WWW.FOXNEWS.COMPork roll sandwich controversy in NJ: What to know about beloved breakfast meat from Garden StateWhen gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill recently dismissed New Jersey's beloved pork roll as "gross," she fired up the Garden State's griddle."Who eats pork roll? I think that's gross," Sherill jokingly said during an appearance on the "Zach Sang Show" podcast. "I've had this fight multiple times. Nobody wants pork roll."The Virginia-born Democrat's offhand remark, made during a casual conversation that caught the attention of Republican rival Jack Ciattarelli and went viral on social media, reignited one of New Jersey's oldest cultural battles: the pork roll versus Taylor ham war.PASTRAMI QUEEN UNITES DELI LOVERS WITH 'MEAT UPS' ACROSS AMERICA"I think it was a very short-sighted remark," New York City chef Michael Brafman said, sharing his opinion.Brafman spent years cooking in New Jersey before opening The Sandwich Board on Manhattan's Lower East Side.Pork roll or Taylor ham, depending on which side of the Raritan River you're on is New Jersey's signature breakfast meat.Invented in the 1850s by Trenton businessman John Taylor, it's a smoky, salty processed pork product fried, sliced and slapped onto an egg and cheese sandwich, according to the website Eater."I tell people it's like a smoked salami sliced thin and usually grilled into sandwiches," Brafman said. "In lieu of sliced ham on an egg sandwich, people will get a Taylor ham."WHATEVER HAPPENED TO OLIVE LOAF, THE NOSTALGIC 1970S DELI MEAT THAT AMERICA ABANDONED?And, yes, there's a proper way to prepare it, Brafman said."It's got to have the snip in it, so it doesn't curl when you cook it."In New York City, bacon, egg and cheese is the breakfast sandwich of choice. But across the Hudson River, it's pork roll country."Bacon, egg and cheese is the bacon, egg and cheese of New York City," Brafman said. "Pork roll, egg and cheese is the bacon, egg and cheese of New Jersey."At Brafman's former New Jersey shop, it was non-negotiable."It was 100% a staple of the menu," Brafman told Fox News Digital. "We sold more pork roll than we sold bacon."Pork roll is so popular in New Jersey there's even an annual festival celebrating the meat in Trenton, about 60 miles southwest of the city.MORE FROM FOX NEWS LIFESTYLEBut the state is split about what to call it."My understanding is that northern New Jerseyans call it pork roll and southern New Jerseyans call it Taylor ham," Brafman said. The sandwich shop owner said he understands why it's so beloved, regardless of the name."It's a great pork product," he said. "It's lightly spiced. It tastes great."Brafman said he loves pork roll because he grew up eating salami and eggs."There's room for all of it," he said. "It doesn't need to be so polarizing."CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTERNow that his New York shop has been open for a year, Brafman said he plans to introduce pork roll as a breakfast special."I know there are tons of people in New York [who] know what it is," he said."Either way, it's just an awesome egg sandwich."0 Comments 0 Shares 39 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMFrom Oct 7 captivity to freedom: President Trump saved me and I believe he can free the remaining hostagesTwo years ago, on Oct. 7, 2023, I was kidnapped from my home in Kibbutz Be'eri in my pajamas by Hamas terrorists. My wife, Raz, and I were ripped from our lives and dragged into Gaza. I was released in February 2025 after 491 days in captivity, but 48 hostages remain in Hamas' hands. My nightmare is not over. It won't be over until they all come home. And now, finally, there is hope. President Donald Trump has brought forth a historic deal to bring all 48 hostages home the living and the deceased to end this war, to end this suffering for our people. After so much pain, we finally have a real chance. But with that hope comes fear. We have seen opportunities collapse before. The deal has not been signed yet. I know what is at stake. I know what those hostages are enduring right now because I lived it.FREED AMERICAN-ISRAELI HOSTAGE DETAILS STARVATION AND ABUSE BY HAMAS AS FAMILIES PUSH TRUMP FOR DEALTwo years have passed since Hamas terrorists invaded our homes, murdered hundreds of innocent people, and kidnapped men, women, children and the elderly. That Shabbat morning started like any other. By the end of the day, Raz and I were hostages. When Raz was released in November 2023, I thought maybe my turn would come soon. Instead, I was taken to the tunnels 30 meters underground, in total darkness, with no air, barely any food or water, no medical care. This became my life for over a year.I wasn't alone down there. I was held with five other hostages: Elkana Bohbot, Maksym Harkin, Segev Kalfon, Yosef Ohana, and Bar Kupershtein. They became like sons to me, and I became a father figure to them. We needed each other to survive. The six of us shared a cell meant for three. We dug with our bare hands in the dirt to make places to sleep. Every request from our captors required hours of discussion among ourselves because the consequences were severe. Ask for pita bread and get refused? They would beat us. Forbid us from asking for anything for two weeks. So we deliberated carefully, everyone had a voice, and we voted.I was afraid for my life every single day. Hamas told us clearly: if the IDF gets close, they will shoot us at point-blank range. Once, a terrorist forced me to decide which hostages would get a bullet in the head and which in the knee. For hours, they made us beg for our lives, shaking and crying. On day 270, terrorists stormed in and beat us for three days straight. One guard told me, "I hate you. If they order me to kill you, I won't use a gun. I'll use a knife." As time passed, we started to lose hope. That's when survival becomes almost impossible. What gave me strength was seeing our people back home fighting for us.CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONI was released in February 2025. I had lost 77 pounds. In those first days of freedom, everything felt unreal. But one moment stands out: I had the profound honor of meeting President Trump, the man who saved me, who made it possible for me to be reunited with my wife and daughters. He expressed his unwavering commitment to bring all the hostages home. I thank him for my freedom and for never giving up on those still in captivity. If anyone deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, it is him, for everything he has done for us and for continuing to fight to make sure all the hostages come back home. But freedom doesn't mean the nightmare is over. I still wake up at night and touch the walls, checking that they're not concrete, that I'm not in the tunnels. But then I remember they are still there. When I open the refrigerator and take out food, I think about how they have nothing. In a cruel propaganda video released by Hamas months ago, Elkana and Yosef spoke directly to me, begging me to do everything I can to get them out of hell. Until all 48 hostages come out the living and the deceased I cannot continue with my life.SIGN UP FOR ANTISEMITISM EXPOSED NEWSLETTERSince my release, I have witnessed many negotiations come and go. This time it must happen. The world must make sure this deal comes to fruition. I know better than anyone the cost of every additional day in captivity. They won't make it in there for much longer. My friends won't make it there for much longer. I lived through 491 days of Hamas' cruelty. I know exactly what every additional hour means for those still underground. The release of all 48 hostages must come first. The world is watching. Every day matters. Every hour counts.0 Comments 0 Shares 39 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMTexas Christian University student vows to restore Christian values on campus with TPUSAThe president of the Turning Point USA chapter at Texas Christian University told Fox News Digital that she wanted to lead the organization to bring Christian values back to a campus where it is rare to come by."This chapter has been around for about seven years and I became president last year," Annie Cellar said.Cellar, a senior working toward a BS in Mathematics and BFA in Dance, said she was very motivated to push for her beliefs and values on campus."Especially at Texas Christian University, where not a lot of Christian beliefs are well portrayed or advocated for," she said. "I know with Turning Point USAit is a conservative values-supportive organization, but at the end of the day, I just want as many people to be wakened up to the truth as possible and ultimately get to know Jesus, and so, I just went whatever way that I can best glorify God with my life and use Turning Point as a way to do that to help people see the Lord. This is all I could ask for."TCU DENIES ANTI-CHRISTIAN DISCRIMINATION CLAIM LEVELED BY CHLOE COLE AFTER DUST-UP OVER TURNING POINT EVENTTCU, a private school, faced claims that they abandoned Christian values after stopping on-campus baptisms. Tarrant County GOP leader Bo Frenchman, an alumnus of TCU, told Fox News Digital."I mean TCU student ministry they wanted to do baptisms on campus in a two-foot deep inflatable baby pool. And the committed Marxist that runs the risk management division at TCU said, no, that was too dangerous. We can't do that," Frenchman said.TCU officials pushed back on these claims."For health and safety reasons, baptisms cannot be accommodated in campus fountains or other bodies of water. However, TCU partners with churches adjacent to campus so that baptisms can take place in a safe, appropriate environment," an university official said.TCU DISPUTES CLAIMS IT CANCELED TURNING POINT EVENT WITH DE-TRANSITIONEREver since TPUSA co-founder Charlie Kirk was assassinated Sept. 10 during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, the organization has grown and received massive support. After Kirk's massive memorial service on Sept. 13, TPUSA announced that it has received more than 120,000 inquiries from people wanting to start new campus chapters."We have seen a lot of growth. We've had hundreds of people join our Turning Point chapter in the last few weeks, which is incredible," Cellar said. She added that TPUSA's tabling activity has been more active as more people have approached to ask questions than in past years."I would say tabling on campus has definitely been a lot more active a lot of people coming up asking questionshaving some good conversations, but also dealing with a little bit of anger at times, and we do have the police department helping us out when we are tabling they're keeping an eye on us, which we are super grateful for."FLORIDA VOWS LEGAL ACTION AGAINST ANY EFFORTS TO BLOCK TPUSA CHAPTERS ON CAMPUSLast month, Cellar had a dust up with TCU over an event featuring activist Chloe Cole to discuss her journey detransitioning, which led to the event being moved to another venue due to logistical issues. The event was planned for Oct. 7 with Cole being a featured speaker, but the university did not have the space available to support the number of people that was projected to attend the event. The logistical challenge communicated by the university prompted Cole to speak out, accusing the university of anti-Christian discrimination by intentionally making more difficult the process of approving events led by faith-based organizations. However, TCU flatly denied the notion that it engages in anti-Christian discrimination. The TCU spokesperson told Fox News Digital that "faith-based student organizations face no additional obstacles to hosting an event at TCU." They pointed to a memorial for Kirk that was held on campus on Sept. 18."For the date of Oct. 7, no venue was available for an event open to the public for up to a thousand people, which has since been publicized 2,000.Alternatives and other options were explored and offered to accommodate the request for this date, and we remain open to finding a suitable venue on an available date," a TCU spokesperson said.Although Cellar agreed with Cole about there being obstacles when faith-based organizations try to host events, she is optimistic about working with the university in the future. The next events the TCU-TPUSA chapter is hosting will feature Pete Chambers, a candidate for the upcoming Texas gubernatorial election, and actress Leigh-Allyn Baker, best known for "Will & Grace.""Last week, TCU approved it right away with no further questions, and they approved it immediately, so that kind of proves that there was an issue going on. So the fact that they did that we might be headed in the right direction," she said. "We would love to have these opportunities to be able to turn around quickly.""It would be nice if TCU policies could make it happen so that it's not so much of a long process and a lot of work to make opportunities like that not be able to happen on campus," Cellar added.TCU officials sent the following statement to Fox News Digital about faith-based events and pastors wanting to speak on campus."Churches and faith events are a beautiful and important part of our campus life and student experience. There are more than a dozen Christian student organizations on campus, many with pastors and other professional staff that regularly hold worship services, Bible studies and other meetings with our students," the spokesperson said. "For others not affiliated with a student group, they can be invited by our students and are asked to follow our process requiring visiting churches or pastors to be hosted by a campus ministry in collaboration with the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life."0 Comments 0 Shares 40 Views 0 Reviews

I heard the cops came, Cocky motherf-----s, aint they?""And ICE is gonna come bust down your door, try to build a house no one builds no more, but I got a telephone, Kids are all scared and all alone.""The bar stopped bumping, the rock stopped rolling, the middle fingers rising, and it wont stop showing. Got some bad news. The fading of the red, white, and blue," the lyrics state.COUNTRY STAR ZACH BRYAN TEASES NEW SONG 'BAD NEWS' CONDEMNING ICE RAIDS, 'FADING' OF THE RED, WHITE AND BLUECountry music star, John Rich, took to social media to share his opinion on Bryan's latest track. "Nashville is full of guys like this," Rich posted on X.Fox News Digital has reached out to a rep for Bryan for comment. The country musician's politically charged lyrics mark his latest firestorm, following an arrest for obstruction of an investigation and emotional abuse allegations. In September 2023, the "I Remember Everything" singer was arrested for obstruction of investigation after he said he had gotten "too lippy" with a police officer.Bryan explained that he had been driving through Oklahoma to Boston to go see a concert with his security guard in another car. After his security guard was pulled over by an officer behind him, he said he turned around and pulled over near them, eventually getting out of his car for a smoke after waiting for several minutes. He said when the officer told him to get back in his car, he said, "Im not the one who's getting