Illinois is projected to spend $2.5 billion on migrants with most of it pouring into healthcare costs, according to a new report.The Illinois Public Policy Institute, which is a watchdog think tank that tracks public policy decisions in the state, released a report on Monday that compiled all the costs that were funneled to supporting migrants that flooded the state.Of the $2.5 billion, the Illinois Public Policy Institute added that taxpayer funding was allocated to healthcare as well as "migrant welcome centers, housing, emergency food, resettlement services and rental assistance." The report added that Illinois has allocated $478 million since 2023 for "migrant benefits" through the Welcoming with Dignity initiative.The report explained further that the Illinois state government spent over $1.6 billion on two programs that cover health care costs for migrants, citing a report from the Office of the Auditor General.CHICAGO MAYOR CALLS ICE RAIDS TERRORISM, SAYS TRUMPS AMERICA APPEARS AS 'IF THE CONFEDERACY WON'According to the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, one of the programs,Health Benefits for Immigrant Adults, which served individuals aged 42-64, was cut due to "budgetary constraints," ending the program on July 1st. The other program that serves seniors will continue.The audit found that the programs ended up costing significantly more than projected costs."Originally, it was estimated the senior program would cost $224 million. Auditors found actual expenditures were 84% higher than expected at $412.3 million," the report stated."In 2023 alone, total costs outpaced expected spending by over $400 million, enough money to shelter Illinoisentire homeless population for ayear."The report comes afterGov. J.B. The four suspects are from Honduras.DHS is offering a $10,000 rewardfor information leading to their arrests.ICE OFFICERS ASSAULTED DURING RAID THAT NABBED 70 ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTSBautista-Reyes illegally entered the U.S. in 2021 under the Biden administration and was arrested by the Wayne Township, New Jersey, Police Department on May 3 for aggravated assault, attempt to cause bodily injury, terroristic threats, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.Sandoval-Lopez illegally entered the U.S. as a minor in 2019 and was arrested by the Passaic Police Department in October for unlawful possession of a handgun and again on February 15 for aggravated assault.Castaneda-Lozada entered the U.S. illegally in 2022 and was arrested by the Hammonton Police Department on May 15 for burglary, theft and conspiracy to commit burglary.SUSPECTS STILL ON THE RUN:Pineda-Mogollon entered the U.S. in 2023 and overstayed his tourist visa. For Devers, this season has seen tension grow between the front office and himself, especially after the signing of Gold Glove third baseman Alex Bregman.During spring training, Devers made it clear he wasnt giving up his third baseman position for the newcomer Bregman despite the latter being the better defensive player. After conversations with GM Craig Breslow and manager Alex Cora, Devers changed his tune.But another situation came up when Triston Casas, the teams starting first baseman, suffered a season-ending injury in a game against the Minnesota Twins. Devers, who had been the teams designated hitter, was speculated to be the guy to take over there.Devers, though, told the Red Sox back in May that he wont be playing first base either. Cora recently said, "Hes my DH," in reference to Devers, but noted that doesnt mean he wont play the infield this season. At the same time, Bregman has been injured, but the Red Sox called up top prospect Marcelo Meyer to fill that void. Romy Gonzalez, who has been hitting well especially against left-handed pitching, assumed first base duties when Casas went down.Perhaps Devers publicly refusing to help his team out at different positions played a role in the team wanting to move on. But "La Carita" has been enjoying quite the season as a full-time DH.Devers is hitting .272/.401/.905 with 15 homers and 58 RBI over 73 games this season. Hes also a lot more patient at the plate, leading MLB with 58 walks. The highest mark in that category for his career was last season with 67 over 138 games.With the Giants, it will be interesting to see what the team wishes to do with Devers, as another Gold Glover, Matt Chapman, is stationed at third base.As for the Red Soxs return for Devers, Hicks has not had the best start to the 2025 season, owning a 6.47 ERA over 13 games (nine starts) where he has 43 strikeouts to 20 walks. The 28-year-old has played for the St. Louis Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays as well.Harrison currently owns the same ERA (4.56) this season as he did all of 2024.
