WWW.FOXNEWS.COMDemocrat gubernatorial candidates' records for supporting trans athletes in women's sports coming into focusThe New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial elections each feature Democratic candidates with a congressional record of supporting trans athletes in women's sports.Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey and Abigail Spanberger of Virginia have come under scrutiny in recent days for their stances on the subject.Spanberger was the subject of a recent viral interview with ABC13 when she was asked about trans people playing women's and girls' sports and using women's bathrooms. The Democratic candidate did not take a concrete stance.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"So in Virginia, until very recently, we have had a process in place where on an individual, one by one basis, schools, principals, parents, coaches were making decisions based on fairness, competitiveness and safety, where a child might be able or might not be able to play in a particular sport," Spanberger said. When asked if she would support a bill that allows trans people in female bathrooms and sports, Spanberger said, "I would support a bill that would put clear provisions in place that provide a lot of local ability for input, based on the age of children, based on the type of sport, based on competitiveness. Because certainly I recognize, I absolutely recognize."I recognize the concern that families and community members might have about the safety of their own kids, about competitiveness, about fairness. And I think the process that was in place for 10 years was one that was working. It was one that took individual circumstances and individual communities into account, and I think that is the process that Virginia should continue to utilize."Spanberger was a co-sponsor of The Equality Act in 2021, which "prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics," and then in 2023 she voted against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which would have protected female athletes from trans competitors nationally.Meanwhile, Sherill has been the subject of criticism on social media for her congressional voting record on the issue.INSIDE GAVIN NEWSOM'S TRANSGENDER VOLLEYBALL CRISISFormer University of Pennsylvania women's swimmer and women's sports activist Paula Scanlan, the first UPenn swimmer to speak up about the school's Lia Thomas controversy in 2022, called out Sherrill on X over the issue this week.Like Spanberger, Sherrill also co-sponsored the Equality Act, but Sherrill also co-sponsored the Transgender Bill of Rights, which more explicitly "guarantees certain rights for transgender and nonbinary people with respect to public services and accommodations," including sports teams consistent with gender identity.Sherrill also voted against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, twice, when the bill was first proposed in 2023, and again this past February when it was re-introduced.The New Jersey GOP attacked Sherrill for this record directly in a campaign graphic last week.Sherrill's opponent, Republican Jack Ciatterelli, mentioned this issue for Sherrill in a post back in July.Fox News Digital has reached out to both Sherrill's and Spanberger's campaigns requesting clarity on why they voted the way they did on those previous bills, and whether they would enforce President Donald Trump's "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports" executive order as governor of their respective states. Neither campaign has provided a response.Back in January, a New York Times/Ipsos survey found the vast majority of Americans, including a majority of Democrats, don't think transgender athletes should be permitted to compete in women's sports. Of the 2,128 people who participated, 79% said biological males who identify as women should not be allowed to participate in women's sports.Of the 1,025 people who identified as Democrats or leaning Democrat, 67% said transgender athletes should not be allowed to compete with women. Among 1,022 Republicans, that number was 94%.The 81 independents who were interviewed represented the group with the most reluctance to say transgender athletes shouldn't be allowed to compete. Just 64% said they were against it, while 26% refused to answer. Just 3% of the Democrats and 1% of the Republicans refused to answer.Nearly 70% of Americans say biological men should not be permitted to compete in women's sports, according to a Gallup poll last year.Additional data suggests the issue impacted the 2024 election.Anational exit poll conducted by the Concerned Women for America (CWA) legislative action committee found that 70% of moderate voters saw the issue of "Donald Trumps opposition to transgender boys and men playing girls' and womens sports and of transgender boys and men using girls' and womens bathrooms" as important to them. And 6% said it was the most important issue of all, while 44% said it was "very important."Meanwhile, prominent Democratic figures have backpedaled on their party's support for males in women's sports, including Pete Buttigieg, Gavin Newsom and even Kamala Harris. In her recent book "107 Days," Harris wrote that she "agrees" with the concerns of parents and athletes who oppose letting males compete with females."I agree with the concerns expressed by parents and players that we have to take into account biological factors such as muscle mass and unfair student athletic advantage when we determine who plays on which teams, especially in contact sports," Harris wrote.Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X,and subscribe tothe Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 9 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMRoseanne Barr blasts double standard as Jimmy Kimmel returns to late-night show after suspensionRoseanne Barr is not holding back.During a recent interview, the comedian called out the television industrys hypocrisy, especially after late-night host Jimmy Kimmel made his return to his show."It just shows how they think. I got my whole life ruined, no forgiveness, all of my work stolen and called a racist for time and eternity for racially misgendering someone," Barr said on NewsNation. "Its a double standard."JIMMY KIMMEL CANCELLATION SPARKS FIERCE CELEBRITY SPLIT IN HOLLYWOODHer comments come just as "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" returned to ABC, days after the host was suspended over his comments on conservative activist Charlie Kirk.In 2018, Barr faced her own public controversies. At the time, she tweeted about former Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, which triggered ABCs cancellation of her show, "Roseanne."She wrote on Twitter that political figure Jarrett, who is Black, looked like the "Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby."Though Barr deleted the tweet within hours and issued a public apology, ABC wasted no time in cutting ties. The network canceled the "Roseanne" reboot.Channing Dungey, who was ABC Entertainment's president at the time, issued a scathing statement: "Roseannes Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show."JIMMY KIMMEL CHOKES UP AS HE EXPLAINS KIRK COMMENTS, SAYS HE 'NEVER' INTENDED TO MOCK ASSASSINATIONLooking back on her 2018 cancellation, Barr said Kimmel criticized her publicly despite having his own controversial past."He called me a racist even though I said repeatedly, which they repeatedly censored, that it was a mistake," Barr told the outlet. "I thought that the woman was a white woman from Iran."Barr went on to call the controversy a double standard."He called me a racist even though he himself appeared in blackface on their network many times," she added, referencing Kimmels past comedy sketches that resurfaced in 2020.That abrupt shutdown marked a turning point in Barrs career, one she said the network and media have never allowed her to recover from.Barr predicted Kimmels comeback would be met with celebration from fans."I think hell cheer himself on and his fans, all what is it? 2,000 of them. Theyll feel heartened and like they won another battle against Trump and the people of the United States. So, it'll be a big celebration," she told the media outlet."Maybe if he had defended me, maybe this wouldn't have happened."CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTERFox News Digital has reached out to Barr for additional comment. After a nearly weeklong suspension from ABC, the late-night host returned to "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Tuesday night, opening with a somber, 30-minute monologue, walking back the comments that got him pulled off the air."I dont think theres anything funny about it," Kimmel said, tearing up as he addressed the assassination of conservative activist Kirk earlier this month."Nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what was obviously a deeply disturbed individual. That was really the opposite of the point I was trying to make."LIKE WHAT YOURE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSKimmel acknowledged his original remarks may have been a misfire."Felt either ill-timed or unclear or maybe both," he admitted.Kimmel was suspended by Disney Sept. 17 after outrage erupted over his Sept. 15 monologue, in which he took direct aim at conservative media in the wake of Kirks murder."We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them," Kimmel said during the controversial episode. "And doing everything they can to score political points from it."CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPBroadcasting giants Sinclair Broadcast Group and Nexstar Media Group, both of which carry dozens of ABC affiliates, announced they would be preempting Kimmels show due to what they called "ill-timed and insensitive" commentary.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 9 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

They shook hands and Henry pulled out his phone. Vance leaned in for the selfie as the crowd roared. The vice president gave him a quick pat on the back and returned to the microphone.Vance kept the tone easy for a beat and joked that the next request might be a reporter asking for a photo. WWW.FOXNEWS.COMTop House Dem exposes party's strategy to blame Republicans for looming government shutdownThe top House Democrat signaled that his party is readying to blame Republicans as the threat of a government shutdown grows larger by the day.House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., held a news conference on Wednesday where he said Democrats were "ready to get to work, ready to meet with anyone, any time, any place in order to avoid a painful Republican-caused government shutdown."At the same time, he restated that Democrats would not accept a GOP-led plan to keep the government funded at roughly current levels through Nov. 21, dismissing the measure as a "partisan exercise.""Republicans have clearly demonstrated they want to shut the government down throughout this process," Jeffries said. "An intentional decision was made by Republican leadership in the House and the Senate not to have a single conversation with Democrats. They're not even pretending as if they want to find common ground."HOUSE PASSES TRUMP-BACKED PLAN TO AVERT GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWNThe House passed a short-term extension of current federal funding levels, called a continuing resolution (CR), last week. The vote fell largely along party lines, with just one Democrat crossing the aisle in the measure's favor. An effort to consider the bill in the Senate hours later was scuttled when most Democrats, along with two Republicans, opposed a vote to begin debating the measure. Now both parties are blaming one another for a potential shutdown which could hit at midnight on Oct. 1 if a deal is not passed in both chambers by then.Republicans are accusing Democrats of recklessly pushing for a shutdown and making unworkable demands in exchange for keeping the government open."REMINDER: House Republicans have already done the job of passing a clean, bipartisan bill to keep the government open," Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said in a statement on X Wednesday. "Now its up to Senate Democrats - who have long said shutdowns are bad and hurt people - to vote to fund the American government, or shut it down because they want to restore taxpayer-funded benefits to illegal aliens."Republicans have also pointed out that government funding levels have remained relatively steady since fiscal year (FY) 2024, when Democrats supported then-President Joe Biden's spending priorities. But Democrats, infuriated by being sidelined in discussions on the bill, have been pushing for the inclusion of enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies that are set to expire at the end of 2025 without congressional action.Jeffries has also repeatedly made reference to Republicans' "big, beautiful bill," conservative legislation that imposed new restrictions and work requirements on Medicaid coverage for certain able-bodied Americans. He and other Democrats have accused Republicans of ripping healthcare away from millions of people, while the GOP has insisted the system is getting reformed to work better for vulnerable Americans who need it.A short-lived hope for bipartisan discussion was quickly scuttled on Tuesday Jeffries and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., had been expected to meet with President Donald Trump this week to discuss federal funding.Trump called off the meeting, however, accusing Democrats of making "unserious and ridiculous demands" in their push for a compromise deal to avert a shutdown."They must do their job! Otherwise, it will just be another long and brutal slog through their radicalized quicksand. To the Leaders of the Democrat Party, the ball is in your court. I look forward to meeting with you when you become realistic about the things that our Country stands for. DO THE RIGHT THING!" the president said on Truth Social.During his Wednesday news conference, however, Jeffries would not say exactly what he opposed in the bill instead criticizing the process by which it was formed."It's partisan because it didn't have the votes in the House in a bipartisan way. There was no conversation. There was no discussion. There was no effort to actually sit down and figure out what type of spending bill would meet the needs of the American people," Jeffries said.58 HOUSE DEMS VOTE AGAINST RESOLUTION HONORING 'LIFE AND LEGACY' OF CHARLIE KIRK"The notion that we're supposed to accept that this is a clean continuing resolution is a joke. It's not. It's dirty for a wide variety of reasons. I explained it repeatedly, and it continues the assault on the healthcare of the American people."He also argued against the point that Democrats approved those same spending levels last year, noting that a majority of his caucus opposed a bill in March that kept those levels extended through Sept. 30."It's very easy to take a look at the bill in December that was passed with bipartisan margins, and signed into law by then-President Joe Biden, and the bill in March that was jammed down the throats of the American people in a very partisan way and signed into law by Donald Trump," Jeffries said. "Don't accept that idea that it's the Biden spending numbers when the facts say exactly the opposite."Democrats introduced their own CR last week aimed at keeping the government funded through Oct. 31, while also reversing Republicans' Medicaid changes and preventing Trump from making any cuts to funding allocated by Congress both of which were panned as nonstarters by Republicans.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 9 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMUnearthed rage clip puts Dem gubernatorial candidate on defensive amid ICE, Kirk shootingsA resurfaced clip of Virginias Democratic gubernatorial candidate telling supporters to "let your rage fuel you" sparked new backlash from her GOP opponent, amid warnings that such rhetoric is contributing to political violence, from the ICE facility shooting to the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears shared the clip shortly after a gunman opened fire on an ICE facility in Dallas showing Democratic gubernatorial opponent former Rep. Abigail Spanberger offering an adage about "let[ing] your rage fuel you" during a June political event."Rage. Thats what Abigail Spanberger is calling for," Earle-Sears wrote on X."Weve seen it with racist signs, cruel jeers, even cheering a fathers assassination for daring to disagree," she added, appearing to refer to Charlie Kirk.WINSOME EARLE-SEARS REBUKES SPANBERGER PLAN TO UNDO VIRGINIA'S ICE PACT: 'THIS IS NOT HARD'Earlier this month, a protester at an Arlington event who was upset with Earle-Sears opposition to transgender bathroom policies in Washington, D.C., suburbs