pulled over." Bryan was told again to get back in his car and warned that if he did not, he would be taken to jail.WATCH: Country singer Zach Bryan seen telling cops he's a 'famous musician' in new bodycam footage"Like a dumba--, I'm like Youre going to take me to f---ing jail? What do you mean?'" he continued. After calling his behavior "ridiculous and immature" and saying he "felt like a child," he said, "I just pray everyone knows that I don't think I'mabove the law,I was just being disrespectful and I shouldn't have been, and it was my mistake.""So I'm just getting more angry and angry, which is like the worst thing you can possibly do. So 15 minutes goes by, they finally let me out of the vehicle, and I'm just mouthing off like an idiot, like an actual child. I'm like, Man, someones got to get a hold of you guys, why are you using your authority like this, this is so wrong,' when in reality they were doing their jobs, I was just upset."Bryan continued, "He looks at me and says, Man, look, Im going to tell you this, and don't interrupt me,'" and then admitted that he did interrupt him."So he said, Im going to take you to jail,' and he took me to jail."Bryan and Brianna "Chickenfry" LaPaglia's break-up turned messy in 2024 when she accused him of emotional abuse. In October 2024, hours after Bryan said on his Instagram Story that they had broken up, LaPaglia took to her YouTube page to say she had just woken up to his post and "had no idea" he planned to make their separation public."He didnt text me, he didnt call me," LaPaglia said through tears in the video. "So, Im like completely blindsided by that."In November 2024, she took to her "BFFs Podcast" to detail the alleged emotional abuse she received from the country music star."The last year of my life has been the hardest year of my life dealing with the abuse from this dude. I'm still scared right now because I'm scared of him," she continued. "My brain's rewired and I'm scared to make him mad and last week, I didn't want to talk about it 'cause I was scared," LaPaglia said.Addressing the alleged abuse, she said it was a cycle that would "build you up, beat you down, apologize over and over.""There was always another excuse as to why he was treating me so poorly and why I'm crying myself to sleep every night.""Why he's screaming at me and then you wake up, it's the apology, it's the 'I'm going to be better like I need you in my life,' but if you've been through this I don't expect people to understand emotional abuse if you haven't been through it. I hope you never have to go through it but if you've been there you know what I'm talking about," she said.LaPaglia claimed she was offered $12 million and a New York City apartment to "not talk about the relationship.""It came down to the point of I'm not the people before, and I was someone before you, and you made the women before me believe that they had no other choice than to take money from you, sign theirexperiences away, sign what they went through away," she said at the time. The influencer continued, "You get to go skip off and sing your little f----- songs on stage like you're a good dude. You get to treat people around you like s---. Sorry, I'm not them. I don't want your money; I don't want in two years to buy a f------house and think, 'Oh, this is the money from the dude that literally f----- destroyed me and broke me for a year.'"In September 2024, Bryan was in hot water after he compared Taylor Swift to Kanye West in a now-deleted social media post.At the time, Bryan posted on X, "eagles > chiefs, Kanye > Taylor, who's with me," according to Variety. In the social media post, Bryan appeared to target a few elements in Swifts life including her fianc, Travis Kelce, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs.Swift additionally has a tense history with West, especially after he interrupted her at the 2009 MTV VMAs, and shes been the subject of several of his diss tracks.Following the incident, the country star deactivated his X account and apologized to Swift fans for his tweet."For the record guys I wasnt coming for Taylor the other night," Bryan wrote on top of a screengrab of Swifts song with Post Malone, "Fortnight," on Instagram. "I was drunkenly comparing two records and it came out wrong."The "Heading South" singer acknowledged the longtime feud between Swift and West, as he continued to explain, "I know theres a lot of stuff that clouds around Ye and I was speaking purely musically. I love Taylors music and pray you guys know Im human and tweet stupid things often."Bryan added that he hopes one day to explain to Swift about his controversial social media post. He additionally apologized to Swifties and detailed why he deactivated his X account."Twitter gets me in trouble too much and Id say its best I stay off it," he penned. "Im sorry to any Taylor fans I p---ed off or let down. Love you guys and Im trying my best!"LIKE WHAT YOURE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSHe acknowledged the social media post may have come off "as rude and desensitized to Taylor.""I respect her so much as a musician that the last thing I want is people thinking I dont appreciate and love what she has done for music," Bryan praised Swift.Last month, Gavin Adcock shared a video of Bryan yelling at him from behind a chain-link fence at the Born & Raised Festival, where both musicians were slated to perform along with Parker McCollum and Cody Jinks."You want to fight like a man? Open the gate," Bryan said before slamming his hands against the fence separating the country music stars. The "Pink Skies" singer climbed over the fence and into the venue before being held back by security personnel in another video shared online.Adcock addressed the incident in an Instagram video captioned "Rotten fruit falls on its own," shared in September with his nearly 1 million followers."Well, like I already said, I don't think Zach Bryan's a very good person. He wasn't locked out of the festival," Adcock said in the clip. "He had been there all day with his multiple security guards.""He saw me standing between my buses when he got out here, and saw me walk on my bus when I went to watch the Georgia game, proceeded to go to other artists and ask them, Where is Gavin, wheres Gavin,' and their guests, and treat them like dog s---, flipping them birds and saying, just d----ebag stuff."Adock said Bryan "had plenty of opportunity through the whole day to do whatever he wanted to do, but decided he was going to wait like an hour before my set while I was standing out there."He continued, "No artist that cares about their fans is going to fight right before their set, missing going on and disappointing fans that spent way too much money to be there."The "Deep End" musician said he didn't have "a single reason to fight," and admitted that after Bryan started giving out "threats," he decided "to stir him up to the point where he jumped over the fence.""I don't think anyone's scared of Zach Bryan," Adcock continued. "I'm just an adult, and fighting him would have only meant going to jail, missing my set, and falling into a Zach Bryan lawsuit and we all know he likes to manipulate people with money.""He knew where I was all day, he knew my set time, he knew where I'd be standing, and he created this whole Im bad a--' jump over the fence narrative, just to try to make himself look bigger, tougher even though he could have just walked in the gate he had been in there all day."He added, "And at the end of the day, I know my decision I made was right. I didn't take the Zach Bryan bait, and I'll be praying for him to get better because he sure needs it."In August, Bryan who is a known Philadelphia Eagles fan took to social media to stir up some drama with fellow NFL fans. After the Kansas City Chiefs failed to become the first NFL team to win three consecutive Super Bowls due to their loss to the Eagles earlier this year, Bryan took to X and in a since-deleted post wrote, "Where are all the three peat people from last year:/."Shortly after one fan pointed out that the singer had "singled out one fanbase" which "sells out his shows," the country star made a shocking remark."Please understand I will never play in Kansas City," the musician wrote in a since-deleted post.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTERPeople were quick to point out that Bryan had already played in Kansas City in the past. This post has also been deleted.During a show in Washington last November, Bryan stopped his show after a fan threw an object on stage. As seen in a video shared on Instagram, the country star can be seen walking promptly toward a microphone to seemingly address what had happened before turning around and retrieving the object, now lying on the ground.WATCH: Zach Bryan scolds fan for throwing object on stage during concertBryan walked across the stage to another standing mic, pointing out to the crowd looking for the culprit. However, Bryan then changed his mind, realizing he had one more thing to add."And if you guys do know who threw it, we can get 'em out of here," he said. "If we ever find out who did."0 Comments 0 Shares 38 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMDangerous 'gray-market' weight-loss drugs flooding US as experts warn of risksAs demand for GLP-1 medications continues to skyrocket for weight loss and diabetes, more Americans are skipping pharmacies and turning to unregulated sellers as a way to avoid high prices, insurance barriers and recurring shortages. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has warned that so-called "gray-market" GLP-1s (such as semaglutide or tirzepatide) are not evaluated for safety, quality or efficacy. As they fall outside the legal drug supply chain, these unapproved drugs may be counterfeit, contaminated or improperly compounded, the agency states.WHY MICRODOSING OZEMPIC COULD BECOME AS COMMON AS TAKING A MULTIVITAMINSome are marketed online as "compounded semaglutide" or "research-use only," shipped directly to consumers with little oversight.Recent research published in JAMA Health Forum also warned that some compounded products use unverified chemical forms of semaglutide that differ from FDA-approved versions.Another report this month in The Medicine Maker, a pharmaceutical industry publication, noted that unregulated GLP-1s "could undermine patient confidence" and complicate global drug-safety monitoring.Fox News Digital spoke with Frank Dumont, M.D., medical director at Virta Health in Colorado, who said the rise of gray-market GLP-1s reflects growing desperation to access these medications outside regulated medical channels.'NEXT OZEMPIC' AIMS TO DELIVER 30% WEIGHT LOSS WITH FEWER SIDE EFFECTS"Gray-market medications are versions of prescription medications that are obtained outside of the usual prescription process," Dumont said."The usual safety precautions have been bypassed, in one way or another, and this increases the medical risk of using such a product."Dumont noted that there's a good reason that prescription drugs are tightly regulated, from the FDA approval process to how they are manufactured and prescribed."Without the usual controls, there are a lot of unknowns, and this translates into more risk for you," he warned.COULD GLP-1 WEIGHT-LOSS MEDICATIONS LIKE OZEMPIC BECOME THE 'EVERYTHING DRUG'?While licensed doctors and pharmacies are closely monitored, Dumont noted that "those who are operating outside of licensure are not being monitored for quality and safety. They are flying beneath the radar."Online access has made it "all too easy for an individual looking for a medication such as a GLP-1 to intentionally or unintentionally find questionable sources," he added. The surge in unregulated GLP-1 use is driven by cost, supply issues and social media hype, according to Dumont."Some are trying to find less expensive versions, considering they can cost over $1,000 per month out of pocket if not covered by a prescription plan," he said.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTERDumont also warned that misinformation about "DIY" or compounded semaglutide has made it harder for consumers to separate real science from false claims."It has become increasingly easy to make statements and promises without any accountability," he said. "And the further an entity is away from the legitimate prescription pathways, the less likely they are to be called out for making questionable or false claims."In April 2025, the FDA and Novo Nordisk (maker of Ozempic and Wegovy) announced that counterfeit Ozempic units had been circulating in the U.S. supply chain. The FDA reportedly seized the units for investigation.Regulators have received hundreds of reports of adverse events tied to compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide, including overdosing, severe nausea, dehydration and other complications, per the health agency.Federal and state regulators are ramping up enforcement, with attorneys general from 38 states urging the FDA to crack down on counterfeit distributors, according to a report from the National Association of Attorneys General.Legal experts have warned that even licensed pharmacies could face penalties if they inadvertently handle adulterated or misbranded products. For consumers worried about counterfeit products, Dumonts advice is simple: Stay within the legitimate medical system."Stick with the FDA-approved versions of prescription medications rather than substitutes or compounded versions," he advised.MORE IN HEALTH NEWS"When it comes to the internet, be skeptical. If the promises or the price sound too good to be true, they probably are."Fox News Digital reached out to Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly for comment.0 Comments 0 Shares 46 Views 0 Reviews

His office zeroed in on illegal gun cases involving convicted felons, using a powerful tool Maryland law already provided."In Maryland, if you carry a gun and youre a repeat violent offender, the states attorneys office could invoke a count thats a mandatory minimum, which means that you would go to prison a minimum of five years without the possibility of parole," Bates explained. "Its a minimum mandatory. The previous administration did not invoke those charges, accounts. We did."CHARLOTTE LIGHT-RAIL STABBING MURDER SPURS LANDMARK CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM FROM NORTH CAROLINA REPUBLICANSHe credits this strict enforcement, backed by close collaboration with police and federal prosecutors, with the citys falling murder rate.Bates said that the results speak for themselves. In just two years, his office sent 2,129 repeat violent offenders to prison double the amount under the previous administration."We focused on those individuals that carried illegal handguns they were not allowed to have a gun," Bates said. "Forty percent of that group were victims of murders, but they were also the perpetrators of murders. If they're not here right now in the community, now they cannot be victims of murders and they cannot [be] the murderers."According to data from the Balitmore Police Department, homicides fell 23% by year end of 2024 (201 vs. 261 in 2023) and non-fatal shootings dropped 