETE ISSUE"It's scary," Mills told the Portland Press Herald in November 1991. "Maine apparently has a secret police force at work that can ruin the reputation of any who opposes it."A March 1995 memorandum from the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Professional Responsibility (DOJ/OPR), addressed to the deputy attorney general Merrick Garland was serving as the principal associate deputy attorney general and unearthed by Fox News Digital, refutes Mills' claim. It revealed that there was no misconduct by federal or state authorities investigating her case.According to the DOJ memo, WCSH-TV reported in December 1990 that Mills was being investigated by a federal grand jury for drug use, citing law enforcement sources. Mills later sued that reporter for libel and slander. The report also prompted Mills' attorney to demand a grand jury investigation, arguing that "the press received leaks from BIDE law enforcement officials."The results of the libel and slander suit are no longer available. The docket for the case showed that the records were disposed of in 2015 in accordance with policy. However, a 1991 Lewiston Sun-Journal article appears to state that the effort to "end drug probe rumors" was thrown out by a judge.Earlier this month, Mills was confronted in Washington, D.C., about her alleged cocaine use, Fox News Digital exclusively reported, in an exchange where she said, "What the f---?" when asked if "sniffing cocaine at work" is a "human right."Longtime Republican Sen. Susan Collins is up for re-election in 2026, and with Mills' governorship term limited next year, she would be a competitive Democratic candidate to challenge Collins.Mills indicated in April that she did not "plan to run for another office," but admitted that "things change week to week, month to month," leaving the door open to a potential Senate bid.

American man from Oklahoma 'brutally executed' by Syrian-backed jihadis
Syrian jihadists reportedly executed a 35-year-old Syrian American a member of the religious minority Druze community last week as government-backed forces viciously attacked members of the Druze community in the country. The State Department confirmed on Tuesday to Fox News Digital that an American, who has been identified as Hosam Saraya from Oklahoma, was killed in Syria. A State Department spokesperson said, "Time and time again, Secretary Rubio has emphasized the importance of prioritizing the safety and security of U.S. citizens. We can confirm the death of a U.S. citizen in the Sweida region of Syria last week. We offer condolences to the family on their loss and are providing consular assistance to them."Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla, wrote on X, "Hosam was an Oklahoman and member of the Druze community who was tragically executed alongside other members of his family in Syria. We are praying for his family, friends, and the entire community as they grieve this senseless loss."WHY SYRIA PLAYS A KEY ROLE IN TRUMPS PLANS FOR MIDDLE EAST PEACESen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla, wrote on X that an "American citizen from Oklahoma" was "brutally executed alongside his family members in Syria," adding, "Im working with partners in the region to learn more, and were in touch with @GovStitt on this devastating situation. Our prayers are with the family at this time."President Ahmed Al-Sharaa had reportedly taken the side of the jihadi-influenced Bedouin tribes who executed Druze residents in southern Syria, declaring they carried out "heroic actions."Al-Sharaa, who used a nom de guerre "Abu Mohammed al-Golani," was on the FBIs Most Wanted List from 2013 through 2024 for his role in terrorism. Critics accuse al-Sharaa of seeking to violently repress the struggling ethnic and religious minority populations in Syria Christians, Druze, and Kruds.Last week Israel launched military strikes against the jihadi forces on their way to the southern city of Sweida, where there is a large Druze population, to stop the massacre. Israel also attacked the Syrian Defense headquarters in Damascus to halt the bloodshed in Sweida. An Israel Defense Force spokesman told Fox News Digital during a Zoom call that it "learned its lesson" from the Hamas invasion of the Jewish state in 2023 and has two goals in southern Syria: border security and the rescue of Syrian Druze. The bulk of the worlds Druze community lives in Syria. There are also sizable Druze populations in Israel and Lebanon.WHO ARE THE DRUZE? RELIGIOUS GROUP AIDS SYRIAN MEMBERS UNDER ISLAMIST ATTACK, ISRAELI MEMBERS OFFER SUPPORTArizona GOP Congressman Abe Hamadeh, who is of Druze background, told Fox News Digital, "The barbaric violence against the Druze community in Syria must end immediately. Under the bold leadership of President Donald J. Trump, Secretary Rubio, and Ambassador Barrack, the United States took bold steps to ease sanctions and extend goodwill to the Syrian government and its people in the hope of seeing real reforms."Hamadeh, whose mother is from Sweida, added, "Now is the time for the Syrian government to turn their words into real actions, if they want to maintain legitimacy: restore order, protect all of its citizens, and demonstrate a genuine commitment to peace and long-term stability. The only way is to build a new Syria that is reflective of its ethnic and religious mosaic. The United States wants Syria to succeed, but bloodshed, senseless violence, and division is not the path forward."The Arizona congressman said, "My staff and I are engaged in interagency efforts to ascertain what is, and is not, happening on the ground in Syria amid the fog of this conflict. We will not rest until all American remains and victims are returned. Justice and accountability must be served. We are praying for the victims and for peace."Al-Sharaas rule since he toppled the pro-Iran regime of Bashar al-Assad in December has experienced massacres of Alawites, Christian and Druze. Critics argue that Al-Sharaa refuses to rope in the jihadi forces who seek to impose a Taliban-style rule on Syria. After Al-Sharaas forces executed Syrian Christians in March, Rev. Johnnie Moore, the president of the Congress of Christian Leaders, told Fox News Digital: "This is a warning that the Syrian government is not ready for prime time if it cant protect a handful of vulnerable Christians who had absolutely nothing to do with this violence except beingitsvictims,"The death toll involving the clashes between Sunni Bedouin tribes and Druze fighters, which includes government forces and Israel, topped 1,000, according to the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).Washington helped implement a fragile ceasefire. SOHR noted, "Reaching an agreement including ceasefire and sponsored by Washington coincided with threats to keep Syria on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, in case that the agreements terms were violated."