held up a sign that said if people cannot choose their own bathrooms, Earle-Sears, who is Black, cannot share their water fountains."Im asking for love," Earle-Sears said."Love for our neighbors and our Commonwealth. Because Virginia is for lovers not rage," she added, name-checking the commonwealth's iconic tourism slogan of 56 years.Spanberger, however, suggested her words were taken out of context."Abigail has and will continue to condemn comments that attempt to make light of or justify violence of any kind full stop," a Spanberger spokesperson told Fox News Digital.VIRGINIA LEADERS REBUKE RACIST SIGN TARGETING GOP GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE WINSOME EARLE-SEARS: 'REPULSIVE'"Abigail has a long record of working across party lines and ideologies to get things done, and she will continue to bring people together as Virginias next governor."During the June event, Spanberger closed her speech with a story about once complaining about politics in front of her mother, who responded, "Let your rage fuel you.""And so, Mom, I love you. I thank you for the sage advice. And to the rest of us, every time we hear a new story, we let it fuel us," she said."Every time we turn on the news, we let it fuel us. Every time something bad is happening, we say, Oh thats motivation."Every time something happens in the world, in this country, coming out of Capitol Hill or coming out of this White House, we just say, 'Boy, am I motivated today. We write more postcards, we knock more doors, we make more phone calls, we tell more friends about the importance of this election."After Kirk's murder in Utah, Spanberger said she and her husband, Adam, were praying for his family and the Orem community, adding that "disagreements over policy, perspectives or even worldviews should never lead to violence."0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 9 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMGiants' Brian Daboll talks starting Jaxson Dart over Russell Wilson: 'Its my decision'The New York Giants are not just testing out rookie Jaxson Dart at quarterbackhe is their guy for the remainder of the season.Head coach Brian Daboll told New York media on Wednesday morning that Dart, for whom they traded back into the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft in April, is their intended starting quarterback in place of Russell Wilson not only for this week against the Los Angeles Chargers, but also for the rest of the season.Daboll said he has had conversations with both players, which will be kept private, but they both understood their roles moving forward.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"The conversations that Ive had with these young men will be private. The details will be private. All I can tell you is were going with Jaxson, and were getting ready to play, so Im not going to add too much to it," Daboll said."Its my decision, and were going with Jaxson."GIANTS TO START JAXSON DART IN WEEK 4 VS CHARGERS: REPORTThe move by the Giants comes after a poor performance by Wilson in the teams third straight loss, this time a 22-9 defeat to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. While the Giants poor start is not all on Wilson, Daboll and his coaching staff saw enough across three games, including Wilsons 450-yard performance in Dallas, to make the move to Dart. The Ole Miss product had backed up Wilson, the 36-year-old signal caller, through three games. He performed well during the preseason, enough to earn a spot ahead of Jameis Winston, another veteran quarterback option, on the Giants depth chart. And Daboll has not shied away from his conviction since April to get Dart, as General Manager Joe Schoen made a deal to get back into the first round to nab him as the teams potential quarterback of the future.Daboll was adamant Wilson remained the teams starter despite Dart being drafted, but his decision now to go with the youngster is his alone."Its my decision," he said about the Dart move. "Again, we have conversations, weve said this numerous times, I have plenty of conversations. Thats the direction that I wanted to go, and thats the direction that were going to go."It is also not far-fetched to say Daboll and the rest of this regime are coaching for their jobs at this point, with owner John Mara making it clear he needed to see improvement from a paltry 3-14 record in 2024 to have confidence moving forward with his team. There was hype surrounding the Giants, especially after seeing how well the offense and defense looked in the preseason. The regular season tells the true story, and the Giants have not been looking like an improved team.Could that come with Dart at the helm? Daboll obviously hopes so."Weve had three games, havent put it together all collectively, and made the decision to play Jaxson," Daboll said.Rookie growing pains are sure to come for the 25th overall pick, and perhaps quickly considering the Chargers are 3-0 and look like one of the leagues best teams early on. But, as Daboll put it, rookie quarterbacks wont know until they try."I dont think any rookie quarterback is ever just ready to play," he said. "You put him in there because you think that hes done enough to show you that he can go out there and compete, and hes done that every step of the way."Dart will not only make his first NFL start on Sunday, it will also be his first start in front of a Giants home crowd at MetLife Stadium at 1 p.m. ET.Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X, and subscribe tothe Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 9 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр
