Terron Armstead excited to be voice for NFL players dealing with similar injury situation in retirement
Terron Armstead retired from the NFL after 12 seasons with the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins, and he has not spared any details when explaining why now is the right time to step away from the game.It is the first time since he was 5 years old, a total of 28 years, that he will not be playing for a football team this fall. However, Armstead shared some grueling injury stories that led the offensive tackle to hang up his cleats. Why did the 33-year-old share his personal injury journey? Now on the outside looking in, he wants to be the voice for players going through similar situations in the NFL today.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"Now that Im done, I would like to start sharing more of my stories because theres players that are actively playing who are dealing with similar situations," he told Fox News Digital at Fanatics Fest on Friday."So, I want to be a voice for them and allow the fans to know that they cant necessarily speak on their injury. Because you never want to have those built-in excuses before a game, like, I lost on this play because of my knee. You know what I mean? Never want to have that."NFL PRO BOWLER SHARES DEVASTATING TOLL INJURIES TOOK ON CAREER: 'LITERALLY COULDN'T WALK'For NFL fans, it sometimes gets lost in the heat of competition and highlight-reel plays how much of a toll the 17-game-plus season can take on a players body, especially a lineman like Armstead. Years of training and competing on the gridiron takes its toll, and Armstead said his ailment was a knee injury he constantly had to battle through since his third year in the league."I didnt see a practice field at all, and not because I didnt want to or the Dolphins just wanted me to rest. Its like I literally couldnt walk," he said during an appearance on the"Nightcap Show.""After a game on Sunday, I wouldnt be able to walk on my own, under my own power, until Wednesday, Thursday. So, I was only able to play under the pain meds. I couldnt put any pressure on my knee, so it was like, I cant keep doing that to myself."So, no, Armstead is not going to be one of those retirees who will get the urge to get back on the field come Week 1."I think Im done, Im at peace with it. Im excited to be on this side to talk about the game, share my knowledge and experience."After being in the game for so long, and playing football for so long since five years old, its definitely bittersweet. Its my first year without it after 28 years, so Ill see what this life is going to be like without football. Im so grateful and appreciative for it, but Im excited for my future."While he may be off the sidelines, Armstead still wants to make an impact on the game he loves dearly, especially for those players who continue to put their bodies on the line each year to hunt for a Super Bowl title alongside their teammates.Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X, and subscribe tothe Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Ordinary ancient Romans ate 'luxury' meat at fast-food shops, new research reveals
Newly published research is providing a fascinating glimpse into how ancient Romans enjoyed their fast food shedding more light on life in antiquity. In a recent journal article entitled "Urban Consumption of Thrushes in the Early Roman City of Pollentia, Mallorca," researcher Alejandro Valenzuela discovered previously unknown information about how Romans consumed thrushes, a type of small bird.Until now, it was assumed that thrushes were a delicacy, reserved only for the rich. But Valenzuela found that these birds were actually consumed by the masses.ARCHAEOLOGISTS UNCOVER HIDDEN CHRISTIAN CHURCH WITHIN ANCIENT ROMAN BATHHOUSEThe proof, Valenzuela said, was found in a first-century cesspit in Mallorca, Spain, where the bones of multiple species of animals were found. The pit was once connected to a fast-food shop called a taberna.Valenzuela, a researcher at the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies in Mallorca, spoke with Fox News Digital about his findings."The key takeaway is that thrushes, once considered a luxury delicacy reserved for the Roman elite, were actually part of the everyday foodscape in cities like Pollentia," the antiquity expert revealed."This challenges long-held assumptions and highlights how archaeological evidence especially from refuse contexts like cesspits can give us direct insight into daily life, food habits and economic strategies of ordinary people in the ancient world."ARCHAEOLOGISTS UNEARTH ANCIENT BREAD THAT SURVIVED UNDERGROUND FOR 5,000 YEARSAt the Pollentia site, archaeologists also found the remains of pigs, sheep, goat, fish and shellfish showing how varied the Roman diet was."These spaces likely served stews, small fried or grilled meats, legumes and wine meals convenient for those without kitchens at home," Valenzuela said.In terms of cooking methods used, Valenzuela said thrushes were likely pan-fried instead of grilled, according to the evidence at the site."Frying in oil was a common Roman technique for small birds, especially in urban food settings where speed and simplicity were key," he said.Archaeologists also found that thrushes' skeletons were missing large, meatier bones like femurs and humeri. For more Lifestyle articles, visit foxnews.com/lifestyle"The presence of fragmented sterna supports the idea that the birds were flattened to allow for quick cooking," he posited.Ancient Romans likely enjoyed these meats with vinegar, herbs, spices and a fermented fish sauce called garum, according to Valenzuela."Small birds could be served on skewers or simple ceramic plates," he said. The expert added, "The fact that thrushes were sold in bundles of 10, as per Diocletian's Price Edict, also suggests they were prepared in quantity, likely for immediate consumption by hand or on simple serving ware."He said establishments like tabernae and popinae primarily served working-class urban populations, offering quick and affordable meals. The classicist also stressed that Roman cooking was highly resourceful and, unlike American fast food today, urban vendors served most parts of the animal."In Pollentia, pig remains dominate the assemblage, and the presence of cranial and foot bones suggests that less-valued parts were also processed and consumed, likely as broths or stews," Valenzuela said.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER"That said, prime cuts were always more valuable and may have been sold separately or used in specific dishes."What did these small thrushes taste like? Valenzuela said the flavor isn't exactly like chicken."Their taste is more comparable to other small game birds like quail or woodcock," he said. "Lean, slightly gamey and rich, especially when pan-fried or roasted."Though archaeologists only discovered animal bones at the Pollentia site, some excavators have been lucky enough to find preserved Roman food.Last year, archaeologists announced the discovery of the world's oldest bottle of wine in an ancient Roman burial site in southern Spain.

The unintended consequences of Hamass war on Israel for the US and global security
JERUSALEM Deceased Hamas terrorist leader Yahya Sinwar envisioned that his invasion of Israel on Oct. 7, 2023 would prompt his allies Hezbollah and all the Iran-backed proxies to launch a full-scale war against Americas key Middle East ally, Israel. The long-stated goal of the troika of terrorist regimes Hamas, Iran and Hezbollah was the end of the Jewish state. What Sinwar dreamed about on October 7, however, has turned into a series of devastating unintended consequences for Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Hezbollah inLebanon and the regime's "Axis of Resistance."TRUMP ADDRESSES NATION ON 'SPECTACULAR MILITARY SUCCESS' OF US STRIKES ON IRANIAN NUCLEAR FACILITIESPresident Donald Trumps decision to attack Irans core nuclear facilities on Saturday was perhaps the most telling example of Sinwars plan being turned upside down.A leading Israeli security expert from the Israel Alma Research and Education Center, Sarit Zehavi, told Fox News Digital, "In general, if you talk about the October 7 effect, this is truly a huge change in the Middle East."The running list of setbacks for the enemies of America and Israel starts with the degradation of Hamas in 2024.Israel executed a James Bond-style operation on July 31, 2024, resulting in the elimination of Ismail Haniyeh in Iran, the Palestinian terrorist who oversaw the Hamas Political Bureau. Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who is currently hiding in a bunker, pledged retaliation. In October 2024, Israel killed Hamas Gaza-based leader Sinwar. Just last month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his countrys forces had eliminated Sinwars brother, Mohammed, a key terrorist responsible for the construction of the massive terror tunnel system on Israels south border.TRUMP PROMISES TO RESPOND WITH 'FULL STRENGTH AND MIGHT' OF US MILITARY IF IRAN ATTACKS AMERICAThe Israel Defense Forces' (IDF's) targeted killing of Hezbollahs leader, Hassan Nasrallah, in September 2024 was part and parcel of the Jewish state's successful campaign to decapitate the leadership of the terrorist group in Beirut.Just days before Nasrallahs demise, Israels foreign intelligence agency, Mossad, activated a hack attack that caused explosions of handheld pagers carried by thousands of members of Hezbollah. In December, Fox News Digital exclusively reported on Hezbollahs secret plan to invade Israel.Israels decimation of a significant part of Hezbollah seems to have generated deterrence. Hezbollah has not entered the current full-blown war between Israel and Irans regime. Tehran expected Hezbollahs intervention in a war with the Jewish state.ISRAEL SAYS IT KILLED IRAN'S 'SENIOR-MOST MILITARY OFFICIAL'Zehavi said while Sinwar perhaps made a tactical decision to invade, she cautioned about giving too much credit to Sinwar. She noted Mohammed Said Izadil, who Israel reportedly eliminated on Saturday and who oversaw the Palestinian affairs branch in the Quds Force, the branch of IransIslamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, was "deeply involved" in the planning of the invasion on October 7. Zehavi noted that documents found by the IDF in Gaza revealed that Izadil knew in advance about Hamas intent to invade Israel on October 7.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPZehavi, who is an IDF lieutenant colonel (Res.), said, "It is too soon to tell where those changes will lead us" in the Middle East. The first effect of October 7, she said about the enemies of Israel and the U.S. in the Middle East, is, "Israel can no longer tolerate monsters who threaten its very existence. We are eliminating those monsters one after the other, with the support of the United States, which is also very important." She warned, however, that the open question is, will the terrorist regimes and organizations recover?"