GOP posts Coldplay meme to troll Delaware Dems' green energy scheme
Delaware Republicans borrowed the now-viral "Coldplay concert affair" meme to criticize the states Democratic majority amid legislative momentum for offshore wind projects in the First State. The Delaware GOPs meme inserted "Delaware Democrats" for former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron, who was caught with his HR executive Kristen Cabot; represented in the repurposed meme by wind power interests. The meme included an inset allegedly denoting donations from US Wind through US Wind, the Baltimore-based iteration of an Italian wind energy firm to campaigns of several top Democrats.Fox News Digital reached out for comment from the lawmakers mentioned, including Delaware Lt. Gov. Kyle Evans Gay, Delaware House Speaker Melissa Minor-Brown, D-Delaware City, and Senate Leader David Sokola, D-Newark.GOP LAWMAKER TORCHES OFFSHORE WIND PROJECTS AS MD MAYOR RIPS STAR WARS BACKDROPSWithin the last few weeks, Delaware has taken steps toward developing wind energy offshore of its iconic beaches. Most Republicans in the legislature represent the two lower, beachfront counties of Kent and Sussex, while Democrats have a plurality in the more suburban New Castle County to the north, which includes former President Joe Bidens home city of Wilmington.Last month, the State Senate approved a resolution to overturn Sussexs local decision to reject a wind energy permit application for US Wind, according to WHYY.The county had originally balked at a plan to repurpose a coal-fired power plant in Dagsboro as a wind substation. The project seeks to connect the plant west of Bethany Beach to a proposed wind power installation off a State Seashore fishing area north of the popular beach town, according to the report.Sussex State Sen. Bryan Pettyjohn told WHYY the move constituted outside people telling the county, "you dont know what youre doing, and we know better than you."CLIMATE CULT ON NOTICE AS LAWMAKERS PUSH TO LET FEDS HOP BLUE-STATE ROADBLOCKS TO US ENERGY DOMINANCE'That resolution was put forward by Democratic state Sen. Stephanie Hansen, in New Castle County. In December, US Wind announced that Dover had approved three permit applications to connect offshore wind power to the electrical grid in Delaware. CEO Jeff Grybowski said in a statement at the time that it was an "important step forward" and that stakeholders sought feedback from the public."We are thrilled to have secured these final approvals to move forward on delivering massive amounts of clean energy to the region," Grybowski said."Offshore wind will help lower electricity bills for the people of Delaware, satisfy the regions critical need for more electricity, and improve air quality across the state, all while supporting good local jobs."Fox News Digital reached out to the US Wind for comment on its inclusion in the meme.In its waning days, the Biden administration approved a major offshore wind project called "Maryland Offshore Wind Project COP" that would sit off both states coastlines.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPDelaware Republicans have seen additional support for their overall opposition, including several residents who spoke at a 2022 symposium in Fenwick Island just across the line from Ocean City, Maryland.Regional car dealer Geoff Pohanka was recorded as saying each state must evaluate which energy sources meet demands and that such sources must be reliable."Wind energy is not reliable since wind speed does not usually match with energy demand. Costs are also a factor, in that wind power costs 400%+ more than other sources of power, including wind power on land and solar energy," Pohanka said, according to the town of Fenwick Islands records."The State of Delaware has not opposed the actions taken by Maryland to permit as many as 200 wind turbines off the Delaware coastline."Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan, an Independent, previously criticized offshore wind plans in the area, warning of tourism repercussions and that the Atlantic sunrise would "look like a backdrop from Star Wars."
