JONATHAN TURLEY: Biden not the only loser revealed by shocking Hur audio
"For posterity's sake."Those words from President Joe Biden sum up the crushing impact of the leaked audiotapes from the interview between him and Special Counsel Robert Hur. Not only did they remove any doubt over Biden committing federal crimes, but they also constituted what is akin to a political racketeering indictment against much of the Washington establishment, from the White House staff to Democratic politicians to the media. The interview, conducted from Oct. 8-9, 2023, has long been sought by Congress, but was kept under wraps by Biden's Justice Department even as Biden campaigned for a second term.BIDEN REPEATEDLY SAYS I DONT REMEMBER' REGARDING CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS IN NEWLY RELEASED HUR INTERVIEW AUDIOMany of us balked at the conclusion of Hur that no charges were appropriate despite the fact that the president had removed classified documents for decades, stored them in grossly negligent ways, and moved them around to unsecure locations, including his garage in Delaware.Given President Donald Trump's indictment for the same offenses, it was hard to imagine how the special counsel could not recommend the same criminal charges (presumably after he left office).Instead, Hur declared it would have been hard to get a jury to convict Biden because he was "a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory."It appears that Trump, on the other hand, was presumptively not sympathetic or well-meaning and possessed a good enough memory to face prosecution. The contrast was glaring and only reinforced the view of many citizens that there are two tracks for justice in Washington.Soon after the report's release, Biden gave an irate press conference at which he lied about the findings of his culpability and lashed out at any suggestion that he had gapped or stumbled in the interview. For example, when reporters raised Hur's assertion that Biden had forgotten when his son Beau died, Biden angrily responded, "How in the hell dare he raise that?" Frankly, when I was asked the question, I thought to myself it wasnt any of their damn business."However, it was not Hur but Biden himself who raised the death of his son, and he forgot a wide array of dates, including when he served in office. The interview shows that in 2023 it was clear that Biden was mentally diminished despite claims from many allies and former aides that there was a sudden loss of capacity just before the disastrous debate in 2024.It is now undeniable that the White House staff actively hid the president's incompetence from the American public. That includes the White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki (who left her post in May 2022) and her successor, Karine Jean-Pierre, who insisted that Biden was sharp and "running circles" around the staff.Of course, the media is now covering the story after the public saw the truth in the debate. Figures like CNN's Jake Tapper have even written books that belatedly pursue the question despite previously insisting that there was no evidence of a diminishment in Biden's mental state.Tapper repeatedly dismissed the claim and even excoriated Lara Trump for raising it. In one interview, he pushed a White House talking point that such suggestions were mocking Biden for a childhood stutter."It's so amazing to me- a cognitive decline," he told the president's daughter-in-law. "I think you were mocking his stutter. Yeah. I think you were mocking his stutter and I think you have absolutely no standing to diagnose somebody's cognitive decline. I would think somebody in the Trump family would be more sensitive to people who do not have medical licenses diagnosing politicians from afar."When Lara Trump insisted that this was clearly evidence of a "very concerning" cognitive decline, Tapper dismissed her statement by saying, "Thank you, Lara. I'm sure it's from a place of concern. We all believe that."Keep in mind that others beyond Lara Trump were raising this issue and there were tapes showing obvious physical and mental decline. The media simply refused to seriously pursue the story until the cover-up no longer mattered after the debate.Over on MSNBC, Joe Scarborough was equally apoplectic at those raising the issue and stated"Start your tape right now because Im about to tell you the truth. And eff you if you cant handle the truth. This version of Biden intellectually, analytically, is the best Biden ever. Not a close second. And I have known him for yearsIf it werent the truth, I wouldnt say itThis media effort continued all the way up the debate itself. On CNN.com,Oliver Darcy wrote "Right-wing media figures are desperately pushing conspiracy theories about Biden ahead of the debate."Once the public found out, the media was ready to tell the story when it became impossible, and no longer politically beneficial, to deny it. Articles began to appear with the same realization of, "Oh you meant THAT mental decline. Well sure."It was the same belated acknowledgment that came, after the election, with Hunter Biden's laptop. The media just moved on with a shrug and a collective "our bad" concession. As for the then-president himself, the one moment of clarity in the interview may have been his most incriminating line. When asked why he removed classified material on Afghanistan, Biden admitted "I guess I wanted to hang on to it for posterity's sake."CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONThat is precisely what critics on CNN and MSNBC accused Trump of doing: removing material as types of keepsakes or trophies. One president was indicted for that and one was sent along his way to pursue a second term in office. The real indictment that comes out of these tapes is a type of political racketeering enterprise by the Washington establishment. It took a total team effort from Democratic politicians to the White House staff to the media to hide the fact that the president of the United States was mentally diminished. It there were a political RICO crime, half of Washington would be frog marched to the nearest federal courthouse.Of course, none of this complicity in the cover-up is an actual crime. It is part of the Washington racket. After all, this is Washington where such duplicity results not in plea deals but book deals.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM JONATHAN TURLEY