Pakistan flip flops on Trump Nobel Peace Prize nomination after less than 24 hours
Pakistan condemned President Donald Trump for bombing Iranian nuclear facilities, less than 24 hours after saying he deserved a Nobel Peace Prize for defusing a recent crisis with India. The Pakistani government on Saturday credited the "decisive diplomatic intervention" and "pivotal leadership" of Trump in brokering a truce with India, after a massacre of tourists in Indian-controlled Kashmir in April,. The nuclear-armed rivals stepped closer to war in the weeks that followed, attacking each other until intense diplomatic efforts, led by the U.S., resulted in a truce. The next day, however, it condemned the U.S. for attacking Iran, saying the strikes "constituted a serious violation of international law" and the statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency.Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a phone call Sunday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, expressed his concern that the bombings had targeted facilities that were under the safeguards of the IAEA, the Associated Press reported. Pakistan has close ties with Iran and supports its attacks on Israel, saying it has the right to self-defense.TRUMP HINTS AT REGIME CHANGE IN IRAN WHILE DECLARING 'MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN' AFTER US STRIKESMushahid Hussain, a former chair of the Senate Defense Committee in Pakistans parliament, suggested to Reuters last week that Pakistan benefited from currying favor with Trump.RUSSIAN LEADER CLAIMS MULTIPLE COUNTRIES PREPPED TO PROVIDE IRAN NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOLLOWING US STRIKES"Trump is good for Pakistan," he told Reuters. "If this panders to Trumps ego, so be it. All the European leaders have been sucking up to him big time."There was no immediate comment on Monday from Islamabad about the Trump Nobel recommendation, which also followed a high-profile White House lunch meeting between the president and Pakistans powerful army chief, Asim Munir.Thursdays meeting, which lasted more than two hours, was also attended by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Special Representative for Middle Eastern Affairs.According to a Pakistani military statement, a detailed exchange of views took place on the "prevailing tensions between Iran and Israel, with both leaders emphasizing the importance of the resolution of the conflict."Trump, meanwhile, was supposed to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G-7 summit in Canada. Trump returned to Washington early for a Situation Room meeting on the Israel-Iran war.A week before Trump announced the U.S. strikes on three key Iranian nuclear facilities, the president said in a social media post that Israel and Iran should and will make a deal, "just like I got India and Pakistan to make, in that case by using TRADE with the United States to bring reason, cohesion, and sanity into the talks with two excellent leaders who were able to quickly make a decision and STOP!"An Israeli official previously made the distinction to Fox News Digital, however, that the goal of the Ayatollah and the Muslim Brotherhood is not trade with the United States, but rather the "destruction" of America and Israel. The same official advocated for a regime change in Iran something Trump said is not the objective of the United States.Trump on Friday had lamented on TRUTH Social that he would not get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the war between India and Pakistan, the war between Serbia and Kosovo or for "keeping Peace between Egypt and Ethiopia.""No, I wont get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do, including Russia/Ukraine, and Israel/Iran, whatever those outcomes may be, but the people know, and thats all that matters to me!" Trump said. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Irans Fordow nuclear site struck second time as IDF targets access routes
Irans nuclear site at Fordow was hit again on Monday as Israel unleashed strikes on roads leading to the underground facility following a massive U.S. attack over the weekend.Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it carried out the attack earlier Monday to disrupt access routes to Fordow, one of Irans key enrichment sites.Iranian state TV had earlier said the site at Fordow sustained a second attack following the U.S. strike over the weekend, though its report did not provide information on any damage or who launched the attack. The latest strike on Fordow comes as the IDF said Israel also launched a series of strikes targeting several Iranian military command centers in an "ongoing effort to degrade the Iranian regimes military capabilities." Meanwhile, Iran has been firing missiles into Israel in retaliation following the U.S. strike.ISRAEL-IRAN CONFLICT: LIVE UPDATESThe U.S. launched a surprise strike using B-2 stealth bombers and submarines onIrans Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear facilities on Saturday. The underground site at Fordow required the use of sophisticated bunker-buster bombs.Rafael Mariano Grossi, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said Fordow is expected to have sustained significant damage from the U.S. strike."Given the explosive payload utilized and the extreme vibration-sensitive nature of centrifuges, very significant damage is expected to have occurred," Grossi said in Vienna.EXPERTS CONFIDENT IRAN'S NUCLEAR PROGRAM IS NO LONGER AFTER MASSIVE US STRIKEGen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters during a Pentagon briefing Sunday that while all three Iranian nuclear sites targeted in the strike "sustained extremely severe damage and destruction," the full battle damage would take time to assess.Fordow was pictured in satellite images on Sunday showing from a bird's-eye view that the U.S. strike had obliterated some structures at the site. In satellite images taken days earlier, trucks and vehicles can be seen at the Fordow site. The IAEA has said off-site radiation levels have not increased following the strikes on threenuclear sites in Iran.It remained unclear as of Monday whether any enriched nuclear material was destroyed in the U.S. strikes or if Iran had moved the material beforehand.Fordow is built into the side of a mountain near the city of Qom, about 60 miles southwest of Tehran.Fox News Yonat Friling and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

White House office tells agencies to apply 'Gold Standard Science' to depoliticize research, restore trust
EXCLUSIVE: The White House Office of Science and Technology on Monday directed federal agencies to implement "gold standard science" principles to depoliticize science and restore public trust, Fox News Digital has learned.White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Director Michael Kratsios sent guidance to federal research agencies Monday morning, incorporating President Donald Trump's executive order on "Restoring Gold Standard Science."FOX NEWS POLITICS NEWSLETTER: TRUMP SETS THE 'GOLD STANDARD' FOR SCIENCEFox News Digital exclusively obtained the guidance sent to federal agencies.President Trump, in May, signed an executive order to restore "Gold Standard Science" as the cornerstone of federal scientific research."Gold Standard Science" is "reproducible, transparent and falsifiable," according to the order. It is also "subject to unbiased peer review; clear about errors and uncertainties; skeptical of assumptions; collaborative and interdisciplinary; accepting of negative results as positive outcomes; and free from conflicts of interest."The executive order reinstated "the scientific integrity policies" of the first Trump administration and "ensures that science is no longer manipulated or misused to justify political ends.""President Trumps Gold Standard Science EO will transform the conduct and management of federal science, from research design to public communication, in order to strengthen scientific inquiry, rebuild public trust, and ensure the U.S. continues to be the global leader in rigorous, evidence-based science,"Kratsios told Fox News Digital."But federal agencies are only one part of our nations research ecosystem."Kratsios added, "American universities, scientific journals, industry and philanthropic leaders all have a crucial role in improving the overall quality of research, and we encourage this executive action to serve as a model for the entire scientific enterprise."Kratsios sent the memo to federal agencies Monday morning to provide guidance to federal departments and agencies on implementing gold standard science "in the conduct and management of all aspects of their scientific activities, from research design to public communication.""By adopting these standards, agencies will strengthen scientific inquiry, rebuild public trust, and ensure the United States continues as the global leader in rigorous, evidence-based science," the memo states.Kratsios said that "Gold Standard Science" represents a "commitment to the highest standards of scientific integrity, defined by nine core tenets: reproducible; transparent; communicative of error and uncertainty; collaborative and interdisciplinary; skeptical of its findings and assumptions; structured for falsifiability of hypotheses; subject to unbiased peer review; accepting of negative results as positive outcomes; and without conflicts of interest.""These tenets ensure that federally-supported research and research used in federal decision-making is transparent, rigorous, and impactful, enabling federal decisions to be informed by the most credible, reliable, and impartial scientific evidence available," Kratsios wrote in the guidance. But "Gold Standard Science" is not limited to science, Kratsios said, saying that it is critical for tackling complex challenges in energy innovation and national security as well."In an age of rapid technological progress and heightened public scrutiny, federally-funded and federally-performed science, and its use in Federal decision-making, must be beyond reproach," he wrote. As for conducting science "without conflicts of interest," Kratsios said it is imperative to ensure that "research is designed, executed, reviewed, and reported free from financial, personal, or institutional influences that could bias outcomes or undermine objectivity.""This approach is important for generating trustworthy and credible new knowledge, as it upholds scientific integrity, fosters public confidence, and ensures that results reflect evidence rather than external agendas," the memo states. "Maintaining freedom from conflicts of interest requires researchers, reviewers, and managers to disclose all relevant affiliations, funding sources, and relationships relevant to the science conducted, adhering to stringent ethical standards supported by strong institutional oversight, transparent reporting systems, and independent expert review mechanisms."CHINA'S AI INNOVATION IS 'ACCELERATING' BUT US REMAINS DOMINANT, WHITE HOUSE SAYSKratsios said agencies must "prioritize conducting and managing scientific research free from conflicts of interest to advance unbiased science," and must "require disclosure of all relevant conflicts of interest by researchers, reviewers, and agency officials involved in the funding or performance