34% (414 vs. 635). BPD also reported clearance rates above national averages in several categories. The data also showed that through June 30 of 2025, homicides were down 22% (68 vs. 88) and non-fatal shootings down 19% (164 vs. 204). BPD reported a 64% homicide clearance rate and 44% non-fatal shooting clearance rate, plus over 1,300 firearms seized, including 150 ghost guns.City officials emphasize that while murders and shootings are dropping, work remains to reduce other categories of violence and crime."Our continued progress is the direct result of the comprehensive, evidence-based public safety strategy that we have implemented in partnership with residents,"Mayor Brandon M. Scott said in a news release. "While we acknowledge the historic lows we are experiencing, we must simultaneously acknowledge that there is much more work to do, and our success makes me commit even further to doing it."For decades, Bates said that Baltimores justice system had a reputation for leniency, but now, that has changed."There is no magic pill. You just have to really hold people accountable," he explained. "When they know that they will go to jail, their attitudes change greatly."DC POLITICIANS KEPT 'CHOPPING AWAY' AT LAW ENFORCEMENT, PAVING WAY FOR TRUMP TAKEOVER, FORMER FBI AGENT SAYSIn contrast to the past when violent felons could expect probation or dismissal Bates says his office now takes those cases seriously."Prosecutors have to put people in jail who are bad people with guns. We have to understand that. It's just that simple."Bates stressed that reducing crime also requires rehabilitation and economic stability."We want to make sure that while they're incarcerated, they actually have the opportunity GED, job skills and training so that when they come home, they can actually have a job that will pay them a real wage," he said. "If you can't read, you don't have a degree, what are you gonna do?"Beyond tough sentencing, Bates points to structural reforms within his office, as he says they have grown significantly to handle the caseloads."When we came into the office, there were only about 140 prosecutors Now we have 200."He also hopes for additional federal grants to expand even further.Bates underscored that crime reduction isnt a partisan issue."At the end of the day, we're focused on public safety because public safety doesn't know any party. It should always know what's best for the public," Bates said. With murders declining, Bates believes Baltimore can restore public confidence and attract investment back into the city."People have hope we're moving in the right direction especially when it comes to violent crime," he said. "We need more individuals moving to Baltimore and not moving out The number one thing is we have to focus on safety."Bates sees the progress as a model for other cities especially those struggling with soft-on-crime policies."The most important person for fighting crime is your prosecutor If the prosecutor says everybody goes home, then there's turnstile but once you go and show you are not playing, people change their attitude," he said. "When you take the shooters and killers off the street, it's gonna go down."0 Comments 0 Shares 39 Views 0 Reviews

Every other democracy in the world that system pertains."DEVON ARCHER: HUNTER BIDEN, BURISMA EXECS CALLED DC TO GET UKRAINIAN PROSECUTOR FIREDAt the time, Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin was investigating Ukrainian natural gas firm Burisma Holdings. Several months later, in March 2016, Biden successfully pressured Ukraine to remove Shokin. At the time Shokin was investigating Burisma Holdings, Hunter Biden had a highly lucrative role on the board, receiving tens of thousands of dollars per month.Biden, at the time, threatened to withhold $1 billion of critical U.S. aid if Shokin was not fired."I said, Youre not getting the billion.' I looked at them and said, Im leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, youre not getting the money," Biden recalled telling then-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.Biden recollected the conversation during an event for the Council on Foreign Relationsin 2018.But during his first term, President Donald Trump was impeached after a July 2019 phone call in which he pressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to launch investigations into the Biden familys actions and business dealings in Ukraine, specifically Hunter Bidens ventures with Burisma and Joe Bidens successful effort to have former Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin ousted. At the same time as that call, Hunter Biden was under federal investigation, prompted by his suspicious foreign transactions.Trump was acquitted in Feb. 2020 on both articles of impeachment against him abuse of power and obstruction of Congress after being impeached by the House of Representatives in December 2019.Meanwhile, the declassified intelligence report had a "warning," noting that "due to the extreme sensitivity, this report should be distributed only to the renamed recipients.