HHS SEC ROBERT F KENNEDY JR: American patients pay more so others can pay less that stops now
President Donald Trump's bold executive order on drug pricing isn't just policyit's a revolution in healthcare affordability. The plan is simple yet transformative: ensure Americans pay no more for medications than citizens of other wealthy nations.Consider this stark reality: a GLP-1 drug costing $88 in London commands $1,000 in the United States. Even after manufacturer discounts to insurers, Americans still pay over $400for the identical medication, from the same company, produced in the same facility. This disparity is especially galling when pharmaceutical companies extract 70% of their profits from Americaa nation representing just 4% of the world's population. This global free-riding on American patients ends now.Industry leaders recognize this imbalance. I've already engaged with CEOs from four major American pharmaceutical companies and a foreign manufacturer eager to relocate to the U.S. Their response has been encouraging, but we're prepared to act decisively if necessary. U.S. Health and Human Services and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) possess the statutory authority to deliver on President Trumps commitment: other developed nations must pay more, so Americans can pay less, thus preserving the innovation pipeline.PRESIDENT TRUMP TAKES ON 'BIG PHARMA' BY SIGNING EXECUTIVE ORDER TO LOWER DRUG PRICESAmericans deserve both groundbreaking therapies and affordable access to them. Yet according to the Kaiser Family Foundation, nearly one-third of patients skip prescribed medications due to costan unacceptable reality in the world's wealthiest nation. While prevention through healthier lifestyles remains our best strategy for reducing medication dependence, certain treatments will always be essential. The pharmaceutical industry has delivered remarkable advancements in cancer and autoimmune therapies that benefit patients worldwide.CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONWe value continued innovation as a core American principle, but we cannot indefinitely subsidize global medical progress while other wealthy nations contribute disproportionately little.President Trump's negotiation approach has already proven effective with NATO, where European countries responded to accountability by making historic reinvestments that strengthened the alliance. The same principle applies here. The President and I stand united: global free riding on American patients must end.CMS, with Dr. Mehmet Oz at the helm, extends beyond payment reform to fundamentally realigning care delivery incentives. This initiative will protect safety nets for vulnerable populations while addressing the financial pressures facing state partners and federal programsparticularly Medicaid, which has seen dramatic growth in both enrollment and costs. The coming months will be decisive in achieving President Trump's prescription for a healthier Americaone where innovation thrives, and patients no longer shoulder an unfair share of the global healthcare burden.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM ROBERT F. James Carville dismisses Democratic Party's record-low polling: 'We're winning elections'
Despite a flurry of polling so far this year indicating the Democratic Party's favorability sinking to record lows, veteran Democratic strategist and pundit James Carville remains optimistic, as he points to recent ballot box victories by his party."You can't discount people winning elections," Carville told Fox News Digital this week.Carville spoke the day after a new survey from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research was the latest to spell trouble for the Democratic Party, six months after they suffered setbacks up and down the ballot at the hands of now-President Donald Trump and Republicans. The Democratic Party has been in the political wilderness since last November's elections, when Republicans won back control of the White House and the Senate and defended their fragile House majority. And Republicans made gains among Black and Hispanic voters as well as younger voters, all traditional members of the Democratic Party's base.ON THE RISE: NEW POLL INDICATES TRUMP'S APPROVAL RATINGS EDGING UPAccording to the survey, only about one-third of Democrats are very or somewhat optimistic about the future of the Democratic Party. That's a steep decline from last July, when around six in 10 Democrats said they were optimistic. The survey, conducted May 1-5, points to an increase in optimism among Republicans, with 55% more optimistic about the future of the GOP, up from 47% last summer.HEAD HERE FOR THE LATEST FOX NEWS POLLINGSince Trump's return to power earlier this year, an increasingly energized base of Democrats is urging party leaders to take