of Federal research.""These efforts include requiring comprehensive, standardized disclosure of all financial, personal, or institutional interests in research proposals, publications, peer and merit reviews, and data repositories, with clear and standardized protocols to identify, mitigate, and manage potential biases," the memo states. "Agencies should mandate the use of independent oversight approaches and enforce strict conflict-of-interest policies."Agencies have 60 days to outline "Gold Standard Science" implementation plans, including plans for training and resources to ensure agency personnel understand the new policy, and the use of artificial intelligence-driven tools when practical. After Trump signed the May executive order to restore gold standard science, a senior White House official said there had been a decline in "disruptive research" and investments in biomedical research, along with "serious cases" of fraud and misconduct and the inability to reproduce scientific methods for the purpose of restoring public trust. The official also blamed policy responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and "woke DEI initiatives" for endangering the publics trust in government scientists.Now-retired National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci was repeatedly denounced for flip-flopping and obfuscating during his time engineering the federal response to COVID-19, leading many, particularly on the right, to disregard and dismiss the legitimacy of federal health authorities outright. That order cites the fact the Biden administration included political edits from teachers' unions in school-reopening guidance, instead of leading with any scientific evidence.Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital in April, Kratsios echoed Trump, saying the U.S. is in the "golden age" and that this special moment in time is "underpinned by unbelievable science and technology."

American travelers should know escape routes at transit hubs after Iran strikes, security expert warns
After the U.S. airstrikes crippled Iranian nuclear sites on Saturday night, a travel security expert said it is imperative for Americans to have a plan to escape to safety in the event of an attack on a travel hub.Robert McDonald was a Secret Service agent for more than 20 years and is an expert in executive protection, intelligence and protective travel logistics. During that time, he coordinated security for U.S. and foreign dignitary visits. Now, he is a professor of criminal justice at the University of New Haven."There are those type of areas where people are coming and going. People are transient. Lots of people go there every day," he told Fox News Digital in reference to airports and bus and train stations. "Anything can happen at any time. Again, you've just got to be able to be cognizant of your surroundings, be situationally aware and be able to get yourself out of a situation if something was to happen."OPEN BORDERS UNDER BIDEN COULD HELP IRAN RETALIATE WITH US TERROR SLEEPER CELLS: FORMER FBI BOSS"We don't wish anything to happen, but you just got to be able to get yourself out of a particular zone relatively quick," he said. The same principle applies to any crowded place, both indoors and out, McDonald said. Being "situationally aware" includes being on the lookout for anything that seems out of place in day-to-day life. He clarified that "out of place" is different for everyone."For example, if you go to a mall or Times Square and you see a backpack lying on the corner with nobody around it, or it hasn't moved in a while, you might want to report that," he said.NYPD RAMPS UP SECURITY AT JEWISH SITES ACROSS NYC AFTER ISRAELI STRIKES ON IRAN"If there are particular cars in and around your neighborhood that are not normally there, it could be nothing," McDonald said. "It could be a visitor to your neighbor, but it could be something out of the ordinary that you would want to potentially report."With regard to reporting suspicious activity, McDonald assured Americans that law enforcement entities want to be tipped off to anything suspicious, even if it turns out there is no threat."Authorities want to hear from you and want to be able to investigate things that are out of the ordinary," he said. "You may be the only person that's noticing that something is out of the ordinary, and we have a responsibility to pass that information forward to authorities. Let them come and decide that the issue is a non-issue, right."AMERICANS VULNERABLE TO CYBERATTACKS, LONE WOLF THREATS IN WAKE OF IRANIAN AIRSTRIKES: FORMER FBI AGENTSince Saturday's bombings in Iran, a leading state sponsor of Islamic terrorism, major metropolitan areas including New York, Los Angeles, Washington and Miami have stepped up security protocols.Fox News contributor Paul Mauro, a former NYPD inspector who monitored terror cells, told Fox News Digital that police are upping patrols, particularly at relevant religious sites, and also monitoring for online chatter from potential terror threats."[NYPD] will put out special attention patrol cars at locations that could track to the conflict in places that have an Israeli connection, and there's a couple of Shia mosques Iran is Shia and there are a couple of Shia mosques," Mauro told Fox News Digital. "You never know what's going to develop. So [they'll] liaise with those communities. They'll talk to them, they'll put special patrol, special attention patrol.""You're going to look very closely online," he said. "You're going to be monitoring a lot of the online stuff. NYPD has a very robust cyber counterterrorism program, and you're going to do that very heavily."