a stronger stand in pushing back against the president's sweeping and controversial agenda during the opening months of his second administration. And their anger is directed not only at Republicans, but also at Democrats they feel aren't vocal enough in their opposition to Trump. And that's fueled the plunge in the Democratic Party's favorable ratings, which have hit historic lows in several recent surveys. The Democrats' ratings stood underwater in the most recent Fox News national poll at 41% favorable and 56% unfavorable in a survey conducted April 18-21.That's an all-time low for the Democrats in Fox News polling. And for the first time in a decade, the party's standing was lower than that of the GOP, which stood at 44% favorable and 54% unfavorable. The figures were reversed last summer, when Fox News last asked the party favorability question in one of its surveys. The Democratic Party's favorable ratings were well in negative territory in a Pew Research national survey 38% favorable, 60% unfavorable conducted in early April and at 36% favorable, 60% unfavorable in a Wall Street Journal poll in the field a couple of weeks earlier. And national polls conducted in February by Quinnipiac University and in March by CNN and by NBC News also indicated the favorable ratings for the Democratic Party sinking to all-time lows.Confidence in the Democratic Party's congressional leadership sunk to an all-time low, according to a Gallup poll conducted early last month. The confidence rating for Democrats' leadership in Congress stood at 25% in the survey, which was nine points below the previous low of 34% recorded in 2023.And the semi-annual Harvard Youth Poll, which was released late last month, indicated that approval ratings for Democrats in Congress among Americans aged 18-29 nosedived."I dont doubt any of thats true," Carville told Fox News. "But theres one thing: Were winning elections left and right as were talking about how the Democratic number or image is low."John Ewing, Jr., a Democrat, this week ousted a longtime Republican mayor in Omaha, Nebraska, a blue dot in a reliably red state. Ewing will become Omaha's first Black mayor.Last month, the Democrat-aligned candidate comfortably defeated the Republican-aligned candidate in a Wisconsin state Supreme Court election. The high-profile and expensive campaign grabbed plenty of national attention and outside money.Democrats have also performed very well so far this year in special elections, including flipping red state Senate seats in Iowa and Pennsylvania. In addition to looking back, Carville also pointed ahead to November's gubernatorial election in Virginia, where Democrats hope to win back the governor's office in Richmond."Let's see what's going to happen in Virginia," said Carville, who first grabbed national attention for his work as a lead strategist on former President Bill Clinton's successful 1992 presidential campaign. And Carville predicted that "were going to win that."

Ancient bedrock kitchens reveal evidence of historical food practices, experts say
Ancient stone structures on the West Coast are helping experts understand more about historic food practices, according to groundbreaking scientific research. In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, University of Utah anthropologists Lisbeth Louderback and Stefania Wilks spoke about their research in southern Oregon, which was published in February in the journal American Antiquity. (See the video at the top of this article.)The experts have been analyzing stone metates or bedrocks with grinding surfaces to learn more about how ancient people ate.SIMPLE WAYS TO INCREASE FIBER IN YOUR DIET AND WHY IT'S SO IMPORTANTLouderback, an associate professor and curator of archeology at the Natural History Museum of Utah, told Fox News Digital that Native Americans in the Northern Great Basin would process geophytes on metates by using manos, or handheld stones.Geophytes is a term that describes plants with underground storage organs, but they're far from obscure. The group includes potatoes, carrots, ginger and onions. So the researchers got to work and did starch granule analyses on several different metates from three different sites in southern Oregon."Sure enough, we found very good evidence of geophyte processing on these bedrock metates," Louderback said.FIRST BOTTLE OF 'WHISKY' MATURED IN CASKS SUBMERGED IN LOCH NESS SELLS FOR OVER $1,000Notably, the two experts searched the cracks and crevices of bedrock metates, which yielded many more samples than the rock surfaces."Virtually no starch granules were on the cleaning surface, but hundreds of starch granules were observed in those cracks and crevices deep down," Louderback said.Because of the open-air surfaces on the stones, it is nearly impossible to date the granules' ages, the professor said. But they are undoubtedly old."It could be as old as Late Pleistocene [126,000 to 11,700 years ago], but the evidence we found could also be as young as 500 years ago," Louderback said."So we don't know what the antiquity of this geophyte processing is on these features, but we definitely found evidence of geophyte processing, as well as processing of other plants, wild grasses and things like that as well."What did this ancient food look like?Graduate student Stefania Wilks told Fox News Digital that most of the granules were biscuitroot, which is in the wild carrot family.1,000-YEAR-OLD FOOD STORAGE PIT DISCOVERED IN ALASKA"They're starchy. They get flowery. They were very important to the people living there when the Europeans came," she said."The European explorers relied on the resources that the Native peoples were able to share with them and included these geophytes," Wilks added. "In this region, in the Northern Great Basin in general, geophytes were very, very important."Images of people grinding maize into flour may come to mind, but the environment of the Northern Great Basin differs from the southwest. Instead of corn, people relied on biscuitroot and Wilks said that the root vegetable is still eaten today."These geophytes, [like] biscuitroot and bitterroot they're still being eaten today, largely for ceremonial gatherings.""It's not like they go out every day and harvest them," Wilks said. "There's only certain seasons when you can actually harvest them very well or very tastily. But yes, they're still accessible today. They're still useful."For more Lifestyle articles, visit foxnews.com/lifestyleShe added, "Their nutritional analysis says they're very, very high-ranked food sources. So it's nice to get this longevity, this information that these were important plants in the past. And they're important plants today."Geophyte tissues don't tend to last very long in the archaeological record, unlike seeds, she said."The starch granule evidence was needed to even be able to say that these milling surfaces were used for these plants," Wilks said. How did ancient people eat biscuitroot? They could have ground them into flour, pounded them or just eaten them plain.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER"Not all geophytes necessarily have to get pounded," Wilks told Fox News Digital. "Think of an onion. Wild onions you can just pick them and eat them."She continued, "You don't really need to even do anything with them. So it's just more of what we can see ethnographically. In modern ethno-historic records, we know that they were pounding and processing and grinding and patting them into cakes."Wilks emphasized the research has helped history come to life, with the starch granules proving how the tools were used back in ancient times."We were able to see these starch granules embedded within these tools," Wilks said."Because without this evidence, it's always been inferred that this processing of these geophytes was going on. We didn't know."Fox News Digital's Kyle Schmidbauer contributed reporting.

Top former Democratic counsel urges party to reject 'cultural leftism' after electoral losses
A former top Democratic legal adviser is calling on his party to move away from progressive policies, warning that the current approach is costing Democrats both voter trust and electoral success.Julian Epstein, former chief counsel for the House Judiciary Committee, said on Fox News Radios "Brian Kilmeade Show" that the Democratic Partys embrace of progressive ideology is damaging its credibility on both economic and cultural issues."[They] cannot divorce themselves from a discredited ideology which is progressive ideology, which has been a failure economically," Epstein said. "Look at the states, look at the state of California. And its a failure culturally. People just dont believe in cultural leftism."Epstein said the issue runs deep within the party, and even its leadership struggles to navigate the internal divide between moderate and progressive factions. He pointed to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer as a figure caught in the middle.FOUR MONTHS INTO TRUMP'S SECOND TERM, DEMOCRATS REMAIN DEEPLY PESSIMISTIC ABOUT THEIR PARTY"The Democrats just seem to be wandering in the wilderness without any real answer," Epstein said. "They [Democratic leaders] dont have the guts to stand up to the groups and say, We have to moderate and do what Bill Clinton did in the 1990s and go to the political center."According to Epstein, Democratic leaders are hesitant to push back on the partys more radical wing out of fear of backlash, particularly from online activists.TRUMP SAYS 'THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG' WITH TOP DEMOCRAT HE'S KNOWN 'A LONG TIME'"The internet has been weaponized," he said. "They are scared of the flying monkeys of the internet who will call them bad names if they dont do certain things or if they do certain things like cooperate with Trump a couple months ago on the shutdown."Earlier this year, Sen. Schumer faced heavy criticism after backing a Republican bill to prevent a government shutdown. Though Schumer disagreed with aspects of the House-passed stopgap spending bill, he supported it to avoid what he called a political "gift" to former President Donald Trump.PROGRESSIVE LEADER SAYS SCHUMER FACES 'UPHILL' CLIMB TO WIN BACK DEMOCRATS' TRUSTThe move drew backlash from progressive commentators. "The reality here is there was no message, no strategy, and, at the end of the day, no leadership," said former Democratic Rep. Donna Edwards, now an MSNBC analyst. "This is really a black mark, I think, on Chuck Schumer."DEMOCRATS ARE OUT OF STEP WITH THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, FORMER CLINTON ADVISOR SAYSThe criticism sparked speculation that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez might challenge Schumer for his Senate seat. When asked about those rumors, Schumer downplayed them."Thats a long time away," he told The New York Times, responding to reports that some Democratic lawmakers have privately encouraged Ocasio-Cortez to consider a Senate run.Meanwhile, Schumers popularity in New York has slipped. An April poll by Siena College found that only 39% of New York voters view him favorably, where AOC, the multi-term congresswoman from New York City and a prominent progressive voice, got a 47% favorable mark.
